WARNING
The "Active" Brodit Carkit, specifically the charger part, can blow out the USB port on your TyTN II, and you will need to RMA your phone. This is due to a missing diode, allowing the car to actually draw power from your device when it needs to. Obviously, the phone does not like that.
The problem seems to be dependant on wether your 'cigarette lighter plug' is positioned before or after the key contact in the 'power chain'.
If you have an Active Brodit carkit, CONTACT YOUR IMPORTER. They can identify if your carkit has this problem by it's serial number (at least the Dutch importer can, I assume other importers will as well). They should (and will) replace or fix the carkit for you by adding a diode and replacing the 1A fuse with a 2A fuse.
There are not a lot of units that have this problem, all of them are early units and are reported to have a serial number starting with M. But it's always better to call and check then having to RMA your phone. If someone who calls their importer to check their serial number could ask for the exact range of 'faulty' units so we can post it here would be great!
The original information came from the TyTN II topic at GoT
--------- Original Post ---------
(sorry if this has been posted, I honestly couldn't find it)
I was (am) looking to find a nice holder (and charger) for my car for the Kaiser. I was actually considering the Active Brodit holder, but then stories started to reach me on another forum (GoT (dutch)) of several people who had their active Brodit's charger damage their USB port.
One of the guys on that forum contacted the tech support of the importer of the active Brodit. Apparently what happens is when you turn off your car, the car drains power from the Kaiser and this can break the holder and possible the the phone's USB port.
Anyone here have any experience with this?
I haven't heard of this - they're just using a standard 1A car charger. Mine is powered all the time so it can charge with the car off.
USB problems since using active Brodit cradle
Funny you should mention this: My Tytn II is RMA'd with a dead USB port... no mains or sync cable charging. This happened straight after I first used the active cradle, but I hadn't pinned down the cause until I saw your post. As the post above suggests, it would seem odd that such a simple mechanism would damage the port... but maybe...
Opening post updated with information. Moderators, please sticky this.
It happened to me.
I bought it yesterday : )
I have just bought a Brodit Carkit, but I'm afraid of using it.
I asked the seller but he knows nothing about it.
Is there a way to check my product is fault or not?

Send a mail to brodit or look for the wholesaler in your country. It has specifik serial numbers starting with an M followed by six digits, but i don't no the range.

Now I know why I bought the passive Brodit holder (more flexibility, I can mount it on the bicycle too, what could I use the charger there for?) with an ordinary 12V to miniUSB charger for other HTC phones. Funny thing is all these shops are practicing different prices for the same charger which fits on several phone models. If you buy it for the Kaiser, it's at least 15€, but I've chosen it for another, older HTC (guess Artemis or so), knowing it would work, and only payed 0.39€ for it, strange, isn't it? Online shop Mafia...

I called them, and according the serial number my carkit is OK.
That is great.
I just installed my ProKit last night, so far no issues yet. I called Prokit (the prokit is made by brodit) this morning and they just heard about the issues but had not got any calls or info from Brodit regarding the issue. In fact, I was their first customer calling in.
I'll let you know if anything changes....
I just got off the phone to Dave at DSL developments, the importers for the Brodit kit. He and Brodit are aware now that a very small number of early units had a fault and he has replaced mine very swiftly.
I am not associated with either party but I am aware that a problem with one or two units can really wreck a man's business if the scale of the problem is inflated on forums such as this one (let's face it, no one ever posts to say that a charger DIDN'T break their phone!).
This post is to let you all know that the problem was there in a very tiny fraction of chargers but is now fixed. And thanks to Dave at DSL for excellent service!
Was this only with the Ciggy lighter model or the one that is wired in

Updated the post to state that there's only a small number of units having this issue and as reported their serial number all start with M. If someone could get their hands on the exact serial number ranges that would dandy!
I disagree with your 'inflation' point though. The TyTN II is a _really_ expensive gadget, I for one would be _really_ pissed off if my car charger broke it and it had to be sent off for who knows how long to be fixed. Blame Brodit if you want to blame anyone. Giving people the information so they can at least check if theirs is a faulty unit or not is only prudent. Besides, if your entire business revolves around the Active Brodit for the TyTN II, it's time to rethink your business strategy.
(As it is, I don't even have a Brodit, because there is no clip available for my crappy ass 20 y/o car)

Ciggy lighter model only.
I emailed them when this story broke and they said my serial was not effected. I have a "M" serial number too. So it's not all M units that are defective.
My Brodit blew the phone's USB last weekend.
Obviously the sync wouldn't work, but although the symbol didn't show it was charging the battery level went up whilst USB was connected to PC.
T-Mobile (UK) are replacing the phone (didn't tell them it was connected to a Brodit car charger) and admitted there had been a few returns 'cos of USB faults which had so far been blamed on moisture and dirt.
I already sent the whole Brodit kit back to PDA Hut, emailed Bordit.se and await a reply.....
Hopefully PDA Hut will replace with a 'fixed' model but without knowing serial number range (or checking inside to see if a diode has been added) I won't know if the new phone will be zapped by the new Brodit !!
Official announcement from ProClip USA
ProClip USA, Inc.
“We have contacted Brodit about this issue, which started approx 2 – 3 weeks ago when a small series of active holders for the HTC TyTn II was released. A few of the holders within this series turned out to have a problem in the cigarette lighter plug where a fuse would break if the temperature was below 12 degrees Celsius when the power was activated. As soon as this was discovered all plugs were checked for this particular issue and the ones that turned out bad were replaced. All Active Holders released after this incident are good and can be ordered without any concerns. The unfortunate few who received a bad unit can get it replaced as a warranty replacement from the outlet it was purchased. ProClip USA, Inc. has had no returns yet and we have new inventory of the holder.”
I seem to have run into a similar issue with a ProClips unit. They said that my serial number, M071101 is not one of the affected units, but they are replacing it anyway. It has not caused any problems with my Tilt, but the Tilt will not charge at all when plugged into the clip.
I purchased two ProClips for my Tilt. One with the cigarette charger and one without. I have also had to RMA the one without the clip because the "lips" that hold the phone in the charger completely came off of one side. The lips are very thin and seem to be very fragile, so if you have one of these units be very careful getting the phone in and out. So far, the one with the charger has been easier to insert and remove than the first one I had to return.
I highly recommend ProClips. They are extremely responsive to problems and a pleasure to deal with. They shipped my first replacement OVERNIGHT with no questions asked and included a return label to ship the defective unit back.
Where can i locate the serial # on my brodit? i cant seem to find it...
I was on the point of ordering one (active), then I read this. I assume that if I order one now that it will be the correct one without the "bug"?
p.s. I already have another phone (nokia) as a fixed installation, do you think that I can add a second fixed installation (Active Holder, Tilt Swivel For fixed installation, with Molex adapter system. 2A charger.) next to it? (toyota avensis)?
i am hoping someone here has had this problem and found a solution:
my touch will not charge
the batteries will charge when in other phones
i have tested with multiple chargers/batteries
the phone works fine with a charged battery
i have hard/soft reset
running the stock 6.1 sprint ROM
options?
really rather not get rid of the touch... touch pro will cost me 200-300
thought about getting an external battery charger, but that is not a real solution
this phone is not new. got it a few months after the touch came out.

Maybe the mini-usb port's busted? I don't know....
You're posting on the wrong section btw, this is for the CDMA touch.

Well if you cant sync and the battery wont charge - then your mini-USB is wrecked then.. There is no fix to this without sending it in for repair but from the sound of it you probably have a plan without the insurance right?
If it helps, On EBay some time back I picked up a phone cradle with an extra charger slot in the back for the Touch (CDMA BTW, so I too am in the right area LOL) and it lets me seat the phone and charge a battery behind it - it was like $9 USD as an option at least then you can seat your phone, see the screen (movies, video, music, whatever) while the other battery charges behind it

Doesnt really matter his provider given the phone model and the fact this is a hardware not software or service issue does it?
Wasnt blasting you, just been noticing a jump in "wrong thread" responses from people of late when it hasnt been an issue of wrong thread or the issue asked about had nothing to do with a CDMA/GSM or type of phone in general and it doesnt help people out to just give a quick response like "wrong thread" but not giving them the proper thread to check in...

