Hi all does the note 2 support inductive charging or do you have to replace the back? Its just I notice there is something in the back cover and i hear this is NFC for payments I was just wondering if it was also capable of inductive charging out of the box or if it has to be adapted in some way.

Well it has the wireless chargimg tabs under the back cover like the s3 so im going to say yes

If it does support this, I wonder why Samsung hasn't mentioned it in their presentations or included it within the official specs? Hope it is possible though.

I bet a palm pre inductive coil will fit under the battery cover

Soo... here is a picture of the back... and yeah... i also think they have at least integrated the connectors for wireless charging into my note 2 xD

Out of the box it does not support wireless charging. I suspect it could be modified to use a Palm inductive charger though. I've been messing with my Note 2 and a Palm Pre inductive charger for the last half hour or so. The PCB of the Pre back cover fits into the little groove next to the micro SD slot (I had to cut a small part of the PCB off - see the red circle in the last image) and the coil/magnet cluster fits very easily between the back cover and the battery. Visually/tactilely it's pretty much impossible to detect when they've been put in there.
Unfortunately, I've never modded a device to use inductive charging before so I'm a little hesitant to proceed.
wow... that looks very good ...
Hmmm but without a technical background I would not risk that... you have at least to measure all that stuff ...
(sorry for being no help)...

i would rather not to do it, i think note 2 is the ame as Galaxy s3, they have the capability you just need to wait for the battery cover replacement sold. or you can take buy one fro S3 and rip out whatever in that back cover (coil) put it in your note 2 back cover. http://www.androidauthority.com/wir...samsung-galaxy-s3-hits-verizon-stores-105433/
Its all just my theory though.... for me better just wait rather risking my gorgeous note 2 which is note yet in my hand right now....
Hello guys,
Former Palmer/webOS user here. Actually, toying with the inductive back of Palm Pre & Touchstone charger, is not that risky nor difficult, not at all. I've tested it as a kind of proof of concept, with my SGS 2 - just put the coils/PCB assembly at the back of phone cover, and soldered two wires to the coils's output contacts. These two wires, I just ran to the micro USB plug. When I've connected that plug to the phone's micro USB port and put the phone on the Touchstone charger, it starts charging - that's all. Coil's integrated PCB sorts out things like converting AC/induction back to DC, 5V etc. What you are getting out of it, is your pure, standard, USB-compatible juice.
The only reason why I wasn't using it permanently, was that I didn't wan't to solder anything on my SGS 2's PCB (didn't feel like it is a smart idea, with it's tiny tracks and my soldering skills - or rather the lack of thereof). And having micro USB plug stuck in phone's bottom all the time, didn't appeal to me, somehow
But if the SGS3/Note2 already had the required contacts behind it's back cover, it will be a breeze DIY project. And one damn handy and cool-loking charger on your desk, believe me.
I'll try to post some photos of my POC setup later on.
Best regards!

I purchased a couple of kits - one was just the inductive charging module for the phone, which I installed and separately picked up a couple of charging bases; the other one was a complete kit.
This kit (not by this seller, but the photo is the same as the kit I purchased) is very elegant, thin, and easy to install. You can barely see the bulge in the back of the case. The only problem I have is that the magnets seem to be slightly too weak so the position is a bit inexact. I've added a couple of extra magnets but will end up replacing the originals with my slightly-stronger replacements in the end I suspect. Overall this kit, although expensive on Ebay does the job and looks good.
This charging module was easy to install but the one I received had the polarity of the charging pins reversed so I had to make a modification to get it working. Here is a post of my preliminary mod to get it working; since that post I've done some clean-up but the one linked above thinner so I'm using it as my primary right now.
Maybe this help!!!

And thought that this is all I would need in order to charge my battery. However, Now I'm worried I will need a battery door. Does anyone know git certain whether or not I will need a different battery door to use wireless charging (currently using the one that came out of the box) if so, where would I be able to find one at? Don't need to get a new battery door. That new Samsung door will actually be larger than the current one. Some/many cases won't fit.
Get this instead - wireless receiver that fits inside the stock battery door:

I pre-ordered the one for the S4, after it was written up on Engadget. It hasn't been released yet, apparently, so I'm still waiting.
Here's the Engadget article. Some good things said about it in the comments:

The order site says that it will ship by May 31:

Well, I just bought it. Will review it when I receive it on the 31st.
I just went ahead and bought a $10 s3 qi receiver, hoping it will work but if not it isn't too much money down the drain. Will let you guys know how it works

I thought it was the battery it self that has a coil in it for the NFC and that was for charging?
if not I have my palm pre still that has that wireless charging - could I take that battery cover apart and take that coil out and just attach it to the inside of the phone
I dont see anywhere where a battery cover with this built in will connect inside like it does on the palm pre, there arent any contacts that I can see that will go to the battery charting how would this work

Are you sure you are looking at a GS4?
There are 4 contacts. 2 to the left and 2 to the right of the flash. I think the left ones are for charging. I am basically ready to do what you said but need to figure out the polarity of these contacts.

