Building AOKP/CM to Note 3 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have been playing with AOSP project (CM and AOKP Sources) for more than a year now but it was for Google Device such as the Nexus 7 and Nexus 4.
Now I wonder, how would I build did for the Galaxy Note 3 ?

[Discussion] Samsung seems to have forgotten us

I dont know why but I feel that samsung galaxy s2 international version/samsung note has been forgotten as now samsung has been focusing on Galaxy S3 and Note 2
Im waiting for a decent jellybean update to arrived to samsung and I find it strange that a company which has so much support does not want open source developers to even help out in anything.
this is the bugs in cyanogenmod 10 for galaxy s2 also trust me people would know that isn't project butter..

There's already many threads to discuss this, no need to start new ones.
maybe because ur phone is getting old
CM10 latest nightly works pretty good for me. Couldn't find any bugs myself.

yeah cm 10 has no bugs like ril crash or bad camera no tv out, bad performance on 3d games, hwcomposer. Damn till cm10 gets all this things i got a new nexus device.
and just forget that i ever got something that isnt directly from google

still no AOSP ROMs

Why arent there any AOSP ROMs yet? Most devices have a couple within the first month of release, yet the N3 doesn't.

I think it's a legit question and I've been worried about that as well. But I think the reason is solely because of knox. It will take some extra time to figure it out and once it's done there will be plenty of roms. I know for example that a guy is working to get his rom for Galaxy S II, S III and Note 2 to Note 3 as well. But it would just take some (like Christmas or something)

yeah the "most" devices you are talking about are ones that already run AOSP or are really close to AOSP, sammy phone susually start getting AOSP roms in about 2 to 3 month after release, or atleast that was the case with the s4.. i remember back in the s2 days when the first cm build showed up after about 6 or 7 month of release and even that was unofficial LOL
I just started a topic with pretty much the same discussion here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512263
Possible AOSP development discussion
I remember a photo of the n3 running CM from Steve whatever his name is (running CM) so there is some hope. Personally I'd like to see an OMNI room ROM before I get it (for the AOSP multi window). Was going for nexus but the battery life seems pathetic.

Just asking, is it relevant for Note 2? Since you have posted in Note 2 forum.

The most important component same as S3:
- CPU/GPU
- Audio chipset
- Camera
AndreiLux built his Note 2 kernel based on S3 kernel.
Apparently it's the same kernel version as it was in 4.1.2. Along with too few app and UI updates, I am now quite certain that the Note 2 official 4.3 won't have any new features compared to the leaks, which is quite disappointing.

Yes. Andrei's Note Perseus kernel is basically a direct port from its S3 counterpart, with different config and makefiles.

It's a shame that we don't see the 3.4 kernel coming like on the S4 and N3 but at least there will be updated binaries, which really help in AOSP development.

Android M details the end of Nexus device support

http://nr.news-republic.com/Web/ArticleWeb.aspx?regionid=1&articleid=42281832&source=tapatalk
This is so sad. It would be less sad if we had a device maintainer for CM. Hopefully someone will keep me with updates

N7 2013 had it's fun for 3 years. There are tons of developers that brought LP to abandoned by manufacturer devices. I am sure DirtyUnicorns, AICP, Euphoria, SlimRoms, BlissRoms and other communities and also other solo devs will bring new Android versions to our device for a couple more years, I am sure of that
As long as Qualcomm is still in business and delivers drivers for older devices too, we can still expect the latest updates. Ofc we might not get them as fast as we´re used too since newer Nexus devices might be the first to enjoy the lastest Android versions earlier.
But as long as there is a way to adapt the "old" hardware to the latest Android versions built from source, these devices will live for a few more years

Remember that these dates are not guaranteed to be accurate, and they are NOT Google official.
I'd say Nexus 7 2013 will get M.
One way or another Flo will see M. No doubt.
I believe grouper didn't get the L preview but still got lollipop.
i ain't worried

No, two years for the N7 2013.
Here is the nexus 7 2012 version of Android M.

I hope this can be ported to the Nexus 7 2013.

Question on Custom Roms

Always wanted a Nexus but availability issues has stopped me. The 6P will be the first Nexus to launch locally and I really want to get it. However, I've heard ParanoidAndroid(fav. custom rom) is no longer in the scene and are working with OnePlus now. What other customs roms are still operating other than Cyanogen? Which would be recommended for Nexus devices? I know PA was more or less exclusively on Nexus/OnePlus devices.
Go look in the nexus 6 section for an idea of what will be here

Nice, why didn't I think of that. I suppose CM is the most popular rom for N6?
Cm would be popular but most ROMs are going to layers instead of cm theme engine as it's native in marshmallow on nexus ... So a lot of ROMs like slim and pure nexus are very popular
6.0 also has native multi task
Pa still has builds but not much going on there as a lot of their big things never got merged

Check out Chroma. By far the best Nexus 6 rom and he has bought a 6p and will be updating the rom for it.
Nice rom from what I can tell. Any word if zeph will be updating it to 6P?
EDIT : Seems like he bought a 6P and will be developing for it. Excellent. Might have just confirmed by purchase.

Yea that is sad. Was my favourite custom rom for a long time though curiously, I've never owned a Nexus.

This is excellent news!
There are many nice roms in the Nexus6 section that will be over here. Like Croma, Pure, N6Shamu, etc...
What are the chances of getting Miui?

I made my purchase the first day in which preorders became available, it'll arrive by October 27-28. Marshmallow will be coming out this week, so I'll be working on Marshmallow when I have the time, Nexus 6 (2014) should start receiving builds and once the 6P arrives (I selected 1 day shipping), I'll start working on making the ROM compatible with N6P which shouldn't be too difficult.
Hope to see you there

The 6P will be the first Nexus we will be getting locally but I don't think it will be as fast as the US. I suspect builds will already be out before I get it. Looking forward!:good:
@sacredsoul the roms and development will be endless for 3 to 4 years maybe for the huawei 6p. Endless!
Questions about warranty: Will we lose our warranty status when we root it or flash roms? - SG member here too, waiting for Huawei Singapore to release it

Rom affect camera functionality Google intended?
I'm new to rooting, does installing a new ROM affect the camera functionality and quality the way google have wanted it from a nexus phone?

No, and its app is available on Google Play. Welcome to XDA!
Definitely looking forward to getting back to using custom roms after being unable to with my last 2 phones having a locked bootloader (so they were limited).
Really disappointed Android Pay won't work with Custom Roms, but holding out hope someone will find a workaround.
Chroma and BeansTown(purenexus) ROM would probably be the best top two for customization and stability. And it looks like Chroma ROM will be coming for N6P =]
