Well now that they have been announced I have a questions are there any differences between them ? Will they both get the same Dev support ? I made the mistake of buying the galaxy 2 from tmobile and worse decision I ever did had to get rid of it and buy a gnex since the support for the galaxy s2 was the worst and always behind..... Since I have tmobile might ass well use one of my upgrades and save some money on the lg4 just making sure I won't be stuck getting late updates or have luck of support like some people with the Verizon galaxy nexus are having but I understand why since they are using lte which changes the phone around......
thanks for all the help in advanced
There literally is no difference other than the contract you sign.

NO! Pay $150 more to not have to worry about a contract, PLUS pay less with a Value or Pre-Paid Tmo plan.
It is too soon to tell if there will be a software difference. Anyone who says differently needs to provide a link showing proof.
The hardware will be the same.
Actually, it seems that the T-Mobile version will have 42mbps HSPA+, while the version in the google play store only goes up to 21mbps HSPA+.
Other than that, I would assume they would be identical.

FFS people. There are not two versions. It has 8GB or 16GB, those are the SKUs. They're both 42mbps HSPA+.
Google's own Play Store had a typo. It's even been fixed there: https://play.google.com/store/devic...wNV9uZXh1c1VTXzFfcHJvbW9fMTM1MTUyODMyNzI1OCJd
It's DC-HSPA+ 42mbps.

My bad, I saw the 21 earlier and I thought it was some deal between T-Mobile and Google. The Galaxy Nexus international and US unlocked versions were identical hardware-wise, and since there won't be a CDMA version, there shouldn't be any differences with the Nexus 4

Not hardware-wise, but there could be software-wise.
Look at all the yakju variants, which are identical hardware, but different software.

AT&T is almost always six months behind the initial release of an Android version. They take their sweet time adding all their bloat and locking it down more.

The At&t Note 3 just now (from October) has some things we can do (Safestrap, ROMS, Etc) but also has the Locked Bootloader like we all know.
If I bought a Developer Edition phone going forward, I wont have this problem. Thats why I'm choosing not to buy At&t products anymore. They will be locked. I've been with At&t for 18 years. It won't work. The bootloader is locked on the ATT version. That means no kernels. The kernel must be digitally signed by AT&T (or Samsung for AT&T) to work. That is why all roms for the AT&T version use the stock AT&T 4.3 kernel. If you want a freely customizable device sell the ATT version and get the Tmobile version. It works on AT&T.

Hello all. I've been running a Note 2 on Sprint for the last 14 months and I've enjoyed the experience. I am probably switching to VZW here in a month or so and will probably get a Note 3.
I've been reading on this forum here and there and am curious what types of things will be different with having a locked bootloader. I read the entire BL unlocked thread, which apparently was a scam, unfortunate.
It is my intention to only run TW Roms, AOSP has it's place but I prefer tweaked TW. What won't I be able to do with the locked BL that I could with it gone?
Thanks for your time.

Also, if I'm right, there are no discounts on VZW for having your own phone. That makes the phone a LOT more expensive.

Verizon has something called "Verizon Edge" It allows you to upgrade your phone whenever you want. So I think you get a discount for having your own phone. I'd look into that.
By the way, Verizon has the best 4G coverage BY FAR. You'll be happy with the speed and coverage. It will just suck to have limited data. Luckily I'm still grandfathered into my unlimited data plan running the Galaxy Note 3.

Yeah, where I live VZW is king.
For comparison, Sprint just unveiled their new shiny 4G LTE network here. I'm currently roaming 3G on VZW and my data speeds beat Sprint's new LTE garbage. Not to mention signal penetration, at work I can hardly even talk on the phone unless I'm roaming on VZW.
So, solely for reception purposes I'm going VZW, it's pretty much a necessity.
I will ask about the Edge when I sign up, thanks for the heads up!
This is a thread to discuss any findings, in regards to WiFi calling for the Moto X Style/2015/Pure.
Since there is going to be one unlocked version for all carriers, I'm guessing it's going to be included a carrier's software delivery service in the phone that when you log into your network, it download all the bloatwares for that specific carriers to your phone, or not.
I guess they won't have it because previous Moto X didn't have it either.
The Nexus 6 recently got updated to Android 5.1.1 which addressed the Wi-Fi Calling feature add-on baked in. In fact, from what I've read, T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling is open source and Google directly worked with it to incorporate it natively in Android M, basically have the feature baked in. Having the previous in mind, I would think the Moto X Style will eventually have this feature, especially once it is updated to Android M, which should be soon after Android M is officially released by Google. Any other thoughts?

