AndroidOS uses all my mobile data in background - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

AndroidOS uses all my 3G data. I don't have my 3G on often, but when I do it keeps downloading in the background.

Turn off the backup and restore that's in your screen shot, it's this that is eating your data because everything, contacts, call logs, settings, apps are being backed up to Google.

Is there no way to limit that so it wont use my 3G or if I would send a bug report where should I send it to?

Not that I know of, it's just on or off ?

Goto Settings/Data usage/Restrict background data and it will reduce the data apps use without you knowing.

Did you use TitaniumBackup or any application like that to restore apps or data? I heard that was one of the side effects of restoring apps and data. Trying to remember if there was a solution. Have to get back to you on that one.

On kwiboo's V2 rom data usage seems to be working well!
You should ask in the thread of the ROM you're using, as this isn't a general Nexus S problem.
Okyie may be I'll ask in that thread?

probably it is a bug
because thoes ICS ROM is not fully functioning yet i think
Same problem
On O2x right here..
Got the same notification. I just set mine so high I knw ill never reach 900 gigs. Lol worked.

Solved (for me)
I went back to an earlier rom where I could switch the limit off and now i got rid of the message
You can just raise the data limit on the graph as well if you like the other ROM you were on...that's what I did

Getting bad battery life from maps?

I got the phone yesterday and rooted it.
I never even touched maps once and it used a lot of of my battery.
I might have used Google now and S voice once to try it out, maybe the maps is updating from that?
How can I stop this?

I think you just go into your maps go to settings and turn off the location services. It'll still be able to locate if you have it off.

You can also convert it to user app in Titanium Backup, and then greenify it.

more than likely its because your maps is tracking your location. for latitude or for location history. try disabling all those features within maps.
Thanks guys did the disable location thing

Help and what happened - aospa browser downloaded 1GB of data.

So today I got this nice notice of Android that I'm reaching my mobile data cap. So as it seems, is that the aospa browser downloaded 1GB of data in the background during the night between 1 and 2 november.

}
I'm very concerned on what caused this and costed me €10 of mobile data. I deinstalled the browser from /system/apps for now. I don't use the aospa browser myself, I use Google Chrome.
Can I check somewhere, or in some logs what it did and what caused it?
BTW, the data is really used, and not just a bug in the "Data Usage"-tab, as my carrier states I only got 178MB left for the month.
Have u done any speed tests for the your mobile data? Usually that eats a lot of data; even just doing one test.

No, and besides that would turn up that the speedtest app would have consumed that data, and even in the background.
Specifically the aospa browser downloaded 1.05GB in the BACKGROUND.
Thread closed so the OP can create a new one in Android Q&A, as per request.

Why does "Android OS" sent lots of data out?

Hey guys i have a 2 week old s7 edge and i noticed that the android os "sent data via wifi" alot. Is this normal? Or is my data leaking out? I didnt root or anything and i already factory reset like 10x. Appreciate any info about this matter.

I wonder the same as I have this issue too. I had the same for 'Enhanced Features' from Samsung (profile sharing, see app at bottom of screenshot), I had it disabled and it still sends data. I ended up disabling that thru this Samsung-site. I have disabled all reporting stuff (found 4 in total scattered in all settings) but to no avail, even Samsung Push Services keeps sending data Even Facebook send stuff while i never used the app, I hate this stuff.
What does this profile sharing do?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
It lets you send/share stuff thru the Samsung Cloud with other people who have this feature enabled.
Already deregistered. Hopefully it helps
