Samsung Galaxy Tab (10.1) Coming Soon. Similar specs?

Well, I just got a tweet that this tab is coming this spring. It is EXTREMELY STYLISH! Its going to have the anticipated Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) OS. Sounds interesting. Anyone plan on getting this tablet? How do you think it will affect the G-Tablet market?

Good catch. Its amazing that they're creating tabs now a days without the basic features such as USB and HDMI. Again, this puts the G-Tablet ahead of the game.

AND No SD card slot, SIM CARD only.

Dont forget the high price also..

The reason for no USB/HDMI is cause they want to sell you a docking station probably for $100 with those ports, as for the no SD card, thats just dumb, but maybe they will be releasing different units with higher capacity and that would make sense to not release a unit wiht an SD slot.

Personally I wouldn't miss the lack of usb slot. I can easily copy stuff via the proprietary usb adapter or wifi explorer etc. I've also never found the need to hook up a tablet to a TV for HDMI but I guess that's a requirement for some. As for the potential price - yeah that could be a killer. Still, lots of options on the horizon. We'll soon see which ones stick...

Don't forget about the upcoming Kal-El quad-core tablets. They're "promised" to be shipping by August, which means manufacturers are already working on them.

they are not prromised they will ship by August, They promised that the manufactures get it in August and then will the devices come in Q1-Q2 2012.
But anyway i think im gonna buy this, if the pricing is not to high. Clove.co.uk has set it to 600 £ atm, but that is just a guess from them, but if that is the priceing im gonna buy it.

Would you consider getting a 7" version of the SGS2?

So after owning a SGS2, would you consider a 7" version of it? HELL THE FRAK YEAH I WOULD! Esp for videos. I have to re-encode my MKV's just to be able to watch them on my TF101, so being able to watch movies w/o re-encoding is a big plus for me. Of course there are other methods to watch movies on a Tegra2 device but I prefer natively.

But then again, Tegra3 is hopefully coming out at the end of the year & that has me considering if I should of not but at least with a 7" tablet, it's easier to carry around than a 10" tablet on the go.

It appears that's going to be a "medium" device.
Just my opinion, but if I'm going to be paying that much (that being a very high price) I want the best, compared to what's in the market.
If I was getting something this fall, I'd either wait till next year to get a quad-core GPU, ultra-high resolution display (MAYBE Super AMOLED ultra high res)
Plus I'd want it to have Ice Cream.

True. if the price is too much then I won't consider getting one. If it's affordable then I would consider it.
I'll be getting a Quad Core tablet when it comes out but having a smaller tablet has it's advantages too.
I believe you could run ICE CREAM on that hardware down the road.
With this, it will keep me busy until the Quad Cores come out in the winter time. Of course, this is based on if it does come out during the fall as speculated.

i hope u werent talking about using it as a phone, like some have with the 1st gen galaxy tab....
but using it as a tab, then yes, of course.

I have both 7" galaxy tab and sgs2 (was sgs til a few days ago)
If they have the spec of the sgs2 with a 7" screen it would be awesome! The tab only lacks the super amoled screen against the sgs, but run a duel core processor and amoled and it would be the best tablet IMO
Oh and those questioning the tab being overpriced, carphone are selling em sim free for £250 to clear (limited stock in stores only)

for 250 pounds I'd buy one but atm for tablets you can't beat the ipad2 (hw/price wise), those ipads are so cheep and the android tablets so expensive
google should give part of it revenue from the market to the hw manufacturer, so they can lower their prices and be competitive with the ipads

I would get one only if it supported NTFS. What is the point being able to play full res videos/movies when you are limited to only 4GB on FAT32.

I've already got one, it's called a Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Unless you want to play high-end games it does everything just fine including playing any media I throw at it.

Isn't that essentially the Note 10.1?

Well first let me say this is the coolest thing i've seen on here, i know nothing about phone/tablet hardware but i know a LOT about computer hardware, since this is a tablet would a laptop GPU work in it? Also if possible you should try and take a 4G antenna from another tablet and put it in here, Also could you give us detailed specs? Like the PPI and such of the screen?

That's a good idea. We've been researching about the 4G module, and, actually testing it.
The screen we're testing now is an HD 1024x768px, this one is a normal IPS screen (132PPI from LG), but there's a better one comming. I'll update as soon as it arrives here.
For the 4G modem, the main challange is to find a module thin enough to fit on the casing. On the picture attached you can see the left prototype has 3G module in (A 4G one will fit too), and, the right one is much thinner, and, a 4G module doesn't fit

I think the dimensions of the nexus 7 is prefect, yours looks a bit more like kindle fire HD, personally not a fan of it but I'd still use it . Also what are your plans for the speakers and GPU?

Thanks for the comments. For the GPU it'll be the ARM's Mali400 MP (4 Cores Version), the same being used by the Galaxy S3. The CPU will be clocked at 1.6GHZ, so it'll be smooth.
Now we're thinking about the Firmware, as our prototype is now running on Stock Android, but my idea is to do something more impressive.
Which firmware would you love to see running on it? Cyanogen?

