I have a rooted stock ROM LG G2 on VZ. I rooted only so that I could de-bloat the unit.
I must have gotten carried away although I'm not entirely sure how. I do not have a custom recovery on this unit (dumb, I know) yet.
In short, I have done every single thing I can find to get my Google Calendar to display. It works fine on my Galaxy Nexus. I've done complete resets of the G2 handset I think 3 times now based on solutions I've been able to find. Others have reported this problem and "fixed" it but with no details as to the fix. I did get rid of the stock LG Calendar App and that may have precipitated this issue but I cannot be sure.
If I go into settings--accounts--tap on Google at the top is says "Sync error" and at the bottom of the screen it says "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly" If I tap on the account it brings up the list of Data & Synchronization items for my Google account. Calendar is not listed. From what I can tell all other aspects of my Google account are syncing without issue.
I'd appreciate any ideas or suggestions.
Not unique to your situation
I have a Galaxy SII, also flashed, and Google Calendar worked fine for over a year. Now I get nothing sync'd to my Calendar and I get exactly the same error messages you are getting.

I have had this same issue, and I think the cause of it is from Joining accounts in the address book. I got rid of the issue by removing and re adding my Google Account, but once I started joining accounts together so that there would only be on entry the same thing happened. I do not have any other way to get my google contacts to re sync without an error.

*** edit - title is supposed to say No Full Gmail Contacts Sync **
Ok it's taken me a while to notice this as i've had the phone plenty long enough now, but it was only yesterday I needed to add a contact and found that if I select the option to add to Google Contacts it doesn't actually save them. I've tried multiple times and NOTHING. The phone is able to sync DOWN fine but seemingly cannot sync up. Sadly it seems Samsungs incompetent software tweekers have struck again.
Can anyone else verify if this is the case with all Galaxy S firmware at the moment?
So frustrating; really starting to wish Samsung would just have made this phone a STOCK phone like HTC.did with things like the Magic.
Not the case for me. I have flashed and reflashed a hundred times and when I add a contact, it stays and comes back after a flash through google sync.

What particular firmware are you running? It tells me the contact has saved but then when I look through my phonebook the contact isn't there. Try adding one now to your Google account and report back.if you don't mind.
Darkstriker, can you log into your google account to see if all your contacts are listed there? Is it possible that contacts are synced, but they don't necessarily need to show up under the google account?
They aren't showing up on my phone book or online in my Google contacts, even though it says they're saved.
It could be that im running a custom rom, cant remember the name of it but its the main one that isn't SAMSET!
The main one that isn't samset... gotta love that statement.
Anyways: I may be a problem with your customROM. I am using JM2. I just added one and it shows up in contacts on phone and I'm guessing it will take some time to show up in gmail.

Im sorry I'm VERY hung over!
I haven't seen anyone else mention those, and I've tried reverting back to an older backup I had, but still seeing the same issue. Basically, I see the "sync symbol" up in the notifications bar show up and stay there forever. I check in "Accounts" under settings, and the bottom left button says "Cancel sync." Now I've tried removing all of my accounts, but still doesn't help. As far as I can tell things are still working properly and no noticeable battery drain is occurring.
Ideas? Should I just do a factory wipe on it?
I'm currently running the Netarchy Froyo (just the initial official release he posted), along with his 3.7.7 kernel. No other issues.
I had this same kind of issue. The fix that worked for me and was a lot better than factory reset was this:
Go to settings->applications->manage apps->all. Then select all of the gmail, calendar, and calendar storage apps and clear their data. I didn't have to do it for Contacts storage app, but if the others don't work, you might have to do that one too.
Yes it seems to happen for me with more than one gmail account. I have two and I just avoided it by setting one account as exchange instead. I'd even rather not even use the gmail app, but you know our device is limited to only one exchange account (sucks). I mean the whole mail experience on the Evo needs an overhaul (gmail app = android, email = sense).
Has anyone experienced problems using Google Voice Actions (long press the search key) on their Evo over the past 12 hours?
Mine all of a sudden will not pull contact info from Google anymore. My contacts are 100% synced with my Google GMail contacts as I know this is a prerequisite but if I say "Send Text to, Chuck, hey there" instead of putting Chucks name and phone number in the TO box the text is in the body of the message:
Message: Chuck hey there.
Another user over at Google mobile forums has reported the same issue starting last night.
Just wondering how wide spread this is?
Thanks!
Todd
Mine is doing the same exact thing. Mine was working fine and now it's not working. I've posted this same question last night and a few people said it was still working for them. I checked my co-workers evo and his still works. I'm not sure what the problem is. I've tried everything! I flashed a few different roms and even went back to sprint stock and nothing is working. I even created a new gmail account and added a few contacts thinking there was something wrong with my original account and that didn't fix the problem either. Sorry to say it but I'm glad I'm not the only one. It means that it's not my phone and something on google's end. I wonder how many other people this is affecting. Let me know if you find a solution.
Do both of you have your contacts in phone or synced from Google or an Exchange account?
Sent from my Evo using XDA App
No contacts on the phone. All are synced with Google. Syncing works fine. Changes happen on both sides. I also sync with an Exchange server for work contacts.
The contacts I use with Voice Actions are only Google (personal) contacts.
Me too. All my contacts are synched with Google. I mean i had it working the other day, but for some reason it just stopped recognizing everyone on my phone book. The weird part is that if I change the voice language to English (UK) instead of (US) I can voice dial but can't "send text to" or "send email to". I posted this in the Google forum and an employee said he was looking into it so I don't know if its a known problem or not. It doesn't seem to be affecting a lot of users of I'd see more traffic to this thread and more complaints. Right now I'm trying out Vlingo. I kind of like it better than Google voice actions.
All working again for me. Google says it was a server issue.
I have a rooted Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 with Android 4.2.2 for the last 3 weeks and it worked without any problems. Since 3 days however the contact stock app crashes / doesnt open at all with black screen or freezes with the message "Updating contact list...". I didn't change any settings or installed any new apps during that time. The error also seems to crash the call stock app, where call log, favorites, contacts etc. are also not displayed. In most cases when the error appears I cannot even open the call app and initiate a phone call. Incoming calls just show the number but do not get matched to any contacts.
The error appears randomly and then lasts for 2-3 hours, after which the app works again normally. Rebooting, clearing cache or clearing dalvic cache has no effect.
All my contacts are synched with Google, Samsung account, Twitter, Facebook & Linkedin. I have tried deactivating each & all of the syncs but this had no effect. I also tried displaying only contacts with numbers or only contacts from a certain account in settings but this also had no effect on the error.
Any other suggestions on what could be tried to fix this? Thank you very much in advance!
I might have traced down the reason for this and it could be related to the "sync people details" option for the Google account sync. I have now deactivated the sync and have to monitor if the error still occurs. Has anyone else experienced similar problems due to this setting?

