(Q) Using Samsung Galaxy S2 charger with the Nexus 4? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it safe to use the charger from the Samsung Galaxy S2 with my Nexus 4? It fits perfectly. Will it deplete the batteries health or anything? Thanks!

That's the whole point of making a standard charger. Of course it's safe, any micro USB charger is safe.
I'm charging my Sony Ericsson with Samsung charger in one room, and Nexus 7 charger in other room, and my SE charger is in my backpack to carry around.

It's safe and it's better you use the Samsung one rather than stock nexus 4, since it has deep problems! (red light of death)

I've used the charger of my Samsung Galaxy S2 a couple of times. Works fine.
So do other chargers, like my old Nokia 1.2A charger. And charging via Qi (Philips pad) and USB port of a PC works fine too.
Just make sure you use good quality chargers, and not fakes.
And yes sometimes it's hard to differentiate between the two...

I'm sure any micro usb charger is fine. I use different chargers all the time. If it fits, it'll charge.

The charger has nothing to do with causing the "red light of death".

If you'll look through Q&A there are several threads about it. People panic and create them instead of looking for others with the same problem. The phone shuts off and gives a blinking red led. Most of the time it's fixable

lag while charging

anybody else noticed that phone responds less and lagier while charging. i noticed lut more chopier behavior in scrolling screens in launcher pro and adw
I thought the Galaxy didn't have any lag problems, that sucks. I don't have the phone so I can't comment, hopefully it comes to America soon.

it doesnt have while not on charger. it seams thet screen sensitivity drops down or cpu scales down. dont realy know what is causing this
yes I also noticed this yesterday while trying to use the phone while charging...gave up trying to write a message, was too hard due to the lag
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I noticed this on the S1 but never did on the S2.. I usually play a lot of games even when charging.
Are you guys using official Samsung chargers, as far as I know from experience the lag while charging only occurs with a 3rd party charger, not with the official charger.
It's the faulty charger.

It does in fact have different thresholds when charging vs not charging.
They're talking a bit about it in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072471
Original charger, not faulty (second one behaves the same, second phone behaves the same)!
Most likely that the CPU skales down to prevent damages.
noticed that,too
If you guys are using screen protectors it might be the problem :/

affects me as well. Anyone got any idea how to solve charging lag?
Mine galaxy s and s2 are ok with original charger. But when i tried cheap ebay 2$ charger, touchscreen just go crazy and laggy. So i throw them in the bin. Always use original charger.
This is a known issue. Flash a kernel with vitallij's touch screen sensitivity fix or install touchscreentune app and change MoveHyst to 90 and BLEN to 3.
Do a search in the forum for the app.

Use a charger that doesn't suck - the screen responsiveness issues are caused by chargers that put too much noise on the power supply.
Usually is due to bad chargers, but even a stock charger on unclean wall power can cause issues. (Such as when I tried to plug my charger into an inverter.)
If you get a USB cable that has a ferrite filter on it, that may help.

Then you've got noisy wall power. Maybe try a cable with a ferrite filter.
Considering that the USB cable Samsung ships is crap then yes, the charger could be crap. (The USB cable is left plugged into the PC will cause the computer to ding like device connected then disconnect)

read the user manual that came with the phone box...
pretty sure it states something like this..
"touchscreen may be unresponsive while charging"
at least it said that for the gnex, the gs2 one was read too long ago for me to remember.

Different charger matters !

In some of the post i had read that touch sensitivity is affected largely when charging the note.I was wondering how mine works smooth without any problem ?
But once i connected galaxy s's charger to note and it influenced the note sensitivity, some touches dint get recognised, too much lag, slow......
When connected back to original charger, was working fine again.
So to summarize, original Note charger doesn't cause any problem with note, but if you connect other android charger to it, it affects touch sensitivity.
I am using an LG adapter since the original that came with Note has a hissing sound when not in charge, and its working fine with no probs.
My charger is the opposite. My Note charger is so bad that when my morning alarm goes off I have to unplug the phone because it doesn't recognise my finger sliding across the screen. I am now using my old iphone charger which is perfect.
To find which was the best I tested them all plugged in individually and used the touch and s-pen tests using the *#0*# test screen.
I tested quite a few various usb chargers that I had around the house and all had different results.
I have encountered this issue with the original charger too. not sure if its an issue with the lcd screen because i previously went to the service centre and apparently they told me they changed my lcd screen and it has in fact gotten worse after the servicing.
any idea what my next step should be?
Anyone using a charger that's under the 1A rating as the original has? I have a bunch of 700 mAh Samsung ones and an afraid to use a lower voltage on the the 2500 mAh battery...

What I heard, its normal that touch sensitive got affected, when using the phone, while charging and that's one of the flaw with AMOLED screens.
Maybe someone can confirm it?

they all deliver the same voltage (5V). the Mah rating just changes how fast it charges up.
PANTS !!!!!
The note behaves this way with various roms, mainly KL based, with or without usb cable plugged in and regardless of what charger you use.
You should check these things first, hence why KL7 was pulled by samsung.
I'm using my HD2 charger, and it seems okay.
Can any other ex-HD2 users confirm this?
I used and old SGS charger for a while.. And a very small part of the touchscreen became unusable while charging.. With the charger that i got with the Gnote that problem doesnt exist..
I used the Samsung charger that came with my note for awhile but switched back to my original iPhone charger(The bigger one not the small new ones) both worked fine no issues with the screen or anything. Do notice that the Samsung charger gets hot after a full charge and my iPhone charger didn't other than that no issues.

It's not just AMOLED screens, but rather many touch screen smartphones. My Original Droid and my current Droid X both exhibit touch screen abnormalities when plugged in. I have also heard of iPhones exhibiting issues as well. I've heard changing out chargers does help.
I've also been using my iPhone charger and have not expeirenced any problems with the sensitivity of the screen.
I charge my SGN at night.
I have noticed that my Note gets 41 degree Celcius next morning using an SG2 charger.
On the other hand, if I use a third party charger - 23 degree Celcius next morning.
I have been using a 550ma Sony Ericsson charger for a couple of months and i have had no problems, I have never used the htc supplied one.

[Q] Q9 wireless charging problem

Hi!
I've just received the Q9 Wireless Charger from a manufacturer in china.
It's Qi-compatible and have been seen working with the Nexus 4.
Mine does not seem to work.
The manual says a led should be shining green when it's ready to charge or when it's charging. It's hard to read the chinese translated manual.
Mine just shines red and blue constantly and nothing is happening with the phone.
Am i doing something wrong? Do i have to activate it in my phone? I've tried putting it in any direction in any place on the pad.
Someone have a clue?
EDIT:
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-...AXGI/bQONE5B2MMw/s718/IMG_20130106_121126.jpg
I have the Energizer Qi charger and when I place the phone on the charging plate, a light over the plate shines a steady blue until charging is complete. Flashing multiple colors (especially if one of them is red) probably means there is a problem with the charging system or the power.

That's what i'm afraid of. The thing is that the leads shows blue and red all the time, even when the phone's of the pad. Updating with a picture.

Is the power cord connected securely? Maybe it's not pushed in completely (or shouldn't be pushed in so far).
For what it's worth that's not the Qi symbol on the charge plate.
If possible, send it back for replacement. It seems to me that those two LEDs should light up for no more hen a few seconds after the device is plugged in and then turn off until they nerd to indicate some condition like charge complete or error.

I have the Q9 charger for couple of days.
It's takes many tries of locating Nexus 4 on chargers surface to make it work.
Many times (most of my tries) I unable to make it work at all.
I am wary disappointed with this charger. It was waist of many.
I shouldn't have to be such cheapskate.
Q9 Qi-charger broken
I had mine for about a week now. Used it with my Nexus 4. Charges the Nexus quickly, but when at 100% it stops charging. Only when unplugging charger and re-plugging it, it will charge again. One morning Nexus was at 77% while laying on charger. After a few times unplugging, the connector was pushed into the charger leaving it useless. Do not buy!
Just got one too
I have to place my Nexus towards the top of the charger for it to activate and start charging.
Took me a while to find the correct placement.
My pad is supposed to flash blue when its charging - It starts charging and then seems to stop, then start again, then stop - not sure if this is normal or not.
So far i'm pretty disappointed with it, I assume because I got a cheapy from china that this isn't the normal experience with QI chargers, but I doubt I will be buying another until I see someone else with a much better model.

