Really weird Wi-Fi & sync problems - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I'm a new Note3 owner, and I'm having some really weird (and annoying) problems. When I'm at home, connected to my home Wi-Fi everything works fine and dandy. When I'm somewhere else on 3G/4G, everything works perfectly and fast internet-wise EXCEPT:
1) Skype won't connect. It shows me as "not available". No change if I restart the app. Will only go online once I have a Wi-Fi-connection again.
2) Facebook Messenger notifications won't come through. If I open the app, and refresh it will show me new messages, but I won't get notifications when someone sends me something. Restarting the app doesn't change a thing.
Sooo, what? It feels as if I have some "sync only in Wifi" -setting on, but I cannot find one for the life of me. Not from the apps, not from the settings. My device info is in the signature.

Anyone? Any idea?

There isn't a Wi-Fi only option, if you have internet access that should be it, full stop. Have you tried playing with the bands your phone connects to, to see if that has an affect?

How do I do that?

Settings, connections, more networks, mobile network, network mode.

No change whatsoever... :/ For the life of me I can't figure out what's going on. Anyone?

Well I did a factory reset and that solved it at least for now. I haven't turned Wi-Fi on yet, so interesting what happens when I do.

Losing Data but Still Connected to 3G

OK. So I have noticed a problem since the Gingerbread update. As I am sure you are all well aware, with MotoBlur the 3G Icon and the Signal Bars are a blue color. I have come to notice that occasionally, I will retain a strong 3G connection, but the icon and bars go from a blue color to white. When it is like this, I cannot use data (browser, facebook, twitter, XDA App, weather, ANYTHING) and I cannot seem to figure out why. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
NOTE: I have two friends who have the same problem. It always seems to be a random occurrence.

Reboot
Rebooting seems the only 100% cure to get 3G working again.
Same here - even the *#*#4364#*#* phone off doesnt always fix it.
Really pisses me off, seems to be more pronounced with the TBH 'fix' - can anyone else confirm this?

did you hit the menu button on that screen you're showing and uncheck "restrict mobile data"?

On kwiboo's V2 rom data usage seems to be working well!
You should ask in the thread of the ROM you're using, as this isn't a general Nexus S problem.
Okyie may be I'll ask in that thread?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
probably it is a bug
because thoes ICS ROM is not fully functioning yet i think
Same problem
On O2x right here..
Got the same notification. I just set mine so high I knw ill never reach 900 gigs. Lol worked.

Solved (for me)
I went back to an earlier rom where I could switch the limit off and now i got rid of the message
You can just raise the data limit on the graph as well if you like the other ROM you were on...that's what I did

How Does Wi-Fi Optimization Function?

I just wanted to know how Google uses the Wi-Fi optimization to save battery. I ticked the box to save battery.

My guess is that they are setting Wi-Fi to scan less often for available networks. Devs have been making that tweak fire a long time.

Yes
Are you sure? I googled this and so far the conclusion seems to point that it disable Wi-Fi connection and only wake up periodically. This breaks apps that requires constant data connection, like Google voice.

AndroidOS uses all my mobile data in background

AndroidOS uses all my 3G data. I don't have my 3G on often, but when I do it keeps downloading in the background.

I have read somewhere that it is some kind of samsung backup thingy. If thats the case I dont wanna disable it but only allow it with wifi conection
3G is really expensive in our country.

Turn off the backup and restore that's in your screen shot, it's this that is eating your data because everything, contacts, call logs, settings, apps are being backed up to Google.

Is there no way to limit that so it wont use my 3G or if I would send a bug report where should I send it to?

Not that I know of, it's just on or off ?

Goto Settings/Data usage/Restrict background data and it will reduce the data apps use without you knowing.

Hey guys i have a 2 week old s7 edge and i noticed that the android os "sent data via wifi" alot. Is this normal? Or is my data leaking out? I didnt root or anything and i already factory reset like 10x. Appreciate any info about this matter.

I wonder the same as I have this issue too. I had the same for 'Enhanced Features' from Samsung (profile sharing, see app at bottom of screenshot), I had it disabled and it still sends data. I ended up disabling that thru this Samsung-site. I have disabled all reporting stuff (found 4 in total scattered in all settings) but to no avail, even Samsung Push Services keeps sending data Even Facebook send stuff while i never used the app, I hate this stuff.
What does this profile sharing do?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
It lets you send/share stuff thru the Samsung Cloud with other people who have this feature enabled.
Already deregistered. Hopefully it helps