Cyanogenmod would be great, if it's smaller though (think 7 inches) think Paranoid Android.
What would really differentiate it, would be if you already had a dual boot preinstalled on it with a little taste of everything. i.e. MIUI, CM10, and one more ultra customizable ROM (I suppose CM10) with themes that could be applied straight through the software. I understand this would probably be a pain to do, but it would make your tablet the MOST versatile tablet out there.
Also, consider like Asus, you may want to consider shoving a port on the bottom for a keyboard dock. Big fan of keyboards...
(Yes I understand I'm practically spamming you with ideas and not many of them are possible, nonetheless, lots of ideas are better than none... no?)

Would you consider a proposal to the cyanogenmod team? It'll be nice to see a highly customizable stock firmware on a tablet..

Ain't using separate 4G module too expensive? I don't think there should be any problem in fitting it onboard if you integrate it into one PCB design.
I'd like to see all unused cpu I/Os breaked out into set of pads onboard and documented, like UART, second USB port, I2C bus, FIMC interfaces and so on.
Also, don't get me wrong but if this project doesn't get realised (I really wish it does) - please publish non-NDA documentation. :]

MicroSD, maybe a USB port (unless it's too thick). Sounds pretty siiiick

This goes straight to my Christmas wish list!
But instead of a crippled Cyanogenmod I'd rather see dual-booting to Ubuntu and perhaps some Linaro builds. Staying close to Samsung SGS3 stock, may be a good idea for compatibility issues.
USB3 + HDMI + Front-facing Cam + JTAG over USB support (1149.7, NIDnT) + possibly UART HW debug
But perhaps more importantly, everything should be easily accessible from outside your platform so we can help hacking it back into shape when something goes wrong! Second, make sure we can freely mess with the boot configuration... I'd be happy to help sponsoring the low profile SMT DIP switch for boot config.
If you have space problems you should seriously consider using a quad-core (Krait) Snapdragon S4 Pro (MSM8960T) PoP SoC instead. Because if not, you'll need external modem support. So in your current configuration, what modem are you using? If you use the Intel XMM6260 you'll need a lot more support components, AFAICT, unless their new flagship (XMM7160) has managed even more integration somehow.

Exynos 4 going to be outdated soon.
Regardless, I hope this tablet sees the light of day. A tablet that lets you easily install custom ROMs by default has been long overdue.
(Or, yes, an ubuntu tablet, though I'm not sure if even A15 would be fast enough.)

NFC, it HAS TO HAVE NFC dont build it into the back cover, if i were to get this i would paint the back and throw some LED's in it, i cant do that with my nexus 7

Well, this is a great idea First I would consider not using 4G if you don't want to go in an expensive way... I would also consider using Stock Android ROM for the fans out there (like for example with the G Nexus) Processor you can use the powerful one from the Galaxy Note 10.1, but I also like tegra processors.

Kingsing W8 (cheapest Windows tablet- 100$)

Did anyone bought Kingsing W8? I got it few days ago.
This is seams to be cheapest Windows 8.1 tablet.

It has great hardware for that price. Some would say that 1Gb is not enough but I have this tablet and I can say it is. Tablet is a fast, fluid. 1Gb ram on this optimized OS is enough for a tablet. Google Chrome and Internet Explorer can without any problem show all sites, games can also run smoothly. (Despicable me is working great)
All sites tell that this CPU can run on 1.8ghz but Intel Atom processor Z3735G for me works at 1.33 GHz. Is there any way to enable "turbo" or what?

yes, i see gizchina has reported that this is the cheapest windows 8.1 quad core smartphone at $100, i guess it's official price, not for reseller, and also know good news that Kingsing s2 and Kingsing W8 has a giveaway activity from 1949deal. This looks like a better deal, not sure if it is a scam, though. At least it is from aliexpress, so you should get your money back.

Best, cheap 8-inch Windows Tablet's the TW801. Hands down.
I picked up the TW801 from MicroCenter open Box for $118. Best $118 I ever spent. It's got a reliable HDMI-out, a Full-sized USB 3.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a miniUSB for charging (and you can also use it for data, I tried).
I run Fedora 17 (I'm in a Linux 101 course at my community college) using VMware while running Chrome and Amazon Kindle all at the same time while taking notes in Chrome--and I use a Motorola Lapdock for a second screen. This thing runs absolutely brilliantly. Only downside is the pathetic battery life. But for about $120, it blows the Dell Venue 8 Pro, Lenovo Miix2 8-inch and the rest of the 8-inch tablets (for me) way out of the water. I've been able to play 1080p videos on a 60hz TV with minimal stutter at the beginning and smooth sailing from then on (using YouTube). I'm sure I wouldn't have a problem watching anything else, either. If the Venue 8 Pro can handle games, this one probably can too, though the only thing I tried on it was Second Life, haha, and that ran decent.

I've bought this tablet since 2 weeks ago and it was great... But now it won’t turn on anymore. I guess it happened after some auto updates installed. Do you have any idea....? Thanks.

Lucky you. In europe you can't buy that tablet i found it on internet. And was like woow i want. But imposible to buy here. Yes for like 220euro way to overpriced.
But yeah realy nice tablet for that price witg full usb 3.0

The 5-Point Multi-Touch is a weak point of this tablet.

Well after an interminable wait, largely due to US customs sitting on it for 8 days, the W8 finally arrived last week. After 6 days of using it I am more than impressed. Very responsive, and certainly fast enough for the sort of things you do on tablets. The cameras aren't too impressive but that isn't a priority for me. Using a full windows desktop on an 8" widescreen is a bit of an interesting experience but you can do it. I think I'll pick up stylus as my fingers ain't all that dainty! Battery life isn't stellar but it is no worse than my nook HD+, and the display is a whole lot better than the nook's. Overall worth the $116 and quite pleased with my purchase.

W8 Windows version?
Does anyone know the exact Windows version that these tablets use?
I have one that has a standard Win 8 install but the touch is not operational.
The touch is working as it operates when I did the recovery process, so I am assuming that it just doesnt have the correct version installed
Any ideas?

Smart move I guess. Throw it in a different box and pretend it's new. Sounds like an htc stunt. This makes sense though, considering the battery issue with this model.

Its technically still one of the best android tablets for CPU and GPU. I would of loved to have seen it with the Tegra X1 but with the tablet market not really strong, even apple is having issues with the market, I can understand not updating it.

It's truly seems to be one of the best performing tablets at this price point, i'am very interested in it vs Nexus 9, what would be your opinion? Only thing i'am concerned in is screen ratio, how good it is for e-book reading? And is there enough estate for general browsing? I own some pretty crappy Chinese 10" Onda tablet and looking for an upgrade. Though i don't know if i would use Shields gaming environment to the max.

As long as you know how to change the system DPI to 240 then its great, I personally hate the stock DPI that they put on it, with the stock DPI it literally just feels like an enlarged phone. But as soon as you change it to 240 then its great.

I use mine for reading books, specifically pdf books of networking materials, and it works really well for that. The screen is amazing for comics. The tablet is a gaming beast and not much can touch its gpu capabilities. Admittedly, I don't do much gaming but I did do a playthrough of ff9 with ePSXe without a HITCH. It's without a doubt a gaming beast when it comes to android devices.

Shield Tablet is getting marshmallow for sure but the next one after is more than likely but not guaranteed.
Fair warning though:
The custom roms on this device have audio issues that happen randomly and it can be annoying. I haven't found a rom that don't have this issue, some are worst than others. There hasn't been a solution to it either from what I've seen.

The nexus 9 has a better resolution, 2048x1536 vs the 1920x1200 on the shield. The CPUs are a 64bit 2.3Ghz dual core on the N9 and a 32bit 2.2 Quad on the ST. I haven't used an N9 so I can't really add anymore than that.

The shield has an SD card slot, front facing speakers, and wide screen. I read ebooks all the time on the shield and think it's perfect for that. The nexus might get slightly better battery life, but not much more. I was deciding between the two and picked the shield because with the thinner screen I can type very well with my thumbs. My 10.1 tablet is just too big to type on. I imagine with the wider screen the nexus would have that same problem. I would buy the shield for 300 bucks right now if I didn't own one so at 200 it's a steal.

Probably when all tablet and smartphone are x64...they, maybe, developera start to create app that take advantage of x64 CPU...
But there is the possibility that they start to use gpgpu even on smartphone and this is an advantage for tegra hardware

Yeah it's hard to say. But at 200 bucks the shield blows away anything in its price range. And I much prefer the wide screen and front facing speakers. I spent a lot of time debating the nexus and the shield in my head and I just didn't want a 4:3 and I really wanted an SD card slot.

They're equal for multicore performance but the single core performance is much stronger with the 64bit variant. In everyday use, you won't notice it.

Thats the thing, most of the users of this tablet use it for gaming. Its a shame the new tablet doesn't have 64bit, but at least it is worth the price.

According to this benchmarks seems like if i would not care about Shield PC streaming or exclusive game in pure performance Nexus is doing better? As i see single core almost 2x better and this would be utilized most in applications not optimized for multi-core? And multi-core is around the same level...
But maybe Marshmallow on Shield could bring another results.

Had both, but sold the N9 some weeks ago. My problem with it was, i play a lot WOT Blitz and on the Nexus with max graphics the fps drops from 60 to between 50 and 35 after some minutes of gaming. But the Shield Tab stays most of the time on 60fps and if it drops its still between 50-60 fps and this with maxed out Graphics!

Nexus 9 put more pressure on GPU with higher screen resolution and use a dual core CPU

Anyone who has the K1 can you answer some questions for me?
Does your bottom speaker move? i noticed earlier that I can make it click by pressing on it lightly :S also is there only 1 speaker behind each grill? the speaker on the top I can feel the vibration of how loud it is but the bottom one I can't.
Think it's faulty but that's why i'm asking.
