Root HTC One UK - One (M7) General

Im from the UK and own a sim free htc one running on payg giffgaff network. I want to root the device and also want to be able to put free cracked apps like tom-tom onto it...
I read guides and watch youtube videos and it states this is for at&t or verizon but these are american networks...why does the carrier matter when its the device you are rooting...
Hopefully someone can enlighten me as Ive been used to iPhone for so many years but htc one is far better, just want to be able to get the most out of it....

Coming on here openly saying you want to use warez isn't going to get you any friends on here...ever thought about paying for an app?

Thread closed.
Talking about getting paid apps for free on XDA is considered warez and not allowed.

Nexus S - Without Contract

Now that a lot of you'll guys have got the phone WITHOUT contract, does the device still have anything to do with T-Mobile ... any screens, apps or anything that links the phone to T???
I'm outside the US and wanted to try to order one online on day one, but all options on the bestbuy site had a T-mobile written within brackets on its side.
Could some one tell me they are different or all the same?
And can someone that ordered it from outside the US guide me how they got it?
Thanks
Sorry for bumping, but can anyone help??? Really would like to have one.
Absolutely nothing at all. You'll get an inactive T-Mobile SIM in the box (EDIT: this is probably just if you buy it from the US), but the phone itself has no ties to T-Mobile.

People have reported that in the App Market, there is a a T-Mobile tab. Others have reported that once you remove the SIM card, the tab turns into 'Downloads.' That's about all I've read.
Other than preset settings for T-Mobile, I don't see any branding applications on the phone. I even have to download the branding applications from market.
The phone is SIM unlocked.
Hey thanks! So, that's one less thing to worry about.

Play r800a vs r800at - might have found a difference

http://goo.gl/GSW3l
Logically speaking, the a would be the unlockable one, and the at, the AT&T locked-to-kingdom-come-and-then-some one.
Sorry if this was already posted.
R800a will be SIM/Network locked to Rogers and will likely have a Rogers boot screen. Unlocking companies say they can unlock it for use on AT&T though it may need the APN settings configured correctly to use 3G on AT&T.
Also, R800at will probably take forever to be officially released
So we're basically f'd with the bootloader then?
There isn't a variant model number for the off-contract full price option for Rogers (which could have been a wildcard for unlocking) so I guarantee all North American Xperia Plays will be SIM locked to their respective carriers and therefore not eligible for the official bootloader unlock (there may be other ways but I don't know). It makes no sense for them to do otherwise since the carriers are using contracts to subsidize the phone to make more money in the long run. It does make sense for the international model (R800i) to be SIM unlocked in key markets since it covers most of the rest of the world other than North America and that is a much bigger market with many variables.
Somebody will have to ultimately connect to a Rogers Xperia Play R800a model and see if fastboot will run on it since the "at" model won't be available anytime soon. At least not before the CDMA Verizon model which has yet to even be announced. I just wouldn't be surprised if it won't run...

I have a AT&T Xperia Play R800a
I tried to contact Engadget to show off some pictures of the AT&T boot and bloatware but they never responded yet to my e-mail.
I traded my iphone 4 16GB + Cash on top and met up with a guy in Fremont CA earlier today and he was willing to take my offer since he was a big Apple Fan. He already owned a Droid X from Verizon and Apple Ipad and had no use for it. At first I thought it was a R800i UK model but after seeing the phone description in the settings I was shocked!
If any you guys want some information about the phone i'll be happy to snap some photos of it.

I'm a little confused? So you have a R800a with AT&T boot and bloatware that's not a R800at? Or did I misread that? In any case, I would be interested in seeing what they did to it.
Also, I suspect that it's locked to prevent the install of 3rd party apps. If so, have you been able to use ADB to install apps? I know Sony Ericsson has a program with USB drivers for the X10, but I don't know if it'll work with the Play or not.

Nope I have an authentic AT&T R800at model. I made another thread with pictures linked to my photobucket account. I don't have enough posts to post pictures directly at the moment. I didn't believe it myself when the guy showed me the phone. There are lots of scammers on craigslist with the iphone etc. where people are buying "dummy phones" and packaging them like they are legit.
He didn't seem to want to tell me where he got it but he was dressed pretty professional so maybe he knows somebody that works with AT&T? I'm just scared to update the software on the phone in fear it might lockup or something. I'll post more pictures later when I get off work.
If there is anything else you wanted to see, please feel free to ask. I'm still new to the android scene but i'm quickly learning. I have a Galaxy Tab and a 3G Vibrant with the awesome FFC mod I learned from this site. I finally joined the darkside and i'm enjoying this phone. If I didn't come up on this find I might be one of those Fanboys anxiously waiting for a Iphone5 with probably barely any new features to justify it being cool anymore.
This is what I'll upload later
More better pictures of the homescreen icons etc.

Clone sim, two phones one line, but only one active at once.

Hey, so I'm a sales rep for a large mobility provider in canada. I have a Nexus 4, but because we do not carry this phone, I'm not allowed to demo the phone in store (duh), and requires me to have one of our carried phones active during selling hours.
I don't really want to have to swap my simcard twice every day I work, and was wondering if there was any guides or info on cloning a Version 3 sim. Ideally, I'd like to shut down my Nexus 4 at work and then turn on another phone (probably will use my old HTC One S during selling hours), go about my day, and then after work shut down the One S and boot up the ol' Nexus 4.
Some people might say I can just use the One S in airplane mode and use wifi, but then I miss out on texts and stuff (allowed to text/go online during work hours if no one else is in the store). And I can't really have my nexus 4 on the sales floor.
I know that my company probably would can me if they found out I cloned a sim, but the way I see it is if I never have them both online at the same time, it's exactly the same as me just switching the single sim between phones.
If that doesn't work/isnt currently possible (i've googled a lot, haven't found many things that look like theyd even have a 10% chance of working), i was considering changing my Nexus 4 IMEI to my HTC One S, so on the account level it looks like I'm using my HTC One S, and I'd talk to my boss and see if that is enough and I can just use my Nexus 4 on the floor when no one is around. Is that possible? Would that gimp my Nexus from receiving updates? (it's currently stock rooted, if that helps.)
I understand these questions are sort of shady, but I am by no means using them for shady purposes, and I can provide a paystub to verify my employment if that would help, or if someone wanted to just PM me info on this, i would be greatful and send some money your way for a beer (paypal).
If any other workarounds exist, feel free to let me know!
You're right. SIM and IMEI mods discussions are prohibited at XDA, but you should have no difficulty finding other info sources. I always recommend the Sysmocom site, as the money goes back into research. They are some of the guys behind OsmocomBB etc... Good luck.
Thanks! I'll look into that.

