Ok bought an evo on eBay, after getting rid of my evo for a blackberry and realizing I made a huge mistake. It's used but like new.
I go to the boot screen and it says s-off. Then I select recovery but it goes to an evo with a red triangle.
What can I do?
Thanks

If you can acess the bootloader, I would recommend searching in the rooting wiki and look for a PCIMG file place that in the root of the sd card(hopefully your comp has a media reader) and insert the sd card with that file and the bootloader should detect when you select recovery.
What that file does is resets everything on the phone to stock. if you could find a RUU that might work but if your comp cant see the phone its useless i hope this helps
oh hey just stole this from a post from mattykins(thanks for the link) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060

If you're s off, your rooted. The triangle means you have no recovery. All you need to do is flash a PC36IMG of recovery, using the bootloader. Once you do that, you'll have recovery, and can flash a rom of your choice. That's it. No need to re root or ruu or anything like that. Just recovery, that's it.

or you could install clockwork mod and make it even easier on yourself by installing recovery through there

This would probably be the easiest thing. DL clockwork from the market and install the recovery I prefer amon_ra it will be at the bottom under alternate recoveries. Also do a nand backup as soon as you have a recovery.
I agree with above, just get rom manager from the market and flash a recovery...simple
We're comin from a pure power source.

SUre, give me one sec to upload a file for you. And as the other guys suggested, flashing a recovery using ROM manager would be your easiest bet. HOWEVER, if you dont have the SUPER USER app, (which i bet you do not), rom manager wont work. t herefore you cant flash anything with it.
So give me one sec, and i'll upload what you need to flash, with instructions for ya
EDIT: I attatched a recovery for you. It's Amon Ra V2.3. Download the PC36IMG, and leave it named exactly as it is. Place the file on the main directory (root) of your sd card. Power your phone off completely. Then boot to the bootloader by holding the power and volume down buttons simultaneously. When it gets to the bootloader, after a sec it will scan for files, and find the PC36IMG. It will then ask you if you want to update, so select yes (volume UP). Once it's done flashing, it'll ask you to reboot. Select no. Then choose the 'recovery' option from the bootloader menu. You should now successfully boot into Amon Ra V2.3 recovery. From that point, you can create a backup of your current setup. Then you can perform a full wipe, and then flash the rom of your choice.
And what ever you do DON'T restore a nandroid from your old phone. You will wipe out your 4g if the wimax partition is included in the nandroid.

Ok that worked. I now have Amon ra recovery
But, lol, one more question. Amon ra has changed since I've had an evo.. now when I select backup, it has a list of things I want to back up with "[x]" next to them. Which items should I select? It didn't have that feature in the past so I'm a little lost.

Right, that feature was added after version 1.8.0 (which I still use). I believe you want to check all of the boxes, for your first backup. (I'm not sure if you need to have everything checked after that, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt). I've seen people say that you only need to back up your wimax one time, then keep the file in a safe place (it's your RSA keys), however I just can't see what the problem is with backing it up each time. I kind of like the simplicity of 1.8.0, just hit backup and let it do it's thing. Whatever the heck 1.8.0 automatically backs up on its own, works perfectly fine for me, lol.
So I would just check everything off, and then let it perform the backup.
EDIT: and sorry I don't have more info on that for ya. I'm sure someone else who regulrarly uses ar 2.3 will chime in, and give you a more solid answer. I just simply don't use that recovery, as I never saw a need to 'upgrade' from 1.8.0, because it has always worked flawlessly for me. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'd say you could use 1.8.0 if you wanted to, but I believe it won't work on the 004 hardware phones with the 0040000 size erase block.
Ok cool.
Thanks again
And yes i remember the simple way, things are supposed to get easier as time goes on, not more complicated, haha!

Excited as all outdoors because it was already rooted. Got home, sat down and went to put in my information, hmmmmmm, I got it from a black guy but there's a asian gmail account. :sirens: Maybe he purchased it from the guy just as I've done. I enter my account info and try to remove his, the apps need his so I cant delete him. Nothing a wipe won't fix right? Wrong. So after reading here a very small amount I realize I may need the original owner's B&N account info to resolve this.
Anyone care to chime in on this before I bother this guy for my money back?
Try to do a full wipe and return to original firmware. Then register an account for BN. Flash to cm7 afterwards. Hopefully it will work.

If you use another rom like cm7 you won't have to worry about it. They don't register anything with Barnes and noble.

If you are already at CM7 on the NC, then you will have to delete the old gmail and youtube accounts and sign-in to your own gmail and youtube accounts.
I just did a complete wipe of everything (SD card included) and his information disappeared. Thanks for the replies! Now to really dig into this.

