[Q] In-call audio problem (4.3 stock): no sound! - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
as many others, I'm having an issue with in-call audio while making and receiving calls. Incoming and outgoing sounds are totally missinng. No one can ear me and I cannot ear nobody, as the call timer increases... Same issue over BT, cable headset and handsfree while VOIP calls are working fine.
It looks like someone solved the problem installing a different baseband but I guess mine is already the last one, isn't it?
My N4 has been updated to 4.3 (stock):
Baseband: M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.84
Build: JWR66Y
Thanks a lot!!! Any suggestion is really appreciated!!!

Even after the last update the problem remains...
4.4.2

What I've found out is that the problem has to be somehow related to the cells configuration. I've installed a simple tool to trace the cell ids and later I've started to patiently analize the in-call audio behavior while connecting to different cells.
In my hometown, a rather small village, It ALWAYS worked. The phone does connect ALWAYS to the same cell.
During my working time, most of the times I've experienced the in-call audio problem, while it worked just a few times. What it was clear is that the phone worked while connecting to a very small group of cells. The group is even getting smaller each day...
Any hint will be really appreciated...
Bye.

A Strange Audio problem

Hi, I cannot hear any sound during an out going call(O2 Xda Atom). No ring back, no voice after connect, tried earphones - no luck, tried the switch on the earphone jack - no luck, checked for software clashes, cold reboot, re-flash and couple of ROMs... the other party during a call hears hissing noise. In coming call is fine, both can hear well.
The speakers and mic are good. I can play music, videos, ringtone.. no problem. Also tried audio recording, no problems - the mic is fine. Any clue what is going on? Plz help.

Basically you can flash back to original WM5.O to confirm if it is ROM problem. For your case, I strongly believe it is not a hardware problem
Thanks for the response Sono. But the phone was working fine with wm6, at least for an year. Now I've tried 6, 6.1 and 6.5. I dont have a WM5 ROM back up, will try to get one tomorrow.
Jole.

Tried flashing the original WM5 too, but no fix. I used to format file sysytem and install radio on my Tornado. Is there something similiar for Atom? Can I update GSM manually? Any advice?

Okay theres a number of things you can try to help diagnose it. Do this all on a clean install of WM6 or 6.5.. Preferably on a ROM that hasnt had any reported issues.
1. The outgoing call gives the receiver static.. correct? is it to any number or just specific numbers?
2. Do you have a bluetooth headset around that you can try? If so then pair it up and see if it does the job, that will prove that its a hardware problem.
3. Try a different dialer or the stock dialer.
Thanks Aegishua for the response, I flashed back to a wm6 ROM that was working fine for over an year. This is what I observed:
1. Calls to two GSM and one land-line gave the same results. The phone is silent, the other party hears a loud hissing and a high pitch tone, not so loud, almost like feed back noise. No change when I mute/unmute, switch on/off spkr phone. when I select 'hold' the noise is replaced with a hold music from the network. In-call recording captures my voice thru the mic.
2. I could not try a BT headset, hope to get one tomorrow.
3. At least four different dialers tried incl original wm5 dialer, wizard dialer- retouched, Yota etc. Each of them returned the same results.
Please advise.
Ok, I got a BT headset, but the result is same as before. That is, out going call no audio at all, in coming calls ok. Does it mean the GSM module is bad? Is there a solution, other than replacing the entire ckt board?
Thanks, Jole.
bump..have you solved this kabayan? same problem encountered
atom life call problem fixed!

Mga kabayan, im not sure if this will work for you.
i assume youre using globe sim card and i experienced it before when i first flashed my atom life (with official rom) to a cooked 6.5. (talagang my issue kc ang atom life s globe kaya fix nila s official upgrade nila.)
so i upgrade it 1st with an official upgade rom from O2 before i flash it to a cooked 6.5. a long procedure but worthy. Try nyo lng din. hope it will help.
btw, after testing all latest rom... i am still using and preffered our kabayan chef bajok's 23004 release. not much in latest interface but it is stable and free from any bugs.

[Q] It's impossible call on my nexus 4

Hi everyone!! I have a big issue on my new Nexus 4: when I'm calling I can't heard anything and the other person as well. I think it's because of the Jeally Bean update. Indeed the microphone and the speaker works (I tryed to call a friend of mine on Viber. Unlike, when i'm calling someone in a normal way, through the "normal call app" of the phone, microphone and speaker are mute and my phone doesn't permitt me to switch them on), so, the problem is related to the software and not to the hardware.
Any Advises?
Install a substitute app to call (even if i'm not doing a Voip call)? Or install a CyanogenMod? Or send my nexus back to google?
Thanks a lot!!!
If it worked at one time and quit working after an update, try manually installing the update yourself.
Use efrant's "Return to stock" thread stickied in General to reflash the stock images. If that doesn't fix it, it's RMA time.

