If it ain't broken, don't fix it, I have never actually tried ODIN v3.09 but v3.04 and even 1.85 still work well. And you can flash that through PDA in those versions of ODIN.
However if you must use ODIN v3.09, use 'AP' option and place that file you mentioned there. Cheers!

Here you find the how to for flashing with Odin ( post 1 ) You only need the tar.
Pda in Odin 3.09 is AP

That's not the complete firmware. Go to sammobile.com. You'll download a zip and extract the .tar.md5 file from it. You'll flash that in Odin.

Are you able to flash any other stock firmware via ODIN? Also try flashing with ODIN 3.09

Hello,
I haven't tried to flash any other firmware.
I bought the phone in hong kong and the old firmaware was:
Product Code: TGY
PDA: N9005ZHUBMI7
CSC: N9005ZZHBMI7
MODEM: N9005XXUBMI5
When I tried to flash the new firmware I got the following DOIN error:
ODIN: ext4 image file failed.
I'm downloading the BMI7 firmware as it is the old one.
I'll try to flash an MJ7 before.
Thank you.

Every time when i flash the device with odin i just use the file firmware tar.md5 in AP
No need to specify other, but you can try if your problem persists, :-$
You have been tried a custom rom or just tried a simple update stock rom on your device?

Hi again,
look, for your device TGY in sammobile have a firmware MK1 of 10 November 2013 maybe you try to download once this is the latest firmware for your country device
and try one more time, i no longer more ideas, but you can try, unzip the file and put in AP in v3.09 Odin or use the v1.85 Odin and put the file in PHONE. (Flash reset time and auto reboot ticked)
Here is the link in sammobile

Hi Guys,
I downloaded the latest stock rom TGY MK1
It worked fine.
I wonder if there is any possibility to flash some european roms.
What is important now is that I have my phone working.
Thank you very much.

[Q] How to go from Baseband MDJ to MK6?

I'm running Goldeneye 8.0, 4.2.2. I'm looking to update to new MK6 baseband so I can flash goldeneye with kitkat but when I flash MK6 through mobile Odin, I get an error saying that memory is protected or something like that. Can anyone help with this?
I had the same issue when flashing with mobile odin. I ended up using Odin to flash the modem. Only difference is that I was on stock 4.2.2 with MG1 baseband.
Modem files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2324667
ODIN download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738841
Instructions:
Unzip contents to your computer.
Put your phone into download mode
Open Odin
Connect your phone to your computer
Place modem .bin file in PHONE section
make sure to untick autoreboot
flash
Reboot
I'd recommend checking if you have the latest drivers as well. Also check the 'Modem files' thread I linked above - seems like some people are having the same issue with i337m

Thanks for the reply, I've come to find out that you have to be on a stock rom to flash baseband, that's why it wasn't working for me before.
Perfect that's good to know if a new baseband gets released.

Help please fast

Hey guys,
I installed xtrestolite on my G900F and changed the bootloader and modem of my device before installing it. First problem i had was with CSC. It is a single CSC and i couldn't install my countries CSC on it. That's why i went back to stock. I installed Kit Kat firmware that i downloaded from sammobile and then changed CSC to my countries CSC. Then i updated firmware to lollipop using Kies3. But installing stock rom didn't change bootloader version or modem version. Now i have kitkat bootloader version, kitkat baseband version and lollipop firmware version all different and i want to them all to be the same(latest lollipop). Is there any way to do this without downloading stock rom from sammobile again ? And if not, then can i just put the tar.md5 file that i will download from sammobile in bootloader, pda and CP at the same time and install with odin ?
Thanks in advance !
You do not need to re-download or re-install your ROM. You need to download your bootloader and radio from somewhere, then flash those with ODIN.
Just an FYI, the modem doesn't always like to stick so you may need to flash (auto-reboot disabled), pull the battery after odin says "success", then flash again immediately.

Hey thanks for the tip ! I just downloaded stock firmware but i don't know how to extract bootloader and modem from tar.md5 file and then make them odin flashable. I uploaded image with all the files that are in my tar.md5 file. What of these are for bootloader and what for modem and how do i make them odin flashable later ?
Thanks in advance
