Accidental OTA on Rooted GN3....What Now? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
I accidentally applied the OTA to my Note 3 this morning as I was waking up and not really thinking about it. I have a Nandroid Backup, and have Titanium Backup (which I can no longer access). Do I have to return the phone to stock, re-root it, and go from there? I feel like a schmuck for not looking this up prior to applying the OTA. Thanks in advance.

Will I lose memo after update?

My friend lost the memo app on her samsung phone after upgrading to 2.2. Will these DJ0509 updates er whatever do that to me?
Basically, I haven't updated the software at all. I rooted and uninstalled a ton of bloatware right after getting the phone, and I guess I lost whatever it is that does the updates so I'm still on day 1 version... I've been thinking of updating.
Well, if I understand the rooted rom/update scenario I've read a bunch of times here (though not done myself), when you use the rooted flash scenario to put on the updates, it will wipe your device. So you will need to back it all up with titanium or something.
If you are stock and you OTA update the DL09 that just released this morning, then nothing gets removed or lost on your phone. This I did do and it's all there.
Are you talking about doing the standard update, via Verizon and Innopath ????
Backup with Titanium Backup. Install your new ROM/Software/Kernel/Theme. Use ROM manager/Download ROM/SonofSkyWalker3/Stock Apps. Chose Memo to reinstall. Install/Reboot. Go into Titanium and restore memos. All of your saved memos will be there.
Hope that helps.

Installing a rooted update .zip wont wipe user data. It will only wipe system. Also he wont be able to install via OTA because of the bloatware removal. Since OTA updates patch files instead of overwriting them. If it can't find them the update will fail.
So if you were to update using say super clean DL09 you won't lose user data. But if you were to flash the full odin DI01 so you could get the DL09 OTA, you will lose user data.
If you haven't done something please don't spread false information regardless of if you read about it many times, because you obviously got it wrong.

[Q] Noob question about Titanium Backup...

So I have a rooted play on 2.3.3.
Previously I used OTA to update and keep my root.
However, the latest update will not apply. It downloads, installs...then says can't apply.
I have not removed any apps, and I have unfroze the apps I froze.
So, looks like I am going to have to do a complete roll back and update again.
If I do a complete backup in Titanium, can I simply reinstall everything easily once I get back?
ps. What is the best way to do this so I can keep my root. Previously I downgraded, then rooted, then updated via OTA.
Thanks!
Yes you will be able to restore your TB, when updated, with no problems.
Yes just do it as previously and the OTA to newest firmware will still preserve root.
Regards Dousan...
Thanks Dousan.
Any thoughts on why the OTA update is failing currently?

I've seen a few with the same issue as you. They also only froze bloat but still no success when OTA after defrost? It might not like any tampering at all with system apps whether it's just freezing or modifying them. Any kind of tampering might leave a trail SE updates detects and then abort updating. Just a guess.
You're welcome, just glad to help out
Regards Dousan...
I unfroze my apps (didnt remove anything off the phone) and applied the ota update no problems . Maybe as Dousan has said you froze something that is safe to uninstall/freeze but once unfroze it is possibly not be running properly or SE has detected it being modified in someway.
Also if you have the pro version of titanium make more than one backup or make another backup of the most important apps data individually since sometimes the backups may be corrupt (might not happen, but better safe than sorry).
Freezing something that is not safe does not affect the ota updating. It's when you delete something that is safe that screws it. I ota updated to the xloud patch with about 15 stock programs frozen.

I didn't delete anything so it must be something else.

Have you at some point installed the leaked SE launcher or Android market or the camera mod? Have you done any modding with UOT kitchen or installed @thomassafca's Samsung theme?
Regards Dousan...
I didn't install the launcher BUT...
I did install the camera mod.
Is this the one that lets you take pics with the R button and focus with L?
https://market.android.com/details?id=seb.camera.mod&feature=search_result
I thought that was ok since it didn't need root.
ps. if I unistall it, do you think update will work?

It might, though I don't think so as it installs in /data/app as other non stock/system apps. Try it out it wouldn't hurt.
Regards Dousan...
Nah, it didn't fix it.
I think I will wait until the big update comes out and go the way of downgrading then rooting then updating clean.
Must have been something I did.

Installing patched update over update...

Hello friends,
I just went thru this whole ordeal. I reinstalled my 3.2 backup, but it wasn't rooted. That's when I realized root is written to the device and not the rom. I didn't know this. Anyway, after going thru hours of doing this all again and installing my virgin backup with nothing but root access (oh brother, what a pain) I realized something:
Theoretically, if something went wrong, and I had to reinstall my unrooted backup, and since you can't root 3.2, couldn't I just go into recovery (since I would already have that from gaining original root access) and install the rooted 3.2 update over 3.2 non-rooted and it would be rooted all over again? I haven't tried it, but I think that would work, wouldn't it?
Thanks!
Also, I know about Titanium backup, but I don't like it b/c it's left me with corrupted backups and missing data time and time again.

Android Beta Update on rooted phone

Few days ago, I was very suprised because I thought that If you have rooted android, the phone won't be able to update by itself. I got the notification to update it... I clicked on "Download" button to download an update and soon, the device restarted into recovery mode.. And that's all... I restarted the system and nothing happend.. The android did not update. Now I recieved the notification to install update again. How can I update it? Will I lose any data?

I read few comments.. And they said that you can easily brick your phone, and when that happens even Nandroid backup doesn't help you anymore. Umm.. Do you lose root or any data when flashing ota update through FlashFire?
Thank you!

I've used it several times for ota updates. Just flashed the DP2 a few days ago. There's always a risk when using apps like these but I'd say Nexus devices are more brick-safe than other phones with flashfire. It has options to restore both root and recovery. Also restores data. Only things that didn't remain intact were my pixel mods (assistant, navbar, etc. ) and substratum themes but that is expected and they were easily reinstalled. The first boot also takes awhile after flashing ota, maybe 5-8 minutes? Not sure as I left phone charging.