Try to do the 8 failed boots and you shouldn't have to worry about it...
8 failed = system recovery (will take it back to stock)
update to 1.2 if necessary
register with B&N if not going to CM7 (I do it anyway even using CM7)
Root or CM7
Now its how YOU want it... not some asian girl/guy/whatever.

If you are using CM7, the "CyanogenMod 7" logo appears when booted. There is no registration of the NC with CM7. CM7 is not rooting. It is firmware that replaces the B&N firmware.
A rooted NC will initially splash the "Read Forever tm" logo when booted. The older B&N firmware splashed "Touch the Future of Reading" logo, if I remember correctly. A rooted NC is the stock B&N firmware that has been altered to allow (root) access to the Android Market apps and still retain all the original B&N functions/features. A rooted NC does require registering the NC.
If the rooted NC is not registered to your B&N account, then:
1. Touch the "U" with the up-arrow icon, select Settings.
2. In Settings, select Device Info.
3. In Device Info, select Erase & Deregister Device.
4. Touch the Erase & Deregister Device button to start the process.
5. Follow any other instructions to complete the erase and deregister the NC process which may follow.
6. Reboot NC, it should return to stock setup, as when it was new.
7. Follow the instructions and register the device using your own B&N account.
8. Update NC to 1.2.
9. Root NC using ManualNooter 4.6.16. Instructions are here.
10. Enjoy!
I hope this helps.
Thanks for the info Bluepen.....I now have a new issue. Somehow, someway I've managed to be in a boot loop, the funny part is it's flashing between the CM7 splash and ClockworkMod Recovery. I've been searching since last evening to no avail, not one single instance matches this one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've tried the 8x boot thing, I can't tell if it's even shutting down. Also tried the three finger deal, may need to do more research on that one. I've also formatted my sdcard so basically I'm in route to stock which I don't mind if I can just get there.
Slowly but surely this thing will run like my Shift...!!!!! I got it, basically I'm registered with B&N and on the stock ROM, WHEWWWW!
I went to nookdevs.com ( http://mrm3.net/nook-color-recover-any-bricked-device/ ) along with the help perusing around here I was able to fix.

It is good that your NC is back running CM7!
Are you dual booting from/on emmc or booting from the micro sdHC memory card or have you applied CM7 to emmc overwriting theB&N firmware?

Yes, but if your n key is not working, I'm not sure this will work. Just hold power and n at the same time while booting. It should go directly to recovery.
You should also be able to boot to recovery from inside CM10 or PA by using the power off menu. After you select reboot, a second menu comes up to ask if normal reboot or reboot to recovery.

n key works in rom itself, so I assume it should work when nook starts. When nook starts and push n key, nook displays "loading menu" and that is it.

Be very careful about wiping /boot. If you do, be sure to flash a new ROM before you reboot. You can mess yourself up good if you don't. Another thing to try is my partition repairs in my partition thread linked in my signature. But if you do that you lose you media files, so back them up. That will fix boot. Do the 145678 zip.

I stuck the bootable SD in and it would not boot, I thought maybe this might be a problem with the sdcard well 5 sdcards later it still wont boot, this problem did not start until i flashed firmware 2.1.1 rooted on there. Is there anyways to get clockworkmod back on this device? If so is there a link anywhere to a flashable image and the name of the partition I would flash it to. I still see cyanaboot when i boot up but holding the N key to access the menu does nothing either. Thanks in advance

There is no menu in the cyanoboot screen. To reset your device do the 8 failed boot procedure. Just interrupt the boot 8 times in a row by holding the power button until it turns off. On the 9th boot let it complete and it will reset itself to pure stock. Then you can start over.

Lets say i boot into cwm/twrp using SD or emmc i cant do a creen install (u know formatting data, cache, ect) and then did its time to install the rom, it installs like normal, no problem whatsoever, then installing g apps, same as before not a single problem or error message, then i reboot, see the cyanboot then its says "loading Emmc" or something close to that then the screen goes black, and stays black. weather 5,10,30 mins, an hour goes by nothing else will show on the screen. i though maybe i didn't format my cache (sometimes that's the problem on other devices in the past from booting) so i boot back into cmw/twrp and format it again, reboot, then after the cyanboot screen complete black screen, but i can run roms off SD fine but i dont like too

Hi leapinlar,
Sorry to hijack the thread, but I just dusted off my Nook Colour and want to take it back to stock. I followed your tips and used CWM-6.0.1.2-bootable_SD to restore back to nookcolor_1_4_3_signed.
I followed another threads instructions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720) where it told me to first format data and format system. I then chose the nookcolor_1_4_3_signed to install and rebooted.
I've rebooted a couple of times now and it is stuck on the screen with the n and "Contains reader mobile tech by adobe.."
I then went back into CWM and chose the restore function but i'm getting the same result.