Same problem here, occurred at about the same date early sep 2013 with the same phone.... Galaxy S4, T Mobile, Android 4.2.2. The android.process.acore goes ape**** and block all apps that use the contact list: I can no longer text, phone or email, for a couple of hours. After that, everything goes back to normal for half a day like nothing ever happened. Then all hell break lose again. I called T-Mobile, Samsung and Google.
T-Mobile has the same fix for any conceivable problem: reinstall the entire system OR change the phone. How subtle!
Samsung won't deal with any client problem whatsoever.
Google was the best - hands down. They spent time with me trying to figure the problem out. Ultimately, they recommended rooting the phone - which is not great because I use wifi calling, which requires a bit of tmobile code. Frankly, I would love to get rid of TMobile's bloatware, but they have a way to control their clients with wifi calling.
Still working on getting this pb resolved.

I installed an app called "Contact Remover", deleted all contacts and then re-synched them and at the same time deactivated the sync for the "Sync People Details" option. Since then the error only appeared one more time (no idea why ..) but it seems as if that mostly fixed the issue.
Possible solution

It looks like disabling all unnecessary sync relieves the performance to a normal level.
In particular, disabling "Sync Contacts" (under Accounts/Skype) from Skype made a big improvement performance for my SG4.
Hi, guys
I've updated my 910F to 5.1.1, and coincidentally - although probably not - I started having problems with Exchage/ActiveSync accounts in Gmail.
I always sideload the Exchange Services APK and configure my work e-mail as an extra account in the Gmail app. However, ever since upgrading to 5.1.1, my work account routinely and randomly vanishes: all e-mails disappear from the app, calendar won't show, and going into the "Accounts" setting does not show the usual entry. It is completely erased, and I have to reenter all of the account info to get it up and running again. However, it's always been just a matter of time (sometimes hours, sometimes day) until the problem strikes again.
Now I know there are a great many variables that could be at play here, but my questions are:
a) Has anyone been through the same situation?
b) How do I go about trying to figure out what is deleting the account from my device? Developers, how can I objectively debug/troubleshoot this?
Thank you for your help!

Ok so you stated that you got the 910f version and running 5.1.1 but is it stock rom or custom?
Since galaxy s2 I have never used stock roms as they are always buggy in one way or another. My advise is to use custom rom. If you don't want to use custom roms then you should get another stock rom. If you are running example COH4 then try ether a previous build or next build or even try and re flash the current rom.
I am on stock 5.0.1. 910f and I am having troubles with the gmail app syncing
With my hotmail account. All emails vanish (inbox-sent etc).
I have deleted and reconfigured my hotmail account through the gmail
App and also deleted it's data but the problem persisted.
I just can't get it to sync with other accounts other than gmail.
I think it is aproblem of the gmail app itself.
I have since switched to the stock samsung email client and everything
works fine!
@Zionator
It's my experience that custom ROMs allways end up having some quirks of their own; also, I'm on COI3 which is rock solid so far, in every other department.
@snatch_bill
On stock 5.0.2, I never had any problems. Also, while it works fine, the Samsung e-mail app is absolutely horrible, especially when compared with the Gmail client.
So please: does anyone have the least bit of an idea as to how to debug the problem? I'm not even really concerned with solving the problem right now, just understanding it.
Cheers,
Got the same problem. The exchanges account disappears after some days completely. It disappears in gmail and also in the account settings. I'm also using android 5.1.1 on my Note 4.
After reconfiguration the account works again for a few days until it disappear again.
Same problem here with the s6:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/exchange-account-disappears-frequently-t3176427
Seems to be a problem with the samsung rom. Guess we need to wait until samsung fix it.
