[Q] G2 Gmail app can't attach files - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else noticed Gmail app in G2 can't attach files ?
I only see options to attach video or picture.

It doesn't matter, you can still add any file using picture option

I tried using video/picture they only allow pic/video to be uploaded nothing else. can you show me a screenshot how its possible?

I think the G2 is not a problem but the Gmail application does not have that option

Try this. Download an app such as Astro File Manager or ES File Explorer. Then, choose either attach a video or picture (in your case, a file) you should have an option to choose it from either of those 2 apps. Choose that app, find the appropriate folder and then select the file.

Oh.. I tried it last night and I could attach other files, I did only try .zip files though. I'll have another go
Edit. Read post above, I was using es explorer to select file which probably made it possible

Thx. Es file manager solved the problem. The Gmail app on my gnexus is completely different from g2. Design and layout is lot better with more options

Where to find an apk file.

I have the original "fancy widget" app. I can't find the download file that I originally had. Where can I find that file to send it to someone? I looked in root explorer in the app folder but I don't see it? Any ideas?

Are you talking about the genie widget? I uploaded all .apks I had from a rom that took them out. Take a look if you want.

Could it possibly be under /data/app?
It's not under data/app. I don't know why...
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA Premium App
Maybe /system/app? Or wait, you know it wont be called fancywidgets.apk or whatever the app was right? It should be called something like, but don't hold me to this, com.Android.fancywidgets or something along those lines
Hey thanks jmoney. It was under data/apps. I was looking under system/apps before. I found it. Thanks again!

Rooted but still cant delete a ringtone?

Hi I have a rooted n7 stock 4.1.2, I can't seem to delete a ringtone "hangout_dingtone.m4a" I am using ES File Exploer with SU permissions. Every time I delete it and reboot my n7 the files come back. The file is one file but when done a search shows up in two places, if I rename it in one place it renames in the other place as well. The files are located in /data/media/notification/hangout_dingtone.m4a and /storage/sdcard0/notification/ hangout_dingtone.m4a is there any way I can delete it from both locations? The reason why I want this done is because they show up multiple times in the default sounds menu.

That's because they are exactly the same location!
Just delete it from sdcard.

Youd think it would go away, but after a reboot there it is back in the folder. /sdcard/notification
any other way you can think of?

/system/media/audio/ringtones

Ok, I deleted both hangout ring/ding tone files from notifications. Rebooted the phone and ding is back again.
Based on the name, it belongs to Google+, so I would say the app reinstalls the file if it is deleted.
Either leave the file alone or try freezing/uninstalling Google+.

How would you suggest I freeze google plus app?

CyanogenMod gallery app shows grey boxes, not pictures and videos.

I have the latest CM installed and I still the problem with the gallery app. The app shows the album names and albums but I can't see the pictures and videos in any album, I just see grey square boxes. This has been a problem in the past few nightlies too, does anyone else experience the same problem?
If you have a solution, please help.
LG-D802 CM nightly 5th November.

A point to note that I can see all the pics and videos when I swipe to the right in the camera app, it's the gallery app that doesn't work.

Download Facebook videos

Hey all. Until recently every time i tried to view a video using the Facebook app i would get a pop-up menu, from Es file manager app i think, which gave me the option to download it or view it with mxplayer or with the native viewer etc. It also had two options to use this choice once or all time. For some time now this menu hasn't been appearing at all. Any idea how to restore it please? I run rastakat 4.4.2. Thanks

You can go into the said apps defaults then change them. For example settings / apps / scroll to mx player then clear the defaults at the bottom of the page. I think this is what you mean.

Notification bug workaround

Hi,
Fresh new owner of the phone, I'm also concerned by the "bug" (if it can be called a bug) of the stuttering notification sound.
I did a quick fix of it, just by modifying the sound file and adding a blank in the begining of the sound.
You can find attached a modified "notification" sound that fix the stuttering for me.
To use it, copy the file in any place of the phone (I put it in root of sdcard) and then select it in notification sound menu, hit the quaver symbol in upper right corner and find it in the "Xperia" artist name, sound name should be "Notification_mod".
Enjoy
With the attachment.
Thanks, I use my own mp3 notifications, but just added a 'blank' to the beginning as you recommended and voila no stutter, lol

I just cut and appended less than a second of blank audio to the beginning of my chosen notification mp3 file.
I used an old version of sony soundforge i had on my desktop, but should be lots of free audio editing software available i imagine?

great idea man, thanks!
one thing though: the file you posted isn't silent at the start - it's like an echo in reverse. i thought it was a bug - like the phone was doing something weird playing two notifications...
anyway i made my own and it works great cheers man
Just tried it out, great idea thanks.
