anyone else have a loose charger?

Anyone else notice there charger is super loose and barely stays in or is it just mine. It feels like the pin isn't long enough.

Yea I think its just your phone...i have 2 and they work fine...can hold it from the charger and it won't fall out.

Yes mine too, the pin is too long and does'nt go in all the way; almost a deal breaker among other things.

I don't think so, the xoom is too heavy to be held from the charger? in fact the whole charging system is a big flaw in this tablet, I am very disappointed.

Very disappointed they couldn't do a charge over USB. I was reading that the reason they can't charge over the USB port is that the batteries are so big and draw so much power to charge that the micro USB wouldn't be able to offer the throughput to charge it up fast enough.
Not sure how much I buy that, but at any rate they could've come up with a charging port combo that doesn't look like it came from a Nokia I bought 10 years ago lol.

Well it seems that the charger port and piece are affecting a few of you guys. But mine is good. No problem here. But that said, I was still pretty disappointed I couldn't use the same port as the phone.

I was upset about this at first as well but then again with essentially a 10 hour non stop usage time I will never have the charger in while using it. I also think it adds incentive to buy the Standard dock which at $39.99 isnt exactly terrible.
But still...why the dinky little charger?!

I agree. It reminds me of a phone I had years ago.

I agree, but 10 hour battery life and 100% charge in about an hour? It's a fair trade off. I agree, though, that the attachment is tiny (wouldn't say "loose," though). Better than a dock port connector, but I'd prefer something a bit more robust. Meh.

The charger on mine is horrible.
I was sketchy at best brand new, a month in and it doesn't work at all.
At first I had to fiddle with it, get the xoom at just the right angle etc to get it to charge. Now it doesn't make contact at all. I didn't return it right away because I heard some of the issues, but figured it did work just not well.
Once it crapped out completely it was past my 30 return window.
I ended up buying the charging dock. This works fine and the "road charger' that came with it works fine (so far) as well. I am thinking of just throwing in my gimpy charger in the box and returning the dock as it is pretty over priced and i feel a bit miffed that i had to pan an additional $50 just to charge my xoom.

Does the Note4 support wireless charging?

I haven't seen this covered and if it has been, I'd appreciate anyone posting a link to the article. Does the Note4 support wireless charging or will we have to get one of those stickers as we have to do for the Note 3?

nevermind, answered my own question, same crap. How come they can include wireless charging in the S5 but not in the Note4? Seems like they did some great stuff that seemed very basic and rushed the Note4 out without the same tech such as dust and waterproof. I don't get it.

I have been wondering the same thing. I certainly won't get one unless it has Qi charging. I am assuming they will release a wireless back cover again.

I don't want to buy another back or another "sticker". How is it other models have it built in and this, their "latest" version doesn't? This is truly a step backward in the Note series. Huawei's devices are looking very nice right now.

No. They are two separate things... a given Qi charger only puts out a limited amount of power.

Do the Huawei phones have wireless charging? After you mentioned Huawei I checked out some of their best devices but couldn't see any wireless charging options.

If it is wireless charging, does it mean it will have a magnetic back? I need that so I can stick it to my car CD slot caddy.

Wait. They included wireless charging in the s5? My wife has the s5 and I had to buy a qi back to get wireless charging. I've had to buy qi receivers for all my other phones

^^What he said^^ and theres no way any wireless charger can do that, also given my experience with the LG G3 I am not ruling out damage to the battery or device due to overheating whilst wireless charging, my battery life on G3 perished after such time as I started using wireless charger.
I may be wrong, however, its fairly coincidental.
On a related note the pins are definitely there for wireless charging but no coil as far as I can tell.

Note 4 DOES support wireless charging with the correct door and or cheap coil which im sure will be available soon.

I'm pretty sure the reason the Note wasn't certified dust and water-resistant is the large long opening in it to accommodate the S-Pen.

I don't see why Samsung or any smartphone company hasn't started using the vapor/nano-coat waterproofing. It wouldn't matter how big any hole is. See HzO, P2i and others.
The day I get my Note 4 I'm sending it in to get 'vaporized'. Only ~50 bucks, totally worth it for a $1000 device that fits in your pocket.

Idk why Samsung doesn't include the wireless charging back to begin with. That way all the cases would still fit it. It's irritating to say the least.

Its 60 bucks and it says specifically on the site that its not waterproof. I can find better ways to spend 60 bucks.

Same here. I use the stock samsung wireless cover I think I got for 20 bucks for my note 3. It works great with the TYLT and I don't use usb anymore. Even when traveling I have a portable battery "ravpower" with QI built in and it works great.

Because then they couldnt charge you the $40 for a new back.

No it doesn't. The note 4 comes with a charger with 2 capacities. Normal and the quick charge. No need to buy any extra or new "special" charger.

I have to believe it is something like the Tylt Vu. It has three coils and is quite tall.

