[Q] Google+ Auto Backup not uploading all photos - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Google+'s Auto Backup feature isn't uploading all of the photos I'm taking on my Android. Everything is set right (to upload via Wi-Fi or mobile data connection and whether or not charging), but I took 7 pictures today, and only 2 have been "Auto Backed up." The phone's been on a great data connection for hours since those photos were taken, but they're still not backing up. Even worse, when I've selected "Back up all" from the Google+ app, it immediately tells me "upload complete," so it seems that the app _think_ it's uploaded all the photos even thought it hasn't.
Is anyone else seeing this? I'm running a Google Play Edition Galaxy S4. And the issue has persisted even after a hard reset. I'm not sure if this is an(other) issue specific to the Google Play Edition S4 or not.

me too
I've been having this issue for months too. My phone: the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE (Verizon), also known as the Thunderbolt II (it's original name before sales). Android 4.0.4.
No other replies? I suspect the problem is widespread but people don't yet know it...

Same here, since last week autobackup is not uploading any picture.
On the other hand. Dropbox camera upload its working just fine.
So i can say is not an network issue.

I've been having this same issue on my DROID4 since early November. It had worked seamlessly before that. I've tried everything, including clearing cache, clearing data, uninstalling all G+ updates (various combos of these three with reboots) selecting and de-selecting every option under the sun. I'm just done. If anyone can figure out a fix, I'm be eternally grateful!

I am having the same issue on my Galaxy Nexus. New pictures are uploading but pictures from past year are not. If I tap "Back up all" it immediately says: "Upload complete". I tried to clearing g+ data, cache, re-install. Still having this issue. Did anyone managed to fix this problem?
I have CM 11 M8 (Android 4.4.4)

[Q] Can't do video calls on Hangouts

I was just curious if anyone else was experiencing this problem. I've had it since Hangouts was released. I've already contacted Google which just resulted in them ignoring me
Every time I start up a video call in Hangouts I get the annoying - "Unfortunately, Hangouts has stopped." It doesn't give me the 'Wait' option either. It's either 'Report' or 'Cancel.' Strangely, I can get it to do ONE video call after I clear data/cache and FC the Play Services app...which is strange to me. I have the latest firmware and I'm NOT rooted. Also, I just got the new Hangouts update (1.0.2) and the problem still persists.
Things I've Tried
Clearing Data/Cache of Hangouts AND Play Services. Restarting and without.
Factory Data Reset
Uninstalled possible conflicting software: Voice, GrooveIP
Any insight or if you might have a fix would be much appreciated.
Awww...no insight? Is it a lost cause?
Nothing other than to tell you it is working fine on mine (with no conflicts from Voice or GrooveIP). I occasionally get dropped connections when chatting with my brother in So Cal, but he's on DSL so it doesn't really surprise me.
Well hangouts it's working like it was an alpha release. I added some of my family members to g+ and then to Hangouts so we could videochat in group and share things, etc.
The first time i sent a message it didn't show up to any of the new users. I tried videocalling and from my side it was ringing, but in the other end nothing happened.
I went to settings and signed out in all of the hangouts and then it started working.
But with every new user it's the same if they weren't Talk users previously.

Same. Very annoying. If you clear the cache and dat you can do a video call, but only once before the error happens again.

Yeah I tried Signing Out/Signing In and it was still doing it. I also just tried deleting all my Hangouts and starting fresh then restarted my N7...still the same problem. I think I've tried every troubleshooting tip in the book and with absolutely no help from Google.
Hell I've gone through the entire root process to find a fix...nothing same damn error. How does this keep happening? It doesn't even make any sense.

I have different device (g2/slimrom 4.2.2), but I had same problem. My solution was to push libvideochat_jni.so to /system/lib (it was missing, but I got it from rom provider packages).

Found the files and pushed them cleared the app's data and cache, restarted the device and no video chat. I'm running a Fix Permissions now since I read somewhere that when you push the files the permissions don't match the rest of the folder, so I'm waiting for this to be done and see if it works after that.
EDIT: Nope...still the same.
EDIT2: Ok...here's what is really strange. The file you mentioned isn't included with the latest version of gapps (03/01/2013). The libs included were 'renamed' to libgtalk_stabalize.so and libgtalk_jni.so. I need to know if anyone who actually has this working has these same files in system/lib folder.
EDIT3: Nope, just realized it wasn't any of that either. it has something to do with the Google Play Services app. I clear data and FC that and I can do 1 video call after that it still the same symptoms. Google says they are working on it so I guess the best I can do is wait.
This is happening for me on my galaxy nexus (stock 4.3 not rooted). I only just wiped the thing clean about a week ago from the factory image.
In my troubleshoot testing at home, I've discovered that my girlfriends nexus 7, and her sgs2 (with CM10.1) both force with the same behaviour. hangouts works fine until trying to make/receive a video call.
The ONLY android device I can get it to work properly on is my HP touchpad - the bloody thing is the only one that wasn't meant to run android in the first place!
I'm not sure how people have got it to work for just one call, I've tried wiping play services, but it doesn't seem to help.
I have same problem with galaxy nexus. One simple question, have you ever change your kernel or ROM?
Yes, but I've been running stock for quite some time now. Without issues.

