Hi all, I m new to Samsung, previously using HTC. I got a simple yet a question that troubling me and preventing me from rooting my phone. I saw a thread regarding the CF-auto root which i think is a most easiest way to root my phone (GT-I9505). Here is my phone details:
Baseband version - I9505DXUAME2

Android version - 4.2.2
It is possible to use the CF-auto root to root my phone? Thanks if you can help me up.

Yes, can confirm that. But CF- Auto Root also works on the I9500, different file off course. Link http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/.

TA only resets to 0 if you have a stock rom and recovery, otherwise it will always jump back to 1. Don`t use TA with a custom kernel, that may cause soft bricks/bootloops.

Basically, from what you are saying it is much safer to be on stock for the mean time? Are there stable roms out there that thats available? Mostly from what i read on android dev, they are mostly alpha (please correct me if i am wrong).
Btw, thanks for your help. I have successfully rooted my i9505 using cf-auto root. My second question is what would be the most stable recovery?
I read from an article that CWM is still unstable?

As far as I can tell, all Kingo related threads have been closed on XDA until they can sort out issues regarding capturing and insecure transmission of IMEI number along with other unnecessary data.
Are there any methods for MK2 root other than Kingo & vRoot?

I already stated that kingo uses all known methods. Vroot was capturing imei and kingo support verified with me (as did tcpview) that the latest release removed the vroot malicious code. Kingo was merely running vroot code, which is why it too captured emei, this is no longer the case. Also read here that speaking of kingo or vroot is fine, just cant link to it. That all happened months ago, and if mods haven't confirmed by now its safe, then they aren't actively checking, likely busy. Doesn't take long. Run packet sniff while flashing and see for yourself. None of ny threads that i mentioned in were closed. And no, im not aware of other methods for mk2. Cheers.

Hello,
after a few days researching and trying to root/flash my samsung sph l720 i didnt found anything but first:
a cousin brought me his gs4 l720 from us, it was unlocked and i can "use" it but i cant enable the hotspot etc...
i was almost going to root it but i started reading about knox, bootloaders etc thats why i wanna ask if its possible to update it from 4.3 to 4.4 and enable the hotspot etc.
software version:
L720VPUAMDC
Hardware version
L720.08
Android Version:
4.3
baseband version:
L720VPUAMDC
kernel version:

[email protected] #1
Sat Nov 16 11:05:09 KST 2013
Compilation number:
JSS15J.L720VPUEMK2
thats all the info in about device... i wanna know if its possible to root it and install a custom recovery like CWM
also if its possible to update it to KitKat
what happend if the Knox flag triggers ? do my s4 bricks or something ? or it just voids the warranty, because i dont care about the warranty as im in another country.
Just to answer your knox question. All it does is void warranty. You can still unlock root and flash Roms with Knox tripped.

Do some more reading ALL over the forums here. So far our device doesn't have completely locked bootloader. just the knox flag.
It's actually very hard to truly brick this device. You may softbrick but that's easily recoverable.
There are posts on how to update to MF9, MK2 or NAE.
You can root any of those with the latest CF-Autoroot and add a custom recovery and flash a way compatible ROMs as per the OPs directions.
BUT PLEASE take some time to read, search and read some more. If you do you will surely get the most of your time and more importantly your device.
Good luck.
Looks to me like your phone is already rooted. Or at the least has been seriously messed with. You have 3 mismatches in the info you posted. MDC baseband with 4.3, then complilation of MK2. These are all different versions. You need to figure out the exact configuration of your phone before we can proceed with helping you.

Since it appears your phone may have been upgraded to MK2 at one point, you could try just downloading the full NAE (KIT KAT) tar file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663619 and upgrading to NAE in one quick swoop. Then if you want to root it, you can use cf autoroot and go from there. If your phone has already been unlocked it should maintain the unlock even with the flashing of the stock tar.

Thank you very much for your response. Well, I'll tell you what happened: To sim-unlock that phone it was downgraded to MDC while using MK2 stock rom. My wife's L720 is in the same case and also a co-worker is in the same situation. So now my question is, is there any problem upgrading it to kitkat (NAE) knowing that my wife doesn't uses the rooted rom?

You'll have to use ODIN to flash the NC1 Kernel and then use towelroot. If you look at the NJ4 root thread in the General section it should be the same steps, just go back to the NI1 files instead of NJ4. You can also just check in the Index thread "All Things MK2, NB1 ..." and look for the root instructions.

I think I may have the same phone. My big concern about down grading to kitkat 4.4.4 is the memory on the phone I am tying to get will be wiped? I want to root the phone in order to install a software like dr. fon or something else that can possibly get text I accidentally erased. The text dates back to mid April till the beginning of May. I don't necessarily need all the text messages, just from my business phone and a client. I heard There is a chance that data could still be out there even though it got erased from my phone? Not sure what my odds are or how possible it is? Any help would be appreciated.

Try using Helium backup to get a full app and data backup while you are in non-root mode in 4.4.4 or 5.0. This will get your messages & text for you.

Hello, so I have been looking for several days on how to root my galaxy s5 with the same specifications as yours. I bought it in the US and I didn't think that verizon customized it that badly and actually didn't even open more LTE bands. So I find myself wanting to delete the customization and add the LTE bands used by Vodafone in Spain.
I have tried to follow the instructions that they gave you but I am pretty new on this rooting phones thing and I do not quite understand how can I actually follow the guides (for instance I can't backup the aboot file, it says "permission denied"). Since you have gone through this same nightmare I was wondering if you could help a little bit. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks a lot!

I am wanting to root my phone, and there is a guide here (the links on the first reply of this thread), but I understand that one of the steps is to backup "something" (the aboot is part of that something) that I don't know what it is or how to really do it. I would really appreciate if you can give me a "dummie" guide to do this.
On the other hand, about adding bands, there is guide here:
