[Q] GT-I9500 Bad Flash, Grey Market, Locked??? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I just purchased a GT-I9500 as a new unlocked international phone. Seller stated box was open item so White cover could be installed and phone tested. The phone powers and seems ok but upon inspection the box IMEI and contents differ. Box seems to of originally had more than two stickers with the IMEI (B & C) are still on the box. I assume there was an "A" at one time. Contents seem OK but the phone will not register to my US Carrier ( Tried Automatic and Manual ). Search will not find a carrier. Signal bars are Grey and seem to have what I'm assuming is a circle with a line running across the bottom of the bars. My guess is that it is a lock symbol and the device is not unlocked. The phone reports a serial number of 0123456789ABCDEF. I have an unlocked G4 I337 that will register with the SIM I'm testing with.
My guess is the phone has been unboxed, re-flashed, S/N removed and sold as a International Unlocked phone. Or it is a cheap knock off possibly in an OEM box. I can't read the users manual but it references
I installed Kies for Mac and it will recognize my S4 I337 but this phone continues to say please connect a device. I have tried all USB modes.
*#1234# info if this helps
AP: I9500XXUAMDK
CP: I9500XXUAMDK
CSC: I9500JAMDK
Status says IMEI SV 78
Advice? Return it to where I purchased it? Fix the S/N?
OK Genuine Galaxy S4/33/Note II Free App came back with wrong Rom size and wrong screen resolution. It's a FAKE.... But I already have a return authorization.

Return it mate.
You can check hardware by using an app called CPU-Z, that will let you know if it's fake or not.

[Q] Serial number different?

Hey guys. Just curious if anyone else has this issue.
The serial number on my Nexus 4 box is completely different than the serial number listed under settings/about phone/status. The IMEI matches. Now, I didn't take the phone apart or anything to check the serial number that would be listed someowhere inside the device, but I am going to guess it doesnt match what my phone says.
My Galaxy Nexus had the same issue. The serial number on the sticker under the battery was different than the one under settings/about phone/status. I assumed that the issue on the G-Nex came about because I had it unlocked and flashed some various ROMS from time to time. I asked the question in the Gnex forum and no one else seemed to have the problem.
On this phone however, I haven't rooted it or flashed anything. I did unlock the bootloader (to prevent losing everything in the event I do decide to root in the future). The other day I was registering the device with my insurance and needed to get the IMEI and SN. I had both the phone and box and noticed that the Nexus 4 has this issue as well.
Anyone else not match?
Oh, and when I searched I saw a thread over in the GS3 forum where someone else had the same issue but the way it was explained over there doesnt seem to make sense in my situation. That phone was rooted and running custom ROM. When they put stock on the SN matched again. I am running stock and unrooted so not quite the same.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Does the serial number on the phone match the Google Play order sheet? If so, I'd use that one.

The serial number on the Google Play packing sheet is the IMEI number. It says "serial number" but it is the IMEI number. That matches the IMEI on the phone, not the serial number.
I am talking about the serial number on the phone and the serial number on the box. They do not match. The IMEI numbers do match.
The number in the settings menu is the CSSN. What that means, I have no idea.
Well at least you have some idea.
Does anyone else have this problem though? I think it is strange if its only me.
Same problem with my gnex. That is.... Problem on my phone but not other people's. Makes me feel like something I did changed it. But I didn't do anything other than unlock. strange.

Same here, the serial in settings->
about phone->status is completely different than the one on the box. It doesn't even look like it follows the same format. The one on the box does look like it partially matches the IMEI.

Everybody's numbers are different. They don't represent the same thing. The one on the phone is the CSSN and the one on the box is the SSN.
There is no "problem."

Ok thanks for the clarification.

S/N on package does not match to the one stated in "Status" menu

Just got my N4, and noted that the serial number on the package is way different than the one shown in "Status" menu.
No problems with the IMEI, though.
Is this ok?

If you are worried send it back or honestly if purchased from Google they should be the ones you ask not anyone here. although the IMEI is whats used to identify your phone on networks.
Well, If that's the situation with all of Nexus 4 owners here, then I have nothing to worry about. The question is - how many kept the box.