To the guy worrying about the flip cover - there are tons of wireless charging inserts on eBay. You don't need the Samsung back, just get one of those things and stick it under the cover.

I'm hoping yours worked. I've had a qi receiver in my S3 for about 6 months now. I pulled it out to see if it would work in my S4 and it doesn't quite fit. The pad would fit, but it lays over the sim card and mSdcard, which probably wouldn't be a big deal, but the problem is the two small brass contacts don't quite fit in the square charging holes on the s4, they're probably 0.25mm too large and slightly to far apart for the S4.
My S3 pad is about 6 months old though, so hopefully the newer s3 pads have been modified to work with both phones.
I love wireless charging though and just went ahead and ordered a qi pad for my s4 from the fastech link earlier in this thread.

Does the part you place in the phone get hot? Causing NFC or other issues?
The only that's stopping getting the S5 is the annoying port covers, I do not want to open the cover every time I want to charge or listen no music.
And I don't ever need to use the phone in the rain so what is the point?
Take if off then...its held in by one screw behind the back plate

The cover is only on the charging port, there isn't a headphone jack cover.

VERY annoying.
Totally subjective. I generally only toss the phone on a charger twice a day...to me it's not a big deal to have to move the cover two times.

Well, you have 3 options.
1) remove them through the screw
2) pull it forcefully, if you're really annoyed and mad at it
3) use a wireless charging kit
#3 will be much better in your case because you don't know when you will really need something. It's much better to have it and not use it than not to have it and need it.
does S5 have wireless capability?
Do what I do then. I got myself a wireless charger. It is comparatively slow to charge compared to wired charging. So, for any topping off charging, or when I have time, I put it on wireless charger. This reduces my need to open port less than once a week.

Depends a lot on the person's usage pattern too. Assuming same build quality on all phones, a person with delicate handling will take his longer than the one with rough handling. I've seen people yank the charging cables off the phones and crying when it breaks.

that's would be ****ing annoying as hell. Samsung bought an unnecessary step when charging. I charge my phone multiple times a day because I have a habit of charging when I'm at the desk because charging prevents the screen from going off and I prefer to have the phone screen on all the time because I use it as a calendar, reminder and a timer when I'm working.
That's why S5 sucks balls.
I'm waiting for the Note 4, hopefully it will not have any covers.

I remember reading some complaints about bugs with wireless charging when the Turbo was still on KitKat (the battery was a bit erratic after using some, but not all, wireless chargers). Can anyone verify whether this is fixed in in the 5.1 update? I remember folks with a Tylt *not* having this problem, so I'd be interested to hear from others using different chargers.
No problems at all.
I have this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N4B3LTE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00
It's a question of using triple coil chargers vs single coil. The Tylt and similar are triple coil chargers, so it doesn't matter where you place the phone -- it will hit a charging coil.
The Qi wireless receiver on these Quark phones is down on the lower third of the back. Especially with the "hockey puck" single coil chargers you have to place the phone with 2/3 hanging off to hit the charging coil.
I don't see an OS update fixing a bad design location. Google triple coil/3-coil Qi chargers. I've changed all mine out.

Yep, and that's a triple coil charger.
You can find flat ones also, if you don't want an angled tilt charger. But the key is "triple coil" charger. Has three transmitting coils placed throughout the pad, not just in one location.
So, gives you a much wider area you can place the phone.
You can get them for $22-$25.

What's the link to the web page you said had information to the V20 supporting wireless charging?
Actually read that best buy canceled orders of wireless charging back plates for most phones after the note 7 fiasco. Also sorry, the two contacts near the camera bezel are for nfc... The other spots were contacts are made were to be for wireless charging back plates, the pads on the back cover are insulation so the contacts do not touch the metal on the stock back plate, and lg customer service has now back pedaled on there stance of it being wireless charging compatible. So it seems it is, but it won't be released due to concern of a Samsung type disaster.
And yes, the heat generated by wireless charging could reduce battery life by over 50% if you use it exclusively. Why I said it was horrible for batteries (Lithium)
Supposedly, the note 7 problem was due to the battery being made to thin, which cause the chemical separation plate in side the battery to fail from heat, and or damage from drops, and being struck. After it failed, the chemicals mix and boom.

