[Q] Long press volume to skip tracks - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I think that title made everything clear. I think that many of galaxy S4 owners need this feature. I know that there is 3Minit app which can do this, but it requires custom recovery and it adds to much unnecessary stuff. I want to keep my phone almost up to warranty. It’s rooted but it isn't very noticeable So I saw that there are simple mods for galaxy S3 that can enable this feature. So would it be very difficult to create something like this for galaxy S4? One remark, it would be much more convenient if long press would change sound and short press - skip tracks. Thanks.

As a workaround, you can try C Volume Rocker from playstore.

Installing xposed framework, and nottach xposed tweaks (you can search for them), will give you a volume button to change tracks options, among other things, and only requires a rooted phone. Very simple to do, you basically just install 2 apks.

Xposed and 3Minit change a lot, mostly visually. I, like the OP author, need only one or two mods without messing up the whole phone or the layout.

I agree! This is the best option for that

So yeah, tried Nottach Xposed and it corrupted status bar (Wi-Fi icon sometimes was not showing signal strength, battery percentage become large). And when I decided to install 3Minit it completely ruined all operating system. I did everything as in tutorial. Then I reflashed everything and same happened again. So wouldn’t it be great to have only pure skip track mod?

Go for Xposed framework and Wanam Xposed mod. Works flawlessly on my phone.

[REQUEST] Software buttons

Hello XDA,
Is there any way to enable software buttons on Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505)?
There was the way to modify the build.prop file by adding the line, but it does not work.
I just hate hardware buttons and I do really want to disable them...

I have them enabled with AOKP but I'm not sure how to disable them. Anyone know how?
Edit: found out how to disable them. Delete their lines in /system/usr/keylayout/xxxxx_touchkey.kl and reboot. Obviously have another way of navigating before doing that. LMT or some other app.

Stock Samsung Keyboard Long Press Duration

Has anybody been able to change the long duration for the stock keyboard? Love the keyboard, however it takes way to long to get the comma, question mark, etc. Searched for a few methods on here, but nothing has worked.
I want this change badly as well. It takes way too long to get the punctuation. I know swiftkey let's you adjust this but I love this new Samsung keyboard so much I don't want to leave it.
The stock keyboard sucks the dictionary doesn't even suggest new words added
there is an xposed framework file that can change this timeout.
I rooted the phone, installed xposed, unrooted
works great!

[Q] Overriding Buttons without 3Minit

3Minit was pretty great. But development stopped and it was pulled from the app store. And I have neither the framework nor the corresponding settings app backed up anywhere to re-install. Honestly, cosmetics aren't a big deal to me, so I can perfectly well get by without most of those functions. But the one thing I care about is also the one thing I haven't found a fitting alternative for: changing button behavior.
To be clear, here is what I used to have my device doing:
Menu Long Press - Launch Colornote
Home Long Press - Screenshot
Home Double Tap - Recent Apps
Back Long Press - Kill app
Now, I know that there are xposed modules like wanamp that will let me restore my old settings to the back and home button. But I haven't found a solution that lets me alter what the menu button does too. I want to be able to launch Color Note from anywhere with a long press once again.
Solutions?
I also just formatted my hdd and have no backup of the framework..
I hope gary is coming back soon.
could anyone deliver a downloadlink in the meantime?
I would like to use the goldeneye 4.3 rom wit my I9505

Lemme know how it goes. BTW it's an Xposed Module, so you need to have Xposed framework installed first.
True what Joe said. But I have used it on sacs back on 4.3 and blu Kuban ROM.

Swap recents and back soft buttons?

Does anybody know a way to swap the position of the recents and back buttons?

Bump, need this on day one if possible! Will come with custom roms but it's early days.

Yep, it's backwards from what I am used to as weil.
Get a different launcher like Nova Prime. Otherwise, the default launcher doesn't allow it that I am aware of.

is there a way in Nova Prime i cant find it in settings .
found this on one the forums on xda when i was on nexus 6 , works well
dont blame me if it bricks
-First obviously you need be a Root user
-Backup your build.prop to your PC or anywhere (but backup it!)
-Edit build.prop with a Root Explorer using this line:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
you have to add this at the END of the .prop, save and reboot.
(Work with 5.0, 5.0.2, 5.1, 5.1.1 and Android M)
Then Install LMT app

That's crazy, I know I've done it in Nova before. I go in there now and don't see the option either. Sorry about that.
The is only a couple of ways that this can happen outside of editing the framework.res, and that's with a custom ROM or Xposed. No Launcher has the ability, this is a system wide change. There was a guy who could do it for the Nexus 6, if you want to look in the app thread over there. He may be on board for this phone too.
I actually prefer to use 4 across with home on the left, recents on middle leftset to previous app on tap and all apps on long press, search middle right set to search on tap and Goog now on long, and back on the right set to back on tap and kill on long. Cant wait for the boys to get rolling.
Work Around for the back button
There is no way for you to swap the back and recent unless you root your phone.
in the meanwhile, there is a very good solution that doesn't need root but only accessibility to be enabled.
it's called All-in-one Gestures.
you can program the back to be a swipe from the right. it's very convenient and works like charm on all screens.
you may also program other swipes, from left, from bottom, edges, etc....
after you are comfortable with this solution, you can then hide the softkeys and gain extra landscape on your screen.
If you want to flash a custom ROM, I offer these mods in mine. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/development/rom-n6panglerm-mbd08k-v1-0-0-oct-31-t3237495

It's still encrypted
1. Flat Style Bar Indicators (one of ways to get center clock and other taskbar tweaks);
2. RootCloak (necessary in case you use apps that don't work on rooted phone)

Some parts are, I am unable to do things like remap buttons etc and it crashes if you try to do any quick management editing (which is to be expected). On the plus side, the developer has just ordered the 3t and is planning on making a full;y comparable version for us

That's right. But I still have to wait to have device in my hands as it's currently hard for me to assess what it will take and whether it is worth to work on Marshmallow version considering 3T is receiving Nougat in couple of weeks, which seems to be quite different (hopefully more AOSPish) compared to OOS 3.5.
The only one I seem to find a use for is "Ringer and notification unlink" so that I can separately set notification levels. It adds the slider with the others in settings/sound.
Is there any module to auto hide the navbar after a certain time to prevent burn-in?
/e: so trying to manipulate softkeys with GB results in some weird outcomes (e.g. backbutton not working)
I want this function but i can´t find any mod for it
Short press on recents button - Open menu
Long press recent button - open recents
Long press back button - kill app
Include my modules

a must have is "app settings 1.13" for the simple reason you can change orientation, dpi, keep on, and much more on any app

I tried the pro version but couldn't find it so I did a refund. I can only get it to start an app.
That's sad, maybe I've just been using it for so long it seems simple to me. I guess it just wasn't meant to be for you then because it works perfectly on every phone I've ever had including this one.
