Since last 2-3 months, my thinpad 1838's (android) touch screen has become totally unresponsive. Before that, when I used to power the tablet, the touch screen wont respond immediately. However, after 2-5 power on power off cycles, it would start working. As of now, the power on power off cycles also don't help, neither does a factory reset. The tablet has become useless and now I am on a mission to fix it . I want to take some advice from the experts here. Here are my questions
Is this a tell tell sign of a hardware issue?
Is there some way, I can diagnose if it is?
Should I try rooting the device?
Please give any suggestions you have.

PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!
I have had many different issues with this phone since day one, 2 months ago. All the sudden the other day I put the phone on the charger at that time it had a half battery, about a half hour later it started turning itself off and back on continuously and the back of phone was hot. I had to wait for the right timing after it turned back on, to power it off completely. i have called Sprint and Sharp to have someone help me or walk me through options and I keep getting the run around as to who's responsibility it is to help me Tech wise and or replace my phone through my TEP. I have since looked up a way to hard reset... hold power and volume and a screen of options should come up, with about 5 options. Mine only shows, Reboot System Now..... and Wipe Data / Factory Reset. NEITHER WORK. I will be making sure some how some way I get my phone replaced. However in the meantime I would like to know if someone can please help!!! I am completely with out a phone at this point and can not call for further Technical Support or Help. PS: Soft reset did not work. And also the phone does not stay on much longer then the time to load then it's already powering back off on it's own.
Thank you for your time.

Hi All,
My OPO2 becomes not responsive at all after keeping the screen off for more than 1-2 seconds.
Turning on and off the screen fast works well.
It is not really powered off because:
1. I can call to it, but there is no ring and no option to answer.
2. In order to turn it back on, I must long press the power button.
If I keep the screen on the phone works just fine for long hours.
I've tried factory reset, and even switched the stock OS with CM - and the issue reoccurred.
Happening only when unplugged.
Any ideas what else I can try?
Appreciate very much the help.
Same happened with my other Android device it would go unresponsive after I lock the screen I think it is a hardware related may be your proximity sensor is faulty check with service center.

Full wipe and try reflashing stock oxygen os 3.0.2 it may solve ur problam
Solved!
Hi,
Actually I had the capacitive buttons and the home button not working at all either,
so in this case it came into my mind that they may cause this issue to happen.
I have simply disconnected them both from the motherboard and the problem solved!
Obviously, replacing them is an additional option.
Thank you everyone for the help
I would greatly appreciate your help. I have this generic Chinese made car Head unit (running android jellybean 4.2.2). I've had it for about a year and a half or so. A couple of months ago, the screen began to be unresponsive - after boot up. It is quite frustrating, as the unit itself is actually working.. but the screen just does not respond. This happens randomly! Sometimes you have to restart it several times before it works normally. And it does work normally sometimes, though there is no way to know for sure when it will work or not. So it just seems to happen randomly. Sometimes it will not work at all after several reboots. Sometimes it will just work the first time it's turned on!
. It seems to just be quite random. I tried using one of the screen calibration apps from the appstore. It seemed to make a very minor difference (or perhaps not!). The problem is still very much there.
Sometimes, while it's unresponsive, if you touch an app icon and leave the unit alone, after some time the app would eventually open - though the time it takes to do that greatly varies. At this point, the screen may then work - sometimes normally, but in many cases, abnormally or unpredictably. In some cases it will not work at all.
Please does anyone know what is responsible for this and if/how it can possibly be fixed?
One more thing I should add is that I suspect this started to happen as a result of an unsuccessful attempt to root the device. Could that be the reason... and/or is there any hope... i.e. can it possibly be fixed?
I have also done a factory restore.. but it still does this! Please help
Did you ever get any answer to this?
Best thing I would recommend would be to disassemble the unit remove the ribbon cables carefully be very careful removing the latches the plastic latches on the Zero Force connections and then make sure they're clean reinstall when it boots plays Five Fingers flat on the screen for about 10 seconds and it'll give you the touch calibration screen with four dots touch the dots from one then two then three then four then it'll give you the option automatically to save it and then let you calibrate the touchscreen hit configure start and then do each button one at a time touch the screen and then the left side touch buttons starting with power and then ending with volume down and that
Hello,
So my Nexus 6P turned off randomly and then would not turn back on. It would come on and show Google and sometimes even let me enter my pin to start the phone. But it constantly would freeze during start up and just shut down. I got into the recovery and factory reset my phone and now it won't even turn on. I hold the power and it doesn't do anything. I've tried the boot loader and such but it won't turn on at all. Any ideas on what I could do? Thanks!

Sounds like you may have more than one problem, but many have been able to get a dead phone to start by holding the power button down for a very long time, sometimes 2 minutes or more. If it doesn't start, fully charge it and try the power button again. Assuming you are stock with a locked boot loader.... you didn't mention.
My phone is stock with a locked boot loader. I held the button for over 5 minutes and got nothing. I'm wondering if Google would be willing to help me out. Unless anyone has other ideas
It's hopeless. Don't waste your time trying to revive. Contact Huawei regardless of date of purchase.
If it won't power on it's either not charged, a bad power button, or something with pcm. Which is on Motherboard.
Most common scenario is a bad power button because it's most used breakable part. That won't allow the board to receive power or not enough power if it's shorted.
Dunno if you've poked around the interwebs some more regarding this, but I've been slammed with the N6P bootloop error (which appears might be part of your problem) and I found a stop-gap solution. If you feel like you've got nothing to lose, you can try what I've done: Make sure the phone has a little charge, hold it with a hot mitt from your kitchen, and blast the back of your N6P in the region between the camera lens and the fingerprint sensor with a hairdryer. Doing so will trip the big cluster off, which is the source of the bootloop problem. If you can get it to boot to the Google logo, applying the heat for the right amount of time (maybe not too long.. 2-4 minutes tops) may cause it to make it to the spinning color graphics and beyond.
I've been able to resurrect my phone doing this, but only to back it up and do very simple tasks. The moment I do something processor-intensive (Waze, YouTube, etc) it immediately crashes and bootloops again. The only solution beyond this is to unlock your bootloader, download EX Kernel manager and use it to completely disable the big cluster. Then your phone will likely be reliable, but extremely hobbled.
I bought from Best Buy about 16 months ago, so both Google and Huawei have been utterly useless, which is infuriating. Shenanigans like this are criminal. This is my 3rd Nexus phone and I'm considering abandoning Android altogether after this experience.
Hi,
After restarting my phone, the touchscreen is not working. It's going to unresponsive. Even the power button features (Reboot, shutdown, screenshot..etc) also not working.
I am not able to unlock my mobile also. Touchscreen completely going to an unresponsive state. If we do a hard shutdown (long press on power button) then it's working. Sometimes we have to hard shutdown 2 to 3 times to get a responsive touch screen.
I have the latest firmware installed on my mobile. (WW-16.2017.1912.060)
Please help me to resolve this issue.
Thanks.

hey i have same problem .. all of sudden touchscreen unresponsive .. sometime few second i can touch it after i lock the screen or restart.
its already 2 day .. do u solve it? care for sharing
covid19, thinking twice go to asus center
I have been facing this issue for a long time. The only workaround I have found is pressing the the power button for 10 sec and entering the password immediately after reboot and not waiting for the screen to go off. Once the screen goes off the, touch stops responding
Tried every possible way ,but got nothing. Its been 3 days of my phones coma condition. You guys just wait for some time, your screen will be comepletely unresponsive.
The only way to solve this problem. That is 'BOYCOTT ASUS'.
