Is it just me?
My computer will only see my phone if I plug it in while it (phone) is turned on. If I power on or reboot the phone (while connected via USB) it never shows up. I have to pull the USB cable and plug it back in. I tried multiple computers JIC and same results.
I AM rooted (systemless) if that makes a difference. I guess I'll unroot to see if it has any affect. Hopefully I don't have a bad device.
Rooting shouldn't have any impact. I have to toggle the USB connection type every time I plug into my PC. PTP seems to be the only one that recognizes for ADB. Fastboot works fine.
Thanks Fury, I did notice that as well. MTP would get toggled @ each plug in, but I'm talking actual connection detect not type of connection detected.
Can someone confirm normal operation on their 6P for me. I contacted Google and they are telling me it is working as designed. This would be the first phone that I have owned that is not recognized by a computer during reboot or power on. Charging seems not to be affected, only "data" connectivity...

Last night I updated to 4.3 via the very useful thread here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145848
I was in situation "A" with a completely stock Nexus 4 and the side load went without a hitch. I was able to charge my phone from my wall charger last night with no issue. Today at work I realized that my phone was not charging from my PC via USB cable like it usually does. If I disconnected and reconnected I would see "Charging" on the Battery page for a split second then it would change to "Not Charging" and the phone would notify me that I was connected as a media device.
Trying to troubleshoot the problem I had rebooted the phone and the PC, no luck. I tried turning off the check box that set the phone as a media device and when I unplugged and replugged in my phone it started charging again. To test my theory I turned the "media device" option back on and charging stopped right away. Has anyone else seen this?
Steps to duplicate:
1) Connect phone to PC via USB with Connect as "Media device (MTP)" checked (Settings -> Storage -> Menu -> USB computer connection)
2) See that the phone is not charging.
3) Uncheck "Media device (MTP)"
4) Unplug and replug in USB cable
5) See that the phone is now charging.
6) Re-check "Media device (MTP)"
7) See that phone immediately stops charging.
Not sure if this matters but the PC is running Windows XP. Up until today I have had no issues charging and nothing has changed configuration wise on the PC that I know of.
Thanks,
Eric
A friend of mine just had the problem. It seems that, since 4.3, you can no longer charge if MTP or PTP is activated AND your peripheral is not recognized by the system. I mean, since it is work computers, I assume you do not have privileges to install drivers for your phone. And so, it won't charge until you deactivate the MTP fonction. At home, where your phone is properly recognized and drivers are installed, no problem.
Another solution is to find a "charge only" usb cable, like the ones delivered with external batteries for example. We tried it, and it works also even without deactivate MTP or PTP.
Same Issue. On two different devices out of the box.

I own two Samsung devices and they both have the same issue. I have tried different power cords, different USB 2.0/3.0 slots on a Linux laptop, Windows laptop, Mac Mini and Rasperry Pi, turned on developer mode to no avail. The few things I do see that both devices when plugged into an outlet they say Charging (AC). Once unplugged and plugged into a USB port the nav title bar hides and comes back with the battery icon with a red X and stating discharging. I have yet to find a fix for either.

Not a fix. Just a possiable answer.

Android 4.4.4 CM 11S USB Charging Issue Resolved
Hi,
I had the same problem with my OPO. My previous device was JellyBean and I could charge even when it was connected as Mass Storage.
My new device used to connect as MTP by default and hence would not charge. I charge it from my work PC which has blocked media transfer through USB and that was the real problem. When I uncheck MTP and connect my device, it would charge. Since my Home PC has no such settings there is no problem when I connect it to that.
Hello!
Up until the latest update of April security patch, everything worked well on my phone. But yesterday I noticed that my device did not detect USB OTG (the same USB worked flawlessly on my Redmi 3S Plus). The SanDisk notification just doesn't show up at all. The laptop shows that the USB device is not recognised on connecting phone to it. Also, I do not get the USB configuration notification in the notification bar anymore that lets us choose between charging, MTP and other modes. I've turned USB debugging on & off several times, restarted my device, but nothing helped. But the device is recognised as an USB on the laptop. Also on connecting the device to my laptop, it simply charges. On connecting it to the charger, it does not show "Turbo power connected" anymore. It simply says, "charging". Is anybody facing the same issue? Can please anyone help me if you know a possible solution for this problem?
All of it looks like symptoms of broken data pins in your phone's usb port. Try booting it in bootloader mode and connecting to your pc, if fastboot doesn't recognize it when doing "fastboot devices" in cmd then it's certainly a hardware issue.

I don't know how but magically, last night when I connected the charger to my phone, it started Turbo charging! I checked the USB OTG connection in the morning and it worked! I'll now check the connection to my laptop and report back! Thanks a lot for replying!

Glad to hear it's working. Hope it was just a glitch and doesn't happen again
Hi all, I haven't been here for a while now, but I figure that this is the best place to put my issue besides maybe reddit. So I was trying to activate USB tethering yesterday as i do a lot in order to play some games on my computer since i don't have access to any ethernet, and something went wrong and it didn't activate despite having hit the switch on the phone. I unplugged my phone to turn it off since my computer hadn't recognized the tethering and tried to activate it again, but this time my phone only made the charging noise and wasn't picking up my computer at all. I then restarted my phone to see if that was the issue and got the same result. I then tried to plug it into my laptop to see if my computer was the problem and it did the same thing.
Today I tried plugging my phone into my laptop with my usb-c to usb-c cable (instead of my go-to usb-c to usb-a cable that came with the phone) and got some signs of life from the laptop, it makes the sound that says its plugged in, but the phone still only charges and the laptop picks up my phone as "USB root hub (USB 3.0)" and "Intel USB 3.1 eXtensible Host controller-1.10 (Microsoft)" in device manager. I also just tried clearing the cache in recovery but nothing has changed. Does anyone know what's going on here and how I can fix it?
Unrooted (duh), AT&T model (sorry idk the model numbers like i used to), latest updates and security patches etc
EDIT: power cycled it (let it die and turned it back on a few times until it wouldn't turn on again) and charged it back up again and that seems to have fixed my issue.

Edit: forgot to mention, it still charges on every computer its plugged into
I am unable transfer data from pc. I connected to pc and it only charges but no sign of usb connection. When phone goes to sleep after plugging it, again after few seconds phone wakes and again sleeps. I even changed the port. There is no sign of any new devices connected in device manager (Windows) too. Is there any solution for this? Help me!
