[Q] Nexus 7 Bricked, no bootloop, no fastboot, no recovery. - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Let me start off by saying I am a noob. I am not rooted. Anyway, I tried to install Android 4.4 KitKat (the OTA download link) and I got to the Android with the red exclamation mark. It said "no command". After that, I tried to continue to the next step, and I couldn't. I can't do anything with it now. I really need help with this now!

I believe this is the Recovery mode.
Press the power button and volume up, it will show you a menu with reboot as a first option.
Press the power again (reboot device highlighted) to restart the device.

I'm new to nexus family too and had a lot of problems with it. (Never have problems but this recovery cost me a lot of time).
The solution is:
When you are EXACTLY at the red exclamation mark screen.
1) Press and hold POWER
2) Press volume UP.
That should show the options in less than 2 seconds.

thanx mate..worked like a charm
I am experiencing the same "no command" issue, already tried the volume up + power and nothing happens, if I flash CWM touch 6.0.3.1 everything works but I can't go back to stock recovery no matter what, any advise?
Already flashed stock recovery using Wugfresh's Nexus Root toolkit but the "no command" problem persists.
Thank you.

it's power then volume up. you're doing it the wrong way. you need to press power first and while pressing on that you press volume up

Yeap, same thing, I press and hold the power and then I press the volume up, nothing happens. I even formatted the phone completely using the 4.2.2 image from google, nothing, the no command error keeps coming up, the only way to have a recovery is flashing CWM touch.
---------- Post added at 10:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:44 AM ----------
I've got my N4 maybe a month ago, I installed the 4.2.2 OTA as soon as I got it, the I proceeded to unlock it and root it, one day someone recommended to clear the cache of the phone using the stock recovery (which I thought I had / to fix another problem that I was having) I went to fastboot and tried to access recovery, BOOM, just an android laying down with a red exclamation mark, no "no command" error at all. I downloaded CWM touch and flashed it using Nexus Root Toolkit, that worked fine, but I didn't want a custom recovery and also I needed to fix a 3G latency problem that I was having, after some reading I saw that someone recommended a full flash using the stock google image.
A couple of days I proceeded to flash the factory image, I installed it, after that I did a factory reset from android itself. After doing all that I wanted to clear the cache with the stock recovery just in case, BOOM, an an android laying down with a red exclamation mark and this time with a "no command" error. Tried the trick of holding the power and pressing the volume up, NOTHING HAPPENS!
Right now I am using CWM Touch.
Any suggestion?
Thank you.
No real solution??? Sad...

Nothing, this answer is unhelpful
I have this issue as well. I tried to "unroot" my N4 (and Im a noob at this), and I think I did something wrong because when I access recovery mode from the bootloader I see the "dead android" but no matter what I do I dont see the control/menu. I tried:
- holding all buttons at the same time
- holding the power button and the down button (in sequence)
- holding the power button and the up button (in sequence)
So now I can not boot my Nexus, I can not wipe my Nexus and I can not access it from the PC. I was running 4.3 and I used the "How to Unroot Nexus 4 to Stock 4.2 Jelly Bean on Windows!" youtube guide ( I am not allowed to post links) to unroot my device (nexus 4), where I fail at 8:45, I simply dont see that menu popping up. Instead, my Nexus shuts down or reboots.
Please help
Is there no fix for this?
I decided to go back to stock to get 4.3. I flashed 4.2.2 using the Nexus toolkit and then got 4.3 via an OTA after this I rooted my phone. As the OTA worked I would imagine that the stock recovery was working. When I tried to install the latest OTA I got the no command issue. I can flash cwm recovery no problem. But when I try to flash stock recovery either via a toolkit or via fastboot command it does not work - no command. And holding in power and then volume up doe nothing. Any advice? I suppoe I cando a full wipe flash the stock 4.3 image and see if this helps. Has anyone had any success fixing this problem?
I have the same issue.
Even when trying to get to stock recovery through Nexus Root Toolkit gets me a NO COMMAND screen.
It seems like the recovery is not there.
Still looking for an answer - any help?

When you get the no command prompt do the following.
Press and hold the power button followed by pressing and holding the volume up button. Release only the volume up button after 2 seconds and you will be in recovery.

Seems that you have the stock recovery installed (that Android laying on its back with a red triangle is the stock recovery).
If I'm not missunderstanding your issue, it shouldn't really be an issue but it's just like how it should be.

Yes, but the OTA update still does not install with this method.
"No Command" issue solved for Zuum 9330
I want to thank every one of you guys. I had same issue with my phablet. By reading your comments I got ideas to try some key combinations, and factory reset my phone. Here is what I did:
1) Power down the phone
2) Press and hold "volume up", then Press and hold "power" button until Android logo with the message "no command" shows up
3) Press and hold "volume down", then Press "back" button then release "back" button and the menu will show up. Then release "volume down".
4) use "volume up" or "volume down" to navigate menu
5) to execute selection, use "home" button
I hope it helps someone.
If so, please tell me.
Total first timer, flash to stock as had messed up sd card partition trying to flash custom ROM, really worried when couldn't access recovery after stock flash. Thank you thank you thank you, this totally worked!!!
thank you a lot. saved my phone. i thought i will through away the nexus 4 but the combination of no command power button and volume up did well
Hope this helps, you press and release volume up! worked perfectly
Performing a factory reset may take some time, so make sure that you plug your device into a power source before you start. If your phone becomes unresponsive at any point during these steps, you can restart it by holding down the Power button for several seconds.
If your phone is on, turn it off.
Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time until the device turns on. You'll see the word "Start" with an arrow around it.
Press the Volume Down button twice to highlight "Recovery".
Press the Power button to restart into Recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark and the words "No command".
While holding down the Power button, press and release the Volume Up button once.
Press the Volume Down button twice to highlight "wipe data/factory reset" and press the Power button to select it.
Press the Volume Down button seven times to highlight "Yes - erase all user data" and press the Power button to select it.
After the reset is complete, press the Power button to select the option to reboot your device.
When you've finished, follow these steps to restore your data.