This mod makes me happy as I wait for my N5X to be delivered but that theme just brings back a memory from the only time I've shedded a tear in a video game.

very interesting... Still really risky, you will have to void the warranty to do this and if you don't shield the heat or if the wire touches something wrong it could brick. Just be careful guys. Zsnaps is a safer alternative that makes charging simple. Wish they would ship already

Why can't someone make a bumper case for the 5X that incorporates a Qi charging coil and plugs into the USB socket? I think there are auxiliary batteries for some phones like that. That would work for me.

Agreed. And (surprising to me) not everyone likes wireless charging. I hope the intersection of the two (and the 5x community) is big enough to warrant market attention.

I'm pretty sure you hit the nail on the head here.

It wouldn't have been as bad if they'd just said that, but the bull****ting about thickness as an excuse is not cool.

after further testing with the mod. i am indeed able to charge wirelessly up to 100% from 0%. i measured the wireless charging current and it seems to range from 100-500ma charge rate. a typical charger ranges from 1000-2500ma charge rate.
regardless, its a working mod so far.
i need to refine the wiring to layout to make it a bit more appealing before i offer it as a modding service.

Awesome news. Looking forward to potentially doing this mod myself!

I bought this for my Nexus 7. Yep it is the largest one, you can even buy it from a Verizon store.

Can anyone comment on the wireless charging time with the mod compared to the wireless charging time on the older Nexus 5 which had it built in?

To answer my own question form my last post. "Even the more expensive Qi modules appear to charge slower than the factory built in modules". Not sure what the reason for would be? Or people do not realize they are buying lower powered (yet more expensive) modules. Most posts I have seen refer to 500mAh modules

Those damn cheap microusb to usb-c connectors and cheap large voltage chargers .. sheesh. I've had no trouble with mine but then again I have quality chargers and cables I bought for my 6P. My Note 7 doesn't even get warm when charging .. at least nothing noticeable.

Turn off fast charging in settings, problem solved.

It's not that it's unapproved. It's that they are using cheap cables and chargers. We went through this crap with the OnePlus3 and Nexus 6P. Cheap chargers and cables can do damage.

Well, from the looks of it. Even Anker who is pretty reliable issued a recall for almost all their usb-c cables.

You're probably right. My Note 7 gets pretty warm when using fast-charge. And batteries don't like heat. So, since I don't really need fast-charge when I charge my phone most of the time, I turned it off. Phone no longer gets warm when charging.
Besides, batteries will last longer without excessive fast-charging.

I use these with my Note 7 and Nexus 6P. Unless I just got lucky and got 6 good cables .. I use them everywhere .. work, car (Android Auto) and home .. then these are good. I highly doubt a USB-C cable that works brilliantly with the Nexus 6P would fry the Note 7. I've had mine for 12 days and when I hook the Note 7 up in my truck for AA it's charging as well and it never gets much warmer than if it were on the wireless Samsung charger.

Maybe something is wrong with yours. My Note 7 has been sitting on the Samsung wireless charger on my desk at 100% for the last hour. Since all this has made me paranoid .. I pick it up every so often and touch it to my face. It's not even lukewarm. I don't think fast charging is the issue with this. The guy in China who reported this which later was picked up on Reddit .. his cable was just some black microusb cable with a while adapter on it and no further info. If the cable was a piece of crap and he was using a cheap wall charger .. Samsung adapter or not I think this was the cause of the boom. I could be wrong but I don't think so. Like said about .. the usb-c cable/charger subject was discussed to death about the OnePlus3 and Nexus 6P (Macbook as well) .. and it's always the same thing. Don't use cheap junk. :good:

If your phone is at 100%, then it's not charging. Therefore, it won't be warm. When the battery gets low, 30-40% and it's on fast-charge, it gets very warm. I don't know about the wireless charger, but it's warm with the cable. Either way, I disabled fast-charge and no more warmth.

Are we far away from FW update limiting charge current? I turned off fast charging due to phone getting hot, which is not healthy for batteries, especially if those are hard to replace and I charge overnight anyway, but on some occasion I could be in rush to charge and fast charging is the solution and I want fast charge as option, but if things go like that, the easiest fix for Samsung would be to eliminate fast charge for now.

All phones should get warm while fast charging. S7 Edge did the same thing, so did the nexus 6p.
I charge mine with fast charging every single time.

If that cable delivers 20 volts designed for PC, to the phone designed for 9v max, that would double the amperage and quadruple total power drawn, I can easily see how that could burn the whole phone to crisp.
Going back to fast charge on N7, I'm sure it's well designed and the heat well within specs (it's even mentioned in manual), but the fact remains that higher operating temp of battery, the lower (slightly) life span of the battery. With battery sealed inside and rather difficult to replace I want to prolong it's life to maximum and if I charge overnight, which I do often, don't care if it even takes 6hrs. BTW if the faulty cable is the real culprit, it's a very good news and shipping of N7 should resume soon. It would be shame if such a good phone got bad reputation undeserved.

