I wanted to go back to stock with my note 3 after root and safestrap. OTA would not work even flashing back to stock through Odin left behind custom symbol at the Samsung screen but updating through Verizon worked with no issues no faild updates. while doing this I noticed a series of numbers and letters going on during the Verizon update process. with no real knowledge of how anything works admittedly I feel like the correspondence during Verizon update via computer may help someone who knows what to do with the information

Ok guys, I have decided I want the Galaxy S 4 and ordered it but its on back order from AT&T but I want to know all there is about it before I get it. Coming from a HTC One X and very new to Samsung I need direction to the links of what to do with it. I know its new and little info about it, but I need to learn the GS4 before its in hands. I have read about all I can find but its mostly a hit and miss with the reviews so far.
After I get used to it and see the installed software I want to unlock it, and flash away with the customs like the HTC I have but I don't know where to start.
I need to know what or where to look for the ATT version of the GS4, is it a I9505 or a I9500 or what? From the order at ATT all I get is Samsung 1337, so what is it?
If you want to flash roms I'd wait for now the bootloader on the at&t version is locked. I'd say wait and look up and learn about the device. Then if/when the bootloader is unlocked you will know what you are doing. The i9505 is the international snapdragon and LTE version of the phone. The i9500 is the international no LTE octa core version. The at&t one is snapdragon and has LTE bands for AT&T.

this is exactly right. I am waiting myself for the fine people of XDA to unlock the bootloader
OP, the AT&T model is not 1337 it is SGH-i337. All you can do when you get it is freeze all AT&T software except Contacts - do not freeze Contacts as that will disable your dialer/phone.

Ok, I was just going off the order on the ATT site, all it gave for information was Samsung Galaxy 1337, I didn't know which is which for the model or ?. Is there a specific forum for the the ATT ? When I search my model I keep coming back to this forum. Are they all combined or separate like the HTC forums? I agre with the posts and all I have found so far is rooting the phone and no actual custom roms. I have been messing with the HTC One X and got it down pat , like you say, I need to learn all there is to know but don't know where to look.

There is an AT&T forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2257 here. There are no custom roms for this device because of the bootloader. You cant add a custom kernel/recovery/rom. You can root the device though. I'd look at the guides on this and the AT&T forum.

Ok, been reading all I can find and went for it. Ordered the GS4 on Monday and to be delivered today Wednesday , going to be out of town for 3 days but it should be here when I get back if my wife don't open it up and steal it from me. I hope the devs come up with something for this phone and make it easy to root and I get to learn Samsung like the HTC One X my wife gets now .

Its already rooted, but you wont be running custom roms for a while. As your bootloader is locked. This stops you from installing any.
I didn't know if any of the ATT PREORDERED NOTE 3's were out yet or not - but am curioius to find out if ATT is going to lock the bootloader for this phone like they did for the S4?
I think it is inevitable, but I was hoping that maybe they wouldn't be
If this is in the wrong forum for this, let me mknow or have the moderator delete this - I looked and couldn't find any other threads for the NOTE 3.
Anyone?
PS - if the bootler is locked for the ATT Varient - I was thinking of buying an unlocked phone - any difference between the N9000 and N9005?
99% its going to be locked. Makes me want to wait for Nexus 5. To much of a headache for Samsung.

I loved my NOTE 2 - got the S4 for the processor and camera - and want the Note 3 for the same reasons. The LOCKED BOOTLOADER thing is a bunch of crap - and it was a sad day when ATT started doing it. I doubt they will ever change policy, but I sure wish they would. It's one thing to lock a contract phone..I think I can understand their reasons for wanting to do that - but if I OWN the device - what business do they have preventing me from using it fully? arghh....oh well, fingers crossed we are both wrong - but I think your assessment was correct.
It's already been confirmed as locked by designgears. Great developer btw. Do a search. Also, look at the dev section cwm thread. Notice which models are missing? Att and Verizon.

T-mobile note 3 working on AT&T as in LTE as well? 3g should work without any issue I would think.
If so it would make perfect sense to purchase a t-mobile n3 outright just for the unlocked bootloader.
Yes, LTE as well. Full compatability. Along with a few extra bands. Just need to confirm this week with a real device.

Now for some shipping confirmation!!!!! I'm right with you!!!! Come on Negri!!!
rooted, recovered, and rebooted from the ol' i777.......
So what does the future look like for the N900A? Does the locked bootloader mean the only way to obtain root access will be through an exploit someone may eventually stumble upon? Will it most likely never be flashable, or is anything a possibility at this point? I have one on preorder and it's feeling like more of a downgrade all the time...

It's basically the same situation as the AT&T S4 with the newest knox firmware. Most likely an exploit found on that will also work on the AT&T note 3. I don't think anything is 100% secure but it may be a long time till one is found. I don't know if safestrap can be adapted or not. As far as flashing roms it depends on how much the phone is locked down but in the past if it was using a signed kernel then a custom rom could be flashed as long as it kept the stock kernel. You can be sure though that some very talented people are working on it. It's just a waiting game at this point.

