sorry to hear. Just takes a few days to get a new one .that's the crappy part. the mic went out on mine just outside of the 14 day return period. needless to say i was less than thrilled. hope they express mail your new one to you.

They put it in for a free priority overnight. So hopefully tomorow when I get up I have my phone.

My power button was broken when I first got it.. Weird thing is the ladies at verizon didn't believe me..

How many people have problems with the back button

This is the only thing stopping me from getting this phone.. I'm trying to determine how wide spread the issue is. I figured a poll was the best way to see how wide spread the issue was, and whether its worth it to shop around to try and find a working phone
Mine seems to work fine Its not as sensitive as say my girlfriends Incredible buttons, the ones on the Epic seem to work more like physical buttons but they aren't. You have to use a little force for it to recognize and I actually prefer that because I always found myself coincidently hitting the buttons on my girlfriends Incredible when i didn't mean to/meant to press another button
It is really a non issue for me. Haven't noticed it.
I think if you used one of the defective phones, it would have been obvious.. All the other buttons worked without issue. The back button on the one I tried wouldn't register no matter how hard or how long you pressed it - some times. Some times it would register for a light little hit, other times I'd be pressing down pretty hard and nothing. By the second or third time, you'd feel the feedback buzz (which was pretty cool), and it would actually work..
It was sort of funny, the rep who was trying to sell me the phone started off to try and down play it and say "I'd just have to get used to it"... until I gave it to him. In the end, he agreed there was something wrong.
I didn't want to make the guy try other phones because I was planning on purchasing the phone from my business' phone retailer... It would have been sort of wrong to make the guy go through 3 phones and just leave if I found one that worked..
Not sure if it matters, but what state are you guys in? I'd imagine that similar batches ship to the same region.. I'm in LI, NY
Absolutely never had a problem with the backbutton.
All 4 of my capacative buttons work with light taps AND full presses.
Its hard to tell wherethe buttons are when the lights time out, and you have to hit the button in the right spot for it to register. My nexus was the same with its capacatives.

While I don't think there is an issue with the buttons persay. I was doing some testing and seems there might be some "lag" I was having this issue more with the home button at times. One time after i knew i clicked it i let is sit. took a few seconds but continued to do its thing... So maybe its the same with the back button as well. Next time after you click it once let is sit and see if it proceeds.. that way we know its a lag issue vs button issue. A lag issue would be easier to fix I would think.
First of all NeonMonster, thank you for being awesome with the Nexus One back in the day of rooting it and changing things! Haha.
Secondly,
I had a defective Epic 4G. The back button was the worst of the bunch. I would have to hit it 10-15 times to get it to work. But it wasn't the only faulty button. All of the capactive buttons seemed to falter just about anytime I went to use them.
I went to Sprint the next day and explained the problem and she said I was the first to bring it to their attention. But long story short, she exchanged it and the buttoms work perfectly. There aren't as sensitive as say the EVO or Incredible but they work as intended and the phone I once thought was hopeless and I hated, is now a phone I'm contemplating keeping.
So there are definitely defective devices out there but it is as simple as going in and getting a replacement.
Thanks for everything you guys do!
I picked my Epic on launch day and all was well..my brother on the other hand just got one this afternoon and after we got it activated i hvae noticed his has this same problem.

I didn't notice any lag... Again, I think if you have a defective phone, it would be obvious. A press just didn't register, even if you'd wait..
Yeah, there isn't a lag. It just straight up does not register any contact. You have a defective phone. I took mine back and got a new one and it works EXACTLY like it should. Night and Day!
Buttons work great.
I bought the cheap screen protecter at RS and had it put on in store, my button presses were instant. When I got home and decided I didn't like or really need the screen protector, I took it off and then my button presses didn't register as smoothly may be a quick fix for some that want to use a screen protector.