Thanks a bunch.
Out of Curiosity
Since you just received this Nexus and the SN does not match but the IMEI does, would you mind trying something to test a theory I have?
First off, check your hardware version by powering off the unit then powering it back on while holding the volume down button. When it boots you should be in recovery.
Check toward the bottom and see what hardware version you have, is it rev_11?
Next, could you try using your Google Wallet app? I am guessing you will see an error which states: "Device Not Ready" and goes on to state the device is not fully initialized.
My theory is that the mismatched data is also causing some issues with Google Wallet since Google enters these devices into their database with matching SN and IMEI by scanning the box. Since the two don't match it fails to initialize. The only way to fix is to contact Google Wallet Support and they will have you send a bug report. After about 1-2 weeks they will fix the issue in the database and the app will start working once you clear the app data.
I hope you are willing to test, thanks!
Normal. The serial #'s are different. I kept the box. In fact I either keep the box or use a utility knife to cut out all important information on every piece of computer or other electronics equipment that I buy and store it in a filing cabinet. Various information on the labels has saved me grief multiple times (honoring a warranty, downloading proper software that is hardware version dependent, ordering a second identical item, looking for the correct manual, ordering the correct replacement parts, supplying information to tech support, etc.).
So Wallet does work for you? What hardware version do you have? Trying to diagnose an issue I am having.

Outside of a TV or printer, I still have the boxes to all my electronics that are still under warranty (I usually keep them for up to a year past warranty in case I wish to sell it online, much easier to sell when you have the original box and materials).
Same here. The one on the box starts with the normal format 303K, then in the phone its totally different like 04xxxxxxxxxx.... Does anyone have it where both serials match?
Well on the box there's a lot of different numbers. Not only S/N (which mine starts with 304K on the box), as well as SSN (Which is something like 89012....), with a Mfr Date of 04/27/2013.
---------- Post added at 10:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:54 PM ----------
Far as serial number goes, even on the bootloader screen it's listed as something like 04d6e... which isn't the same as on the box, though looking at how the S/N on the phone itself looks, I would say it's an MD5 hash of sort of the SN on the box. Though running the box's SN thru md5sum doesn't yield the same result, so probably something else.

I don't use Wallet.
I was hoping the thread creator could check on that. I provided some instructions if they were willing to test it.
Thanks.

My device is from March 2013 (303K), and the HW rev is indeed 11. However, Wallet is not yet available in my country, so it won't show in Google Play.
I believe the serial number reported in the Status screen of About phone is the Android serial number/ID, not the manufacturing serial number.

[Q] [Urgent, Please Help]: Finding Total Usage Hours in S5 G900F

Hi,
I bought a Galaxy S5 (G900F model) recently and I would like to know the total hours the mobile was used (Turned on Status) as I need to know it is a new one and not a refurbished or already used product.
(Note : I don't require to know the total duration of call being done from my phone rather total duration the phone was on).
Tried looking into Settings->About Phone->Status->Uptime. But it gets reset once the phone is restarted. So I cannot actually say with this whether it has used already or not. Please help me in this and can return them back if it is used already. I tried looking into other threads but none is giving me the option I am looking for. I assume there must be some sort of secret code to find that. Please help me on the same.
Additionally, there is another problem that i am facing now is that, I used Phone Info *SAMSUNG* to check the details of the phone. I see the SAMSUNG SERIAL NUMBER - 0000000000 but a valid IMEI No. and Serial No. But while trying to put the value as what it is in back of the battery, it says it may be refurbished. (It says the same if any no. is given ) My Serial No. is RFXXXXXXXX) But I have no problem in connecting to my mobile network or talking in the phone. Will i be in anyways concerned about this problem? Please help.
NOTE : This device is brand-new and not even rooted and still in STOCK ROM.

