Correct me if I am wrong, but my bootloader on my GS4(i337m) is unlocked, would that not mean I could fully convert my GS4 into a GPE i9505G?
If you mean flash a GPE Rom then yes. You have the Canadian Variant if I'm not mistaken, you would need to flash the specific kernel and modem.

I do have the Canadian variant, which is identical to the i9505/i9505G. I have had a stock GPE ROM on my device for months now, but I did not have to flash a specific kernel or modem.
I'm asking if I could flash the Odin files from a i9505G on my phone, since the hardware is identical and my bootloader is unlocked, would that not fully convert my device to a GPE?

It can't be that easy or they wouldn't make the 9505g. Partitions are probably a bit different. You could try it but it'll probably brick your phone. I wouldn't do it

I know the partitions are diffetent , that's the difference between the GPE and the Touchwiz versions. The pit file in Odin should theoretically flash the partition of the GPE on my phone since the bootloader is unlocked and the hardware is the same, right?
I'm only wondering this because I would like to be able to use the 12GB that is available on the GPE as opposed to the 9GB on the GPE roms.

So did you flash it then??? I'm to chicken to do it. I know about the partition part .
I flashed almost every stock rom that has unlocked bootloader and i337m still running great and better . But never tried 9505g stock rom.

i337m does NOT need a loki kernel, it is easy to remember, if you have a locked bootloader you need loki, it is simple as that.

Mint jelly works. Just flash a I377m kernel before rebooting. You can also check out roms for 9505 , long as you flash the proper kernel before rebooting.

If you flash the Platform + CSC file from the Odin firmware, yes.
But everyone must stay stock (kernel, recovery etc)

How does this differ from say flashing the stock rom zip and a stock recovery? That way, you'd be on the stock odexed rom, with the stock kernel and the default CSC. No hassling with Odin.
So does that mean we will be able to get the OTA Updates and have a 100% GE S4?
Because my Father would really like the Google Edition S4 but he already got the Standard one and he doesn't know ANYTHING about flashing but if it would be possible to flash he could get the OTA Updates.

OTA will brick your phone atm because the bootloader can't be flashed from the GE on the 9505
so installing the android 4.2.2 google edition (not 4.3 because it is not possible with odin) you still wont receive OTA updates?

Usually ota updates doesn't flash bootloader unless there's a bootloader update ofc. So you can get updates but it's recommended to not do ota updates for your phone. Specially not when it can brick your device but it's you're choice if you want to
wrapping my head around GE
Sorry for the noobness;
I have an i9505; ever since it was announced, I was looking forward to flashing my i9505 into a GE.
Some initial roms have appeared. I just wanted to better understand some of the terms thrown around to make an informed decision;
The ROM seems to be pretty similar between all those who have thrown their hat into the ring: jamal2367, janjan, samuel2607, Hazanwar, m3dd0g, and maybe a few others. Is there any major difference between these ROMs? Q: Should all these ROMs be identical? They all have the same origin, and all are trying to go for the pure/vanilla GE experience
I think each of the ROM modders are using different kernels, or kernels slightly modified. Again; what is the official kernel for GE? is the "stock kernel" for GE the same "stock kernel" for all S4 i9505? My device is Model number SGH-I337M; Kernel v3.4.0-518267; is this the GE kernel? I know kernels can be tweaked to overclock or undervolt a phone, getting performance or better battery, respectively. I'm trying to turn my i9505 into a GE clone. Which kernel should I be looking for?
Some people have mentioned CSC. This is where I'm completely lost. From what I understand, CSC is the way phone manufacturers classify and differentiate phones model for specific countries and specific carriers. Is this correct?
Either way; how does CSC help or hurt my goal of emulating fully a GE phone? Would I need to change the currrent CSC in my phone to a second CSC? What would that accomplish?
also; someone has mentioned recovery. Should I interpret that as the bootloader? are these things related, or the actual same thing referred differently? how does the bootloader (and/or) recovery help me clone a i9595GE?
I have a question. Why are there many people working on GE Rom, and there's no actualy GE firmware (without bugs) like TW firmwares to be flashed on the phone?

there are actually pretty stable (at least the 4.2 one) however why they work on it its mostly due to its easier when you get all the libraries for the device to something they've waited for. pure AOSP can be good if you wouldn't miss the features s4 gives.

I would like to install Google Edition stock rom on my S4 i9505, it is locked to O2-UK, would it be possible to do so without being factory unlocked.
Thanks
No
First of all, you cannot simply install a GE ROM on a regular i9505, because the bootloader and the partitions are different. Also, ODIN will always recognize your phone as an i9505, so you cannot install GE ROMs this way.
What you can do is flash CWM and use a Custom ROM which is based on the GE ROM. But this is not exactly the same as a stock GE ROM. It comes close, though, and usually is 'better' anyways due to 3way reboot, root etc.

What does this mean? Is your bootloader locked? In this case you can only install ROMs via ODIN AFAIK, unless someone already has hacked the bootloader so that you can install CWM.
Edit: If your bootloader is locked you can only install stock ROMs of course, or some stock-based ROMs which don't touch the bootloader or contain an official bootloader update.

Start reading the forums before you start flashing. These are basic questions. Read, learn and prevent your phone from becoming a paperweight.
I can tell you all the steps you need to take, but then you still don't know what you are doing.

The leak won't work for you because it's a full ODIN package. It's signed for I337 and not the I337M, and is not in a flashable zip form. Even if you could use it, you'd have a locked bootloader afterwards and never have recovery again. You'll have to use some other 4.4.2 ROM, maybe check the i9505 development section for a recovery flashable one.

Thx so much. It's clearer now for me; it is indeed a tar file signed for I337 I was wrongly thinking that since I337M and I337 both share the same hardware rom compatibility might be possible, but I guess the AT&T factor plays the game otherwise. I'll check what's cooking in i9505 thread.
So, If I understand you correctly, an i9505 flashable zip, like wamalite for example, would work for i337m, is that so?

Yes. Any ROM in a flashable zip for any variant of the S4 except the i9500 (exynos model) will work on your device. I9505 are the easiest to get working, some other variant ROMs may need tweaking to work well. There's a thread about running other carrier ROMs in the general section.

I don't know much about how knox affects custom recovery or if you can flash without tripping it. I know for sure it won't stop anything but would just simply void warranty. If you flash an I9505 ROM then because of the build.prop it will tell you it's an I9505, but it's still an I337M, you can't like use the i9505 ODIN files or anything just because you have an i9505 rom.

Hello,
I have an AT&T S4 that I want to run on Tmobile. It was running Android 4.3/MF3 baseband so I was able to install safestrap and root it. I am running the stock rooted ROM (with SIM unlock via region lock away) and the QCN file update to get 4G LTE/HSPA and 3G.
I would like to install a custom ROM but each time I do I get a bootloop. I am installing via safestrap in a slot I created NOT the stock rom slot. But as I said each time I try to boot I get a boot loop and have to return to the stock rooted rom via the stock rom slot. I got wicked rom to load but Wifi didn't work.
Am I able to install tmobile ROMS on this device (I want to be able to tether)? How do I do that? Which kernel do I use, the ATT or tmobile kernel? Do I install the ROM in the stock slot or the safestrap virtual slot?
I don't want to wind up with a device I cannot use on tmobile. Also, my computer does not see the S4 any longer. It sees my Note 3 fine but when I plug in the S4 it doesn't show as a device.
Which custom rom were you attempting to install? Was it a 4.2.2 touchwiz rom?

If your build number is MK2, you're on 4.3. You need Safestrap 3.71, and you can only run other 4.3 Touchwiz ROMs. Kernel doesn't matter because Safestrap does not flash kernels. You should be fine flashing any TMobile 4.3 TW ROM.
