hey, i send my broken screen galaxy s4 too samsung in israel and those sons of b*tches formated my device with no reason and without asking me. and no, not wipe data- full format, that formated all my 5000 photos from the last 4-5 years...
i understood that if i want to recover with dr.fone i need UMS, but the galaxy is MTP. so i rooted my S4 even though i didn't want to play with root in this device. then, i saw that i can use the ums only for external memory and not for internal, so i can't use any recovery program.
any advices on what can i do?? it's really important to me...
Galaxy S4 recovery always wipes Internal SD when wiping data. It's a shame really.
I always use Google Plus Backup and Dropbox Backup so I always have a way to recover them.
You should consider doing this next time.

Recover your Images & Videos.
Alright then, as I said here is the solution:
Requirements:
Extra Card Reader(if your phone isn't recognizing by PC)
ZAR recovery -> Get it from here
Now,
Just plug in your Memory card in SdCard Reader (or phone if your PC recognized it as Removable disk)
Code:
Go to Start->Run-> type cmd & hit enter (Command Prompt will be opened)
type chkdsk /x /f "your Drive extension"(without Quotes like [B]f:[/B])
After completion of reading all sectors with command prompt, just close the window & start ZAR Recovery.
In ZAR recovery,
Now, it will detect your drive then choose your Drive.
it will show 3 options -> Choose 1st one for Image & video ( for free )
Give it path to save files of Video & Pics.
Click on Start.
It will recover your Images & Videos. But do it correctly.:good:
Hope you will recover all of your Images & stuff.

anyway to recover my drive? I am sure the stuff is there somewhere right? Sh*t.. I wish I had done this on my home PC and not the office PC.
any help appreciated
Haha!
you overwrote your harddrive!
Since I don't have any idea what the tool you used does, I will (randomly) suggest http://www.partition-recovery.com and their program PR.exe. If the tool does a lazy format or bootsector write (just rewrites the 1st few sectors) PR may work. You can download a test version which won't operate fully but which will say if it finds anything to recover. If the XDA tool actually writes substantial amounts then this won't help.
There are quite a few tools which will scan the disk for anything that looks like data and recover what they can. Of course, if the tool you used actually overwrote the whole disk then you'd have to go a specialist company - and data receovery might still be possible - but this is likely to cost.
Good luck.
PS
I don't think "Haha" was a very kind comment. Not my idea of a "solutions provider" to go to - no matter how expert they might think they are.
Still, it did make me decide to sign up to the forum to post this in case it helps.
I downloaded the demo of PR.EXE and after scanning my drive, it appears that all data is still there... so I have purchased the full version of PR.EXE and it appears promising that I will be able to recover the most important stuff and simply restore my system (needed a restore anyway).
Thanks for the tip!

Hi all,
I tried yesterday this mod, messing with swap and stuff at the sd card and installed swapper2 from market, but after hitting "on" at the app and tried to reboot, my phone died... and by that I mean completely died...
It doesn't power up, it doesn't boot at CWM neither at bootloader (pink screen).
When I plug it to the charger nothing happens and it doesn't get recognised by the PC also.
I tried booting without the sd card, i tried reformatting it (with swap or without swap) but again... nothing.
I tried to flash the stock firmware (dload folder at sdcard and stuff) but again it doesn't start the bootloader...
Any suggestions before I through it off the window much appreciated
EDIT: I was on latest Aurora...
You may have better luck accessing it through Linux.
If you can get access then you can restore a dd backup from someone.
That program uses root, right? And you put swap partition as mmcblk0p2?
If so, then it simply replaced your main bootloader with the swap file and you have to take it to repair service.
The correct way would've been to use mmcblk1p2, as external SD uses mmcblk1.

You have to get phone boot from USB and then use USB JIG which contains bootloader to boot phone and then use some flash tool to flash bootloader to phone. It's very hard and I have no idea how get it boot from USB. Another solution is write bootloader directly to internal sd. I can't help you more.

Can someone upload the mmcblk0p2 file? I think is inside /dev/block/ folder.
Does anyone knows how to boot something from the sd card? I don't know what... another ROM, another OS...

