Does the GN3 (Sprint) have to enable volume rocker buttons to skip tracks with the screen off? Coming from and EVO 4G LTE and i know various ROMs had this option baked in. I don't even know if this is native to any stock ROMs. Am I out of luck until the stable ROMs and MODs start rolling out for this thing?
Also, I can't seem to find any app to be able to use the IR blaster? Am i missing something? Do i really have to pay for something from Google Play just to use it? Thanks.
If you are rooted then install xposed framework and use wanam xposed modul. It is having volume skip option. Works with 4.3

The app is called "Watch ON", and there's a button in top right to open the remote panel.

So I switched from the active back to the original s4 and the option I miss the most is the flashlight option by pressing the volume up button on lock. Does anyone know of a way to do this with an app or other hack?

There is a thread about this in the Apps section already.
I am also interested in this. The one thread I found was the one we're you have to download nova or apex launchers but that's not working. Any other way to do this without rooting?

You switched back too? I thought you were happy with your active? I switched back to the s4 today too, I missed the better camera and amount of accessories, plus my active had horrible.call quality (not sure of I had a bad one or what)

I loved the active but I'm with you on accessories. I bought a fairly nice case and there's so many more options for the future. Plus, if I ever want to replace the housing of the device, or even just change the color of the battery door, it'll be much simpler with the original S4. Also I don't think the Active will ever have the ROM and modifications support the S4 has even when/if they eventually get a custom recovery.

I'm on stock TW with Nottach and it doesn't seem to work for me (and a lot of other people). I've tried the shortcut option and the Nottach way (which basically is the same) and neither seem to work.
on any rom except mint jelly all mods have to be done through the xposed installer or nothing will work.you have to place the nottach Xposed apk on your sd card (or on phone storage i suppose) then you have to install with an app called xposed installer which you can get from the xposed thread. install the framework thru the xposed installer. After installing hit the module button top right and check the xposed module apk..All mods are done from there or nothing works. also when changing colors make sure the switch top right on the color choosing screen is turned on or again nothing works. give it one more try..

Don't get me wrong, I would love to do this as a flashable MOD for my DeOdexed stock (1st Gen P-Rom) without having to install anything else and I encourage anyone that can do it. I just pointed out the other thread in the APPs section so people interested can see if there is any further information in that thread that they might want to check out.
I think the "X-Posed" Mod and Nottach's contribution is awesome and potentially one of the best things that can happen for this phone, but just a simple MOD for the torch to work via volume keys sure would be nice.

I have xposedinstaller and use nottach for more than trying to get the torch to work and nottach works fine. For some reason it just doesnt work for torch
Sent from my SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
seems a little buggy on the torch..This is what works for me. With screen off, power button on,power button off, then volume up. Then it works, pretty much have to do it every time but at least it works that way for me. Also the setting for long press of brightness icon seems to work all of the time. Hope this works for you.

Doesn't work for me. Neither does switching music tracks with the volume keys. Anything involving volume keys just won't work using Xposed for me. :'( But the brightness shortcut works fine, I just wish the actual button hotspot was a little larger; I generally have to be sure to touch the very center of the icon for it to work.
Right now I'm just using Flashlight LED Genius, which turns on the torch on the lock screen when you shake it. Seems to work pretty well. And gives me some exercise!

Hey Guys
Does anyone know if there is a way to disable the volume buttons on the side of the S4 I9505?
Im tired of the volume being changed or muted during the day just because the buttons were pressed by accident.
Any info appreciated.
Chris
hy,
i found no solution for this in stock rom, but in some third party lockscreen-app's like widgetlocker, there is an option for exactly this feature.
I tried this a few minutes ago and it devinitively works without root. Also some aokp/cm - roms offer this option, if I'm not mistaken.
edit: sry i misread! U want to disable volumebuttons general...... my proposed solution was just for phone wake-up / lockscreen
I use Volume Locker for locking the volume. I always keep knocking the volume buttons and this app is great for automatically putting it back.
Thanks guys

Hello. I think that title made everything clear. I think that many of galaxy S4 owners need this feature. I know that there is 3Minit app which can do this, but it requires custom recovery and it adds to much unnecessary stuff. I want to keep my phone almost up to warranty. It’s rooted but it isn't very noticeable So I saw that there are simple mods for galaxy S3 that can enable this feature. So would it be very difficult to create something like this for galaxy S4? One remark, it would be much more convenient if long press would change sound and short press - skip tracks. Thanks.

As a workaround, you can try C Volume Rocker from playstore.

Installing xposed framework, and nottach xposed tweaks (you can search for them), will give you a volume button to change tracks options, among other things, and only requires a rooted phone. Very simple to do, you basically just install 2 apks.
Xposed and 3Minit change a lot, mostly visually. I, like the OP author, need only one or two mods without messing up the whole phone or the layout.

I agree! This is the best option for that

So yeah, tried Nottach Xposed and it corrupted status bar (Wi-Fi icon sometimes was not showing signal strength, battery percentage become large). And when I decided to install 3Minit it completely ruined all operating system. I did everything as in tutorial. Then I reflashed everything and same happened again. So wouldn’t it be great to have only pure skip track mod?
Go for Xposed framework and Wanam Xposed mod. Works flawlessly on my phone.

If you are rooted, you can use Xposed framework. The framework allows you make all types of changes to your ROM, even stock. Instructions and a detailed description are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
Once you have framework installed, you can choose which mods you want to run, a list can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327541
I am currently using GravityBox with 4.3 rooted stock and it works great.
Thanks

Thanks. It worked. Installed Xposed and then gravity box and de-linked the volume.. but to modify the notification volume i had to install another app.. sound under settings wouldn't let me do it. so installed volume + and it worked.

From your home screen, if you hit the volume up or down, you will see a small settings icon appear next to the volume bar that comes up.
From there, you can change volume of media, notifications, and ringtones separately.

Yes there is:
Root
Install Xposed Framework
Install Gravity Box module
Configure Gravity Box's:
- Navigation key actions
- Statusbar tweaks
There are additional modules that add double tap functionality. Search XDA, the Xposed repository or Google.

I dont see any that offer the Double Tap to wake function, i see many posts looking for it though.

Not sure if you ever found an answer to this since it's been about a month. Gravity Box does have a "double tap to sleep" function, but it doesn't have a "double tap to wake" one. In order for dt2w to work, you need to flash a kernel that supports that feature. I know there are kernels for the Nexus 5 with this feature, but not sure about the Nexus 10. Plus, I've heard having dt2w enabled eats battery like no other, since the digitizer always has to be on.
I'm using next launcher instead of stock
You can customize geztures and taps