Will this new root help me unlock my weird t-mobile GS7 edge?

Hey guys,
i got this legit t-mo gs7e which came for free through this promotional agency. it is clearly branded as t-mobile and only works with t-mobile US sim card, but t-mo hotline keeps saying it is not a t-mobile phone. longer description in this thread which i accidentally posted in the GS7normal section: (i asked for the thread to be moved over here to avoid double post but nothing happened)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s7/help/unlockable-t-mobile-s7-edge-t3572986
will this new root help me making any use of this phone or do i have to just buy a new one? i been on the hotlines for about 3 weeks now and about to give up and just try to sell it and buy something else, so you people are really my last resort.
also willing to tip if someone can guide me through the process.
definately a legit, not-blocked, paid-off phone, just nobody can remove the sim-lock and i need to use it both in foreign countries and on diff networks in the US.
thanks in advance,
b

thanks, i read through this before, but 1) the thread is actually mad old and not for nougat firmware and 2) it seems like nobody was able to actually remove the sim-lock with this, just remove the bloatware etc.

I don't think there is any hack or anything to sim unlock the phone. I believe it hinges on getting your imei into the tmo database, or using a paid service. Check this post and maybe try and contact that TMobile rep: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-v10/general/unlocking-sim-tmobile-t3241032/post65795953
It will not help you unlock the sim lock.
I have been watching your comments since your firdt post about yiur phone and i hate to say it but i think you are going to have to use a pay service.

thanks guys, pretty sure a paid service won't be able to unlock it, that thread yrrch mentioned also has a couple people in it w similar phones where the paid ones didn't help.. but i'll def try call that higher level t-mo rep that is mentioned in there. it is one of these "partner purchase" programs i believe.
edit: matter of fact i reached out to unlockradar.com couple days ago, they can't unlock it either.

Yeah, I guess a paid service requires that your phone be registered in the carrier's database. Then if the unlock app doesn't work, you could choose to pay. So hopefully you can reach that woman and have her help! Good luck and keep us posted
OK, so I have a question. I'm Trying to move from t-mobile to Verizon but I'm trying to keep my same phone. So no matter what I do im better off getting a new phone?
To unlock that device you'll need to find a store that has the equipment to do it. There are boxes out there that unlock immediately through a connected cable.

Are you sure of this statement ? I've read that T-Mobile App SIM lock is impossible to hack.

The models that have unlock device apps can only be unlocked (Tmobile metropcs possibly others?) will have to be unlocked thru the app (AFAIK) other models (certain models, which vary accordingly) can be unlocked instantly thru cable.
Now, is it "impossible to hack"? I dunno? I don't think anything is impossible to hack.... (don't read into that, I'm not saying it's been done, I'm merely making a statement that's all)
Sent from my Rooted Galaxy S7 EDGE on Android 7.0 Nougat, here's the instructions how to do it!
I believe the device was purchased from Samsung.com and only those devices are not recognized by T-Mobile unlock app.. I heard that you've to call T-Mobile business support instead of technical support for this issue.. I had the same wth an S7 and was discussing in S7 forums

Unlocking T-Mobile locked phones, bought directly from Samsung

Hello,
I recently saw the (samsung.com) Buy One Get One (/us/mobile/phones/t-mobile-free-galaxy-s8-promotion) deal on the Samsung S8. I am really interested. The deal applies on buying the T-Mobile variants directly from samsung.com. (Not through T-Mobile)
However, I am from India, and am currently travelling to the US. I would like to buy both the phones and get them unlocked later so that I can use them back in India. I do not mind buying/activating a new T-Mobile line on one of the phones as long as I can SIM unlock the phone later for use with other SIMs. From what I read, T-Mobile does not have these phones registered in their database and it is difficult to get them to unlock the phone for me. What usually ends up happening is that Samsung people redirect to T-Mobile, who in turn redirect back to Samsung. Has anybody had any success?
Here are a couple of reddit threads dealing with the same matter (can't post links yet, sorry) :
/r/tmobile/comments/68w6ow/samsungcom_tmobile_s8_sim_unlock/
/r/tmobile/comments/6crs6v/unlocking_samsung_galaxy_purchased_from_samsungcom/
/r/GalaxyS8/comments/67a942/how_to_get_sim_unlock_code_for_phones_purchased/
Please let me know if this is possible, and how it can be done.
I have T-mo phone bought and paid in full direct from Samsung and I can confirm this nonsense, which should be totally illegal: T-mo has no record of my phone's IMEI and Samsung can't unlock the phone without T-mo. You could try paid services, but I have no idea how well and if they even work. You could also wait for root and probably unlock then, but it's risky. So far I have not been able to resolve this issue.

That's sad to hear. I would have loved to get the phone using this offer. From what I gathered from the reddit threads, you basically have to grind down on customer support (either Samsung or T-Mobile) to get it unlocked from their side.