You realize that you made a statement about the back plate and the completely retracted everything you said in the second response. I'm not trying to be an asshole here but please make sure that you have your facts straight before posting it.
There is is no proof that those 10 pins are for wireless charging. A giant metal door can not wireless charge. You would need a coil for that. Controlled resistance and magnetic fields. I'm not saying that the pins are not for wireless charging though. If there is wireless charging, the back will have to be replaced.

It's the internet, don't get an aneurysm over a simple post. Reddit posts are hardly facts. All the other proof that you claim to have magically disappeared is just another internet post that I don't take serious. Calm down.
It's not my fault that you post false information then realize how nonsensical it was less than an hour afterward. You then get angry at me for calling you out. Are you going to apologize for that information about wireless charging heating up batteries more than quick charging? The heat is only generated at the coils themselves. The batteries remain much cooler as the energy input to them are low.
I've dropped the mic and walked out of the building. It up to you if you want to pick it up and cry to yourself. I will not destroy this thread anymore.

Lmao, yeah I'm so upset... Once again, I corrected my mistake and apologized for my misplaced statements long before you even read any of it... I know I messed up and corrected myself. You did absolutely nothing but acted like the self absorbed douche canoe that you are... I also stated that the only lg info left is a guys screen shot from reddit... Which by no means is a statement of fact... I only said it is the only thing you can find anywhere remotely tied to LG regarding wireless charging... I could honestly care less if you believe me or not, I could care less if my v20 ever gets wireless charging or not... In my opinion, and the opinion of many others wireless charging is bad for the life of Lithium batteries... Besides that, I have two extra batteries, and a damn cradle... Which I rarely use as is, plus a charge pack I carry for my speaker... I was reading this thread, got curious, did some research, and was misinformed, did some more research and found stuff which seems more accurate, yet is still inconclusive... So in closing, instead of quoting my posts, and my self correction of my post, why don't you post something meaningful, since you claim to have all the damn answers and not one shread of proof. At least I have the balls to say my first post was wrong... You aren't telling me a damn thing I didn't already know, or admit to for that matter... The problem with the current receivers is that they max out at 1 amp at 5v of input to the phone. You'll get an error that states "Charging Slowly" Use the charger and cable that were provided with this phone, or check the cable is properly connected." On clearing the error it will charge but... huh... slowly. I don't believe it's damaged the battery as it still gets me through a day. It's just a pain having to clear the error. So if it eventually damages the battery or shortens it's life - I'll get a new battery. As we all know they're easily replaced.

The LG v20 does support wireless charging... At least a according to LG's site... The back cover does not have contact points because it's already made from metal... And wireless charging is the worst thing to do to your phone... Just saying.

I've said I'd never buy a phone without wireless charging... well - here I am. It's too convenient to plop your phone on the charger on your nightstand, your desk, and in your car. I'm hoping we get wireless charging as this is the only thing that can get me to change out my V20 (as of today). Love the phone.
If it's hard on the battery, I'll replace the battery - which we can do and many others can't.

Hi Bob,
Good day! Thank you for getting in touch with LG Email Services. We appreciate your continued support for our products.
We understand your concerns and it's our pleasure to assist you on this matter. For now, whether or not the LG V20 will be made compatible with wireless charging still remains to be seen. Technically the phone will need an attachment or special back cover to enable wireless charging support but, the last we heard from our product specialists, there are still no plans to make this accessory available currently.
The available OEM folio cases for this phone model do not have wireless charging support. You may see these on our LG.com website:

We hope this information will be useful to you. Please do not hesitate to email us back for further assistance or for any other concerns. We’re more than happy to help you.
Feel free to contact us also via Live Chat or Phone by dialing 1-800-793-8896.
Thank you and have a blessed day!
Respectfully,
Daisy

I too said the same thing--coming from an S7 Edge and many others with wireless charging, I was in love with it. However, I rarely used my wireless charging because QuickCharge is so fast! I can bring my phone to a full charge a phone in about an hour, before bed, so I don't need to drop it on the charging pad all night. Same goes for the morning before work. I bought 10ft USB cables on aliexpress.com and because of this phone, just bought microUSB to USB-C connectors for all my cables. They had a 5-pack for $8, I'm pretty happy. Even my car charger is an Anker QC 3.0 compatible, so it charges just as quickly.
Unlike with the Samsung, it'll be nice to have a second battery for road trips. There is a big difference between swapping a second battery over carrying around a charging brick and having your phone connected while it charges slowly back up when you're sight-seeing.
At this point I guess it's unlikely that a 3rd party will make a proper sticker either - the kind that does not use the USB port. It's really unfortunate that LG dropped the ball with the back cover. I got the V20 on sale for half price, but really considering going back to Note 4 while I still can. V20 just seems like too much of a trade off in features.

Found this cover that claims to have wireless charging functionality. But their own pictures show that it's just plastic - no receiver, no contacts visible.
