If you flash the Platform + CSC file from the Odin firmware, yes.
But everyone must stay stock (kernel, recovery etc)

Mate, you're on XDA, why bother with OTA's? ^^

so: if google plans rollout to GE edition phone for official release 4.3 of KLP you will receive it also on your standard I9505?
i dont get why this is? thats why there are nexus phone but other phones that you flash like this wont get the ota like a nexus?

How does this differ from say flashing the stock rom zip and a stock recovery? That way, you'd be on the stock odexed rom, with the stock kernel and the default CSC. No hassling with Odin.
So does that mean we will be able to get the OTA Updates and have a 100% GE S4?
Because my Father would really like the Google Edition S4 but he already got the Standard one and he doesn't know ANYTHING about flashing but if it would be possible to flash he could get the OTA Updates.

OTA will brick your phone atm because the bootloader can't be flashed from the GE on the 9505
so installing the android 4.2.2 google edition (not 4.3 because it is not possible with odin) you still wont receive OTA updates?

Usually ota updates doesn't flash bootloader unless there's a bootloader update ofc. So you can get updates but it's recommended to not do ota updates for your phone. Specially not when it can brick your device but it's you're choice if you want to
wrapping my head around GE
Sorry for the noobness;
I have an i9505; ever since it was announced, I was looking forward to flashing my i9505 into a GE.
Some initial roms have appeared. I just wanted to better understand some of the terms thrown around to make an informed decision;
The ROM seems to be pretty similar between all those who have thrown their hat into the ring: jamal2367, janjan, samuel2607, Hazanwar, m3dd0g, and maybe a few others. Is there any major difference between these ROMs? Q: Should all these ROMs be identical? They all have the same origin, and all are trying to go for the pure/vanilla GE experience
I think each of the ROM modders are using different kernels, or kernels slightly modified. Again; what is the official kernel for GE? is the "stock kernel" for GE the same "stock kernel" for all S4 i9505? My device is Model number SGH-I337M; Kernel v3.4.0-518267; is this the GE kernel? I know kernels can be tweaked to overclock or undervolt a phone, getting performance or better battery, respectively. I'm trying to turn my i9505 into a GE clone. Which kernel should I be looking for?
Some people have mentioned CSC. This is where I'm completely lost. From what I understand, CSC is the way phone manufacturers classify and differentiate phones model for specific countries and specific carriers. Is this correct?
Either way; how does CSC help or hurt my goal of emulating fully a GE phone? Would I need to change the currrent CSC in my phone to a second CSC? What would that accomplish?
also; someone has mentioned recovery. Should I interpret that as the bootloader? are these things related, or the actual same thing referred differently? how does the bootloader (and/or) recovery help me clone a i9595GE?
I have a question. Why are there many people working on GE Rom, and there's no actualy GE firmware (without bugs) like TW firmwares to be flashed on the phone?

there are actually pretty stable (at least the 4.2 one) however why they work on it its mostly due to its easier when you get all the libraries for the device to something they've waited for. pure AOSP can be good if you wouldn't miss the features s4 gives.

If you look here you'll find many ROMs that claim to deliver the "nexus" experience. I haven't found one that could be flashed via Odin, however. You can root your phone and create a full backup of your ROM, and then install CWM or any other recovery manager to flash the one of the nexus-experience ROMs. You can always go back to the Samsung ROMs if you don't like them.

Thanks. I found my answer in that thread. It is not safe to accept OTAs on i9505 because of the different bootloader/radio that i9505GE have.

Is it possible to modify a carrier OTA (lets say change the stock kernel with custom) before pushing it to your device via TWRP recovery??
(reason, i hear the Knox bootloader cannot be removed in TW 4.3 update because the kernel depends on it. And id like to flash the OTA instead of full odin image to avoid full wipe and re-installation)
Any help appreciated, and thanks in advance
Anyone? Bump

I believe it is not possible to change the direct OTA zip as it's not in the same format as usual ROM zips. If you have a real custom recovery and exploit, you'll have to wait for a modified update to install 4.3, or run a custom 4.3 ROM from the development section or check the other S4 forums (i9505 may have one).

