Additional Gmail Accounts Not Linked To Play - Atrix 4G General

Hi,
I'm still trying to work out how to set up an additional gmail account that does not get linked to my phone.
When I use the app and set it up both the Play email address and my main email come up together in one place.
Or if this is not possible what app do I need to use to download attachments if I use the default email app?
Thanks.

HTC Mail widget.

Basically, its annoying me, its like i have two seperate emails, whilst only using one.
I have the big mail widget as i like it, scrolling up and down emails without opening the app etc....
BUT
it seems to run seperate the android one, as when i get email notification, for 1 email sent to my gmail account, i get two notifications, one from htc widget one from android google mail. then when i load up htc, all the emails i have previously read, are set as not read because i read them on the android app!
anyone now a work around, ?
Unlink your gmail app from the gmail account. This is google's Gmail app that was written seperatley from the standard mail application, thus the notifications are seperate.
Use only the HTC Mail application and sign both your standard mail and gmail accounts on to them (activate POP3 or IMAP on your gmail account and set it up using the same details you would normally use in Outlook or some other program). There is a guide to setting up gmail accounts in external clients somewhere in the gmail help pages here: http://mail.google.com/support/
Once that is done, and assuming you've unlinked your gmail application completely, you should have it working the way you want.
Don't setup Gmail via IMAP or POP. Use Google's Exchange server. Instructions in the following link. They're for Windows Mobile but they work just the same.

Don't sign out of gmail, that would stop the market working as well, just go to home>menu>settings>accounts and sync>google
untick mail.
personally, i go the other way and refuse to use HTC's travesty of a mail program...but that's just my personal opinion. Hope you get it working how you want it...

Their is one solution but it works only half of the time. You may try it.
1. disable wifi and you must have cellular data active.
2. Enter your account details in Email app.
3. Select manual setup, select Imap, under incoming server select imap.mail.yahoo.com, as I mentioned it works sometime so may be you will get a message user name password can not be verified in that case you can try after sometime, untill you get success.
4. outgoing server smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
I can confirm this workaround does work I am using it like this with two of my yahoo account.

you can try the Email client in Samsung Apps, it comes with Yahoo mail support.

[Q] Disable GMail app to prevent marking messages on server

I prefer to use my computer to manage my email, but the GMail app on the rooted nook not only checks the mail, but seems to mark them in such a way that my normal mail client won't download them (Thunderbird set to the POP server). I don't have it set to archive messages, so I am not sure how it is marking them - I assume it is marking them as read, but when I check my GMail on the website they still show as unread. Does anyone know a way to change this behavior? I wouldn't mind completely disabling the app as I really don't intend using my nook as an email client.
Thanks
Turn of Gmail
Setting->Account & Sync->Manage Account->your [email protected] unchecked sync Gmail

I was having the problem where I would my email, delete it, etc from my phone and it wouldn't update as such on my actual account. I just went to settings>applications>Manage applications>gmail>Clear data & Clear Cache
It started working fine after that.

I can't seem to find these settings - are you talking about on the Nook, or in my Gmail account online? In the Nook GMail settings, I find a "Labels" setting which allows me to set what is synchronized and how far back in days to keep sync'ed, but only the 'Important' and 'Starred' entries allow me to select 'Sync None' - the others (like Inbox) don't have that option. I can't find anything in my Gmail settings the gmail website, but maybe I am not looking in the right place...?
Thanks again
Account & Sync is not available under Settings on the NC.
I recommend to use IMAP and not POP with your GMail account in Thunderbird.
Then you'll see all your mails also when read on your NC. They will be indicated as read. The same the other way around: if you read them first in Thunderbird they will be indicated as read in Gmail on your NC.
Also moving to folders (changing labels in GMail speak) works both ways. Read up on using IMAP on the Gmail help pages.

