DHD Maps locations and navigation not working - Desire HD General

Hey guys I'm using Android revolution on my DHD I realise that even when I have gps and my mobile network on, my location cannot be found. On the navigation app, it will 'check for navigation accessibility' thing and never work. I tried installing locations but didn't work. Any help/ideas?

For me this was the solution:
1. I stopped the Maps application, cleared the cache and deleted the data from the maps application via Home > Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications; Tab "All"; Application "Maps"; Force stop; Clear cache; Clear data
2. I opened the Maps application (not Navigation) and accepted the change message
3. I went back to the home screen and started the Navigation application
4. Accepted the message
5. Navigation works like a charm (again)!

Did hard reset - No now compass in maps and no navigation!

Hi
I was fed up with my vibrant being as slow as a three legged dog so I phoned for a replacement. I agreed to try a hard reset first and now it flies!!
Only thing I notice is that google maps now just shows a blue dot and not an arrow with my direction (not that it ever got the direction correct anyway!)
Has any one else found this? I now also don't have google navigation. When I go onto the market, it say my google maps is up to date. How do I get this all back?
Confused about this one...
Did you do a hard reset from with the settings menu or from the bootup menu?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Boot up as per t-mobiles request
IIRC the version of Maps that comes in the stock ROM doesn't do that. There should be an upgrade to Maps through the Market that adds the compass functionality. Same with Navigation...I thought I remembered having to download it the first time I used it.
I thought it always had the compass, but I remember having to download the navigation.
Trouble is market place says i have the latest version and there is no uninstall option for maps either...

Weird. If you hit the Menu button in the Market and then go to Downloads it doesn't say there's an update available? I did a factory reset not too long ago, and I didn't get the compass headings in Maps until I installed an update for it.
no, no updates available, mentions the 3d navigation on the app screen in market place. the uninstall is grey out...

What version of Maps do you have (Menu --> More --> About)? I have 4.4.0 (#4414) gmm-android-tmobile-us. I have the compass heading functionality.
I don't know if this is normal, but when I go to downloads in the marketplace, all my apps are listed as installed even though they have been wiped from the phone after the reset.
Is that normal?

I have 4.0.0 (4046). So not the latest then.
You need to do a hard reset from Settings> Privacy> Data Reset. If you do it from the boot up menu it causing the market issue and some other issues too. It doesn't actually do a complete reset. I made the same mistake. Once you do the full reset you will be able to update Google Maps through the Marketplace.

Thanks, will I lose text messages by doing that and phone numbers stored on the phone?
I was surprised that they were still there after the hard reset.
That is how you know it didn't do the job! You will lose everything and your phone will be just how it was when you first took it out of the box after doing the master reset. Your contacts should be saved to your google account and will automatically download once you sign back in. Unless you did not sync your contacts with google.

Maps is back up to date now, thanks for the pointers. Just doing the hardware reset really got rid of the lag problems, shame I had to erase all data as well just to get maps up to date.
That other reset also causes other problems down the road, best to do the full blown reset now before you get too much on the phone and have even more pain with a reset later! Glad it worked though.

Can't download anything in market - everything stuck at "Starting Download..."
Okay so recently I have run into a problem where apps won't download from market -- they are just stuck at "Starting download...".
I searched to see if this is a common problem (seems to happen to a good number of people) and I tried the solutions posted. I did factory reset, deleted cached, tried to login via different account, etc. etc. -- none of the solutions work. At best, after a factory reset for cache clear, an app or two will download before this problem occurs again. I have even tried upgrading to 2.2 market but it doesn't help.
Anyone know of any good solutions for this?
Thanks!
Rebooting the phone has always worked for me. It's happened to nearly all Android devices to someone at one point.
How good is your signal? I can't download anything with 2 bars on edge. Which is what I get at home.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Rebooting doesnt help and it is not a signal issue. Altho i was having some connectivity issues last night but my net works just fine now.
you can try canceling, and restarting the download, always works for me
also, downgrade back to 2.1, i heard 2.2 had problems
Clear the download manager and market app cache in settings/application manually. Reboot.

Thanks for all the help guys but nothing is working. I even tried reflashing JFD and upgrading to JI6 but still it doesn't work. It seems the first time I launch Market everything downloads fine but after that nothing works.
Also, a weird thing happens: Market starts downloading all these apps automatically - apps I never told it to download - but all those apps come back as downloaded unsuccessfully.
Someone did this with success and it worked for me too
I have managed to sort this now - here's what I did:
Go into settings - applications - manage applications- scoll down to market & long touch to open. Clear cache AND Uninstall updated. It will ask for confirmation and then uninstall. I then went back to market and Bluetooth file transfer downloaded and installed with no probs. Hope this helps anyone else with same problem.
Have you tried going to Settings>Applications>Manage applications and locate Market then chose Clear Cache and Uninstall Updates.
There is a problem with doing that: I see no market under "Manage Applications"

Select option to show all from manage applications, you can get this by selecting the menu button >> filter and show all while in manage applications screens.
I've run into this with my phone (rooted stock), it's beyond frustrating and I have no idea what I do or might be running that might cause the issue. I was going to do yet another wipe when I found the below info on a google support forum. Nothing I had tried besides the reset would fix my market until I did the following:
Under manage applications, filter show all, then:
Checkin Service- clear data
Download Manager- clear data
Google Apps- clear data
Google Talk Service- clear data
Market- clear cache
I have the same issue. I have tried almost everything. I found a work around. I turn off WiFi and 3g on and it will start on 3g. If that doesn't work I keep 3g on WiFi off and restart fhe downloads, and it allways starts, even group downloads in 2.2.
Not a solution but I can at least get the downloads started.
I might try the post above me and give that a go.