[Q] firmware

Hi, I got a videotron (canadian carrier) note 4. Unlock and using it on rogers network. I bought it second hand, and seller didn't told me about the root..... On sammobile site, for the firmware, all canadian carrier have model sm-n910w8 as model #. Is it safe to flash rogers firmware on it? And is there a way to see if knox (probably been tick off) how many time and anyway to reset it. Looking through google but a bit lost. Thanks for your help
Bump
You can boot in download mode to check knox. If tripped it cannot be reset as of yet.
Thanks, that's what I was getting so, no biggies. Now, firmware side, beside sammobile, is that one look ok
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/unbri...alaxy-note-4-sm-n910w8-bell-rogers-telus-etc/
Mm might be for exynos chip note 4.... Not good I guess
Edit #2 http://samsung-updates.com/details/34574//SM-N910W8/BMC/N910W8VLU1ANIH.html
Seem better but not sure
I don't know much about north American models.
http://www.sammobile.com/2014/10/13...plained-by-region-connectivity-and-processor/
my guess is that any n910w8 firmware will work on any n910w8 phone, just different bloatware from carrier.
That's my guess also and as long as it is meant for Canada

installed the one for rogers from sammobile, but upon flashing thought odin, videotron bloat is still there..... and have to contact seller, as I try to set cerberus and says that devices is linked to another account..... Grrrr and lost sellers #. Still have his address. Hope not a stollen devices.
bump
Followed that how to: http://youtu.be/WlHN7XPDvXQ go through all the prossess. Phone optimize the app.... How to get a return to stock, a full clean install. Any better walk through?
Any hint?

Just flash with Odin and then make a hard reset from recovery. Then download cereus. As of about the bloat you need root to remove anything that comes preinstalled
Cerberus is installed, just can't use it cause device is linked to another account...... Settler swear he bought it new... On kijiji.... Kind of funny I guess
It comes preinstalled on a Samsung official firmware? Never seen that

Would be very surprise was pre-installed. someone else with a N4 could confirm. I know that you can make cerberus a system app if rooted, so a hard-reset, from the phone wouldn't erase it, but I flash through odin, should erase all and put new rom.... Seller don't seem 100% legit if can say, He told me that i could get another security app.... he think that it"s might be the place that have unlock the phone that have put it on it,... thinking asking for a refund
And quick info, capacitive buttons, when they light up, do they look like with thin lines over them (thin black lines) or there is no interruption all white with nothing over

lol. looks like you got a fake note 4. the HDC ones have the black lines.

Air command open when button on stylus is pressed, dot show on screen as soon as stylus is about a inch of screen, a cursor like a | show if there is text under and keep pressing the button. Kies see the phone, as a note 4. What HDC mean? Saw a few pic where the line shows on the net. But still trying to get a refund from seller, he told me he wasn't a store, than he told me to give him the phone, he would sell it and pay me after.... Imei on phone and box don't match, and the one on phone, you google it and get result.... At least not blacklisted on protectyourdata.ca and using the phone.
Any input?

Not registered on Network Issue

Hi All,
I'm in a bit of a pickle. I got the S7 a while ago and managed to drop it. Got the screen replaced through my bank insurance but since I've got it back, it is coming up with "Not registered on network" error. It also says "Security Notice: Unauthorised actions have been detected. Restart your device to undo any unauthorised changes." Obviously contacted the repair centre but they won't accept any blame, saying they would not have rooted it. I will continue arguing with them but need my phone so am trying to solve it myself. What I've done so far:
1. The phone is not blacklisted - I've checked that (just incase someone had been a numpty and put it as stolen instead of damaged).
2. Installed software which given me the phone info - it shows knox 0x1 meaning the knox flag has been tripped.
3. Tried manually selecting the network but it comes up with an error "Unable to connect. Try again later" and "No service". Note that when I pop the sim in my backup phone (Blackberry 9900 - going waaaaay back now), it works so the SIM is working fine. The phone is locked to Vodafone.
4. Can't upgrade the software (from 6) as the knox flag has tripped.
5. At present, root existence says No.
6. Have also tried all the usual basics - restarting, restoring to factory settings, turning off wifi/going to flight mode.
The only way of resolving it from what I can tell is rooting it but I am not sure of the process and not sure what I am trying to achieve by doing this. So, would appreciate any suggestions for resolving it and a step by step guide if available. Just frustrated I have an amazing phone under warranty which isn't working like a phone atm... Help appreciated in advance!
Another thing to add - just noticed that the IMEI for the phone is different to the IMEI on the box that I had. Neither of the IMEI are blocked but don't understand what the heck has actually been done to the phone.

Thanks and valid. But given the screen was the only part damaged, I don't understand why they'd bother replacing one of the most expensive parts? Anyway, appreciate the input.
