New Factory Packaging Method? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So long story short, I'm on my third note 3 due to defects in the first two. When I received this note 3 however, I noticed that there was plastic on the sides and on the camera lens, in addition to the plastic on the front and back. Was just curious if Samsung changed something or if this is how they are supposed to come and the stores just remove the plastic before selling the device. I know its trivial, but I am always curious
Edit: If this belongs in general, can a Mod please help me move the thread? Thanks!

Just curious, what where the defects? My camera wont focus properly but I'm thinking that's more of a software issue.

First one had issues with spen pen accuracy and sensitivity. The second one had a poor chrome finish, parts of the trim were not painted properly, exposing the black underneath.
As far as the camera goes, does it have issues when you tap to focus or when you hit the camera button, then it tries to focus?

Both. It rarely focuses properly and once I finally get it to focus and snap a picture it blurs before taking the shot.
Mainly on close-up shots.

didnt notice any clear sticker protector on my lense, perhaps you have one on yours?

When I got mine at the store It didn't have plastic on the side but in some unboxing videos I have seen they did. So it could be that in store they are taking some of the plastic off. Not sure why though.

Very strange. Maybe it could also do where the phone came from? Mine is from China, I am not sure if they use different plants though.

Ditto to this.
Had the same issue on trying to get it to focus on some close up pictures [of food, I know, I know,...] I was taking last night in low level light.
It takes amazing pictures when there is enough light, but terrible ones in low light with a hard time to focus to tap.
Tried installing other camera apps [Camera 360] and didn't notice any improvement,...yet.

Bought mine from Best Buy and, yes, it did have all the plastic protective pieces. The one on the camera had a cut out so the camera was completely usable even with the plastic on. I bought mine on launch day, so I'm assuming that's the way they all were supposed to ship.
No complaints about the camera here.
And slightly unrelated, but I also bought 2 additional SGS4's that night and they both had the identical plastic coverings as well.

Cool! So it seems verizon must remove these pieces if you get it in store.

I was thinking maybe they gave you a used one that had been returned already, or they were using it for a demo model? Not really sure, but I've been with 3 carriers in 3 years, with 4 different Samsung Galaxy series (Galaxy Epic, Galaxy Epic 4GT, Galaxy SIII, and the current ones listed above) phones and every one of them have had these same protective pieces. And they were purchased at a variety of stores, Sprint, Amazon, US Cellular, and Best Buy.

It is possible, however both times the accessories were still sealed and the device still had the front and back plastic. Its just the side and camera plastic that were missing.

Camera Lens Peeling Off

Has anyone noticed their back camera lens start to peel off? The top of mine pops up ever so slightly and I can push it back down. It'll sit for a while but come up again no matter how long I hold it.
Maybe I could some how heat it up enough to where the glue melts that I can hold it in place. I ordered mine online and really don't want to go through the exchange process. It would be like taking your baby back to the hospital after he's born for another two weeks.
You sure thats just not the protective plastic the a500 comes with ?
No, its certainly that black peice of glass (or plastic) that's over the lens.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
That sucks! Did it just happen or did it get hit or was maybe left in a hot car or something?
I know you don't want to but I think its best to return it.

I'd like to see a pic.
It isn't the lense that is popping off, it is simply the plastic covering. Mine is popping a bit as well, think I'll crazy glue it down.
Yeah, its not the lens but I wasn't about to put "plastic camera thing is peeling" in the subject lol
Here's a picture

I really want to exchange it. I ordered mine online and picked it up at my local bestbuy store. I called the store and they said I couldn't do exchanges in-store for an online order. Bestbuy.com says differently. I emailed them both hoping to get a definite answer.

Wow. Discovered today that if I push on the back camera, even the slightest pressure, the camera doesn't work. The camera app shows a big green screen. I'm starting to think that it isn't the glass frame that's off but the whole camera module it self.
Add just a little more pressure and you can see distortion on the display opposite of where the camera is placed. There must not be anything between the camera module and the LCD.
Definitely sound like you got a defective model.
I wouldn't suggest anyone start putting pressure on the camera housing to test. It's not like they were built for anything other than it's normal function and day to day stresses.
agentdax5, return it however you have too. I wouldn't try and fix it or make it any worse. Just package it up and send it back.
Exchanged it today no problem but it looks like this one has the same problem...
Not as bad as before but still. Almost makes me want to return it and wait for a Galaxy Tab 10.1
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
I'd take it right back then on the next exchange, open it up in front of them and check.
Thanks for the advice. I should be going back tomorrow. They had 3 left when I went, hope they don't happen to sell them by then.

A total of 3 exchanges later i finally got one without the lens peeling!

I ordered my A500 online and picked it up at my local Best Buy. When I got it home it had a 1.5 inch crack running across one corner of the screen. I took it back the next morning and they swapped it out (after I convinced them I didn't break it). There was never any question of how I ordered it or if I just came in and picked it up. You should report whoever at that store told you that to the manager, and if it was the manager report it to the home office. Times are tough enough without stupid employees running off customers over BS like that.
I don't have this problem
Tried to apply pressure to the rear and front camera while the photo app was open and no mishaps. As for surface peeling I've not had any such issues and frankly, after inspection, have a hard time seeing how any such problem would be possible.

mine is identical in the fact that its peeling. i just push it down might get some double sided tape to put it down better. no biggie.

Camera mounted wrong?

