I'm loving this phone bit for some reason messaging shows unread even when I've read them all. This is also making my led go off.
Any ideas?

I think handcent does that or ringo pro does that, or sms popup all 3 do if I'm not mistaken

Popup SMS definitely has this feature.
chomp sms does all of the above. has great features such as reminder alerts, customize how many times, and how many mins between the reminder alerts. very customizable.

As the title said, just recently, and for no discernable reason, I am not getting text messages. However, because I had turned it on in GoSMS (the sms app I am using), I can see the text come in, and actually read it as it scrolls in the notification bar. I can even go to the messing app and reply without any problem, at which point, I start seeing the messages from the other person. But that is the only time I see messages...when I am in the app.
Has anyone ever encountered anything like this? I deleted the stock messaging app at one time maybe a week ago (to try and avoid multiple sms notifications), but I have since extracted it from a backup and reinstalled it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So I just upgraded to official gb using method 2 from rooted stock group and now when I get a text message on gb, I get nothingin the notification bar and no led light or vibration.
So his can I fix this? And I use the stock messaging app if that helps.
Thanks!

Open the messenger and press the options button.
On the bottom is "Display messages notifications in status" on?
Yeah that's the first thing I checked and it's on. Any other ideas?

Try a different text messaging app. Gosms would be my recommendation
I'm running CyanogenMod7 on my UK Desire Z. I'm also running Handcent SMS. My notification bar is reporting 6 unread messages, even though I've been into Handcent and marked all threads as read.
How can I clear this notification?
The notifications you are probably seeing are from the stock sms app.
Do you still have the stock sms app installed?
If you do you will need to go in the message settings and turn of notifications.

That explained it - many thanks!
Trying to find an app for quick replying to sms messages. I installed sMs popular from the play store and it works except the messages still show unread. Also the contact pictures don't show up. Anyone know of a better app to use?

i really liked the one from cm10 tho
Sliding Messaging is great for anyone coming from AOSP ROMs with the expanding notifications, quick reply/mark read, and breathing status bar notifications.
I had to manually edit the MMS APN settings within the app to get it fully functional, but now I'm able to send/receive MMS + group MMS perfectly.
I use GoSMS Pro, but SMS Popup works great as a standalone app.
