[Q] Charger plug difference - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a Galaxy Note 3 in white colour on Tuesday and found that the charger plug is identical to the S3 and S4. However my dad bought a Black version today and he received a completely different charger. Just wondering if anyone else has the new plug with the white version of the Note 3?

I got the one that looks like the Galaxy S3 and S4 plug. I think it's because I bought the white version of the note 3. Had problems in the past with the plug not charging sometimes.

(Q) Using Samsung Galaxy S2 charger with the Nexus 4?

Is it safe to use the charger from the Samsung Galaxy S2 with my Nexus 4? It fits perfectly. Will it deplete the batteries health or anything? Thanks!

That's the whole point of making a standard charger. Of course it's safe, any micro USB charger is safe.
I'm charging my Sony Ericsson with Samsung charger in one room, and Nexus 7 charger in other room, and my SE charger is in my backpack to carry around.
It's safe and it's better you use the Samsung one rather than stock nexus 4, since it has deep problems! (red light of death)
I've used the charger of my Samsung Galaxy S2 a couple of times. Works fine.
So do other chargers, like my old Nokia 1.2A charger. And charging via Qi (Philips pad) and USB port of a PC works fine too.
Just make sure you use good quality chargers, and not fakes.
And yes sometimes it's hard to differentiate between the two...
I'm sure any micro usb charger is fine. I use different chargers all the time. If it fits, it'll charge.

The charger has nothing to do with causing the "red light of death".

If you'll look through Q&A there are several threads about it. People panic and create them instead of looking for others with the same problem. The phone shuts off and gives a blinking red led. Most of the time it's fixable

S3 Chargers work on S4? What about docking station?

Just went from an S3 to S4 and have a bunch of leftover accessories. Is it safe to charge the S4 with the S3 cables and docking station? I have the EZOPower docking station and it only seemed to connect okay, but not perfect. Not sure if it will fit better with a case.
Just want to make sure there is no harm in using the S3 cables on the S4, i.e. is the S4 and S3 USB port identical?

If you can plug it in then yes, shouldn't be a problem. Just check the output and voltage of the 2 chargers is the same (e.g. 5V 1A). As for the docking station, my S4 hasn't arrived yet and I have seen an S3 briefly but I would think that you probably need to get some kind of adapter or chop it a bit, hope this helps

Using S3 cable for S4 is OK but not the charger. Cause S3 charger is 5V-1A when S4 charger is 5V-2A. Using S3 charger for your S4 will take much more time to fill the battery, that's all, no harm. But never use S4 charger for S3, it will cause problem to S3 battery, touchscreen...
The same for docking station, it will be ok if you use S4 charger for that dock

I don't know what you mean. I've used my father S3 cable few times and it completely fit on my S4, I also used cables from Galaxy Nexus and even Palm Pre, no problem
Agree with this. S3 charger on s4 is fine but slow. The other way round will damage the phone.

Yes, it fits, but look at the two side by side and you will see one is clearly bigger than the other.

S3 Mini charger for nexus 4 will do and RLOD

I just saw some videos and people having some kinda RLOD "Red light of dead" bug in their phone, I'm guessing what are chances I can get that and how to prevent having that?
Also I ordered my new nexus 4 via ebay, and since it came from America to Europe, charger doesnt fit in my power supply aka wall so I'm using S3 Mini charger, will that work?

[Q] Charging the I9505

Hello there
I wanted to ask you people a question about charging the I9505.
I have the official white charger that comes with the device in its box and I have another chargers from other Samsung phones such as Galaxy S3 and some old charger which is one part the cable and the charger (not usb+charger like the charger of S4) of some old Samsung device which I don't have it anymore.
My question is can I charge the S4 with any Samsung charger or should I use only and ONLY the official charger which comes with the S4?
Thanks

Note 4 broken by electrical surge?

Hi, after me and my brother took our Note 4's EUROPEAN MODEL N910F to pakistan the note 4 kept switching itself off. When we got back to the UK the note 4 still kept switching itself off. They were both under warranty and 'GeekSquad' from Carphone Warehouse are certified by Samsung and after repairing it they said they replaced the screen???? But I can't seem to imagine that the screen caused the Note 4's to keep switching themselves off randomly.
I know that in pakistan it is DC - Direct Current whereas in the UK AC - Alternating Current is used. Also in pakistan we left our phones in the socket charging and when the electricity went and the generator was turned on, the phones were still plugged into the wall charger. Could this have caused an electrical surge and broke something inside the phone?? My note 4 was just about 6 months old and my brothers was 9 months old.

Yes that is a likely cause and that's why you should plug your electronics in a anti-surge socket when you travel abroad, using a transformer is useful because of the difference in current transfer in countries.

Okay thanks! I just bought the note 5
What if I took a portable charger with me and charged the portable charger (without anti-surge socket) and then charged my phone from the portable charger? Would that work and would that prevent it happening again?

I just saw the Aukey Turbo Charger (compatible with note 5 fast charge/quick charge 2.0). It says on amazon that it also has surge protection built in. So this should protect my device?

If it states that it has anti-surge then it should, but I can't take responsibility. :good:
