Hello all, I'm a newbie to this forum and rooting process.
So far I managed to root my XT610 (2.3.4 and 4.7.3 Kernel) I'm using GSM outside of US.
I wanted to install Ram Expander.
It said my kernel is not editeble. I looked for CM7 2.3.7 (v8). It told me to "Flash Recovery" What does that mean? I saw Clockworkmod Recovery. I installed Rom Manager, my device is not listed. I'm stuck right now. Please, can an expert guide me?
Thanks so much. (I'm sorry to be such a newbie, you can provide me links or pm me.)
-I installed Droid 2 Bootstrapper and clicked Bootstrap Recovery for now.
How did you root?

Using Sarat Marudhuri's blogspot page.

The links are bad. Do you still have the sbf files? Can you upload them?
Use Framaroot to have root access!
I already have root access. Up!

Hi,
Noob couple of questions, my apologies.
My nexus S has GRH78C firmware but I see other posts on here regarding a version ending in 40.
Is there a specific version of 2.3.3 I need or are they the same ? (if so a link would help )
Also, can I root 2.3.3 using the superboot method ?
Cheers

if you have clockwork mod use this as a restore and you will have a rooted 2.3.3 its the easiest way to do it.
http://www.mediafire.com/?c1ww7zb837uycbk
just unzip and put the backup folder in your clockworkmod recovery folder boot into recovery and restore 2.3.3 takes 2 minutes and you will boot up with a rooted 2.3.3
Worked a treat... Thanks very much
No problem
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I just flashed my ns4g back to stock and did the ota 4.0.4 update.
I have a couple questions.
1. Is this more stable than the ics roms already out and themed, I miss my theme already.
2. can we root this stock ics.
Edit: I went through the steps for rooting that I did with gb and it says it's unlocked and I have cwm recovery but can't get any apps to gain root acess
sounds like your almost there if you have a working custom recovery and you unlocked bootloader
Flash latest su binary and apk

Exactly which file did you use?
Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip this one, or su-bin-3.0.3.2-efghi-signed.zip ?
thanks
edit: Never mind guys, I figured it out
this is the easiest root method you can find. Just launch the .bat and follow the instructions
it's for ns4g ONLY!! anyone with a ns3g, please don't use it

Apologies if its been answered but couldn't find one. Also it might be silly but still I need to ask.
I've got a Defy+
Version: 4.5.1 -134 DFP-231 which I need to root.
After looking through the forums, I ended up here.
My questions is regarding the files mentioned in the thread we need to flash.
Are those full sbf's? (Do I need to worry about the CG versions?)
And after rooting, In case I need to unroot, will I be able to flash my stock ROM back??
Worry about what? "Upgrading" to BL8? Don't worry, can't get any worse than BL7
yeah.. It can't get worse..
I'll go for it..

These "original full sbf.gz files" should work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22491092

I will do in some days. *afraid*
neo.ank, could you tell me what did you do step by step to root your defy, please? Here is so many manual that I'm confused. I have the same version DFP 231 like you have.
Thanks
I've already done it.
I have a question regarding defy+ on 231. If i root it using the new root methods for BL7, will I be able to install a dual boot system, i.e. retaining my stock rom AND adding cm9 (either quarx or epsilon)?
If I can't do the dual boot install, will only cm9 install?
Hello everybody!
I am from Argentina, sorry for my bad english!
I have a Nexus 4. The phone had never a modification...
I want get root access in the phone, i understand that i have to unlock the bootloader but...
if i install CM (following the easy steps of the website get.cm), this process may unlock the bootloader automatically? And could give me root access?
And another question:
if i install CM (following the easy steps of the website get.cm)...
Can i then flash the phone with "franco.kernel" to get USB OTG?
Thanks and very sorry for my bad english!

You need to unlock the bootloader in order to flash a custom rom. But it's easy! Here is a guide (including how to root):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/guide-ultimate-nexus-4-root-guide-t2018179
About Franco Kernel... Franco's is AOSP based, CM is CAF. It may work, but with wrong colours (or it may cause bootloops). Look for a CM/CAF basedkernel with usb-otg support in the Development forum, or take a look at this thread:

Hello meatboy371, thanks for your answer...
So, does the installation program of CM does not unlock the bootloader? I have to do it manually?
Look this (is a website):
wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/CyanogenMod_Installer
Do I need to root my phone before installing?
No. You can have a rooted phone, or not. The installer doesn't care. However, to be in a supported configuration, you need to be running a stock ROM.
Do I need to unlock my bootloader first?
No, you don't. If your bootloader is locked, we'll unlock it for you.
So, can i install CM in my phone without any modifications?
And then, will the bootloader unlock automatically?
Thanks and sorry for my english!

The installer from Cyanogen WILL unlock your bootloader and root your N4 automatically, you don't need any third party app or doing it manually, I did it on my N4 when i got it and everything went fine BUT the process will erase everything on your phone, so be aware of what your doing.

I didn't know that CM installer unlocks the bootloader (i used to flash CM roms from recovery), thanks for the info.
About the kernel, you'll need to find a CM version of Franco's to work with CM roms, like I said before (look at development forum).
About the recovery, I don't know, but if it isn't changed by the CM installer, you can easily flash using fastboot. You can try TWRP, CMW or PhilZ, there are threads for those with step-by-step guides to flash.
Thanks meatboy371!!!
Thanks blusydays!!!
SOLVED!
Does this exist? I have found a TWRP for a regular T330, but not the T330NU. Basically I am looking for a way to get my 5.1.1 rooted. I know there is a method listed on this forum that involves installing a new kernal that is rootable, but once again, I need a custom recovery to even flash that file. Or do I? Any help would be highly appreciated. I apologize if this has been addressed, but after many Google searches, and even searches on XDA, i was not able to find any definite instructions on how to do this. I would happily downgrade to 4.4.2 Kitkat if thats even possible, but I hit a dead end there also trying to use ODIN to flash the stock 4.4.2 firmware. I made the stupid mistake of upgrading to 5.1.1, and now am suffering do to all the bloatware installed with it. Please direct me to the proper files i need to use to get my device rooted! I'm not worried about knox because it has already been triggered. I just dont understand how or where to get TWRP for my tablet because all the files I found specifically left the T330NU out of its list of compatible devices. I have tried Kingo-Root, KingRoot, and no success. Help, I need ROOT!
A TWRP build for the SM-T330 will also work on the SM-T330NU, so you can use this thread for TWRP. There is also Philz touch, a touch version of CWM which can be found in this thread. All that said however, there is only one way to root the SM-T330NU on 5.1.1, and that is the kernel method you mentioned, for which the thread can be found here

Ok... heres my next question? Do i just simply use ODIN to install the custom recovery, then use the custom recovery to flash that new kernel??? Because I still have the stock recovery on right now, and just need the basic instructions h on how to achieve this. Thanks

Yes I believe so, although the kernel thread should have instructions
Success with Custom recovery and Kernel Flash
Ok i performed the Kernel flash using Philz recovery... and flashed the SuperSU file posted on that thread. Now I ran a program called "Root Checker" from the app store and it says Root not installed... BUT when I run the SuperSU app it says "Super User Enabled" ... So am i rooted or not?? Is there another program i need to use to check root status? or am i done?...
***DUH, my fault... did not realize i needed to grant super user access to the program.... Did that and SUCCESS!!***
Thanks dude... you're very helpful and patient... Wish i had a customer comment card I could fill out about you!
rootedI
I have the exact same tab and have not found much support for it however I believe I rooted it using old school towel root. And there are some cool things u can do with it but I've been back in kit Kat land all this time.