Suddenly...... Nexus 7 is not charging up

I have been using my nexus 7 2012 for a year now .. it worked brilliant .. but now this horrible issues has sprung in from nowhere .. the battery wont charge up, or rarely it does,, but very slowly. i am running stock 4.4 unrooted . i have checked my ports for dust, swapped several cables and chargers (also used the original charger and cable). but with no luck. Surprisingly the problem appeared suddenly, one day it charged normally , the next day i left it on charge at 60% and returned to find it on 59%.. help me .. this is driving me crazy
Install the Battery Monitor Widget - should give you an idea of charging/power consumption. I'm assuming you've tried using the stock charger and cable?

I think your battery connector is messed up. U might have to open your tablet and disconnect then reconnect the cables.

]I too have this same issue....
I have the official dock and never had any charge issues until yesterday....
While it's in the dock, it clearly shows it charging and yet the battery meter appears to be losing charge...
I have tried with the original cable and plug among other cables and yet nothing...
The only way for me to get charged is to turn the unit off and yet it still charges painfully slow...
Anyone with a solution other than opening the thing up and hoping it's the plug?
I am running 4.4.2
Mine's having the same problem. It seems to be a hardware problem.. It's charging very slowly or can't be fully charged.
* I have other devices running 4.4 without charging problems.
Mine started with the 4.4.2 update....
It's very strange... If I turn it off and charge... it charges (again) very slowly.... 3 hours and I went from a 2% charge to 59%...
Doesn't matter if I use the dock or plug it in direct.....
So, to me... I would say a software problem... I just don't want to do a full reset and re-install if I don't have too...
my wife's was all the way dead today after not being used and wouldn't turn on. left it plugged in for 30 min and it powered on with only 2% battery. i t is stock unrooted and everything was all good until 4.4.2 is now charging very slowly. I switched to a non oem usb wire with the asus charger to see if it helps. it is the only stock android in my home (out of 7 devices) and I plan to keep it that way for now.

N7 is very easy to open and close back.
I had the EXACT same issue 2-3 times this year and disconnecting the cable and reconnecting it back fixes it EVERY TIME.
The battery cable is short and the battery is loose so movement pulls the cable out. Not all pins are touching so it results in poor contacts or no contact at all.
Its a design flaw that can also be fixed by sticking a folded paper under the battery.
Voilà!

Tried unplugging and replugging but it's still the same. I think it's my charging connector though. It randomly disconnects when I plug it into the PC. Tried with 3 different cables even the stock one. But I'm not sure if it's the port or the battery. It charges up to < 60 slowly but it doesn't go beyond that and starts draining. Thinking of selling it and getting a flo instead

Just a thought, but another possibility is that the ribbon cable to the USB/headphone jack flex assembly has worked loose to the point of intermittent connections. See "step 10" of iFixit's N7 teardown
Or, if the connector itself is mechanically damaged, maybe there is some way to buy just that Asus sub-assembly. Anyone have a source?
picture of sub-assembly ->
Edit - wow, folks are selling them on eBay for US $50. yikes.
I have the same problem, I purchased a nexus 7 charging dock from Amazon and it charges flawlessly. The dock charges using the 4 pins on the side of the tablet. BTW...The charging dock is under 24.00+ Shipping.

I had the same thing, make sure to use the Samsung charger or a high quality charger of at least 1.8A. I bought an import phone that came with a generic charger that suited my wall socket, it would charge for a few mins then the screen came on and I heard the ding sound as though it was taken off charge. I went and bought a universal adapter and now using Samsung charger all is well, it is possible your charger is faulty even if using original.

Thanks for the info. I was using a charger that came with another phone and the screen kept coming on and off. I got the original charger out of the box and started using that and all is well. As for the LED, it seems that I had turned it off hoping that was the cause of my screen coming on during charging, I changed that setting back to the original and the LED is working again.
