The only that's stopping getting the S5 is the annoying port covers, I do not want to open the cover every time I want to charge or listen no music.
And I don't ever need to use the phone in the rain so what is the point?
Take if off then...its held in by one screw behind the back plate

Well, don't buy it then?
The cover is only on the charging port, there isn't a headphone jack cover.
You can remove it, but really it's not that inconvenient for the few times a day you'll charge.

No ****.
VERY annoying.
Totally subjective. I generally only toss the phone on a charger twice a day...to me it's not a big deal to have to move the cover two times.

Well, you have 3 options.
1) remove them through the screw
2) pull it forcefully, if you're really annoyed and mad at it
3) use a wireless charging kit
#3 will be much better in your case because you don't know when you will really need something. It's much better to have it and not use it than not to have it and need it.
does S5 have wireless capability?
Do what I do then. I got myself a wireless charger. It is comparatively slow to charge compared to wired charging. So, for any topping off charging, or when I have time, I put it on wireless charger. This reduces my need to open port less than once a week.

You can get a wireless enabled battery cover, or get a small chip from amazon that fits under standard battery cover for less than $25.

Depends a lot on the person's usage pattern too. Assuming same build quality on all phones, a person with delicate handling will take his longer than the one with rough handling. I've seen people yank the charging cables off the phones and crying when it breaks.

that's would be ****ing annoying as hell. Samsung bought an unnecessary step when charging. I charge my phone multiple times a day because I have a habit of charging when I'm at the desk because charging prevents the screen from going off and I prefer to have the phone screen on all the time because I use it as a calendar, reminder and a timer when I'm working.
That's why S5 sucks balls.
I'm waiting for the Note 4, hopefully it will not have any covers.

I bought one from an AT&T store. It works, but with some caveats. It power cycles several times when docked, before charging. I'm giving it a couple of days use before I make a decision on returning it or not.

What do you mean by power cycle? The phone? If it's the charger, what does that entail?
Also, are we talking about the official Nokia wireless charging plate here?

EDIT:
Found this piece, I'm pretty sure this is what you're talking about:
http://www.theverge.com/2012/11/16/3655014/qi-google-starbucks-compatibility-issues
In testing the Nexus 4 this week on Nokia's DT-900 Qi charging pad (the one that AT&T has been throwing in for free with purchases of the Lumia 920), our results weren't promising: the Nexus would connect, disconnect, reconnect, and disconnect once again from the charger, ad nauseam, making the "charger connected" notification sound each and every time. The charging light on the pad, meanwhile, flashed on and off in rhythm with the connections annunciated by the phone. It didn't matter how the Nexus was positioned on the pad (Qi advertises a large, forgiving charging surface as one of its benefits, coincidentally) — the two simply wouldn't work together consistently enough to get the phone charged. The pad works normally with two Lumia 920s I've tested.

Yes, though it at least for me stops, after a few cycles. The more I use it though, the fussier it seems to get....
Used my friends at work. It cycled the first time then settled. Second time phone went psycho like it was being touched but wasn't. My clock widget on lock screen would highlight, shrink, then back to normal. The third time it acted like it was fine but started cycling about a minute in.

Mine doesn't do that, it starts charging without issue when I set it down on the Nokia Plate, and the plate's light stays solidly lit until it's charged.

I bought one yesterday. It doesn't work very well at all. It flips in and out of charge depending on where you place the phone. Other times the phone will slide off the charger. I've done the micro fiber cloth of the charger to stop the slide and it will charge however it seems that it is still hit or miss. Some times if the phone is higher than 70% it will say that it's charging but the battery % never goes up.
My advice for something that costs $50 should work properly, you shouldn't have to add cloths or rubber pads to it. So i've sold mine and will wait for a proper charger designed for the nexus 4 and i'd advice everyone else to do the same.

Here you go guys. Just got the orb today. Works perfectly with the Nexus 4 and Lumia 920. The orb has a sticky back, like those GPS dash covers but it also has magnets. The Lumia and Nexus work in portrait and landscape modes without slipping.

Charges the Lumia pretty quickly, went up a few (~3-4) in the 10 minutes I had it on there. The manual says it outputs at 1000mA, which is kinda awesome.

Don't need to get a new battery door. That new Samsung door will actually be larger than the current one. Some/many cases won't fit.
Get this instead - wireless receiver that fits inside the stock battery door:

I pre-ordered the one for the S4, after it was written up on Engadget. It hasn't been released yet, apparently, so I'm still waiting.
Here's the Engadget article. Some good things said about it in the comments:

Well, I just bought it. Will review it when I receive it on the 31st.

I thought it was the battery it self that has a coil in it for the NFC and that was for charging?
if not I have my palm pre still that has that wireless charging - could I take that battery cover apart and take that coil out and just attach it to the inside of the phone
I dont see anywhere where a battery cover with this built in will connect inside like it does on the palm pre, there arent any contacts that I can see that will go to the battery charting how would this work

There are 4 contacts. 2 to the left and 2 to the right of the flash. I think the left ones are for charging. I am basically ready to do what you said but need to figure out the polarity of these contacts.