What usually works is going to Menu>Applications>Running Services and then stopping the the Gtalk service. Then reopen the market
this also happens to me sometimes. sometimes it will download but sometimes it won't, it's only saying "starting download" but it it's taking a long time in that status.

Google Navigation - Checking navigation availability

FYI if anyone updated Google Maps you're probably having issues with your Google Navigation where it hangs at some "Checking Navigation Availability" screen.
Solution: Market -> Apps -> Long press Google Maps -> Uninstall Updates

This would be a good solution except that the latest Market update is broken too, and any attempt to access my apps or clicking any app results in a FC.

this is not a specific problem to galaxy s. I am having it on my desire and I took these steps, but it didnt work.
I was having the same problem after flashing Perception 10. All I did was clear the data in Google Maps and then I went to the Places app and nav'ed a location from there and it was successful there. So then I went back to navigation and it worked fine. :\
Google Navigation and TTS Service
I didn't want to start a new thread, but I wanted to post something that I noticed today.
I was playing with my Samsung Fascinate and used Titanium to (safely) freeze as many of the unused applications and services.
TTS service is Text-To-Speach, and, since I didn't find any warnings about it, I froze it. Soon after, I realized that the Google Navigation wasn't responding.
Long story short, after I unfroze TTS service, it worked again.
This is just for your information, in case that somebody gets into a similar situation. If this is a well known fact (that the noobie that I am didn't know about), I apologize. I only wanted to help.
all the best and thank you all for all the work
I still have the 'Update Maps' on my Market, but I didn't do it..
When I had Froyo 2.2 standard through Kies, I had no issues with my navigation.
After flashing Darky's v8.0 I'm also getting the "Checking Navigation Availability" screen. So none of the solutions above worked for me..
Anyone got an idea?

Can anyone in Hong Kong confirm if Google navigation is active or not?
With the previous (stock) maps 4.5 navigation is notavailable in HK, but rumour seems that it should work with the new 5.0 maps update... anyone?
I have had this happen twice on my Vibrant. The first time the above suggestion to clear the data worked, but the second time it did not. I was however able to get around it by doing the following:
Close navigation, then open maps. In maps, go to menu > directions and enter any address (I used one from a contact), hit go, and once the directions are up, hit the navigation button in the upper right corner. That should start the navigation program normally (no "checking navigation availability" BS). Once the navigation starts successfully, you can exit and from then on it should start normally from the dedicated Nav icon.
Hope this helps at least one person.

Worked for me!
There must be some incompatibility between versions of Maps in the data coding memory!
Galaxy S ; Darkyy's ROM 8.0;No lag fix yet.
Goto manage apps and clear cache and data. See post http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2444687 of yuzaman!

[Q] Maps: black screen

Hello guys,
I got a problem to use maps with my Defy CM10. When you use any app that uses maps such as Google Maps or Foursquare, the location on the screen where it should showing the map is completely black, but all other functions are normal.
I've rebooted, deleted the cache, fix permissions, uninstalled applications, installed again, but nothing solves the problem.
Anyone have any tips or experienced this problem before?
Attached are the screenshots of Google Maps and Foursquare showing a black screen.
Thanks!

Open your App Drawer. There should be an app there called 'Hwa Settings'. When you open it it'll show you a list of all your apps (downloaded and system) with a checkbox next to their names. If you want to enable Hwa then make sure the checkbox is selected and vice-versa.
For ex., if you want to enable Hwa for Hangouts then open the Hwa Settings app, scroll till you find Hangouts and select the checkbox (it's selected by default for all apps)

Google Maps support voice navigation. I'm not sure if it is better or worse than other apps, but it is there.
Same here, fortunately I have bought Sygic in 2014
Oh wonder....
Here was answering on the App-Feedback after the app force closed:
"Thank you for reaching out, we are sorry to hear that you had problems with HERE Maps. We are aware of the issue you are describing and our developers are already looking into it. We will get back to you in case we have some further questions on your case."
Then we have to wait......

Hi Schickel,
I have (had) the same issue, and it finally works now, I installed a bunch of different navigation apps to try them , downloaded their maps to finally think about just fully restart my phone and HERE worked!!
I don't know what is the exact reason that made Here WeGo to fully (navigation, sign in and map downloads) work again but here is my guess to maybe help you.
Force HERE WeGo to stop
Delete cache
Delete files
Uninstall HERE WeGo
Restart the Xperia XZ Premium
Install HERE WeGo and don't start the app
Go to
Settings >Storage & memory>Advanced>Keep Cache
Select HERE WeGo
Close everything
Restart phone
Start Here WeGo
It worked for me and I'm happy to use my favorite Navigation App again, hope it will work for you also.
Cheers.

Sorry to read that
here are more "hints" about how i was using my phone before it worked
it was only the 4th or 5th full phone restart since i bought it ( i rarely reboot)
HERE worked again "after" installing different navigation apps, don't know if that did something (it will be weird), but i will uninstall them one by one and get back to you if HERE crashes again or not.
When HERE worked, i start the app by hazard just to test it again, it was a fresh install, wasn't signed in and no map downloaded, i went straight to navigation and it was my surprise to see that screen scrolling without crash, i tried a route and it worked, i was outside and not connected to any wifi antenna.
i then signed in without problem, and downloaded a map.
I remember also that after fresh HERE installation and before first launch, i went to app settings to manually authorize HERE to access Position and Storage.

I've tested around many options with different navi apps. And nothing helps.
Now I'm back back to Navigon. It also uses maps from HERE and it have one good feature what HERE not have: planning a route with layovers.
EDIT:
Now I've got the firmware upgrade to 45.0.A.5.1. But this also doesn't fix my problem.
I give it up for now
