[Q] Water Indicator Location - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm sorry if anyone has asked this but I've tried to look up but I couldn't find anything..
Anyway, I'm thinking to get a used G2 and I want to know where to look for damage indicator on the phone before buying it.
Cheers.

Look down the headphone hole.
Some phones stick one down there

Nowadays it's located inside the phone on the main board

I'm sure there are more than one, but the biggest tattle-tale will be the one in the SIM card slot. It's the only one visible without removing the back.

replace lcd/digitizer

My screen is cracked to all hell. Is there a youtube video showing a strip down of the epic? Is there a guide on how to replace it? I have the lcd and ditizer,so I'm all set except for the actual replacement. LOL
Tia
would you mind sharing the source for the screen/digitizer for those that haven't broken their screens yet ?
Just curious.
I do not know how to tear it down yet though.
Thanks for sharing.
I got it from an interstate wireless on 7 mile for like 60$ lol
Anyone?

You sure you got the right screen? Epic uses SAMOLED, not LCD... also, the digitizer and the LEDs are part of the same construct (one of the reasons it's "super"), so you'd effectively be really just changing the display with integrated digitizer. The glass itself is glued to the plastic case. You'd need to find a way to pull it up, from what I can tell. (I have not ever taken one apart, but it is almost certain that it is a glued screen, which explains why some people are having peeling issues (my Evo had this.))
There is not much for the Epic but some info for the original Galaxy S
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745262
Dissemble of Galaxy S:
http://www.careace.net/2010/06/09/disassembly-of-the-samsung-galaxy-s/
and there are some tear-down pics of the Epic
Thats prob all info there is :/

yea i was just saying "lcd" i got the right one i know
taking a look at the links below
ok well by the looks of it, its pretty much the same thing. i talked to a tech at a repair center, and he said he MIGHT be able to do it. if not, i think i probably have about 70% chance of getting it right. the video showed a break down right down to the digitizer, and it looks almost EXACTLY like that i have, so in theory, i should just have to go as far as gettting the back off, and putting the back BACK on the NEW digitizer/amoleisupmyassed, right?
also, just for clarification, i know i have the right one bcuz i can see the button whole thingies and its the same as what the epic has (menu, home, back, search)
thanks for the useful links& help guys

How is it out of warranty when it hasn't even been out for a year? or did you mod it or something?

just curious...so sprint installed the screen you purchased or they installed one of their own? I had to do this on an htc phone a while back and it was much easier than I imagined.

I purchased a bad esn phone off ebay. I run it on a different network. You think a Sprint store would do something for me?!

I've watched a video for another galaxy phone ... the reason I'm nervous about this one is because on the Epic the screen is on a separate part of the assembly because of the keyboard.
Also: The video shows how to take it apart .. but not how to put it together again. Do I need to glue it together again? What type of glue?

I still don't understand, why are you out of warranty? samsung offers a 1 year warranty...
does one not have to deal with sprint?
Does changing the software so that it runs on a different network not void the warranty?

No even though Sprint has it in their system as marked "bad esn" samsung will not have to do with this. Although I don't think Samsungs warranty covers accidents, such as dropping your phone and cracking the screen.
Hope you get it figured out!

Well Samsung has their own warranty thing...but I would confirm by contacting Samsung..don't tell them you swapped networks or anything of course..otherwise I don't think they would bother to check...
You can always flash it back too..unless phone doesnt work completely?
I got the whole screen + keyboard for under $60 on ebay. It turned out to be as simple as unscrewing and unsnapping the cover, disconnecting three connectors, removing the electronics and putting them in to the new frame. If I'd have to do it again it wouldn't take more than 15 minutes.

I was told its antenna (thats why I can not get good signal most of the time). But I can't find it where to buy it.
Housing or cover. More specifically - back cover or battery cover
It has nothing to do with antenna.
Just search on ebay..

You might have to buy a complete housing to get that one part.

What I was trying to say is that I don't see that part included in any housing packages that are being sold online.
Any more opinions?
If it's a complete housing then it should have it.

That thing is the antenna, I know when I replaced 32A black housing with white one, that part didnt had any flex antenna in it, and the signal was extremely low, so if you are buying this from ebay, you must get that flex black antenna with it, otherwise its of no use. Hope you can get it somewhere=)
The housing will not have the antenna.
I just replaced mine... the housing did not include that part.

That flex antenna thing which goes to the top of the phone? Its already in my phone. I don't think that flex thing goes at the bottom too. Might be wrong though.
Another thing - may be it is possible to DIY somehow? I mean usually antennas are just "piece of wire". So maybe good electrician could work something out? Just an idea.
that is antenna, but changing housing wont have that part.
you dont need to change that part to change housing.