I'm hoping yours worked. I've had a qi receiver in my S3 for about 6 months now. I pulled it out to see if it would work in my S4 and it doesn't quite fit. The pad would fit, but it lays over the sim card and mSdcard, which probably wouldn't be a big deal, but the problem is the two small brass contacts don't quite fit in the square charging holes on the s4, they're probably 0.25mm too large and slightly to far apart for the S4.
My S3 pad is about 6 months old though, so hopefully the newer s3 pads have been modified to work with both phones.
I love wireless charging though and just went ahead and ordered a qi pad for my s4 from the fastech link earlier in this thread.

Yeah, it's main purpose is for the waterproof. But if you really don't mind it, then of course it's your option. That's cool.
Samsung customer service said it depends on the carrier. Some had the option to stop it, but others don't. It isn't depended on the cover. :good:
T-mobile has chose to always have the message appear.

I can't comment on the speed of in car wireless chargers as I don't have one but the wireless charger I have at home isn't that slow at all, arguably if it's in a car then it will be on charge for the duration of the journey and so the time it takes to charge becomes slightly irrelevant.
Also charge time is dependant upon the current that the receiver can draw and the current that the base can deliver. The Base and receiver combination I have can work at about 800mA and so once you take a bit off for the inefficiency of wireless charging then they're not that much slower than a mains charger. if the 5V supply from your car charger can only deliver 500mA then yup it's gonna take a while It pays to look closely into the specs of these things before parting with your hard earned as cheap usually means just that.....sorry gone off topic

I went into my carriers store yesterday to look at the s5 and xperia z2. Came out with the z2. That darn flap would annoy me to buggery.
The z2 has the magnetic port on the left side which makes it slightly better.
Not wishing to troll, I've always been a Samsung fan since the Note2 and have upgraded to the s4 and then most recently the note 3 but the s5 didn't stand out for me.
Ok the z2 hasn't got all the features of the s4 or s5 but most of which I never used anyway, and those I did I used rarely.
Maybe in 6 months I'll go back to the Note when the 4 is released lol

Haha.
Wouldnt it be nice if we could take the best bits of several phones and amalgamate them together to make the perfect phone.
There is no perfect for everyone phone out there.
I change phones every few months now, so I suppose I know if I don't get along with the z2 I will sell it on.
So far I'm liking it though... The Sony skin isn't as heavy as TW. Can't say I'm missing any of the TW features yet... I think most are nice to have features but not essential.

I haven't seen this covered and if it has been, I'd appreciate anyone posting a link to the article. Does the Note4 support wireless charging or will we have to get one of those stickers as we have to do for the Note 3?
Thanks in advance
nevermind, answered my own question, same crap. How come they can include wireless charging in the S5 but not in the Note4? Seems like they did some great stuff that seemed very basic and rushed the Note4 out without the same tech such as dust and waterproof. I don't get it.
I have been wondering the same thing. I certainly won't get one unless it has Qi charging. I am assuming they will release a wireless back cover again.

I don't want to buy another back or another "sticker". How is it other models have it built in and this, their "latest" version doesn't? This is truly a step backward in the Note series. Huawei's devices are looking very nice right now.
I wonder if the quick charging will work with wireless charging?

No. They are two separate things... a given Qi charger only puts out a limited amount of power.
Do the Huawei phones have wireless charging? After you mentioned Huawei I checked out some of their best devices but couldn't see any wireless charging options.
If it is wireless charging, does it mean it will have a magnetic back? I need that so I can stick it to my car CD slot caddy.

Wait. They included wireless charging in the s5? My wife has the s5 and I had to buy a qi back to get wireless charging. I've had to buy qi receivers for all my other phones

Lol screw wireless charging, as long as I get 50% battery charge under 30 mins, I be satisfied

^^What he said^^ and theres no way any wireless charger can do that, also given my experience with the LG G3 I am not ruling out damage to the battery or device due to overheating whilst wireless charging, my battery life on G3 perished after such time as I started using wireless charger.
I may be wrong, however, its fairly coincidental.
On a related note the pins are definitely there for wireless charging but no coil as far as I can tell.
Note 4 DOES support wireless charging with the correct door and or cheap coil which im sure will be available soon.
Glad to hear that it supports Qi charging (with add on). Since going wireless on my Note 3 I'll never plug my phone in again.
I'm pretty sure the reason the Note wasn't certified dust and water-resistant is the large long opening in it to accommodate the S-Pen.

I don't see why Samsung or any smartphone company hasn't started using the vapor/nano-coat waterproofing. It wouldn't matter how big any hole is. See HzO, P2i and others.
The day I get my Note 4 I'm sending it in to get 'vaporized'. Only ~50 bucks, totally worth it for a $1000 device that fits in your pocket.
Idk why Samsung doesn't include the wireless charging back to begin with. That way all the cases would still fit it. It's irritating to say the least.

Its 60 bucks and it says specifically on the site that its not waterproof. I can find better ways to spend 60 bucks.

Same here. I use the stock samsung wireless cover I think I got for 20 bucks for my note 3. It works great with the TYLT and I don't use usb anymore. Even when traveling I have a portable battery "ravpower" with QI built in and it works great.
Because then they couldnt charge you the $40 for a new back.

I hope you know that quick charge feature required additional purchase of an adapter and good luck finding it before or soon after release.

No it doesn't. The note 4 comes with a charger with 2 capacities. Normal and the quick charge. No need to buy any extra or new "special" charger.