We achieved root on June 15, 2014. I'm pretty sure that was the same time as the AT&T version.
We have not unlocked the bootloader.
Check out the Development subforum and you'll see we only have a small handful of developers going. They are wonderfully talented/dedicated, but a small group.
But keep in mind - this is the S5. The S6 could be totally different, with either TONS of development or none at all. Or it could be very similar. Each phone is different and it's just a matter of what catches on. You won't know until after it's out.

i hear you guys and even if the s6 would never get root i think i can live with that as long as there would be reasonable timed updates. the main reason for me to root would be to flash a rom that has a new update that a stock ota would take months behind.
i think sunday i will get my answer when we will see the specs on both m9 and s6 and would just have to make up my mind.

Looks like you may be charging that thing for a while, then. Seems that even the T-Mobile version is subject to the plague that is the locked bootloader for right now. Hopefully someone can figure something out or Samsung releases something along the lines of HTC's bootloader unlock for us. For once, the Snapdragon appears to be more crippled than the Exynos.

I understand everyone being upset about the latest development but some need to calm down a bit. Not saying it's anyone in this thread though some comments are a bit over the top. Maybe some people are new around here or others have the memory of a goldfish but this isn't' the first time this has happened to a device. There are a multitude of ways around this. Motorola who is known for locking bootloaders with almost a hatred for consumers, was defeated with the combined effort of many people on XDA. They managed to find the key to unlock the bootloader and it was smooth sailing from there.
Will we obtain the key? Quite possibly. we'll either do it the hard way and get lucky running a program on multiple computers and phones to decrypt it. The other option is that it'll be leaked by an internal source (probably the most likely). Samsung might even give us a dev program to unlock it similar to HTC. The fact is Samsung doesn't want a large customer base to be this unhappy. We are the most influential consumer base as well. Think of all the changes and additions to Android over the past few years. Changes that started here first and were adopted by manufacturers. They use us and in a way, need us to show them what people want. Let's not forget that XDA is the most influential Android site on the net. If Samsung gets snuffed here badly it'll spread very quickly.
TL;DR It'll happen one way or another guys. Chill out. May not be in the time frame we're use to these days (remember waiting weeks to months for root back in the day?) but it will happen. focus on pressuring those who can exact change into doing so. For the ones capable of it you should focus on ways around this.
I for one am not worried. I had a Motorola Defy that had a locked bootloader. By the time I had bought the phone though it had been out for a few months and people had found a way to put custom roms on it so I was happy.

How does Samsung pay or Google wallet work? How would I know which retailer supports it?

This thread should be completely deleted.
All,
Due to the recent accidental leak of Samsung eMMC vendor commands allowing write to protected eMMC areas, we are now able to write CID values on production devices.
Beaups has written an awesome tool called 'SamsungCID' (found here: https://github.com/beaups/SamsungCID). This makes the process all teh simpler!
I have built this tool from his source, and used it on a multitude of devices that use a Samsung eMMC. It works without flaw on the Moto G (Second Generation), Galaxy S5 (VZW/ATT, though, ATT doesn't have a Developer Edition that I am aware of), and many, many others.
How does this apply to you?
The Note Edge uses a Samsung eMMC (I believe, no teardown I can find definitively says so), and has a Developer Edition. This means that it is (most likely) vulnerable to this exploit.
How can I help this progress?
I need a few thing to make this work:
- A few testers with Production devices, and root (temp-root should work fine) -- I will contact these people individually, do not ask here to test.
- One person with a Developer Edition that has root (need an aboot dump, and them to run one command).
If any of you know of someone with a Developer Edition, please get them in contact with me. I can be reached on Hangouts, or on Telegram (@npjohnson).
PLEASE do not post your CID publicly.
Me again, unfortunately the seller didn't have the aboot backup of my Dev Ed Edge.
I'm fairly certain the one on my device is locked, but I can try to get you a copy of it after work.
Like I said, I have permanent root, just no bootloader write access so no custom recovery/firmware. I'm stuck on 5.0.1 BOJ7
I take it progress is at a standstill?
I'm really hoping for a breakthrough. One way or another. Please dont feel like noone is interested, because this guy sure is.

The Verizon edition of this phone was and still is very unpopular. The release date kept getting pushed back and the Edge seemed like an experiment IMO. I thought it would be a liability. I got this phone for free by dumb luck thru a Verizon error. If it was up to me I would have just gotten the note 4. But i have no money for full price phones to keep grandfathered data plans so this was a godsent miracle. I digress.
This is a charity project i presume. I doubt its very hard but theres not much (or any) reward for the developer who feels like throwing us a bone. Im sure npjohnson has a paypal link for gratuities. Just sayin.

I've tried a couple times now using NewKingrootV4.85_C139_B255_en_release_2016_03_29_1 05203.apk which is the one being used on the Note 4 prior to converting to DE and have been unsuccessful. I'm not sure if its just because of the instability or if I need to be on a different version of android.
