Hi I have a rooted n7 stock 4.1.2, I can't seem to delete a ringtone "hangout_dingtone.m4a" I am using ES File Exploer with SU permissions. Every time I delete it and reboot my n7 the files come back. The file is one file but when done a search shows up in two places, if I rename it in one place it renames in the other place as well. The files are located in /data/media/notification/hangout_dingtone.m4a and /storage/sdcard0/notification/ hangout_dingtone.m4a is there any way I can delete it from both locations? The reason why I want this done is because they show up multiple times in the default sounds menu.

That's because they are exactly the same location!
Just delete it from sdcard.

Youd think it would go away, but after a reboot there it is back in the folder. /sdcard/notification
any other way you can think of?

Ok, I deleted both hangout ring/ding tone files from notifications. Rebooted the phone and ding is back again.
Based on the name, it belongs to Google+, so I would say the app reinstalls the file if it is deleted.
Either leave the file alone or try freezing/uninstalling Google+.

How would you suggest I freeze google plus app?

ok so this started this past week. I get an email and I read and delete it on my phone. later on, I go back in the gmail app and in the top left corner by "inbox" it says I have a new email, however I don't actually have a new email...when I check the gmail mobile site it shows the same email I read and deleted earlier, as unread and not deleted...
does anyone else experience this/know what I can do to fix it?

uninstall the app and reinstall it from the market.
well I can't uninstall it fully (at least not from the market) but I uninstalled updates and then updated so I'll see how that goes

The same thing has happened to me. I'm on cm7 nightly 11.

I'm on stock 2.3.3 rooted. but it also happened when I tried cm7 nightly 12.

Make sure your syncing is on. I had this problem, turned on background syncing and it was fixed. Hope that helps.
that was the first thing I checked haha. I have background data and auto sync both enabled though.

Happens to me all the time. I use gmail unread widget to view only unread mail to find the offending message

ADB / Root Explorer and delete Gmail.apk in /system/app/
I know that (sorry not trying to sound like an arrogant ass) so far uninstalling updates has worked though.

Can anyone confirm if there is a quick way to add the stock ICS browser back onto the nexus 7 without having to root? Thx

Erm
You can just check install apps from unknown sources in the security part of your settings. On a side note, please watch this video...

Thanks for the link to the video:thumbup:
After searching it looks like nobody has successfully installed the stock ICS browser on the n7 without having to root the device.
I'll just start getting used to chrome then

When I copy and paste text from gmail, using either the app, or the browser, the bold formatting is lost. This is so even if I paste back into gmail. Anyone know a way round it?

I tried several times in the browser with no issues
Really? Just to be clear, I do mean gmail on the Nexus. I didn't state that explicitly as this is a Nexus forum. Bold is fine on the desktop. If you do mean on the Nexus, What did you do? I'm running stock 4.2.2 rooted. When I receive an email with bold text it displays, but I can't specify bold when creating, and when I copy and paste using the standard method- long press and position beginning and end points - the formatting is lost.
thanks
Nick

I was browsing through my files using astro and I noticed I had three folders all of which have the same files/folders in them while also being the same size (6.9gb). I was curious if anyone knows which one is safe to delete? They are wasting space on my nexus 7 that I would like to free up. Or are they mandatory for the device to function?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
You're seeing the same stuff, it's not taking up 3 times the space. For Christ sake don't delete from any of the locations as you'll be deleting your stuff.

OK thank you. Do you happen to know why it does that?

Hey that's confusing, because when I view the files in Astro it says that I have 10.79GB in /storage and 3.60 in /storage/sdcard0, /storage/emulated/legacy and /storage/eumated/0 respectively. It looks like it's being duplicated.
Guys I've inadvertantly disabled the above app but for the life of me a can't find it to re-enable it any idea where I should be looking

Tried but its not in there

If it's disabled, it won't be in alphabetical order with your other apps. It will be at the very end of the list.
In the settings menu it is named Contacts.

Re-Check, the name might be. Contacts or it may be on the end of the list
If it's not, then try re-installing your rom or you can manually push the apk to /system/app/
thanks for all the help guys ive sorted it now
Same problem with People App

How did you sort it out? I installed Overstock rom on my nexus 4 and after that I am unable to add contact. I cleared data from Settings->Apps-> Contact storage , still no luck.. Can you please explain what steps you took to sort it out.
