Not trying to flame the ipad 2, but how can our xooms be called buggy and incomplete, when the ipad 2 seems just as rushed?

That goes without say, but look at all the "tech gurus" and their "my opinion is fact tech articles" on their blogs and websites that claim the xoom is nowhere near the ipad 2 and it is such a solid device and had almost no issues. I think a lot of the overly biased reviews aren't helping the xooms sell. Many users on here write less biased more intuitive reviews over the tech sites online do.

Yes sir, your opinion is right. I made this point because every major tech company bashes to xooms and neglects the obvious problems with the ipad 2. I also know all of the problems with the xoom, I own one and have for just over a month. Please tell me how I'm flaming here? I will openly admit many aspects of the xoom are beta and to me it should have been just like the chrome netbooks, given to people to test and enjoy not sold, but I am an early adopter as I have owned a G1, Nexus one, Nexus S, and my xoom, so I will gladly purchase what helps push the products forward as long as I see its value as a product and where I will actually need it in life.
I still however love my xoom, and all of its faults, and also believe the ipad and ipad 2 have their own market as well and by no means think either need to go away. You sir have no logical reason to call me a flamer I did not call it a flaming pile of ****, but a rushed device in many ways just like to xoom was.
Besides if I hated apple, I never would have bought my girlfriend her the 13" MacBook, the 24" iMac, or the 32gb wifi ipad she has but you sir can continue to assume you know all about people when I own far more apple products then the average person.
XOOM failures so as to appease you:
-Lag when moving anything when device is upside down.
-even when set to automatically update no market apps update.
-browser can crash quite about with the gesture lab.
-the power connector feels like its going to break when inserting the charge cable
-YouTube widget gets hung refreshing for me a lot causing desktop lag and has to be removed to stop it.
-though it doesn't bother me the video encoding is a big let down to many.
-the price tag is a bit daunting to many would are in the middle of.the road, I feel for its price the standard dock and a gel skin should come with it.
-I think the widget grid should be expanded to the edges
The list goes on and many have other problems I do not, and vice versa. To me when Andy Rubin says people cut to many corners on Honeycomb, being the largest reason the source code has not been released and Larry Page is assigning more people to the Android development team to fix things that maybe it wasn't by any means ready to be outside of beta. Just like gingerbread and the reason it took so long to make it to the Nexus One.

The problems with the Xoom a guaranteed. No SD card works, no one has LTE, no one has a wide variety of apps, everyone has laggy this or broken that.
Big deal if an iPad 2 or two have some random problem.
I love Android as much as the next guy. To say that Apple is not miles ahead in the tablet war is foolish and fanboyish. I know its difficult for some people to give credit where credit is due.

Did I state they were not miles ahead? Calling a wifi issue which stems from the last generation ipad not a major issue is something foolish. It was brushed off as a software related issue that was never fixed as has carried over into the second generation iPad. Next everyone tears the Nexus s for not reconnecting to 3g without a reboot and everyone is screaming bloody murder in the Nexus s forums and it gets flammed everywhere for it, but you call it not a major issue on an ipad 2?
Obviously you missed my early response that I have in fact purchased an iPad along with several other Apple products ovet the past 6 years (and in fact to add to that we both had 80gb ipod videos), for my girlfriend and in turn I would say is better quality build than an iPad 2. If i didnt feel credit was due to Apple they wouldn't have recieved about $4000 over the past years in product purchases. I feel the ipad 2 is a rushed device, I am most calling it garbage by any means, but in all honesty I think the only problem with the first gen is that it lacked sufficient ram when the OS updated and it recieved faux multi-tasking. Other than that it feels like a rushed device, to maintain momentum they a ready had. Please tell me how anything I am saying is fanboyish?
If I even thought the ipad was not a quality device my girlfriend could use for daily tasks and presenting her portfolio as a Graphic Designer with then, I would have not made the purchase and would have tried to sway her interest in waiting for android tablets. I said there is and will be a market the ipad fills that android tablets will never fill, ease of use no matter age or tech background, anyone can pick it up and love it where as watching people with android tablets, like my xoom people get confused.
What is happening with all of these issues is no different then how the xooms list of need to fix asap is piling up, they are both rushed devices, I feel neither one was ready for the market quite yet, and yet both wanted to be out either first or close enough to disrupt the others launch. That said the woes of the xoom are heavier in some areas, but to see people treating issues like the ipad 2 as nothing but a minor problem and the xoom as a not worthwhile purchase is where this thread is intended in meaning.
If I had not started with a G1 and stuck with google experience devices all the way through now I'd probably be a livid user and would have returned my xoom by now. I think that being a linux user for over 7+ years has also attributed to my patience with software issues can always be fixed, especially when there is a strong community backing it.
Say what you want, call me a fan boy, ill recommend a first Gen ipad any day to an average consumer with little understanding of electronics over an ipad 2 any day. I recommnd the Xoom to people with above average knowledge(or the want to learn), patience, and appreciation for the finished product when it comes.