Hi it just happened to me out of no where I panic and everything I think it was an update. And that makes that the proximity sensor don't work either.
Try to call with your headphones if you can hear, its the n4 that thinks that he have headphone plugged but indeed they are not plugged.
I tried flashing, stock flash and nothing. The only way it fixed was,
Factory reset, flash pure 4.2.1 , flash Franco kernel ,flash pure 4.2.1 a little hit in the headphones jack and done!

I tryed but, with the headphones from my mp3 player, I can't hear anything.

Sorry, what does it mean (I'm a beginner)? ok, flash means install, the "pure 4.2.1" is a mod (a mod or the official version?), and then? have I to install again pure 4.2.1? and what does it means "a little hit i the headphones"? Really, sorry if i ask stupid stuff, but I'm a beginner and, furthermore, I am not self confident with my English!

Call mic issues - Tmobile d801

Hi, I recently started to have a call issue where people can't hear me over their phones. Seems to happen with iPhone users a lot. Doesn't matter if I call them or if they call me, the other person can't hear me, no matter how I position the phone or how loud I speak. But if I turn on speaker phone, than they hear me perfectly once again.
I tried disabling voice enhancement which seemed to help a little bit.
I was wondering if there was anyone else that is having a similar issue.
I am hoping this is something I can fix, and not a hardware issue like a broke mic.
I am rooted running Tmobile clean rom. No major mods or anything.

Viber Speaker Bug

Hi, I'm writing to you to address a problem I have been having for a while now. When I speak on the phone and the speaker is off, the other person hears themself echo. It works fine when the speaker is on but when the speaker is on everyone hears your conversation.
and,
My friend has the same phone (LG G2 D802) as me and we were speaking on Viber and again without the speaker on it was echoing for the both of us. When we both turned on our speakers it started making a static like sound. Oddly enough when we turned off the speaker both the static sound and the echoing stopped. It was weird but i dont want to have to turn the speaker on off everytime and even when i do it doesnt work everytime.
My Device: LG G2 D802 (Android 4.4.2)
Same problem here, I think its common to all G2s.
I haven't tried it on a custom Rom yet cause I've been running stock mostly, but I'm betting its software.
Same problem here
Hello, its not just Viber its almost all of the VoIP clients. I have serious doubts about "its software issue" well I have tried almost 4 different roms. from stock 4.2.2 to CM 11. Nothing seems to work. I wonder its the chip. i don't know i am not expert.
if you have any VoIP working plz share. thanks.
For everyone that is experiencing this issue: we are gathering more information and would appreciate if you could open a support ticket here: http://bit.ly/1aOwGy2 in order to help us investigate.

[Q] SM N9005 - I need Help for solve some problems

Hi everybody,
I have a Note 3 N9005 and I encountered some problems. (sorry for my bad english)
- The first problem is a strange noise when I listen music connecting the smartphone to an amplifier or an active speaker using the headphone output.
When I play next track I hear a strange "toc" sound in my speakers. Sometimes only to touch the screen I can hear this "toc" sound.
I made a video to explain better but I can't post outside link...
I tryed other cable but never change.
- The second problem is the low volume of microphone when I call on phone, Viber ecc. The caller says to listen always to my voice low.
- And the last is about the received signal, it is always a bit low and sometimes is lost. With another phone put near the Note 3 is all ok.
So now I'd like to know if my device have some hardware defects or not and if I can solve they or if I should take it to a service center Samsung.
Thank you in advance, bye

Software update of course. What kind of kit kat have you? The last one is GNG1(NEE)
Yes try to update to the latest firmware first.
I have UENB7 yet because with new update I will lose the root privilege. (Towel root).
Has anyone encounter problems with audio connecting to amplifier? Try to search "connexvideo" channel on YouTube and watch "test audio note 3" video. Here you can listen the "toc" noise.
With root can I increase the microphone volume in call? If yes, what is the line to change the value?
Thanks, bye
connex
I have rooted again my Note 3 so I need help to increase mic volume in call.
I found the file "mixer_paths.xml" but I don't know what to do, any idea?
Thank you, bye

Put it into system/etc. Use x-plore as it will automatically replace the original files and apply respective permission.
