S3 Chargers work on S4? What about docking station? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just went from an S3 to S4 and have a bunch of leftover accessories. Is it safe to charge the S4 with the S3 cables and docking station? I have the EZOPower docking station and it only seemed to connect okay, but not perfect. Not sure if it will fit better with a case.
Just want to make sure there is no harm in using the S3 cables on the S4, i.e. is the S4 and S3 USB port identical?

If you can plug it in then yes, shouldn't be a problem. Just check the output and voltage of the 2 chargers is the same (e.g. 5V 1A). As for the docking station, my S4 hasn't arrived yet and I have seen an S3 briefly but I would think that you probably need to get some kind of adapter or chop it a bit, hope this helps

Using S3 cable for S4 is OK but not the charger. Cause S3 charger is 5V-1A when S4 charger is 5V-2A. Using S3 charger for your S4 will take much more time to fill the battery, that's all, no harm. But never use S4 charger for S3, it will cause problem to S3 battery, touchscreen...
The same for docking station, it will be ok if you use S4 charger for that dock

I don't know what you mean. I've used my father S3 cable few times and it completely fit on my S4, I also used cables from Galaxy Nexus and even Palm Pre, no problem

Agree with this. S3 charger on s4 is fine but slow. The other way round will damage the phone.

Yes, it fits, but look at the two side by side and you will see one is clearly bigger than the other.

Note charger

I bough a european note and it came with a UK cheap ****ty charger in a separate bag.
Theres a genuine S2 samsung one on ebay for £6. Question is will this charge any quicker as the shiity one I got with the note takes 3-4 hours to charge the note.
How long should it take?
Thanks
whats the output of the "****ty" one?
i believe a regular GS2 is 800mah ... you wanna speed up your charge time, get a galaxy tab charger- 2A lol
That ****ty one is only 500mA, thats the problem! Cheers
The official Samsung charger for the Note has 1A output. The cheap ones work fine, but will take longer obviously (like twice as long) to charger.
the micro usb wire that came with my note is a much better fit than almost any other one i have. shouldnt they all be the same? also where can i buy a spare?
thanks

(Q) Using Samsung Galaxy S2 charger with the Nexus 4?

Is it safe to use the charger from the Samsung Galaxy S2 with my Nexus 4? It fits perfectly. Will it deplete the batteries health or anything? Thanks!

That's the whole point of making a standard charger. Of course it's safe, any micro USB charger is safe.
I'm charging my Sony Ericsson with Samsung charger in one room, and Nexus 7 charger in other room, and my SE charger is in my backpack to carry around.
It's safe and it's better you use the Samsung one rather than stock nexus 4, since it has deep problems! (red light of death)
I've used the charger of my Samsung Galaxy S2 a couple of times. Works fine.
So do other chargers, like my old Nokia 1.2A charger. And charging via Qi (Philips pad) and USB port of a PC works fine too.
Just make sure you use good quality chargers, and not fakes.
And yes sometimes it's hard to differentiate between the two...
I'm sure any micro usb charger is fine. I use different chargers all the time. If it fits, it'll charge.

The charger has nothing to do with causing the "red light of death".

If you'll look through Q&A there are several threads about it. People panic and create them instead of looking for others with the same problem. The phone shuts off and gives a blinking red led. Most of the time it's fixable

Where can I get an oem s4 cable?

I think my gf stepped on mine and it doesn't have a great connection, while my old s3 cable fits snuggly but takes 3 times as long to charge. This is all I found, do you guys know where I can get a tried and true oem charging cable for the s4?

If you want a original samsung one:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/data-cables
You can easily get one in a trustworthy hardware store.
They are just in the Samsung's section.
The ones from Samsung looks like the original Galaxy S cables

[Q] Charging the I9505

Hello there
I wanted to ask you people a question about charging the I9505.
I have the official white charger that comes with the device in its box and I have another chargers from other Samsung phones such as Galaxy S3 and some old charger which is one part the cable and the charger (not usb+charger like the charger of S4) of some old Samsung device which I don't have it anymore.
My question is can I charge the S4 with any Samsung charger or should I use only and ONLY the official charger which comes with the S4?
Thanks

Yes you can charge your phone with any Samsung charger but in some cases your battery will be swollen... So is your choice
I use iPhone charger to charge mine and no problems at all

Stock charging cable only giving out 300-420 amp

Does anyone have the same problem? I notice that it only has 4 pins, dunno if its supposed to have 4 or 5, and to make my situation even worse 2 of them seem to be faulty, they are almost flat.

It's sadly thinking that the problem is the phone (This doesn't happen with my other phone), I was to buy a new cable because the same issue (And its "solved").
The main problem seems to be a strict samsung charging chip mounted on the s4, that only with some cables charges at full speed (1900ma) with others thats works perfectly with other phones (Charging at full speed) doesn't charge at maximum currency (300-500ma) (I was testing with a Galaxy S4 i9500, a S5 mini g800y and a Galaxy Grand i9080).
No, I have replaced the charging thingy. Blah blah, because I broke the port once. Also have tried different cables and they all give 1900 amp. I just pulled the 2 pins with a needle and its giving 600-1080 amps.

The USB spec calls for four lines, though the mini and micro connectors have five. In most cases that fifth pin will not be used, although Garmin bridges pins 4 and 5 in their DC adapters to let the GPS know it's connected to a charger and not a PC. Based upon your description, it's unlikely the cable is the problem. I would borrow a friend's charger and connect your cable and phone to it. If it charges faster then you know your charger went south. Otherwise the issue is somewhere within the S4.
I have tried every cable and every adaptor in this planet, they all work well, I just wanted to use the original charger bcoz I don't want some cheap Chinese cable (I'm Chinese BTW) catching on fire and burning my house down....

One thing to keep in mind, that I just though about, is that the S4 charger uses all four pins for charging. You want to measure all four pins and add the results. It should be close to the rated output of the charger.
In your case though, if the other adapters worked and yours didn't, the adapter is faulty.