Well how do I modify the update?? Not interested in custom roms really since they get rid of like all Samsung stuff, which is what Galaxy S4 is all about. (I can't stand pure nexus experience - so dull and boring)

Like I said, I don't believe it is possible. There are plenty of ROMS that do keep the Samsung stuff, such as StockUp and other ROMS in the i9505 section.

um, ok. Didnt really get what you meant by wait for modified update, or run custom 4.3 ROM which i believe is essentially same thing unless you mean someone takes the original mk6 odin image and modifies it. But us Canadians don't need an exploit, since carriers don't lock bootloaders

sorry if this is an old question.
well im using an sgh i337 at&t,
im in 4.2.2 MF3, it's rooted an using safestrap
my problem is that whenever i try to flash a 4.3 TW rom
(Goldeneye) in another rom slot, it just seems its not working, is not even booting. i also tried flashing an aosp based room. p.a.c or dirty unicorn rooms, same result.
so i just saw a post saying at&t has 4.3 since november 13, i would like to know how to get it. i mean, maybe im doing something wrong with safestrap. what if i try ota upgrading and it briks my phone? i dont even know if 4.3 worths loosing my root, which i dont know if i could achieve to use in 4.3
so resumeing my questions are.
am i missunderstanding safestrap flashing procedures?
is there a root for 4.3?
how can i get 4.3 for my phone? (safestrap room, odin upgrade, ota upgrade)
is there a custom recovery for 4.3?
any help please?
AT&T pulled the 4.3 update to smooth out some "issues." ETA for the re-released update is anyone's guess but will probably happen "soon."
You can only use TouchWiz-based 4.2.2 ROMs on MF3 with Safestrap.
I'd never flash anything more recent than MF3 if you have any desire to ever run custom ROMs or unlock the bootloader. This is pretty much the rule of thumb with any new release with a locked bootloader.
It's a safe assumption each new release from AT&T will only lock this phone down *more.* Unless Samsung comes up with an official bootloader unlock process similar to HTC, it will only get harder to customize the phone after an upgrade.

What is the difference between devices hltetmo and hltecan? I have a hltecan. Will we need CyanogenMod compiled for hltecan? I notice that recoveries have different versions for both devices. Also I am wondering about downgrading for 4.4 (when it comes) to 4.3. Is there a surefire way to upgrade and downgrade between 4.4 TW 4.4 CM and 4.3TW? I would not mind voiding my Knox counter. I played around a bit earlier... The only firmware you can upgrade to 4.4.2 and downgrade back to 4.3 is the mexican telco one for the n900w8, however I had some issues but will play some more tomorrow when I get time. As for KNOX, it's just one of them things we have to live with I'm afraid..
EDIT: I'm gonna mess with the bootloader and see, doubt it can be matched/mixed to work with the N9005 but what's the harm in trying.

The harm in trying is a hardbrick.
Well yes there is that, however I am not overly fussed about it, as most HB's can be revived. I am aware of all the risks, so will be my fault 100% if I brick myself.

Sorry. Can't understand exactly. What exactly means what versions you can run with a new bootloader?
MJ7 is the bootloader that powers CM currently. You need a bootloader to be able to boot into the operating system. Like a key into the phone.
If you upgrade your bootloader to a newer version aka NA6 it locks the phone. Therefore anything that runs lower than NA6 aka MJ7 won't work.
Think of it like, you broke your door, you got a new door and tried to use the old key. It no long works.

hi, can you elaborate?
i always thought samsung doesn't let you downgrade to an older bootloader. but if you install CM (not samsung official updates) the bootloader doesn't get updated so you can downgrade in the future.
unless you upgrade to 4.4.2 official samsung ROM and update the bootloader, then you'll never be able to downgrade again?

No, if you want to try out kitkat i recommend you to use a cyanogenmod based 4.4 like probam, it doesn't update your bootloader and you can just downgrade back to jellybean

Hi guys,
I would like to flash my AT&T galaxy s4 with an European stock Rom (preferably french). Until now, I didn't succeeded.
My phone is rooted.
I have attached a screenshot of my phone details.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Looks like you still have the MDL firmware which is a good thing. Do NOT update your phones firmware or you won't be able to flash certain things. Just get root with MotoChopper and Loki in its thread. Then you can flash a ROM that will have the French language installed or can be installed.
OK now to hopefully answer your question I would suggest something like ShoStock-i 7.0 as it is based off International firmware KitKat 4.4.2 which will bring you to one of the newest firmwares and not lock down your bootloader further. It may have the French language installed. I will check to see.
Otherwise you would need to find some dev that could port a French based firmware to the i337 for you. But whatever you do, DO NOT flash any STOCK Firmwares to get the updated KitKat firmware. You would be sorry you did.

Thanks RockRatt for your answer and advises. I ll have a look on this rom. My phone is already rooted and i have flashed tge loki too.
So this means that it isn't possible to install a clean stock rom in order to transform my at&t into an international model. I tought it could be possible since they apparently share the same hardware.

Unfortunately no, the bootloader is locked (even with the Loki bypass). Where the i9505 bootloader was not locked.
If you were to flash a stock French firmware (it would most likely fail to flash at all) it could brick your phone.
Since we have locked bootloaders it does limit some things, but not much since you have the Loki bypass and can use real recoveries to flash almost anything. Good luck
