Over/under clocking problem - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I'm having CPU clock changing problems with every ROM and kernel I tried! When I change maximum or minimum CPU frequency in settings, go back and reopen CPU settings I find that nothing changed! Plz help!!!

Setcpu has a realtime widget. Shows temp, max and minimum setting and current processor freq. Can also be set to check only at certain intervals. I set mine to update every 5 seconds

yea.. i used to ise setcpu but i like the widget and controls of System Tuner Pro better. only thing is in System Tuner under cpu tweaks you can actually see if and when the 2nd core is turned off. I'm looking for a widget that can reflect that, so that i dont have to open the program to see it..thx tho!
Ya I know what you mean. I think with ivs we will have better core management abilities.

[Q] CPU Clock speed

So I was trying to mess around with CPU profiles and I noticed that the low end of the CPU is clocked at 1GHz. If I lower it with Rom Toolbox, it just goes right back up after I leave the menu. the profiles won't stick, governors don't make a difference, and I'm a little confused.
Can someone shed some light on this for me?
I thought the lowest speed was 384 MHz? Install CPU Spy and check what it says.
It is 384MHz. The lower frequency change because of project butter that make the cpu run at a higher frequency when you touch the screen.

Dont you need a custom kernal in order to change the clock speeds?

No, we can already change it but it won't stick since it has its own frequency management.

Is this somewhat similar to perflocker in HTC devices? It had to be disabled to change any cpu settings AT ALL with the stock kernel.

You're right. I guess it just has its own profile to set at 1GHz when the screen is on, because the CPU Spy showed it in Deep Sleep/384Mhz for the majority of the night.

I would also like to know peoples settings to get an idea of what's normal.

I can reduce cpu voltage on all frequencies by 40 mV but gpu lags at anything above 450 mhz(performance governor), also I'm on doomkernel and I can't properly underclock for some reason...

does ur battery life improved after this ?
im on 1.7ghz max , 300 min , slimkat rom interactive , row ..

Mine is 1574 mhz max and 300 mhz min interactive row, stock kernel and @Nut 4.3 ROM..do i need to set on boot the default governor? Battery life is good and not overheating too much while playing NOVA 3..

If you do that all your seffings will go back to default like governors. There should be the option to set the same parameters on boot to keep all like you have right now. I don't know if on rooted Z1 there is this settings but should be because I remember I did all of this with android on different devices.
My Z1 with DoomKernel and the latest Monx Rom
1.7 Ghz Max
300 Mhz Min
Intellidemand and noop
(I see a lot of people are using row though, so may need to test it and see if I notice a difference - that and undervolting..)
Current discharge rate is at 3.2% per hour and that's including wifi never being off, some gaming, instant messaging conversations and emails

Can't change CPU settings? Any ideas?

Hi all after wiping my nook and starting again I've had quite significant battery issues. I've now followed the general advice out there and removed as much as possible etc so far so good but according to cpu spy and nofrills cpu it's still using 600mhz and 800mhz despite me using nofrills to lock it to 300. Anyone any ideas on why it isn't working? It shows the success popup but just doesn't mean actually stop the nook using the higher speeds.

So to clarify when I change cpu settings with no frills cpu it says success etc and applies on boot too but cpu spy shows its still using higher cpu values outside of the range I set.

setting the Lowest Maximum CPU Freq

hello guys.
i just want to ask this very simple question, what MAX lowest freq i set on the G2? stock at 2.3ghz. can i set it at 1.5ghz? will it battery life?
thanks
Yes you can adjust cpu but you should have root. If you have root then use setcpu
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda app-developers app
thanks man! yes i have root, and i already set my Freq at 1.7ghz. so, will it somehow increase battery life? or battery will be the same?
thanks
Not that much if you do a lot yes but if you use it moderately it will be useless

Create different profiles in setcpu . I had made a profile in which when i yurn off the screen the cpu comes to 252mhz(maximum) which saves battery