Can you try to make a partition on your sd card and dd the bootloader to that partition? After that, give the partition a bootable flag with fdisk and insert to phone. Try to start in many different variations, press the volume keys etc. If the soc bootloader has enabled a function to boot from sd card, somehow it would boot.
The emmc is soldered onto the motherboard. I don't think there are any ways to desolder it or replace.
Of course there must be another way to boot directly from sd card by using some pins, but I have not taken my phone apart to seek on that. Might do it someday though.
JTAG is the thing that would help you definately, but I don't think you have that and the box is pretty expensive too.
-EDIT-
I found this link, it says the phone should go in emergency download mode if loading flash disk fails, do you get any messages in Windows or by listing lsusb in Ubuntu do you get any result when connected with USB? There has to be a way to boot that emergency mode.

I don't get any indication when I connect the phone to any OS. I will send it to service tommorow and if nothing happens I will give it a try then, because it seems little complicated.
I will try the first thing you suggested (with the bootable bootloader) today. If you could answer the above question of mine it would be great

I'm currently learning how to use Fdisk in unbutu to fix my own problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694914
Here's something that may help you out:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingANewHardDrive
1) Initiate fdisk with the following command:
sudo fdisk /dev/sdX
2) Fdisk will display the following menu:
Command (m for help): m <enter>
Command action
a toggle a bootable flag
b edit bsd disklabel
c toggle the dos compatibility flag
d delete a partition
l list known partition types
m print this menu
n add a new partition
o create a new empty DOS partition table
p print the partition table
q quit without saving changes
s create a new empty Sun disklabel
t change a partition's system id
u change display/entry units
v verify the partition table
w write table to disk and exit
x extra functionality (experts only)
Command (m for help):
For: sudo fdisk /dev/sdX, where sdX is the disk or partition you want to modify.
If you don't know the disk or partition name, "ls /dev/sd*" should list all drives attached to the system.
From there, just use:
Command action
a toggle a bootable flag
I have not tried this, because I don't need to, but it seems to be what you're looking for. Hope it works for you.
If someone has better information, then please add to this. I just started learning unbuntu yesterday, and may not be completely correct.
If I come across anything that may help you, I'll let you know, and hope you'll do the same for me.
UPDATE: Also try disk utility in ubuntu. It's a lot easier and it has a gui.
Another UPDATE: http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2010/09/linux-fdisk/
Look for "6. Toggle the Boot Flag of a Partition Using fdisk Command a"

Please provide more information. How did your photos disappear? Saying they're 'lost' isn't very informative.
To have your internal storage recognised, make sure before connecting your G2 to the PC you go Settings > PC Connection > Set USB connection method and set it to "Media Sync (MTP)". This will set up USB connectivity for transferring images, music, videos and documents.
Unless you give us any extra information about how the files got deleted, there isn't specific help we can give you.
so far what I can tell you:
if files got deleted by mistake... well, its easy then.
I suggest rooting your device - ioroot
Than install Undeleter
Try this and post us the outcome.

Two things from my experience. First one has to be sure to select the correct mode for the USB connection and there may well be ".nomedia" files in directories where images are stored which would prevent say Gallery from seeing them.

I just said to you if you root your phone, you will probably recover your files but if you dont have root acces you can recover your some folders maybe it will be hurt. So you need to think which one is important "varranty of the phone or recoverable data". But maybe you recover some folders, not all via usb otg. It wont overwrite your old data so if you dont wanna be root (i really dont understand you why you dont wanna be root ) you must use some app on play store and recover your pics and others.. ))
Hi,
I ran over my phone. The screen does not work anymore. When I connect the phone to my computer, I get a notification saying that the device can perform faster. So the computer obviously sees the phone. I also see the phone in the device manager, but I do not see it in my computer. The only reason I want to access it, is to download some pictures that were stupidly saved on the device instead of the sd card. Any ideas how to access my pictures?!
Thanks,
G
p.s. My phone backs up pictures to my google+ account, but I am not sure if it does that to ALL pictures, or only to the ones that were on the sd card?! No way for me to check as of right now, what pictures did in fact got backed up.

If you did have USB debugging enabled, you can try copying the entire content through ADB.
Use 'adb pull /sdcard/ /sdcard/'. This will copy all internal files into your C:\SDcard directory. Be advised, this could take quite a while depending on how much data it is.