The upper flex antennas are for Bluetooth and GPS, bottom one is for mobile signal
About DYI, I belive its possibile, as you have said it is "a piece of wire" , though I dont know wil that end up, if you manage to do that somehow could you inform us how?
But you could buy flex anntenas for BT and GPS from ebay (upper ones), and cut them so they fit to signal antenna, just a thought =)
Here is the link to ebay.

I think 'antennas' can be replaced with foil - at least that's what I have in my magic after realising the original was missing. Its not ideal but it works!

Anyone in the UK want a FREE faulty HD2?

Don't get too excited, as the screen is smashed and USB port on bottom of phone is missing, but yuh never know, someone might need some parts from inside.....
like vibrate, gps unit, battery cover, back side of case etc etc etc.
Reason being, I sold my working HD2 and bought a Desire HD and am taking delivery of it tommorow...got to be done, love the HD2, but I seem to be plagued with problems with the old.....it gets warm and freezes, gps it freezes etc etc.
Gagging for an Android native phone, and used my friends Desire HD the last week and it's AWESOME.
Sooo, still got my first HD2 which has been in draw for months, screen gone etc....know I can make a small bit of cash by selling it on Ebay, but would rather donate it to someone on here, as this forum been a home to me the last 12 months or so (lol)
anyway, let me know what parts yuh want off it and they are yours
Doubt any Devs want it, but if they do, they get first choice...as without them, I woulda been stuck in Windows mobile hell!!
Anyway, cheers Devs...much appreciated for all your hard work.
cheers
Matt
ps: There is no catch, FREE parts, FREE postage.
Wouldn't mind having the battery cover if no more takers, somehow managed to lose mine somewhere lol
Let me know. Thanks
I'll take it,also need a battery cover.
Thanks
SD card and/or battery please! Though they're probably gone with the good one.
I agree though "recognised developer" should step up.

Uh my G2 sd card slot is broken. Fix please?

So I finally got a replacement G2, and i accidentally broke off the sdcard tray. So how do I go about in fixing it?
I don't wanna order a replacement G2
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using xda premium
well, you could try to find a new lid thingyc that exactly matches the one in the g2 (could be hard but i think it'll be pretty generic) depending if you damaged the bottom side of the sd-slot.. then again the slot actually only pushes the sd-card onto the connectors, so some duct-tape might work aswell.
dont blame me for further destorying your phone either way.
Wouldn't fixing it be pretty much common sense?
If u can't do it without buying something then look into buying a specific piece or seeing if the sd card slot is even removable and replacable... if none of the above then if maybe some solderings skills might help you out...
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
heck...I'm thinking of a flattened coke can pop lid with a paperclip weaved thru it as the hinge.. I mean yeah common sense.. I can see it happening.

Omg did u just get the phone? My gf got a replacement G2 and when we opened the box..... The SD card door just fell out to the ground!! It came like that out the box, we called back and got another one sent! But I would only use that excuse if u just got the phone the same day it broke... For my gf it was legit.... So it could happen to other ppl!

[Q] New VZ LG G2 - shows "Rooted" out of box?!?

Got my new LG G2 on Thursday - enjoying things so far, no complaints... Except I looked under status, and my phone says "Rooting status: Rooted"... Anyone else experience that?
I haven't tried to do anything to it (yet), aside from accepting the OTA update... The only other curveball so far was that activation took awhile, the SIM it came with didn't match the order paperwork, and I had to figure that out for myself...
Looking for everyone's thoughts and/or guidance about what to do... On the one hand, I might root it myself once I am certain I am keeping it. On the other hand, I am worried what would happen if the phone develops issues and I needed to return it or whatnot..
Send it back asap and tell then the phone is used and how you know it's used.
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yea it's a restock at a non corporate store...somebody paid the 35 bucks to get VZN to wipe and put back in the box. That's why they won't let you leave without a screen protector. ..or at least keep suggesting one till you say sure now stfu
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
LOL... Someone rooted it and then returned it?
Tell them you'll keep it, but you know it was a return, so you want a partial refund.
Glad you got a restocked phone....Raise all hell and get a new phone.
Did your phone have all the plastic on it when you unboxed it? Should have been 2 on the metal outer ring. One around the camera. One over the back buttons. Front.back. and bottom of back. (Last one is some type of retail sticker or something. Didn't really read it. Just ripped it off and threw it out)

Sure didn't look like a restock. Had all the plastic: front, back, 2x along the sides, camera, buttons... I ordered it online and it was shipped to me; wouldn't that reduce chances it was a restock, or am i missing something...?
Not on the same phone, but I had a gnote 2 that came pre-bootloader unlocked. No screen cracks, nothing. It was sweet.

hmm. maybe they are preping a pre-rooted one for vzw? LOL ... who am i kidding. they would never do that.
Just after the phone was released, someone else posted that their phone said that it was rooted as well. If you're going to root anyway, I wouldn't worry about it. If not, you may want to exchange it (unless you want to revert to stock yourself - there's a thread that tells how to do that too).
Edit: here's the thread I was talking about. Read from post #20.
