So I found that my AT&T Galaxy S4 MF3 had an update pending last night and I let it update. When I woke up and continued to the install, it failed at 26% and told me it was unable to install without giving a particular reason. I had it rooted, so what I did is unrooted it and tried again which failed. Then I re-rooted again, deleted busybox, unrooted and tried for the third time. So far I am trying NOT to reset but if I have to for 4.3 then I guess it's necessary. I really have no reason for root anymore so I don't mind losing it for 4.3, but please help!

When I do that, it says asset failed: -a long strip of stuff here- and then says E: Error in /tmp/update.zip (status 7) installation aborted

The phone was working great, then i received the ota update to mf3 and tried rooting with motochopper. Ever since then I keep getting prevention information message in my notifications. I tried odin and nothing is working I was seeing if there is a workaround now since there is root thanks to jortex.

To help me understand, you got the mf3 update and then tried to root with motorchopper. Have you tried a factory reset? Have you tried to root with the new method? Can you currently boot? Odin is not going to work
Yes I did try the reset still nothing, I tried the new root as well but it's not reading the sd card, and It fails with Odin trying to load the stock firmware.

Did you format the sd card with exfat? Like long John said, you may be in a world of hurt right now.
Yes I formatted it with extfat as well and still nothing.

Sorry to say, but until there is a mf3 tar you can flash with odin you're out of luck. As a last resort try kies emergency recovery.
Thanks for all your help and insight I am just going to have to wait it out.
Hey,
I have following problem:
Few days ago I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 Lte (I9505 jfltexx). I wanted to root it and then flash CM onto it.
Rooting went fine but when I flashed CM it aborted with Error 7. After that it was soft bricked but i managed to flash the Stock Rom back and everything was fine again.
But today I tried it again but got following problem. CWM was gone and i had to reflash it. But then everytime I tried to get into recovery mode the phone freezed at the "Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505" Logo with the little blue "recovery booting" in the left upper corner. I tried to flash CWM and also twr but it did not help.
SO my final thought was flashing the stock rom again to at least have a working phone. But when I tried to flash the Stock Rom ODIN failed and my phone gave this error "SW REV. CHECK FAIL : fused:2, Binary: 1".
Then every time it started it booted into download mode and said "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies & try again". I googled how I can solve this and someone said that it has something to do with root. So again I flashed the CF auto root and thank god it booted up normally.
But now my problem: I have no root on my phone(superSu says that there are no SU-binarys), I can't update my stock-firmware because the software update says that my phone has been changed. What can I do to 1. gain root access again 2. flash a custom rom(best would be SlimBean)?
Hope you can help me

What is this great advantage that rooting and installing cf brings, that makes you run the risk of destroying your brand new, very expensive phone?

Ok, I'm just wandering what big difference it makes. What extra does it enable your phone to do? I mean it must be really good to run this risk.

First of all it's the principle that I don't want to have a phone where Samsung tells me what to do and what not. Then there are things like root which are necessary for me because I'm also using it to test my apps which require root access. And also of course apps from the play store which need it. I'm currently using Slimbean because there's no AOKP build for the I9505. It requires less space on the phone, it's heavily customizable and it has the look of vanilla android. And a huge portion of why I am doing this is just me being curious about such things.
In the end it worked and I learned very much new stuff.
Sry 4 bad english
Hey your English is very good mate. And I was just curious as to why you run the risk, thanks for explaining it to me. I rooted and put a new rom onto an orange san francisco (zte blade) once. But that was not an expensive phone. My wife would kill me if I messed up this s4 with almost 2 years of contract to go lol
Please help!
ok so i did latest update for verizon note 3 which unrooted my de la vega. Try going back into Odin mode and re-flash the new update. When you tried the root Vega method you were trying to flash the prior firmware, but that is blocked, can't downgrade. So have to try and redo with the new firmware.

I reverted to stock, took the OTA update, then tried Kingo but it failed to root. Tried to flash back to stock again using droidstyle's thread, but the process halted after a couple of seconds. I pulled the battery, tried to boot normally and I got the same "firmware upgrade encountered an issue..." message, and almost crapped my pants. I saw this thread and tried again, flashing just the .pit image, and got my phone back, but no root.
Hi Guys and Gals,
I have an ATT Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-i337 with Android 4.2.2 but I can't get the 4.3 update via OTA. I tried forwarding the date to update to MK2 but it says my software is up to date. I tried using Kies today, but it won't show any updates.
Anyone have a method of upgrading from MF3 to MK2 that is not OTA?
Please let me know if someone can help me with a step by step guide.
Thank you!!

I have the same problem, sometimes it will find an update and download only to do nothing. I think this is a problem with att's crap servers/update system.

AT&T OTA Failboat
I've tried three times now to update my wife's S4. The first time the download started, then just disappeared. No warnings or errors. Tried updating and it said to wait 24 hours. Next day I started the download again. It got to 23% then said interrupted. Clicked the software update again and it started again, but stopped at 24% saying download failed. Then it said to wait another 24 hours.
Fast forward to tonight and I tried it again. I got 100% of the download only to get a screen that said Software Update Interrupted and to try again in 24 hours. The wife doesn't want me to root her phone, so I'm trying to do this the "normal" way, but AT&T and Samsung seem intent on not letting this happen. If the file got to 100%, is it still on the phone somewhere? If not, is there a link to download the update so I can sideload it and instructions on where the file must be placed?

I was able to get the OTA on the second try. What worked for me was to leave the phone on the charger and enabling the "stake awake while charging" option in the developer options. Don't forget to turn that option off after the upgrade.
So i've been tearing my hair out for the past few hours trying to figure this out.
I've been trying to get my Galaxy S4 to update to 4.3, the newest 727.56MB update. I have tried to download and it downloads, reboots, and then loads to 25%.
I have tried deleting all of the busybox files in /system/xbin as well as uninstalling/full unroot on SuperSU.
I have, on top of that, ALSO done a factory reset, and STILL to no avail!
I don't know what to do at this point and am furious that I cannot get updates from AT&T if my device is rooted.
I still have the stock recovery on my phone, and no longer have root because I uninstalled it. (I rooted my device using the exFAT SDcard method a few months back in July)
So, if ANYONE could help me out that would be GREAT. I am so confused and now have a fully clean phone with all my information gone from it.
And, yes, i'm pretty sure that I can't update OTA anymore, but can ANYONE please tell me how to update then?! Please.
Thanks guys, hope to hear from anyone soon.