luckily they are only a few miles from here
hmm
it's 80 bucks to have that service
or i can buy the part for 5 bucks from hong kong and try to do it myself...
so... 80 bucks to make it work absolutley
or 5 bucks and a huge chance to screw it up...
damn economy
Hi guys,
Can anyone tell me how on Eart I go about getting the charger replaced under warranty? I've registered my TF on Asus' site but I'm finding it difficult to raise a request for this. Basically, the plug on the end of the charger keeps coming loose and my TF only seems to charge intermittently as a result of this. The charger is a little bizarre in my opinion. Could have been built a little better and they could have at least given us more slack with the cable! It is painfully short! Thanks!
Vipergrm,
I called the customer service number here in the US (888-678-3688) and waded thru the many menus until I got to the TF people and told them mine had just quit working. They gave me an RA number to return the bad unit which they plan to replace. I had purchased a spare just in case and now i am using that one as my main charger.[they call that playing the odds] I plan on building a good one using a 12volt 2amp switching power supply. There is a thread on how to do that.
Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot for your reply. So they actually want the charger back before they replace it? That's a total pain. Is there no third party ones available anywhere? I can pay about £3 for an iPod/iPad charger but yet the Transforner is £25 for some reason. Probably the same in US dollars. Oh well. I'll try find a second one here in the UK. I suppose a spare is always handy. Thank you!

Mine died a couple of months back ..I called ...got a RMA ...sent it off and I got a brand new one sent to me. I had already bought a spare so no problem.
I believe (but don't quote me) a IPod/Ipad charger operates at 5 volts...a TF at 15 volts.....look up 15 volt chargers that put out 1200mA or more like on ebay...I'm sure your find they aren't the cheapest thing going.
For an alternative check out this thread....I have a simular one I made for a spare and keep the other extra TF one I bought in my travel case

Either try a phone shop, a local Samsung store, or Samsung.com
Are you sure it's the charger IC and not the USB connector. I have never seen a charge IC fail at a samsung yet. If its the connector you can do 2 things, solder a new one yourself for under 10bucks or get a replacement piece of the logic board its on (~50bucks).
Connectors and cracked screens are not part of warranty service, its fault by user policy.

Try another USB charger, it won't affect the device, or as the post above yours said, check if it's the device not the charger.

Damn i totally misunderstood you, i thought you meant an "IC" instead of an "AC".
The IC is a small component that regulates the power supply on your motherboard
Hi Community,
I tried as hard as I could but at this point I've basically given up.
The Problem:
Phone USB-C Port was damaged while charging overnight (Bad LeEco Cable). Over months with a few shipments from aliexpress I tried to repair it, damaged the screen during the process etc etc...
I changed the USB-Board as well as the damaged battery, sadly it's still broken. If I plug it in nothing happens, no detection or anything, charging works though! I unpluged the data line on the flex cable and the behaviour is absolutely the same. This leads me to the conclusion that the power line is ok but the data flex cable or something on the motherboard is "fu**ed". I also tried an EDL Cable as well as an USB Stick. The USB Stick gets powered but not detected by TWRP which is luckily still installed.
Is there any way to safe this phone or into the trash it goes? Thanks in advance to the community, I've been an avid reader for the past couple years and the solutions always suprise me
tl;dr Charging works, data not so much, any way to get something on this phone?
BTW: I don't want to buy a Jtag Box or something else that is 1 time use and 20$+
Thanks so much in advance!
Hi
Never give up, always there are solutions just you need to find it!
And yeah, you're right the cheap quality original leeco cable made this big problem as You say.
We already talked about this problem, because my phone's port was burned as well, but I could repair it, with an original USB flex board.. So now my phone stayed alive and he is just like the original one
I think won't be good the cheap fake Usb boards from aliexpress.. etc.
You need only the factory version!
Please check these topics, I have written there the solutions!