Not to metion that apple has shipped 2.4 million ipad2s already compared to maybe 100k Xooms for motorola. So any little bug is going to have a much bigger effect. Say both the xoom and the ipad2 have the exact same wifi bug stemming from a certain type of router. The ipad2 is gonna have 24 people affected for every one person for the xoom. So problems will be much more pronounced when you ship the volume apple does.

After reading and panicking about the possibility of losing key features on my phone I seem to have come across a common consensus, the case will be appealed and most likely patents probably nullified. Now this is all speculation of course and take it with a grain of salt, but this seems to be the only documented effect from this case (read below article)

Hi,
I'm a big Samsung fan, i've had the S1, S2 and currently own the S3..at the moment i'm running cyanogenmod 10.1 and after a few initial misgivings about it's lack of features compared to a sammy touchwiz rom ... i'm really starting to like the aosp feel and look..
Now after a year of owning the S3 i'm getting a bit restless and feel like a change.. the nexus 4 is the phone that's intriguing me most. So I have a really simple question, is it a sensible move to the 4 from the S3.
Carl.
Yes only if non removable battery or SD card is not a problem which I personally don't mind and the camera won't to better but around the same and no lte then I'd say go for it , it does give you a bang for your buck especially with development I use P.A which is awesome

The main pros of the Nexus 4 that I keep listing anytime I tell people about it are the following:
1. Price. $350 is pretty much half the price of any other competitor to the Nexus 4
2. Pure Android, updated directly from Google. As soon as a new version of Android is released, it's on the Nexus. Google develops Android FOR this device.
3. Design. Glass front and back, it's a solid phone. Looks sleek.
Now, newly-released phones do have slightly better hardware. But we're getting to the point of diminishing returns. We're packing so much hardware into these devices, you'll hard-pressed to find software that actually makes use of it. I think the only debate you should be having is buy the Nexus 4 now, or wait until the next Nexus comes out, possible during the holidays. That isn't to say this phone won't still be a solid phone then, but I can understand if some people wait to buy updated versions.
To answer your question: yes. It is definitely worth it. At $350, it's fiscally irresponsible NOT to buy a Nexus 4. Right now I'm paying $30/mo for a tablet plan on AT&T with 3gb of data. Having weird and crazy options like that don't seem to happen with other phones. I feel like the Nexus 4 is YOUR phone, not 80% your phone, 20% the manufacturer's.
Spoiler alert: I might be a little biased, but c'mon. It's a sweet phone.
No, don't buy a N4. You obviously can't be bothered to research and figure out if this phone is worth it or not. You definitely aren't going to do any other research when you attempt to Root, Rom, and Mod......Buy a different phone and clutter their forums.:silly:

Before I read everyone else's post I want to say I came from the gs3 had gs2. I would do it again in a heart beat. However it's not a super huge upgrade like it was from gs1 to gs2 or even gs2 to gs3. The software is where I enjoyed the phone the most.
I loved my screen on my gs2 and gs3 on this I wasn't impressed until I got used to it. Now I feel samsung screens have to much pop in the colors
Hope this made sense

Not in love with the Nexus 4. Have had it since January when it replaced my SGS2 (T989). I really appreciated not having to search for the least buggy ROM, as the stock was nice but at this point I'm dissatisfied with the Camera, which seems to produce mostly mediocre pictures (sadly, and since my other devices and cameras produce better ones, I'm afraid it's not (usually) operator error); the screen, whose color palate I don't love and whose auto-brightness is chronically dim (which can of course be mostly remedied by not using auto-brightness, though wish I could), and lastly the touch sensitivity, which I may try to adress now—I understand there are fixes. Nevertheless, I'm gonna see what T-Mobile will sell me a SGS4 for...

Nexus 7 2013 has been out for almost a month and we keep seeing more hardware and software issues appearing. Is Google letting us down or Asus mass production issue? Your thought?

This device rocks, software is not an issue if you're patient. Hardware seems like luck of the draw, with most being lucky. I think all the "issues" people are having shout the loudest 'cause people in general only want to hear the bad news.
I rooted my device in Linux with no issues, have changed roms multiple times and settled on PA, faux123's ES003 and love it. Great battery life, great speed, great sound, great screen, zero issues with multi-touch, no creaking or rattling (I refuse to shake or thump or twist my device), and I can get a GPS fix in my basement. Oh, and Bluetooth works, haven' t seen any light bleed, my charger doesn't hum or buzz, and the back is free of the blighted "oil slick". I am aware of all these issues because they are at the forefront of the forums continually, but I have yet to observe any of them first hand.
So, to get back to the OP's question: I think Google and Asus have both done well to create the best device I've ever owned. I blame both of them for building an inexpensive and powerful tablet.

I don't know of many hardware issues. I think most were to blame on a faulty patch that Google pulled and replaced.
Most people replaced swapped out their tablets because of these but overall I think it was a successful launch. Not many hardware problems at all. Of course you'll get a few duds from every batch. Nothing alarming though.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Nexus devices have always been "Dev" devices so the occasional hiccup is expected. Google, nor Asus is at fault. The important thing is that known issues have already been rectified. Nexus devices have always been Dev devices in the past. I think people are only posting bad news. I've had 2 new nexus 7s (exchanged 16gb for 32gb) and 0 Build quality issues.
Dude you're getting a $240 device with huge specs and you're complaining
Yes this device is awesome
Sent from my Nexus 7 (2013)
I think a lot of the complaining is coming from people just looking for problems. Its no surprise that if they are looking for them that they find something to complain about. Many of the "issues" I have seen discussed on here are either complete user error or someone being ridiculously anal. Seriously anyone returning a Nexus 7 because it makes a alight noise if you tap it near the camera, or you can hear the speakers buzz when you hold it within a mm of your ear, or because if you press down hard on the case near the Asus logo it creaks, should be banned from buying retail electronics. These kinds of people just drive costs up for the rest of us.

I guess you have to put this into relation to total sales and if you look at the percentage that will come up, I guess every manufacturer will have a similar one. 100 sounds alot but in relation to (just as example) 100.000 sold devices it is just 0.1%...sure you can always find something wrong with anything . I am very happy with my Nexus 7
Not when you note that a number of them have returned 2 or more units.
Also, it's not like they're being 'picky' about it. Random reboots, dead areas of the screen, non-working GPS are hardly minor issues that are easily overlooked.
Add to that the number of people who might have just returned the device, bought a different brand (or nothing) and didn't bother to search out or post to that site about the experience.
I bought a16gb nexus when they first came out. A year later I bought a 32gb one for my wife. When the nexus (2013) came out, I replaced mine with a new 32gb one. I passed my original down to my son. All perfect, and a delight to use. Hooked on qi charging with the new one.