Aww from the nexus forum?? That was such a fun time! The nexus is truly a phone meant to be rooted. kinda miss that thing but the keyboard on the epic is too good.
But yes, there will always be phones that are defective and need to be replaced.
yeah i noticed some lag on mine. i also tripped out when then home and menu buttons were switched (compared to the evo) and kept pressing the wrong buttons.
its looking like a 50/50 so far on getting a phone without tis problem :-\

That logic doesn't work.
1. Most people that don't have the problem won't vote.
2. Remove the people on the last option and it's 70/30 (at the time I write this).
You might be right with #1 (I don't know), but as for #2 it is 15-14 for people who are and aren't having some sort of problem with the back button (or other buttons)..
I do agree that this is far from scientific, as people who have never used the phone are likely to be voting..
Only read because I had the issue
Yep. I think you might just skip over this thread all together unless you've had the issue. Personally, I got one phone with the issue, exchanged it, and got another with the same problem - although not as bad as the first. However, I haven't returned the second one yet and the problem seems to have gone away. I'm not sure exactly how these buttons are engineered, but I'm wondering if more people with this problem will simply see it go away. FYI: the first phone I had was getting better but it started out as more of a 70% fail/only work with hard mashing.
My back button has a mind of its own :-( it presses itself when it wants to. Very annoying.

My first phone didn't have a working 4g radio. The second had this problem and it is very annoying if your used to a working button I returned it to radio shack. My third phone is perfect in every way.(hardware wise) this was all in the first week of the phone release. I would deffinetly go back and return it.

Dropped my desire hd

So, today I dropped my dhd.... literally 3 feet, nothing crazy..... and it has a full body invisible shield and an otterbox case.... it did land on a corner, wood floor.... now, when I go to wake the phone up.... it turns on. It is randomly powering off since the very, gentle fall.....
It does not make a lot of sense, any thoughts or recommendations appreciated.

try taking out your cards and battery, the drop may have un seated them
first thing I tried.... clips look good, battery looks good, phone looks great.... when I put in my second battery... it seemed to be running well, until 6 minutes ago, when I pressed the power button... silly phone was off again.
I powered down, ejected all 3 items, placed them all back in.... it was such a harmless fall, with a full protected phone....
sounds like something may have become loose, i sense a rma back to htc if a full wipe etc dosnt solve it
not 100% sure, but after pushing the sim card out and in again... has not happened since.... I hope as heck it is ok, such a simple drop, heh!
thx
I'ved dropped my phone like a thousand times but nothing like this has happend too me!
I think HTC will replace on you warranty for this... Ask them!
sim card not making connections properlly will cause the phone to reboot, as i found out when i first got my desire hd, my 15 year old simcard was too worn to make a clean connection. once i went down to the tmobile shop they descovered it was that at fault after i said the phone was knackard.
simcards will compress very slightly over its life causing poorer connections.
if the problem has now dissapeared it may be worth your while getting a new sim if it is of age.

Yep, t-mobile has always been good to me (actually the card was 121 printed on it).
Hello guys,
Funny thing, I gave my dad a DHD to play around with (hoping that he will finally get rid of his BB), just a few days ago in his office he mistakingly dropped it 7 floors down to the parking lot.
Amazing, just amazing, except a few bumps here and there, a cracked Sim cover and a bit broken battery cover, the DHD came back to working without and problem.
I am sure if it did not happen to me I would have been sceptic, but IT REALLY HAPPENED.
Thumbs up htc for a strong unit.
I dropped mine from my pocket and nothing happened, not even a scratch.
I'm gonna report an incident I've reported again in the forums.
When I first got my DHD,about one week if I remember well,I went for a drink with some friends. Before we went to the pub we usually go to,we wanted to eat something,so we went to this fast food. While we were waiting for our food,we were saying the usual bull**** we always say with the guys.Sometimes though we tend to pull the strings, and I told one of them off badly,so he decided to punch my leg.Unfortunately, with his full strength, his fist landed on my new, shiny and unprotected DHD,which was in my pocket. As soon as I realised it,my heart went at the kidney's place, the kidney went at my stomach's place and my stomach went all the way to my head out fear!
Next day?My DHD was like nothing happened and my pal's hand was almost broken.
Yep,thumbs up HTC!
yea, it was pretty weird and once in a while... I hit the power button and it is OFF again, not rebooting... off, hitting the wake button turns it back on.... might be software etc....
but on that day, it was happening every 2o minutes, lol
I love htcs design.

