How to get rid of upgrade nag messages - Nexus 7 (2013) General

I am sure this is answered somewhere but it's hard to find. Apologies.
I am on JSS15Q, rooted, TWRP installed with no issues. I would like to permanently get rid of the upgrade nag message (I can temp get rid of it by accepting the upgrade and letting it fail).
I don't see any value in installing the upgrade.
Can you help ?
Thanks.

Get AutoRun Manager from the PlayStore.
Autorun manager - advanced mode, then in settings check 'show system entries' and then find Google services framework, and disable the one with 'system update receiver' in the name.

Thanks, installed, settings changed etc. but not understanding/seeing "the one with 'system update receiver' in the name"

Why don't you want to install the update?

(a) It will not install because I am rooted and have TWRP (b) too many stories of people with no problems getting them after the update.
For a more major update I would do it but if it aint broke I aint fixing it.

As show in the image. At the bottom- "system update service receiver".

Go to settings then apps then swipe left to all and click on Google services framework and untick show notifications

Will that work on a stock N7, too? Or only rooted?

Looks like it to me... Running locked, unrooted Stock.

Awesome, thanks! What other notifications is the 'Google Services Framework' responsible for? In other words, if I turn off its notifications, will I miss any other important notifications, besides the firmware update nag??

More easy way.
Long click on the notification - select information and then stop.

Cool, and thanks. Gonna give it a shot. I see two apps called "AutoRun Manager" though. This one and this one. Does it matter which one? Would either work?
EDIT TO ADD: I just tried the first one (as it matched your screenshot.) I went to Settings and enabled "Show system entries" as well as "Enable System app disable." Then when I went to the Google Services Framework and expanded it, I see that "com.google.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService&Receiver" was already disabled. I have never done this before and I'm on stock Android, KitKat 4.4.4, rooted via towelroot. So now I am wondering, does towelroot disable this by default, by any chance? Just wondering if I need to do anything further, and why this would be disabled for me already. Does it get enabled by some other mechanism, when an update is actually out?

Seems to me that would just prevent the notification, but the update would still be downloaded and waiting to install. Am I wrong about that? I want to block any system update entirely (until I am good and ready for it, until Lollipop is properly rooted, etc.) I don't want it to download, I don't want to be nagged about it, I don't want my Nexus 7 to know about it at all. I'm thinking danvee's solution is more in line with that than simply "blocking the notification."

I've been bothered by Google Voice not working since I got my Xoom on launch day, but have been using the web portal... Until now.
I loaded up my Droid, backed up Google Voice+settings with Titanium Backup, restored it on my Xoom and it came up without doing the setup, since it already had my account settings installed. It force closed the first time but I noticed an error in the notification area... Error was asking for permission to use that email address as my Google Voice account, I accepted, re-launched Google Voice and success, full app, working as it would on the phone. Gives notifications and everything.
Enjoy!

Yes, need to be rooted, install BusyBox(there's a Market app for that) then install Titanium Backup. I've tried just installing the APK, naturally no luck.

Latest version of the free TB, whatever version that is...
There's no directory in there that starts with a .(at least, according to ls -a, I don't have Root Explorer on here, using terminal), there is a com.google.android.apps.googlevoice directory with all the subdirectories and such though.
I can't get busy box to install. I'm rooted, but it's saying my NAND is locked or it wasn't able to remount.
[edit] nevermind. I guess it didn't like that I was plugged into my computer and didn't have the debug mode on. Strange.

[Q] "Hello world, PM EasyView!"? Possible malware caught on screenshot?

I recently took a screenshot that revealed another background window behind a warning message window that says "Hello world, PM EasyView!"
Is this some kind of malware? I tried scanning my phone with Lookout Security and it did not detect anything suspicious.
It all began when all of a sudden my stock 2.2.2 Defy's Task Manager kept showing popup messages telling me that my Hotmail app is running for too long and is consuming memory. This never happened before, ie. Task Manager app showing warning messages about apps running for too long. I suspect a malware infestation. Please advise.

If you are scared that you are infected by malware the only "safe" thing to do is a full data wipe.
You dont have clockworkmod installed do you? Would be helpfull to have a full copy of the system to analyze it. I think clockworkmod would be a perfekt method to get a copy of the whole system.
sorry i don't know how to solve this. maybe it's time for you to change to some other ROMs...

Well not exactly scared but I was just wondering about the origin of that "Hello world" message. "PMEasyView"? I wasn't able to find any app or developer by that name among the apps installed on my phone. Just was wondering if anyone here knew thats all. I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick, does it install Clockworkmod too? Or do I have to do it separately?

I did install CM 7.1(2.3.7) but I didn't quite like it..I mean don't get me wrong..CM 7.1 is awesome but the ADW launcher kept crashing on me, something was eating up the battery way to fast and this is weird but I found that the sound quality(headphone and speaker) had actually deteriorated..maybe I didn't get some settings right but anyways I decided to roll back to the Motorola stock 2.2.2 froyo JRDNEM_U3_3.4.3-36-1.7 and wait until CM9 was out.
Thanks for the replies guys..really appreciate you taking the time.

If adw doesn't work for you, you can download another one from the market. I use go launcher and it works without any problems and damn fast. You should give it a try.

Well it's typical behavior of mallware - I dont have information, that stock task manager will inform you, that some process is running more than x minutes ... try wipe to factory settings and you'll be sure.
Rooting doesn't install Clockworkmod. You only get superuser after rooting. Install 2nd-init and you get Clockworkmod.
You should start using Droidwall and AVG antivirus pro. Try limit the data freedom running in the background.
Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll wait for CM9. I do have Droidwall installed and I've scanned my phone thoroughly with Lookout Security but nothing was detected. Is it possible that the firmware posted here, the 2.2.2 India one is somehow infected?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093352
I took another screenshot of the supposed malware today, this time without the task manager message. I was able to dismiss the task manager message by pressing the search key somehow.
I have seen exactly that same message today. I thought I have been fairly careful about Malware. However, there was an update that was installed from marketplace today.
I wonder if it is possible to look at an update history.

Is the message window in your case appearing under the exact same circumstances as mine? Which ROM are you using? And also if its possible could you do an inventory of the all the apps installed on your phone, then perhaps we can pinpoint the source. Thanks for the reply.

You need to remove Xposed, edit your build.prop and then reinstall Xposed in order to stop this from happening.

There is if you go to system settings>applications>application manager> swipe all the way to the right to turned off. It will be there, select it and turn it back on.
And as I said if you just force stopped it it would probably turn back on in 24 hours. If after a couple days you can't do anything just save all your settings via Kies and Odin back to stock, re root and Kies back your settings

Just go to the Samsung App store and just look for HealthService or just reinstall S-health.. If you don't have the Samsung apps APK just download it from the site. Hopefully it works!
Try clearing app data on the service if you can
Could you fully delete the two apks (S Health and Health Services) from the system/priv-app folder, uninstall Xposed, restart the phone, then install shealth and health service with updated apks from the web (download, unzip, and install as normal apks).
I still can't post links to updated apks on the web as I'm a new poster, so either google for SHealth 3.2 or type mediafire, then ".com/" and then: download/w1bdd7665aiyogo/S-Health3_2.zip
Install, open, and let them update (if they will - probably won't be needed as both files are in the zip and both are current) and you should be good to go.
For what it's worth, I most recently installed Shealth AFTER having installed Xposed after also having started with a clean wipe (Oden) and having run the bloatware deletion .bat file from another thread (My order was wipe, root, SU, debloat, Xposed, then SHealth update manually as it wouldn't on its own).
I had removed the SHealth files from the .bat file, but I found I was stuck with an older version of SHealth that wouldn't update (I assume I also blew out some required Samsung updater with the bloatware bat). I used the above method to update my SHealth app to the latest version (I wanted the stress feature). In the end, I have Xposed running all sorts of things and current SHealth apps that work fine.
If you go into Titanium Backup, you should be able to turn it back on there. It's the same as "unfreezing" an app. In titanium, click on the app, and then click "defrost" .
If you also notice, any app that you turned off in the application manager, will show up as "frozen" in titanium backup.

Tasker Profile KingRoot Install

I have a profile that installs Kingroot on boot. BUT it requires AutoInput for it to work properly. Also, my profile is directed towards my internal SD card pointing it to file KingRoot-4.1.0.249.apk

Thanks a bunch IceTwig. I got it partially working, but it hangs at clicking to start root for me. I'll need to further investigate the autoinput plugin. There is definitely a learning curve, it's like learning tasker all over again. I'll follow up again when I make more progress on it.
But what about the Xposed install you mentioned in the other thread?

dunno why I left that off. I was trying to make the profile work whether it was a new install or a re-install. A new install had the "NEXT" option because its listing the permissions and it wants you to scroll further.

Apologies, I wasn't clear enough......... Open Tasker, under this Profile > Root task, hit the "+" (plus sign) to add to the task, select "Plugin", select "Autoinput", pick "Action", click on the "Pencil" at the top right to edit, scroll down to "Advance" and follow the previous instructions. Step by step instructions would be awesome....for people like me who are new to this proceedure. Thanks

It took me more than several tries to get it to work, and if I had to do it again, it would probably take me the same, not because I don't know how to do it, but with reboots, hangs and phone not doing what I want it to. Hence why instead of instructions, I made the profile. Most of the instructions are already there, and Tasker is NO easy task to get around if you are not familiar with it. Hope that makes sense.

You could try changing dpi to 160.
Same thing here...I installed it on my phone, downloaded the maps I wanted, and copied them over to my HU. They're in a hidden directory, I forget the name ATM.
The settings were blank too but you can get to them by tapping the bottom of the screen in navigation mode I think.

I checked where the maps are stored, if changing the DPI doesn't work for you and you need to copy them over from another device.
They are in 'sdcard/Android/data/com.here.app.maps/files/.here-maps/diskcache-v4'
...I just copied the whole directory over. After moving one map you should be able to see the 'download' button on the head unit.
As mentioned, the settings can be accessed by tapping the bottom of the screen in 'drive' or 'navigation' mode.

As mentioned, the settings can be accessed by tapping the bottom of the screen in 'drive' or 'navigation' mode.

Thanks
I will check it out

You need to be rooted. Then install any of the dpi changing apps on the play store. You can also install "xposed" and use "app settings" module.

I used app setting module and tried to change dpi but nothing happened

I checked where the maps are stored, if changing the DPI doesn't work for you and you need to copy them over from another device.

Just to double check, xposed installer is installed and functioning?
App settings is ticked on in xposed settings?
After finding your app in app settings, dpi is set to 160 then you hit save at the top of app?
If you did all that correctly you should see a difference in window/text size on the application you are trying to display correctly. Try different dpi settings between 160-240.

On your head unit, right?
If you install Here on your phone and download maps they should be there and then you can copy them from your phone to your head unit with a USB stick or SD card or whatever.