Offline Gmail

Had my Iconia for 2 weeks now, and finding new uses for it all the time.
It is a wifi only version, and I have a job that has me outdoors, and away from wifi for most of the day.
I want to cache all of my gmail messages (including attachments) so that I can view and use them offline.
Is there a setting for this, or is there an app?
Running Honeycomb.
Thanks.
I look for this also.
- another solution is
tether your phone with your tablet, and you will access online via phone... backup plan but still usefull sometimes.
You just need to setup gmail in the regular email app. Go to settings, accounts and sync, add account. Use the exchange (corporate) account type. User name is your full gmail email address. Server is m.google.com
It works.

Wow. Thanks for the tip. This is my first time hearing about this.
Should I setup my main account as Google, Exchange, or both?

^Not sure. GMAIL gets setup in the native app due to setting up your google account (for market, etc.). Not sure if you can remove it from the GMAIL app. Only drawback is double notifications for emails coming in to your gmail address. I suppose you could turn off notifications for the gmail app if it bothers you.

Do you need _all_ of them? Or just a subset? If you apply an "offline" label in gmail, then you can go into the gmail app and under label options, tell it to sync all of the "offline" label, rather than the default (4 days).
If you do actually need all of them, then I guess you could just apply the "offline" label to everything...
Thanks for all the help.
Still having some problems. When I set up the new account to sync in the regulat email app, it wants to set it up as imap, not as an exchange account type. Maybe I am doing this incorrectly?
I only need to sync one folder, and I figured out how to get the GMail program to sync all those messages, but each one has an attachment which is what I really need, and the attachments do not sync.
Getting close, but not quite what I need yet.
That's odd. The attachments sync fine for me for synced messages in the gmail app?

That's correct, you should add a "Corporate" account via Settings.
It seems now that the GMail app set to sync all mail (not just 4 days) is syncing the attachments for offline use. I am happy!! Thanks for the help everyone.

Need help setting up email - New Android user

Hello,
I am very new to Android. I just received my Note 10.1 today. I am trying to configure my gmail and other mails on it. I want to use the mail app for all my emails instead of GMAIL app. How do I do that? When I initially booted the device, I used my gmail account and it automatically configured my gmail on the GMAIL app. I configured gmail on the native mail app as well. Now I have my gmail on both places, I want to use only the native mail app. Removing email sync under settings > accounts> is causing a sync error icon and it also cause the GMAIL app to crash.
Like I said I am very new to Android, this is my first android device. Can someone help me configure this? Hope I posted this on the right forum.
TIA

Hi, Thanks for reply. So you want me to use this new id to download apps etc on the play store, but use my main id for emails?
I don't use the Gmail app either. I use the Samsung stock e-mail client so my Exchange and other e-mail accounts are all in a unified inbox. Samsung's e-mail client can be set up on Gmail to receive "push" e-mail via Activesync. In the stock e-mail client set up a new e-mail account using your Gmail address and passord. On the first set-up page you'll see a "manual setup" option, select it.
Use these settings...
Under domain\user name enter...
google\"your e-mail address"@gmail.com
Under Exchange server enter...
m.google.com
Now you'll receive e-mails as they arrive in you Gmail inbox. This method is also less hard on the battery. Go in to Settings>Application manager and swipe three times to the left until "all" applications are showing. Scroll down to find the Gmail app. Open it and press "disable." Now all your Gmail will be routed through the stock e-mail client without being duplicated in Gmail.
P.S. - Gmail via Activesync is being discontinued to new users (legacy user's are protected) effective February 1, 2013.

Thanks for your reply. I have done the first part and it seems to be working. I see mails coming to the native mail app.
But I don't see an option to disable GMAIL app under app manager. All I have is force stop, uninstall updates, clear data, clear cache. NO other options. Am I missing something.

Oops. To disable an app you always have to uninstall any updates to it first. Once you do that you'll see the "disable" option.

Ok, I did it. It removed the gmail app. I guess I am good now. Thanks.
