Advice for rooting baseband: I9505XXUBMF8 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello members. just got my s4 today, had a read through the posts, was wondering whats the best way to root my device which would also give me cwm recovery as well?
My about details follow:
Android 4.2.2
Baseband Version: I9505XXUBMF8
Kernal Version: 3.4.0-917495 [email protected] #1 Wed June 19 20:07:29 KST 2013
Build: JDQ39.I9505XXUBMF8
SELinux: Permissive
Secure Boot Status: Type: Samsung
Would i need to root 1st then flash recovery, or can it be done with just flashing cwm which would give me root?
I am planning to stay stock for now with cwm, and ideally do not want to have a insecure kernal/yellow triangle. Can someone guide me please, btw i dont have knox on my device if that helps.
I've come from a s2 which had cwm recovery and was very confident using that, have not used odin before.
Thanks

You can use CF-Auto Root from chainfire then just flash CWM (do a search for the links man).

There are multiple posts on cf-root and cwm, can someone direct me to the right ones i will need please, in relation to my current firmware. Thanks

You don't have to do it that way, instead you can use temporary clockworkmod and install superuser from there. You can finish rooting in less than 5-10 mins this way.

I cannot make head or tail of that thread link which you have given. It is such a long page with several options to root ICS. I could not find a single method given there to root JELLY BEAN.

I just need a kernel which I can flash to get ROOT and stay as close to the Official Stock ROM XWLSK as possible. Can anyone help??? Hasn't CHAINFIRE made a CF-ROOT KERNEL for JELLY BEAN YET???
Re: [4.1.2][GT-I9100] Official Jellybean for INDIA! (XWLSK)
For rooting use the CF's SuperSU CWM zip from stock recovery.

Root XWLSK
You can use Siyah Kernel "‘Siyah-s2-v6.0b5.tar‘ for rooting your Galaxy S2 I9100 on XWLSK Android 4.1.2 firmware update. Simply flash the same using ODIN.
If the phone goes into a loop, go to recovery mode and do a wipe cache. It should fix the issue.
I have used mobile ODIN app to select the file "I9100XWLSK" and then for kernel "Siyah-s2-v6.0b5.tar" with options wipe checked.
Also, checked the USB Debugging option and then clicked on Flash.

can anybody post the CWM of the modem.

Which Official Samsung Jelly Bean ROM is the best according to you? One that would work in India too. Give the Download Links for the ROM and the ROOTING Kernel too. So far I am having a major problem finding a WORKING KERNEL to ROOT this new update XWLSK.

Attached is CWM SU zip. Download and copy to your external sd card>Power Off phone>Press the Volume up+Home+Power key>Choose the option to apply upgrade from external storage>Choose the zip>Select "Yes">Reboot your phone.
This will root your phone and install Super SU. There is no cf root kernel and in most probability there will not be one. Understand that your device is ~2 years old, the world has moved on to better devices...

How in the world do you know that this ROM is buggy?? Did they use a special process to induce bugs, something that did not happen with the "European ones"?:cyclops:

I can't flash the CWM SU zip in the recovery mode because there is no CWM installed after flashing the XWLSK Official ROM. Now what to do?
EDIT: Ok. So I used my brains and first flashed Siyah Kernel "‘Siyah-s2-v6.0b5.tar‘ for rooting after getting the XWLSK on my phone. does not work on its own and the phone goes into a boot loop. But it does install the CWM so I can flash your CWM SU Zip file from the recovery mode. I reboot. BUT STILL THE PHONE Is GOING IN a BOOT LOOP. Can someone give me something that WORKS on the XWLSK???? So far NOTHING HAS WORKED TO ROOT XWLSK. Should I get rid of this XWLSK rom and get XWLSN????? Pls advice ONLY if you KNOW

This is no valid reason for things not to work on the SGS II. The SGS II was the BEST phone available at the time I bought it nearly two years ago. I bought it on the first day it landed in India.

I'm saying this because of my past experience with Indian roms . They always had few bugs the 4.0.3 update had many bugs . ALso the battery life is not as good as we get in european firmwares

Thanks mate, I was finally able to get root using the Siyah-s2-v6.0b5.tar. I figured that an App called LBE Privacy guard was interfering with it and I uninstalled it. After that your Siyah-s2-v6.0b5.tar has worked. :good:

What rooting method to use?

I purchased the I9500 from eXpansys and received the following:
Model #: GT-I9500
Baseband: I9500 UNUAMDK
Kernel Version: 3.4.5_534999 Wed Apr 24
Build number: JDQ39.I9500UBUAMDK
I am using the phone on Fido in Canada.
What rooting method will work for me based on the above info?
Thanks,
akey
flash this: kernel. Or this stock kernel
and you got full root.

The first one won't give you root. It's a rootable kernel. Not a rooted kernel.

That thread is for an older firmware and no longer works on MF3 or MK2.
I used klingo root on mk2 there is also the safe root method that works
Saferoot has been used by a lot of folks as mentioned. But, you guys need to get heavy into the SafeStrap threads. All info is there--

[Q] Need help with d80220b-buo root, etc.

I'm having trouble finding the right root to use for my specific build and software, as well as which ROMs would work. The trouble is this odd BUO part of the software version, which I'm not finding any other mentions of here or elsewhere. So, if someone could point me in the right direction for the root and recommend a ROM I'd be really grateful. Thanks.
Android version: 4.4.2
Kernel version: 3.4.0
Build #: KOT491.D80220b
Software version: D80220b-BUO-xx
There is no root for 4.4.2 yet, only some workarounds involving going back to 4.2.2
You could flash back to 4.2.2 then re-flash with this method for 4.4.2 & root, Its fantastic!
