Sms notification in the notification bar but no message - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title said, just recently, and for no discernable reason, I am not getting text messages. However, because I had turned it on in GoSMS (the sms app I am using), I can see the text come in, and actually read it as it scrolls in the notification bar. I can even go to the messing app and reply without any problem, at which point, I start seeing the messages from the other person. But that is the only time I see messages...when I am in the app.
Has anyone ever encountered anything like this? I deleted the stock messaging app at one time maybe a week ago (to try and avoid multiple sms notifications), but I have since extracted it from a backup and reinstalled it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Text messages disappeared! :(

Using Handcent... was looking at them... then went to the Home Screen, but next second, loaded Handcent again and they were ALL GONE. Hundreds of txts... what could have happened? Sent myself a text and received a new txt from someone and that's all that's in there now. Am using SMS Backup but have not had a problem with that so far

Some of my incoming messages don't appear in Thread View...

Hey guys & gals,
I am having an issue with most of my incoming SMS text messages not showing up in the Samsung Messaging App (or Handcent) Thread or Folders Views. They appear in the Notifications Bar just fine, but when I tap the Notification Bar and then tap on the Notification itself, it takes me to the Messaging App where I don't see the message at all. I see everything I sent out, but not what comes in (the majority of the time). Some incoming messages do show up in the threads, but most of them don't.
Anyone else having this issue? Any insight? Thanks!
Anyone???
No one has any input, ideas, suggestions, agreements or disagreements? Please!
yea i have had this happen on every device i have owned g1, nexus,hd2(with android) and vibrant. seems to happen every once in a while when it does i just delete the whole thread and they appear again. not sure why this occurs though

[Q] SMS duplications when using any themes

Has anyone else had an issue with their sms program showing multiple copies of every text message when applying themes over a custom rom? I am currently running Epic 2.5 and tried using the nextheme and the blackglass theme and got the issue with both. I even tried using handcent and got the same issue. I hope someone has a fix for this.

Click on the text messaging icon in your app drawer, then click on the menu key (the four windows button on the phone.) Choose Message Settings and remove the check marks from the Auto- retrieve and Notification options.

I'm having the same issue too... Epic 2.5, nextheme, and handcent sms... but in both handcent and the built in messaging app, I get 3 of the same text messages almost every time. I tried unchecking the auto retrieve and notification... no luck

go into your system/app folder and delete any duplicate messaging apps that are installed. That usually happens when the D2 message app and the plain android message app are both installed.

[Q] SMS/MMS questions

hey guys searched but did not find the answer....
I just got the Tmobile g2 and im new to android OS, had a TP2 before. How can I set the MMS message of a contact to stay on longer? When I view a picture message it just stays on for a couple seconds then goes right back to the text message. Is there any setting that I can make this longer?
Also is there a setting somewhere that can make it so that when I click the contact's picture, it will dial that contact automatically? I had this feature in my TP2 and would love to set it up like that.
Thanks in advance all
I would recommend downloading chompsms. I just did this for the first time last week and it blows away the standard android sms app.

Thanks for the reply, I was able to find the answers to both question. I downloaded the Handcent sms app and so far loving it, i'll give chompsms a try.
SMS notification bug
Hello, I wonder if some one here have same problem: Some times my HTC Desire Z with latest ROM doesn't want to notify me that sms is received, and I should randomly go in to Messages folder and find out there that there are some unread messages. It is not a Settings problem, because it is happening randomly. Let's assume every 10 or 15 message will be missed. Also, If i see that there are unread messages, i can read them from Messages folder, not from notification bar. And if I do so, notification in notification bar will not disappear, until i clear it manually... really strange. Thanks for solutions.

The length of each slide is decided when composing the MMS. If the sender sets it to 7 seconds (5 is default) then it will only be on for 7s. Save the attachment and you can view it for longer.

Factory restore after update helped to solve this problem
Desire Z
I have the same issue and it wasnt this way on the vibrant or the original MyTouch 3G. When someone sends an MMS, say a picture message, it shows up as a short 10 second video. I have tried saving as an attachment but didnt seem to allow me to do that.

SMS pop up incompatible?

Hey I was wondering if anyone knew of an app similar to SMS pop up (or Go SMS pop up notifications) that worked with stock SMS app. I want to keep stock so the lockscreen notification (that only appear for missed texts) still work, but with SMS Popup on the "close and mark as read" does not work and it also makes it so if I open a text thread it isn't marked as read - I have to click the exact message within the thread for it to be marked unread. Anyone else having this problem or know of a solution?
Thanks!
you'll probably just need to wait for the app to be updated. With the S3 being such a big phone I'm sure it'll be updated to work with it soon.