I keep forgetting that Android M feature and the fact T-Mobile is one of few carriers ready to support it .
That settles it for sure.
I'm waiting for September, to buy a Moto X Pure/Style.
The current Nexus 6 T-Mobile WiFi calling, requires the T-Mobile ROM for that device AFAIK. With the Moto Pure, we'll be able to have the true Moto Unlocked ROM and WiFi calling via Android M. Zero need for any T-Mobile controlled ROM.

At a minimum it needs radio and firmware support. I haven't seen moto promise any support for wifi calling in any of their devices for M at this point. I believe its possible but mostly wishful thinking.

It's not as if they said the device won't have support. Do you even have record of them ever being asked? I feel it likely will. But we will see in very short time.
If not, I still prefer the Moto X Pure. But I see nothing to support pessimism on it at this point.

Obviously nobody is going to pay a carrier for phone service if they cannot make calls. So, we who have T-Mobile must be getting coverage for our usual needs.
WiFi calling for me, would be a plus for the few times a year I am at a place where I cannot get phone coverage. And in some of those cases, AT&T devices can't get a signal either.
I should also mention, there is no "radio" support required. I've used T-Mobile WiFi calling on devices, where I flashed non-T-Mobile radios and with the T-Mobile ROM the WiFi calling still worked. So the WiFi calling is all in the ROM and that is what Google has in Android M. I've already cited above, that people using Android M previews are already using this with no issues. So, it will work with the Moto X Pure and there's zero to indicate otherwise.

I would switch to T-mobile is a flash if I didn't have to drive a mile from my house to make a phone call.
If you have WFi and a phone that has WiFi Calling anabled, then you don't have to drive a mile.
Fact is that you should find a carrier that suits your needs. For me, I'm in a huge metro area, but my parents live a little further out from a major city. BOOM! WiFi Calling solves the issue.
Cheaper plans, great feature, no problems.

Wonder if T-Mobile will even carrier it ... I'm fairly new to T-Mo (with them less than a year) but I don't recall them carrying either of the other X devices.
Motorola was pretty proud of the fact that they were bypassing the carriers entirely for their new devices. Problem is, it looks like their phones will be neutered compared to the carrier branded ones (at least for some T-Mobile feature). Guess I'll be waiting for the next Nexus to see what happens there.

This was a given, since it's not running a T-Mobile ROM. But it already works in Android M preview ROMs. So we know for certain it will work without a T-Mobile ROM running M.
Is there a relationship between volte and band 12? I see them always mentioned together. Can you not do volte on bands 2 or 4?
I plan on testing the M preview radios out once I unlock it. I can also check into the band support from QXDM, etc. and see what would be necessary to get it going. Either way, I can easily see wifi calling working with it.
Now i know this is a GSM device, but I have wondered, it has the bands that support Verizon LTE network. So why can't this device be used with them?
It won't happen, unfortunately. Verizon has always been against unlocked international phones, (take the nexus and early xperia lines for example) and without a specific cmda edition, (like moto g did) this phone won't work on Verizon. I don't understand their policies or reasons, but if you are interested in phones like the 1+2 and nexus line, (you should be) do what I did and hop to another carrier (T-Mobile or att) with good coverage in your area. Its worth it to get the phone you want

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I figured it would be better to post in an existing than clutter the board with another.
I heard Verizon is possibly rolling out VoLTE, would the OPT work on it? I too have unlimited, so switching is sort of off the table currently.
Is there any issues when hooking up this phone with at&t or T-Mobile. I'm ditching my boost/sprint phone so I'll be going another prepaid route. I know in the past guys with the Asus Zenfone 2 which I say is a equal rival to this phone had issues on at&t where at&t said they may not get LTE even though the phone supports LTE. I will buying a new phone one way or another Friday. And still debating my options on GSM or CDMA. OnePlus 2, Zenfone 2, and a few others. I just don't want some suprises.
Does this take a nano sim or micro sim