[Q] "No command" when booting to recover on 4.2.1

So I've become tired of pressing "Check now" and being lied to about my system being up to date on the system update screen, and decided to sideload 4.2.2 myself.
This requires booting into recovery mode, but doing so just shows an image on Android on its back with a red triangle over its chest, and "No command" underneath it.
adb reboot recovery yields the same result, as does booting into the bootloader and choosing recovery from there.
After leaving it on this screen for a while, the system automatically does a normal boot.
This Nexus 10 has never been rooted or unlocked: the only thing I've ever done to it is to update to 4.2.1, for which I did wait for the OTA update to become available for my device.
So I'm currently stuck. Anyone have any idea what's going on?
The red triangle is stock recovery. Try hitting one of the volume buttons to get you into the next part of stock recovery. Once there you can select to sideload. I haven't played with stock recovery on the N10 recently so don't remember which volume button and if your press it or hold it.
EDIT: It looks like tapping the power button and volume up button at the same time works. Don't hold the buttons, just tap ... tap it in ...
EDIT2: Just realized you may be having some other issue after I saw someone else mention the "no command" piece.

AHA!
Thank you! Knowing that there's a second step to get to the menu helped me to find this:
Press and Hold the Power button and then tap the Volume Up button within a second to display the menu. This can be a bit tricky if you don’t do it right so if your device reboots just try again.

I am in the exact same situation.
Launched the update after 4.2.2 Notification, the device restarted, error message then "No command". I restart manually with Power and Vol+.
My Nexus is fully fonctionnal but always in 4.2.1.
For info : My bootloader is unlocked and the devices is rooted.
I had the same problem. In my case, the thing was I had no recovery installed (the Nexus 10 tries to restore stock recovery if you install another one, and sometimes it fails).
I solved it by installing GooManager from the Play Store and using it to install another recovery.

Could you please elaborate further? I have the same problem (rooted and getting the No Command error) and i am absolutely not sure what to use the goomanager for and what difference it would make
I got the same problem, I have to flash the 4.0 factory image back, then got ota 4.2.1 and 4.2.2, that was before I realized that 4.2.2 factory image has been released by google. Now just wait for some tools to root the stock.

[Q] help: nexus fast boot mode not visible; stuck in bootloop

Hi there,
Just bought a N10 and via nexus toolkit attempted to unlock it. That is all I have tried, as far as I know. It is now stuck in a bootloop. I have read as much as I can find about the need for a factory reset to continue. I tried to boot into fastboot mode to achieve this but like others my fastboot screen is NOT visible.
e.g.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018777
simply unlocking did not give me the option, via nexus root tool kit, to add a custom recovery so the solution provided in the link above is no help. I have tired used nexus root tool kit to flash stock + unroot in case that wold help but its says the device is not connected.
Please help!

If you have gotten this far (with the red exclamation mark) then you are only a step away from the Stock Recovery Mode. Press "Power" and "Vol Up" key at the same time.. and you will get to the Stock Recovery Mode. Also, I need to know if you used the "Power" and "Vol Up and Down" buttons to go the "bootloader" screen, OR you used the ADB commands to do that???

"No command" message while accessing Recovery

Hello guys !!
I recently flashed the factory image of Lollipop on my nexus 4, since then, I'm encountering a problem while trying to access my stock recovery, i have a screen with a resting droid and an exclamation point saying "No command", I tried to press power button + volume key up, and then I access to a "Android System Recovery <3e>", but I don't know what it is ....
Any help to understand what's happening will be welcome !

The Android System recovery is the stock recovery. Its functionality is quite limited compared to custom recoveries, but still lollipop has added new options there. You are able to get into stock recovery from the dead android screen so you should be fine. If you want more options, flash a custom recovery like twrp.

Update to marshmallow failed

I'm stock 5.1.1, unrooted but bootloader unlocked. Tried updating with ota but ran through the stock recovery Android booted and it said update failed. Do i have to relock the bootloader? Again, im NOT rooted.

Also, when I tried booting into recovery manually, after the bootloader unlocked warning screen came up, it went to what was supposed to be there stck recovery but instead was the dead (lying down) Android with this words "No Command" over him. That's all, no other anything. I Powered off and booted back into Android.
BTW, got the phone second hand....
Download 6.0 and flash in fastboot.
You can also use my thread, but remember, there provided files are for EU version of Moto X Style. If you are using another device, steps will remain the same, but you will need files for your device!

The dead Android is stock recovery. Hold the power button then tap the vol + button. That will take you into the recovery menu.
From LenoMoto:
Code:
With the phone powered off, press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time until the device turns on.
Press the Volume Down button to highlight "Recovery mode"
Press the Power button to restart into Recovery mode.
You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.
While holding down the Power button, press the Volume Up button.