Thank you very much! I hope there really is a difference between the boards you can get from aliexpress and the one you get from taobao. Gonna order tomorrow and then wait :highfive::good:

Your issue could be the motherboard.
Absolutely those factory cables are garbage, we had two Leeco destroyed by bad cables in my house. Fortunately, they were under Amazon's warranty and they were replaced with new phones.
Currently I also have a critical issue also, where my phone will start in fastboot, but will shut down when attempting to boot to the system or recovery.
To make matters worse, I could only find used motherboards priced on the average of $150 which is way too high when you can find a complete X720 on Aliexpress for about the same price :
As far as getting your data, can you boot to fastboot, if so you may be able to copy the data from the phone and then erase storage using adb. For example, adb pull <path-of-the-file> or : adb pull sdcard/ ( this should work)
As far as the issue about you phone, something that you flashed may have damaged the board. Last week several people had damage as the result of flashing a Rom that didn't have thermals ( it was an accident / Oversight)
Another option, if you are like me and cash is tight. Xiaomi has several quality phones for around $200 and the specs are excellent. Phones such as the A2, Note 6 Pro, or check this out ( Then google Snapdragon 636 vs 821 )
I hope something here helps you.

Hi
Sorry for the late answer, but I was very busy in this week!
.
So You can buy the original board from Taobao but only through Yoybuy. You can buy lots of factory parts for the phone or any other gadgets as well of course. Just you have to use the taobao's item link.
Here you can find what I I bought. This is 100% original board!
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=563268285618
It was only 14$+ 7$ was the yoybuy service fee. The shipping cost depends of the shipping version.
The whole shipping after my payment was about 2 weeks to hungary!
Good luck!

While what this website is selling is hard to determine for an English speaker. What they are selling is board repair at a super low price. Frankly, I don't understand how they make money.
But here is an option for you. I too have an old phone with a fried board, so I will research this place further and probably will mail my board to them for repair.
https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?sp...GLVYx&scm=1007.13066.127260.0&id=559560190173
By the way, you have to create a account to view pricing and there is an option to change the site to whatever language you prefer. Basically with the cost of transport included it seems that we can have our motherboards repaired for under $20.

I have no idea, as I am not there with you and I don't know what steps you took to ground yourself prior to changing out the board, if you were sent the wrong board then you should contact TaoBao for a refund. They have a return policy similar to other large online vendors.
Is it possible, that you received the wrong board, or that you shorted out the board by accident? If it didn't look identical to the board that you replaced then it obviously would not be compatible. If the board was in fact a correct working board, your issue could be something else such as the usb card, the connection to the usb port, or shorted flex cables. ( I assume that you tried alternate usb cables?
To be clear the link I provided was intended for on site repair, not the sale of a motherboard for sale. (repairing the board that you already own)
For example, If you have broken solder connections, you would pay a small deposit and ship the the phone to the advertised repair shop, for them to repair, by fully reballing the board.
There have been users that were able to get their phones back in working order for under $40
Finally if you are hearing a buzzing noise then you have a burned capacitor which should be an easy and cheap fix for a shop that has the tools and can repair at the component level.
Edit
The price of these phones have recently dramatically dropped Here you can find a new 4GB/64GB X720 for $140
You can replace the usb board yourself. Hardest part is removing the screen. You need a heat gun for that. And double sided 3m tape to reattach.
The actual board only costs $5.
Amazing that a 400 phone will be rendered useless by a $5 part.
Hey guys it's me again, I didn't know what to do and the phone was just flying around collecting dust. But I found a seller that apparently stocks original USB Boards. The ones you could get so far were missing components that are required for OTG etc.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/USB...833.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.71874c4dOUgL1P
It's 13$ but well, better than a wrecked phone. Now I can also solder quite well, sad I threw away my original board otherwise I could have transplanted the missing IC circuitry. This wasn't a problem I thought that would happen. "Missing" components on a board never happend to me and "a**hat" move to sell boards without saying that it's only good for charging...
This is the part I bought off eBay.

The only soldering necessary was that it didn't come with the speaker so had to remove it from the old bad board and solder it to the new one.
Phone has been back to functional since. I had to replace battery as well because I think the heat gun damaged it. That was about $17

Is OTG working since the compontens of the product you send are also missing on the photo.
Did you want me to attach an otg adapter to my phone to see if it could access the storage?
Or did you want me to connect my phone to a computer via usb-c cable to see if it could be accessed by the computer?
FYI, here's pictures of the old board from my x727 for reference

Here's my comparison between an old Aliexpress board I ordered and the new one with all the necessary IC components on it. Quite the difference...
How much was the new board? Not knowing really if it would work or not, I just ordered the cheaper 5$ board.

Could you please share the link where you bought the genuine board from?
