can we root the stock ics on ns4g - Nexus S General

I just flashed my ns4g back to stock and did the ota 4.0.4 update.
I have a couple questions.
1. Is this more stable than the ics roms already out and themed, I miss my theme already.
2. can we root this stock ics.
Edit: I went through the steps for rooting that I did with gb and it says it's unlocked and I have cwm recovery but can't get any apps to gain root acess

sounds like your almost there if you have a working custom recovery and you unlocked bootloader
Flash latest su binary and apk
download here
http://androidsu.com/superuser/

looking at the link you posted my phone says I have the newest superuser installed but seing as how its not working I will flash and see.
Edit: It Worked...Thanks man

Exactly which file did you use?
Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip this one, or su-bin-3.0.3.2-efghi-signed.zip ?
thanks
edit: Never mind guys, I figured it out

this is the easiest root method you can find. Just launch the .bat and follow the instructions
it's for ns4g ONLY!! anyone with a ns3g, please don't use it

Looking for a 2.2 with the Permissions Stripped to Flash on Rooted N1

The title says it all.
With the first pre-release of 2.2 that leaked, someone stripped to permissions that required an unrooted device with the stock recovery.
I am running the latest version of CM with ClockworkMod Recovery.
Thanks
This is what I installed:

I wiped CM5, installed the pre-rooted FRF50, then went to FRF72. With FRF83 being released today, though, you'll want to wait until that's rooted before you go there from FRF50.
Cyanogen's quick rooter works fine on FRF83.

So where is that located and how does that work?
Will I have to unroot and go back to the stock recovery to flash and then run the quickrooter?

There's a thread in development.
Flash a custom recovery
put the quick rooter.zip on your SD card
flash the quick rooter
This is assuming you're already on an unrooted FRF83

I am already rooted and running CM 5.0.8.
I am looking for a pre-rooted version of the latest 2.2 release, so I dont have to go through the process of unrooting then flashing.
Thanks

Do you have a link to a pre-rooted version of FRF72?
I am assuming that it has to be pre-rooted since FRF50 is in the link that you provided me.

Awesome!
Anybody given this a spin yet.
Is the file working correctly?
Also, I noticed that you are using an under-volted and over-clocked kernel.
What does under-volting do?
Save battery life, I am assuming?
How do you like it?
Just curious.
Isn't pre rooted not rooted? If ya rooted that wont work will it? I tried and unsuccessful
I think that files bad. Says 74 MB but downloads instantly
Edit ... ok it works.. I was rooted on 72 with alone 1.7.0 recovery. Backed up my shat and flashed no problem...
Its working fine, i flashed on top of rooted FRF72, thats it. No wipe, nothing else and everything went smooth.

Galaxy Tab GB 2.3.3 Rooting-Without flashing anything

Hello Friends
Go to this thread and say thanx to DooMLoRD.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
Now u can root our Tab without flashing anything and u can unroot also easily.
This is meant for GT with GB-2.3.3 and no need to use our friend's[chainfire] messy CF root anymore.
PS:I have rooted successfully and installed Titanium pro and have frozen bloatware also.
So if you have 2.3.4/5 then you still need to use cf-root?
Please ask Doomlord in that thread

Please ask Doomlord in that thread if u have any questions.
Read that and other allied threads carefully.I have seen other devices like GS2 with GB 2.3.4/5 have been rooted successfully with this method.
But do not rush in.Think twice before going for it.
Wish u goodluck.
PS:If it works for GB 2.3.4/5,please give here that information.
I can confirm it works on DXJPI Asian gb! This is what I was waiting for!
Thank you to the author.
UPDATE: This is a simple root. Except for superuser and busybox no other app was installed. Furthermore the original stock boot animation remains intact. No CWM also(which I never needed anyway) so the recovery mode is also stock. Doing a factory reset or a change in CSC will NOT HAVE ANY RECOVERY ERROR MESSAGE which were present with CFroot.
REALLY GOOD WORK DoomLoRD!!!!

+1 for this! I finally updated to the DXJPI Asian GB after reading up on this. I didn't like what I read about CFroot and held off updating until I found a better rooting solution. GREAT WORK DoomLoRD and many many thanks!!

How to"re root" a500 after receiving ics ota from Acer

I did some searching and did not find a direct answer to this. Feel free to lock this thread if this has been answered.
I flashed back to my original stock ROM from when I rooted my device. I went through the series if updates, to this morning and and updated to ics. I have lost root access. So the question is.... Is there a way to root my device on ics without downgrading. I got to have my AD free and battery saving app

this worked for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546593
I saw this earlier. I guess the leak could be what I have? I will have to check the firmware and compare it to what is listed. Thanks btw I will try this later tonight and update if this worked.

I have same situation. I had rooted HC 3.2.1. Yesterday I made the update to stock ICS. I have to say that I am not happy with this new rom. It is not so smooth and fast that I expected. I am intrested to install some nice and fast custom rom. How to do it? What is need to be done to root and install the ClockworkMod??????
Worked perfectly and easily on mine. Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1
I used the method as above, coming from the stock ota. And it worked I was able to use the battery saver and TB. I don't have a custom recovery, in order to do a back up for the time being but that is okay for now.
Edit: I see there is a bunch more threads started with this same topic so feel free to shut this down.
Hey did you unroot before installing the OTA ICS update? Also, what about recovery?
Acer_A500_041.205.01_COM_GEN2
Just to clarify, the root method for the ICS leak works on the US ICS OTA? (Acer_A500_041.205.01_COM_GEN2)
I just want to make sure, as I am being offered the OTA update from stock rooted Acer_A500_7.014.02_COM_GEN2. I want to make sure I can re-root if I do the update. Otherwise, I'll just wait for a CWM-flashable rooted version. Or has someone already posted that that I've missed?
Yes I was rooted. Then went back to my original stock ROM and stock recovery then went through all the updates. I updated this morning to the stock ics from Acer. Then used the thread above to root again. However I do not have a custom recovery at the moment but root access apps are working just fine. Which is all I need for now.(I live in southern Michigan)
thanks. A question about your custom recovery...Does Acer Recovery Installer no longer work to install CWM again? Or have you just not attempted to re-install CWM?