I am sewing lots of people panicking because of some issues with some devices received.
I see this with nearly every handset I have owned, especially at the beginning.
It's as though a chain reaction starts when someone has a fault, others then look for the same fault, over analyse the phone and almost will themselves in to believing a small scratch or blemish is the same thing as the original complainant.
Out of all those who had "faulty" devices, how many do you think got perfectly working devices?
Don't have a knee jerk reaction and jump ship until you actually have a major problem with your own device. Give the manufacturer a chance first.

"Give the manufacture a chance" is easy to say if you live somewhere where these phones have reasonable price or return window or good warranty...
Here where I live it's not like that, I have to pay more than a month's income for a flagship, sometimes a 24h return window if the device has a real issue sometimes not even that, also no proper warranty for Sony devices here, So I consider myself all the right to nitpick & panic
Cheers

Well if you have to pay over a months income to get a flagship, why are you getting one in the first place? As with everything else in life, everything just goes the way it goes. You won't get a faulty phone, and if you do, then its meant like that and you can learn from it. Just turn everything into positives.

I have been badly burned by multiple devices in the past.
1. Sony K810i (7 years back) - found out speaker was damaged 5 days after purchase. As @riginal pointed out, I was at a place where I cannot return the device the moment I walk out of the shop. By the end of one year, everything except battery in that phone was replaced. I had bought that model several months after it was released.
2. HP DV5 1015TX Laptop (6 years ago) - replaced display 3 times over a 1.5 year period because of the same issue. Lucky that I had warranty extension.
3. Asus TF700T - If I see the guy who tested it, I will hit him with the tablet until it breaks. I am not joking.
4. Nexus 7 2013 - replaced speaker 2 months after purchase.
5. Dell XPS 9530 Laptop - paid $2000 and got a machine that makes whining sound, throttles games to unplayable FPS.
After these kind of experiences, when I got my Nexus 5, I returned it without zero hesitation twice - first because of the yellow tint and second time because of the dead pixel. There should be zero tolerance when it comes to devices. I pay expecting a fully functional product. I am not paying to be their tester. Its high time companies are penalized for releasing defective units. If they can't ensure consistent quality, at least I should get a full refund even if it is after 1 year.
If the companies cannot guarantee that there would be defects during the initial launch period, either they should offer extended warranty with the guarantee that if its a factory defect, we will get a new phone no matter when it was reported.
Edit: Added item 2.

But all that doesn't mean it's going to happen to you with this device. Plus you could argue that you should learn from experience and wait for the device to mature before you leap in to a purchase of a newly released flagship device.
All this strikes me as nothing more than mass hysteria still. You can't judge a device and declare it as faulty before you have it in your hand.

Well if you have to pay over a months income to get a flagship, why are you getting one in the first place? As with everything else in life, everything just goes the way it goes. You won't get a faulty phone, and if you do, then its meant like that and you can learn from it. Just turn everything into positives.

If you really want the answer for your first question I'll manage, I usually keep whatever cellphone I buy for 2-3 years and right now I have Xperia X10 & wasn't gonna upgrade but my beloved X10 finally died on me & if I buy something I want to buy the latest & the greatest so yeah I manage but that doesn't mean I can afford to buy a premium device with premium price just to see it die a week later & toss it way only because there was a gap in the device & it wasn't waterproof as advertised, So I really appreciate people here nitpicking, It helps me make my decision between this, Note 3 & M8
and what to you mean it's meant like that? turn everything into positives? do we really need to get philosophical on this? I mean seriously is it asking too much to get a solid device as advertised for the price I pay?
Anyways don't really understand the purpose of this thread, Everyone here are just stating facts & sharing their experience with the device which unfortunately happens to involve high temperature, build quality issues, low ringtone...I don't really complain or nag, actually no one does except for the op of this thread