Hey, I want to make sure I'm not the only with this problem. I picked up a new 32g last night at Walmart, and after giving it a thorough once over, I found that the front facing camera is not mounted center in the hole. The pinhole that is the camera lens is slightly left of the clearing made for it in the screen. I know I'm being anal, but after spending close to $300 on something I expect at least the build quality to be closer to perfect. Do any of y'all have this problem?

Condition you got your tablet in.

What's the condition you got your tablet in? Were there any defects?
Prostrate. Definitely prostrate. Tablet was perfect though. Mods - humor can only be suppressed so far.

Factory sealed.
Why do you ask?
Are people getting used, physically damaged ones?
Odd question. Regardless, my 32 gig unit from Memory Express in Calgary, Alberta was perfect, the box was in great shape, fully sealed and not damaged. The tablet had it's plastic protector wrapped around it, all accessories also as expected.

Maybe they're asking if it arrived without any defects?
IDK....
Mine was Ø defects.
I don't know exactly if this is suppose to be like this...But I've noticed that my N7 Gen2 arrived with these strange little "knicks", "dings" or indents...Whatever you wanna call them....Right between where the edge of my device is and where the screen starts.
It's a very minor defect if it is one...So I won't be returning it as everything else is perfect on it, and isn't exactly worth the hassle.
Like others, mine was factory sealed, the battery had about a 40% charge (I picked it up at a local Staples store).
My n7 came factory sealed but it has an oil slick on the back around the nexus label. In addition, I have noticed some of the reported problems with the gps and momentary freezing when I'm using a browser. Otherwise, I am quite happy with my n7.

Hmm...I tried taking pictures...But they're pretty small, and I don't exactly have a super good camera (N4). The pictures I tried taking, just had light reflecting in the area I'm talking about.
Here is what I got:
!NOTE!: The very bright part at the top isn't what im talking about..Thats just light reflecting...But you can sort've make out in the very corner, the "dings" I was talking about. This is all around the device in the crack between where the screen (glass/whatever) and the device edge. As I said...Its minor for me, and not really worth taking back.

Odd, I thought I was the only one. Picked mine up at a local Wal-Mart on a whim and was expecting a pristine N7 like my first four 2012 N7s. Checked the seals on the box just in case and they were all good, but was surprised to see what looked like a smudge/fingerprint on the screen after taking off the plastic (not mine, obviously) as well as little nicks on the top left edge right in between the screen and the back. Almost looks like as if someone tried to pry the thing open... the device itself works perfectly with no issues so I'm still trying to decide if it's worth taking a gamble and exchanging it for a new one.
Brand new. Still sealed. No issues or problems so far. 32GB Model Nexus 7

Picked first at Staples had been opened (seal on white box ropes) and plastic taken off abs it was already on. The screen was just off. In fact I looked at battery stats and it showed the tablet on just for a sec and not awake until 7 days later when I got it. I returned BC it had a dead pixel. Second was sealed and all however I am having multi touch issues. Just my luck.

[Q] crooked camera lens?

Am u just being picky or does it look like my camera lens is crooked? Seeing as how i basically paid retail, and within the worry free gurantee i could return it. Just wanted to check withthe community before doing so.
Mine looks crooked too, but it looks crooked differently from different angles. I think what's happening is a shadow is being cast that's making it look crooked. Could just be an optical illusion. You could always stop by Verizon and compare the floor model.

I received two N3 today and the one I got from Best Buy, the camera lens is crooked compared to the one from Verizon..
Does your camera take a while to auto focus? (Not sure if it's related to being crooked. Can't test the other N3, as it's already packaged ready to be shipped to its new owner)
I'm going to exchange it tomorrow and check it out prior to completing the swap @ BB..

I have a week old note 3 and noticed this. The camera assembly is slightly crooked/skewed to the right. Seems like a manufacturing fault, i dont think the lens itself is crooked, just the glass housing covering the lens is not glued in accurately. Camera works fine though. I checked a couple of note 3s around my workplace and almost all seem to have this defect. Cant decide whether this is a big enough issue to replace by phone or not
There is now a replacement back housing available on etradesupply for our phone.. I have since lost my note 3 and gotten a replacement from asurion and that one does not have a crooked lens..

I have a att note3 and noticed mine is crooked just a little bit. Sometimes the angle of the shadow make it look more crooked than it really is. I'm not that worried about mine though.

[Q] Loose/Wobbly Home Button

My home button on my Verizon Galaxy Note 3, has play in it. The button can be moved to where it looks crooked. I have seen other people online having this issue.
Do you guys know if this is something that is normal, or should I exchange the device?
Here is an example.
http://cdn.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/nexusae0_note3button.gif
I saw this discussed in a review of the Note 3 (can't remember the website) but it seems to be an issue in some phones. Mine seems to be just like yours.

I called the local Verizon here in Florence, KY. I had the guy walk up to the black Note 3 on display, and he said it was just a tad wobbly as well. This is going to drive me crazy! but I fear that if I get a replacement, its just going to have the same issue. The crappy part is, I am rooted, I will have to flash stock of at least use chainfire's unroot. I allready used Wanam Xposed to change the custom status... then I would have to deal with Verizon.
I just dont know at this point if its worth the hassle, what do you think?

My home button wobbles ever so slightly... I never really noticed until I just read this thread. I think I can live with it.
I noticed, my Camera lense is slightly crooked and the S-Pen is hard to take out. I think the combination of these cosmetic issues, warrants a replacement. I paid $700 for my Note 3.