okay cool thanks. What did you use to unroot? For flashing back to stock recovery I will use "Acer Recovery Installer".
I tried using iconiaroot which I used to root but it still won't unroot my tablet. I even tried restarting and still nothing.
I lost root when doing the updates to clarify. And no I do not have a recovery at the moment, which I don't need because I am running ics with rooted apps that is all I need. I have no reason to flash a custom ROM. I will let the developers work with this for a bit and I will probably check it or later

Okay great thanks. Glad to know it still worked, flashing the ota update with still having root. Only thing that worries me is I flashed back to stock recovery using that program an went I booted to recovery, it was exclamation point inside a triangle. Hope that doesn't affect my update process.

I hope a root option comes out that doesn't require a ROM like gingerbreak. Maybe it's not possible for ICS or there aren't any developers interested in working on it, I don't know, but I'll wait.
It shouldn't your stock recovery is different then a custom recovery ie cwm. You will have to find another thread or something to flash a custom recovery. If your wanting to have a custom ROM. I have no need for it. So to put this into a nut shell.
Flash back to stock ROM (honeycomb)
Flash stock recovery.
Except the ota.
Use the link in first post to"re root"your device.
You will have a stock ROM from Acer that has root access. No recovery.
I Hope this makes it clear as mud:sly:
Hit the thanks button if any of this helped you, good day.

Wouldn't Rootkeeper be able to restore root after the update? It worked when I updated my Razr to the leaked ICS.

okay. sorry for all the questions, but does it matter what version of HC I'm on? You say flash back to stock, is that just if I was running a custom rom? I can't find the sdcard I have my backups on but I'm running completely stock 3.2.1 HC. Just rooted and running CWM.
No ICS Update for me, Rooted 3.2, Need Help!
I thought having my tablet simply rooted wouldnt cause a big issue, i didnt flash it, im still running 3.2 gen 2 but no update for ics has appeared, when checking for update it says im up to date, ive checked several times, tried looking into it seeing if i had to unroot somehow which ive found no program that will unroot my tablet successfully i do not want to wipe because last time i rooted it wiped and i lost alot of important data i couldnt back up. Someone please advise me or send me the Canadian/USA Update Zip or other location for the official ics. Thanks!

Seems that someone on Development section released a rooted, deodexed rom from the stock. Maybe you could look at it.
Over in the development section Toldo has posted rooted stock versions of the latest ICS updates from Samsung. Has anybody tried them yet, especially for the wifi only version? He posted a ROM link and a fix link, but to do the fix requires copying and pasting files from the fix zip to the ROM zip and my win7 computer won't let me paste them. I'd really like to post this question in that thread but I don't have 10 posts yet so I can't post in the developer forum.

TWRP for SM-T330nu Galaxy Tab 4 8.0??

Does this exist? I have found a TWRP for a regular T330, but not the T330NU. Basically I am looking for a way to get my 5.1.1 rooted. I know there is a method listed on this forum that involves installing a new kernal that is rootable, but once again, I need a custom recovery to even flash that file. Or do I? Any help would be highly appreciated. I apologize if this has been addressed, but after many Google searches, and even searches on XDA, i was not able to find any definite instructions on how to do this. I would happily downgrade to 4.4.2 Kitkat if thats even possible, but I hit a dead end there also trying to use ODIN to flash the stock 4.4.2 firmware. I made the stupid mistake of upgrading to 5.1.1, and now am suffering do to all the bloatware installed with it. Please direct me to the proper files i need to use to get my device rooted! I'm not worried about knox because it has already been triggered. I just dont understand how or where to get TWRP for my tablet because all the files I found specifically left the T330NU out of its list of compatible devices. I have tried Kingo-Root, KingRoot, and no success. Help, I need ROOT!
A TWRP build for the SM-T330 will also work on the SM-T330NU, so you can use this thread for TWRP. There is also Philz touch, a touch version of CWM which can be found in this thread. All that said however, there is only one way to root the SM-T330NU on 5.1.1, and that is the kernel method you mentioned, for which the thread can be found here
Install new kernel

Ok... heres my next question? Do i just simply use ODIN to install the custom recovery, then use the custom recovery to flash that new kernel??? Because I still have the stock recovery on right now, and just need the basic instructions h on how to achieve this. Thanks

Yes I believe so, although the kernel thread should have instructions
Success with Custom recovery and Kernel Flash
Ok i performed the Kernel flash using Philz recovery... and flashed the SuperSU file posted on that thread. Now I ran a program called "Root Checker" from the app store and it says Root not installed... BUT when I run the SuperSU app it says "Super User Enabled" ... So am i rooted or not?? Is there another program i need to use to check root status? or am i done?...
***DUH, my fault... did not realize i needed to grant super user access to the program.... Did that and SUCCESS!!***
Thanks dude... you're very helpful and patient... Wish i had a customer comment card I could fill out about you!
rootedI
I have the exact same tab and have not found much support for it however I believe I rooted it using old school towel root. And there are some cool things u can do with it but I've been back in kit Kat land all this time.
