Hello guys,
I got a problem to use maps with my Defy CM10. When you use any app that uses maps such as Google Maps or Foursquare, the location on the screen where it should showing the map is completely black, but all other functions are normal.
I've rebooted, deleted the cache, fix permissions, uninstalled applications, installed again, but nothing solves the problem.
Anyone have any tips or experienced this problem before?
Attached are the screenshots of Google Maps and Foursquare showing a black screen.
Thanks!

If you've disabled HWA for these apps, then just enable it.

Open your App Drawer. There should be an app there called 'Hwa Settings'. When you open it it'll show you a list of all your apps (downloaded and system) with a checkbox next to their names. If you want to enable Hwa then make sure the checkbox is selected and vice-versa.
For ex., if you want to enable Hwa for Hangouts then open the Hwa Settings app, scroll till you find Hangouts and select the checkbox (it's selected by default for all apps)
Hit the Thanks button if you think this information was helpful!

FYI if anyone updated Google Maps you're probably having issues with your Google Navigation where it hangs at some "Checking Navigation Availability" screen.
Solution: Market -> Apps -> Long press Google Maps -> Uninstall Updates

This would be a good solution except that the latest Market update is broken too, and any attempt to access my apps or clicking any app results in a FC.

this is not a specific problem to galaxy s. I am having it on my desire and I took these steps, but it didnt work.
I was having the same problem after flashing Perception 10. All I did was clear the data in Google Maps and then I went to the Places app and nav'ed a location from there and it was successful there. So then I went back to navigation and it worked fine. :\
Google Navigation and TTS Service
I didn't want to start a new thread, but I wanted to post something that I noticed today.
I was playing with my Samsung Fascinate and used Titanium to (safely) freeze as many of the unused applications and services.
TTS service is Text-To-Speach, and, since I didn't find any warnings about it, I froze it. Soon after, I realized that the Google Navigation wasn't responding.
Long story short, after I unfroze TTS service, it worked again.
This is just for your information, in case that somebody gets into a similar situation. If this is a well known fact (that the noobie that I am didn't know about), I apologize. I only wanted to help.
all the best and thank you all for all the work
I still have the 'Update Maps' on my Market, but I didn't do it..
When I had Froyo 2.2 standard through Kies, I had no issues with my navigation.
After flashing Darky's v8.0 I'm also getting the "Checking Navigation Availability" screen. So none of the solutions above worked for me..
Anyone got an idea?
Thx.

tried the above solutions, still not working on my Galaxy Tab, still stuck on "Checking navigation availability".
Can anyone in Hong Kong confirm if Google navigation is active or not?
With the previous (stock) maps 4.5 navigation is notavailable in HK, but rumour seems that it should work with the new 5.0 maps update... anyone?
I have had this happen twice on my Vibrant. The first time the above suggestion to clear the data worked, but the second time it did not. I was however able to get around it by doing the following:
Close navigation, then open maps. In maps, go to menu > directions and enter any address (I used one from a contact), hit go, and once the directions are up, hit the navigation button in the upper right corner. That should start the navigation program normally (no "checking navigation availability" BS). Once the navigation starts successfully, you can exit and from then on it should start normally from the dedicated Nav icon.
Hope this helps at least one person.

Worked for me!
There must be some incompatibility between versions of Maps in the data coding memory!
Galaxy S ; Darkyy's ROM 8.0;No lag fix yet.
Goto manage apps and clear cache and data. See post http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2444687 of yuzaman!
works on galaxy S
worked for me after darkeys extreme update cheers

For me this was the solution:
1. I stopped the Maps application, cleared the cache and deleted the data from the maps application via Home > Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications; Tab "All"; Application "Maps"; Force stop; Clear cache; Clear data
2. I opened the Maps application (not Navigation) and accepted the change message
3. I went back to the home screen and started the Navigation application
4. Accepted the message
5. Navigation works like a charm (again)!
So I opened up youtube on my Xoom to find it loading the same App that my Droid uses. I was puzzled for a couple minutes but I went to my apps and uninstalled updates for my youtube app. Then when I went to opened up youtube again the problem was fixed and the beautiful honeycomb version of the youtube app was loading.
For a better look at this issue and the solution I posted a video describing this issue and the solution.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPDgmUZnD0Q
this happened to me too I just uninstalled youtube from the market and now its back to honeycomb version
This happened to me and resolved it the same way you did, but now the problem is that Youtube is showing under the not installed section on the marketplace.
mine was showing up as not installed in market, so i stupidly installed it. I get the phone version now. I just tried uninstalling it and there's no option to. what do i do now?
Uninstall from the Market itself

Forgive me if you already tried this. But go to marketplace, then 'My Apps' and find the youtube app. In the middle panel on the bottom should be a button to click that says 'uninstall updates' , this is also reflected in the above video in the root post of the thread.
If you already tried this, go to the advanced setting panel. go to applications and all apps. When there look for youtube app and try to force close it. If it was running now try to repeat the above step.
Hope this helps

thanks, but it didn't work. I first went to Settings to force close it, but it wasn't running. I cleared cache anyway.
then in market, there is no option to uninstall updates or even uninstall the program.
not sure what's going on.

Do you perhaps have a youtube widget out on one of your home docks?
no I don't have the widget

Enable Youtube and Google Books on your Wifi only Xoom
Do Not Return Your Xoom
If you have had a problem with the missing YouTube and/or Google Books application, here is the fix that works:
1. Connect to WiFi network.
2. Go into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
3. Go to the "All" tab and then scroll down and select "Google Partner Setup."
Clear Data.
Reboot your Xoom. (That is, turn it off and on.)
If this doesn't work, perform a factory reset (Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset) and try the sequence above again.
Good Luck
Google maps regularly closes during navigation, it's not a force close, it just disappears. I have made sure it's protected, I have tried clearing data and cache of Google maps. The version is 9.16.2. I'm on B200, on the GRA-L09.
Does this happen to anyone else?

I have this problem too (i'm on b200). Maps doesn't appear in the protected app list.
Note that similar issues occurred for background apps (wallpaper auto changer, calendar widget, etc.) and i've fixed them using performance mode in power saving settings instead of smart/intelligent.
MapsD (NimaGL2 Default Edition).apk
I am on b200 aswell and gad the same problem.
I need maps and google navigation at work so this wasnt acceptable for me.
I rooted my mobile and deinstalleted google maps completly.
Then iinstalled maps in the version 6.14 ,which I prefer much more.
I installes by this app ( MapsD (NimaGL2 Default Edition).apk ).
Since then no crash or closing anymore

I have flashed the fromfuture but haven't had the opportunity to test the navigation properly yet. I will report back. If it doesn't help I will try the solution suggested above.
I still have the same problem with the fromfuture rom. Not really sure what to do, I may have to roll back to an earlier rom and just live with that.

Hi, I have solved this problem turning on the gps... With B200
So I've been having this problem where all third party apps using the Google Maps API (S Health) for example, don't show any map features. Roads, parks, bodies of water are nonexistent, all I can see is a location indicator and a sea of grey tiles, and I don't recall changing any settings recently. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Google Play Services, reset app permissions, and cleared both the device and app cache to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.
Below are screenshots of the bug occurring in two separate apps. The same occurs in any app with a Google-powered maps function.

Weird because I and others have this problem with the G6. I had to reset the phone to fix it.

I've got my apps displaying Google maps properly now, but I haven't done anything since I posted this problem yesterday. My best guess is that uninstalling and reinstalling Google Play Services did the trick and the process behind the fix was delayed.