Actually, it's not. It was reported on quite a few sites that Samsung sourced the battery packs locally for it's variations. So the South Korean company that made the battery packs for the South Korean release is the one that is possibly the cause of all this hoopla. The few handsets out of the millions produced that have had issues with these crap cables and chargers have been in South Korea. None of the EU/NorthAm phones have been reported to have had this happen at all. Maybe unnamed sources that aren't Samsung themselves should be taken with a grain of salt. Maybe we should wait for an official statement from Samsung before running in circles and screaming the sky is falling. It's a thought.
I'm not saying it couldn't be a massive, global recall but based on the 30+ articles I've read .. most of which messaged to me by my iPhone owning friends .. this seems like a bad batch in South Korea. I had a gasket issue on my motorcycle that was part of a recall .. will I stop buying that brand because of it. No. And before you start talking about fire and explosions .. oil spewing out of a gasket onto a tire while doing 70mph ... same thing.

Wireless chargers

Would you recomend any non samsung made wireless charger? i dont really want to fu** up my battery. So what do you think? should i get only a samsung made or thats doesnt really matters as long its compatible and charging my phone?

This is the one I use for quick-charging. It worked really well with the S8+ and so far is working with the S9+. The only drawback is you have to use your Samsung wall plug that came with the phone, the charger does not come with one.

It should work with any wall plug, but it may not do the quick charge, unless it has the 2A output.

I'm looking for a charger that has USB-C. Reviewers seem to enjoy the new Anker Powerwave (links below). It includes a wall adapter, which reflects the high price. However it seems to only be available in the us (thus us adapter) atm.

It should work with any of the following standards:
Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 or above
Samsung adaptive FastCharge

I just use the Samsung Quick Qi charger that I got for my S7. Amazon Link Used it also for my S8 and now I'm using it for the S9+ and it still works great.

Does anyone know what's the max current s9+ accept for wireless charging? 7.5W, 10W or 15W??

You need a charger that supports Quick Charge, I think, not just 2A output.

You can get the official samsung fast charge convertible one used for 30. Way better than those knock off ones. I have had my refurb one for 2 years now and works great

Thats kinda expensive, so I don't see any reason why to bother with Amazon, while you can buy from local store just a little bit more expensive, and you don't need to wait weeks or even month.

Prime members can have it in two days flat. Fyi students can get prime for $49 a year, a good deal if you use amazon alot and also includes movies.

I've bought 4 off Amazon over the years from Seneo. They've always been great and offer a few different designs. Usually between $20-35 depending if you need the QC 2.0/3.0 adapter or not.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother. For the last 12 months of my S7 Edge life the wireless charger sat gathering dust. It's a bit of a fad in all honesty. It's no more convenient then plugging in really and sometimes less convenient as you manouvere the device around to hit the sweet spot. Now we have USB C connection its so easy to plug in.
Only plus side to wireless is it saves on wear and tear on the charging socket. If you're picking your phone up and back down again a lot then wireless is beneficial. But if its for say, bedside and charging over night while sleeping, may as well just plug it in.

Why would you say it's no more convenient? You might say it's only a little more convenient, which may be not enough for you.

If I'm in my bed and go to sleep after reading on my phone I'm already half asleep. The only thing I have to do is put it on the cradle.
Without one I need to search the cable with my left hand in the dark, plug it in (which was hard to do with my Nexus 6) and lay it down. Sometimes I'm too tired already and just lay it down hoping to be able to charge it in the morning. At work i will have a place to put it down..
It was in fact the deal breaker when I had too decide between this phone and the Pixel 2 XL.
My Nexus 6 ate USB cables... I don't know if it was just my Nexus or all of them. My Nexus 6 fell from the bathroom sink last Sunday and now I'm glad I can move to USB-C which was the connector we should have had all this time. How they could have made such a bad successor of the mini-USB I still can't understand. Hopefully my expectations of the USB-C will meet up....

I'm just saying with USB C its not an issue plugging it in, you don't need to orientate the connector. The wireless pad, half the time you would place it down and because it was slightly off you had to rotate or manouevre the phone until it started charging.
If you think it'll be more convenient to you, go for it. I'm just saying I was excited and believed it would be for me too when I got the S7 Edge but as I say, for the last twelve months I never used the wireless charger.

Wireless charging is a tradeoff for convenience. I picked up a wireless car charger at Walmart. Forget the brand offhand but it was about 50 bucks. It did do wireless fast charge and comes with its own plug / cable.
Doing delivery driving, not plugging and unplugging my phone 40 or 50 times a day is certainly awesome. However, streaming music over blue tooth and running the GPS will only marginally charge it, so over the course of a night I lose battery. Just something to think about.