Back button freezing a lot

I got my Nexus S 4G about two weeks ago when Sprint sent it as a replacement for my old Epic. Since I got it my back button has been locking up constantly. I have to turn the screen off and on again or wait the 10 seconds that it takes for it to unfreeze. Sometimes it backs me out all the way to the home screen when it happens. Does anyone know of a fix or something, because this is really getting bringing my mood down on what is otherwise a really awesome phone.

It's unfortunately a known hardware issue: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=455215ff8747658b&hl=en
So I have to get a replacement don't I?
My white i9020a's back button has been freezing a lot too. At least 3 times a day. I've even had the home button freeze once. I'm hoping that the ICS update addresses it as the phone didn't include a warranty..
I had that problem a few weeks back. I flashed a few different kernels and also took the cover off and loosened the screw behind the back button. Not sure which did it but it's fine now.

Brand new Note 4 turning off randomly

Literally just got it an hour ago, installed my old apps and it now is turning off randomly. Sometimes when it's in my pocket, other times when it's sitting on my desk. Makes no sense, google'd and found nothing of any help really.
I've battery pulled tons of times, and sometimes I have to pull two to three times before the damn phone will even power on.
Plugged it in just now, it will show it's fast charging... try to turn it on and it won't turn on.
Taking it back for replacement or maybe a new battery. Just checking if anyone else has this problem.
Just an update: It was a complete dud from the factory.
So after taking it back to the VZW store I agreed to see if ti was just the battery, get home and go to look at the phone. Dead.
Got a brand new one and it's fine now.

I'm a business customer, they better make me happy. lol
It was saddening that I got one of the only phones(from my searching) to ever have these problems.. but everyone makes duds...

Bricked it...only 5 days old.

Gee, I didn't have a chance to root it or anything. I just got my Turbo 2 on Monday from Moto-Maker, got it all set up like I wanted, was checking FB, and the app froze. I closed it out, and opened it up again, and it froze again. So I shut the phone down thinking I would restart it, but after it turned off, it wouldn't start again. Tried holding the power button for 10 seconds, tried booting into recovery, tried charging, tried hooking it up to a computer. Nothing. Black screen, dead, never turned back on, not even a recharging indicator. I'm bummed.
I've already started the exchange process with Moto, but I thought I would post here as a heads up in case it becomes a problem with this model. I've had bricked phones before, but never after 5 days.
Just sounds like you got a defective phone, hopefully your replacement is fine. You're not gonna get a chance to root the next one anytime soon, these phones haven't been rooted yet.
Root will come. It always does. I hadn't even thought about it. I usually run stock for at least a few months so I can figure out what I want to change.
Root doesn't always come, not any more.... There are a number of phones that have never received a proper root. Some have temporary root, some have nothing.
Never buy a phone for what it MIGHT do in the future...
Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Oh yeah. I got that. I'm not concerned about having root. The point I made was that I hadn't done anything to the phone to brick it. This phone will get root. Just like last year's Turbo did...eventually. Verizon makes it difficult, but eventually someone figured it out. But the T2 is some decent hardware, so someone will eventually decide to do it. Probably have to pay for it, though.

Same thing just happened to mine - only 4 days out of the return period! I'm so pissed. I plugged it into the turbocharger to charge overnight, and when I woke up in the morning I realized my alarm never went off. Phone won't respond when plugged into a charger, PC, power button, or holding any combination of keys to hard reset.

Update, Verizon replaced it with a brand new phone despite being of my return period. The manager said they can, at their discretion, perform a new-for-new exchange up to 30 days and mine was obviously DOA. He said he had never seen one of these die like this, and it's usually one of their better phones. I have my fingers crossed that this one works out OK.
I had to order my replacement from Moto Maker. I've had it for two weeks with no issues.