same problem with s3 verizon
i have a galaxy s3 verizon one..evn i have the same problem with my s3..when i tr to video call someone..it says unfortunately hangouts has stopped..nd viber also doesn even open..any solution will be appreciated!
same problem
I am having the same problem with my Verizon droid RAZR mass and my galaxy note 10.1 gtn8013. When I use my laptop to video chat everything works great, it just when I use my mobile devices. I've used my sons nexus 7 with my account and it still has the same problem.
I installed SuperJELLY on my Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE, upgraded from Talk to Hangouts, and get similar results. I can open the app once and am able to IM okay, but after a reboot, I get, "Hangouts has stopped." I tried rebooting into recovery and fixing permissions, but that didn't fix the problem.
UPDATE:
I'm unsure which of these steps worked, exactly, but I:
Used Titanium Backup to make Hangouts a user app
Applied the Hangouts update from around 2013-11-16
Made Hangouts a system app
Now she appears to work just fine, Captain!
How do you use TB to change Hangouts to a user app?
I have exactly same problem now. Just can't make any video call, it worked fine before and I just found the problem today. I've tried all suggestions and methods above but still not working. I didn't change anything in my phone recently.

Nexus 4 - You don't have any devices - Google Play website

Anyone help with this annoying problem I'm recently experiencing?
I've never had this problem before, but for no reason (i've not installed any apps recently or changed ROM) I am unable to install apps to my phone via my PC google play browser.
All I get is 'You don't have any devices' - and when I try install an app it says 'You haven't accessed the Google Play Store app (the white shopping bag icon) on your device with this email account.
Clearly I have because I just installed a free game from my phone and I can the see the game installed from the PC play store browser in my apps list.
I have tried forcing the Google Play app to stop and clearing data, logging out of my PC browser and trying again but no luck, I have reinstalled GAPPS and my ROM with a cache/davlic wipe but same results.
All I can think of is because my original email was c......... @googlemail.com and one day it asked me if I wanted c........ @gmail.com and to merge the two accounts together, which I clicked yes to. So when setting my phone up for the first time I use c........ @googlemail.com but then it shows up as c......... @gmail.com when I look at my account settings....
Really annoying problem!!
same issue with Galaxy Note II
No, it's not because of changing email addresses. It has to do with changing ROM.
I changed my ROM from samsung note II, to CM10, and this problem started occurring. I'm also thinking it has something to do with titanium backup breaking market links

I don't know if it's the ROM. I've tried many ROMs on my Nexus 7, Nexus 4, and Galaxy Ace, sometimes even switching everyday of the week and I've never one had this issue.
I'd talk to Google support if I were you. The only thing I have issues with is my device list. It shows two Nexus 7s because my first one died after 7 days and I had to exchange it for a new one, which also activated... and you can't remove devices from your account.
Titanium Backup "market doctor"
Could it be Titanium Backup's market doctor? Perhaps this problem started when I linked all system and user apps to the market.
It also shows a really old nexus 7 that I've sold long ago. Notwithstanding, I can still use Google play on my device without any issue.

I've never used TB market doctor because all of my backups linked properly to the market when I restored them. I would guess that isn't the issue though, because all it does is repair link to the market so apps show up as downloaded and can be updated.
It sounds like it could be an account issue with the email/merging thing you did.
spoke to google
I spoke to google for a long while: while I was not able to to see my phone listed under "my devices" they were able to see it on their end. All I could see was 4 devices that I have long ago stopped using.
They speculate that it could be an error with a recent update to the Play.google.com site....
here is what they recommend:
Uninstall updates to
GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES
GOOGLE SERVICES FRAMEWORK
GOOGLE PLAY STORE
They also asked me to wipe data.
They asked me to reboot - and - now I'm still waiting for the auto play-store update. Currently does not seem to have solved the problem.
Anyone else having these issues?
<<hangouts will require the updated play-store in order to work>>

"Google Services" High Data Usage

I'm very confused with my wife's N4. "Google Services" has used ~1.5GB of data in the last 3 days. My wife uses her phone for facebook and texting. She doesn't have any data heavy apps. Any ideas on what do to stop this from continuing?
Maybe try turning off location services or maybe try backing up everything and do a factory reset?

I tried doing that, and disabiling background data for it through battery manager, but that eliminates all google sync. I eventually just backed things up and moved on to a newer rom. Like I said, it is my wife's phone and didn't feel like trying to figure out the root cause. If it were my phone, I'd be more patient. Hopefully you can find an answer. 500MB a day is nuts. Glad we're on "unlimited" with StraightTalk.
My brother and I just got the same problem as well. He has been on Paranoid for over 3 months and just yesterday Google Services used up 1.5gb out of no where (in a few hours). Just today, im on Carbon, my Google Services used up 500mb (in a few hours). Thankfully, I noticed that my battery was going too fast so I went in and turnd off background data for Google Services.
Any one have an idea of what is going on?
I noticed this problem on my phone a couple of weeks ago and asked about it here. Unfortunately no one knows what's really going on.

System Update Issue
I've noticed this same issue since i updated all my Google Play applications last 07/30. Before the update, I did not have this high bandwidth consumption.
Anyways, i've been researching in my phone and tried the following solutions:
First, I restricted Google Services background data, this did not work, it was still consuming my data. So I kept researching and found something interesting, i went to About Phone - System Update, and noticed my phone was consistently trying to update to 4.3 JB (which is 183 MB), and after the download was complete, then a "verification failed" error message was displayed.
At this point, i thought, This is probably the cause i've been losing all of my data. I am running ParanAndroid along with franco kernel for some time, maybe this is the reason the update is failing.
So, a rough solution i did to this meanwhile: Go to Settings -> Apps -> All and disable Google Services Framework, this will ensure that the update is not constantly being downloaded, however, many Google applications will have issues.
Guys I am facing such extremely annoying Google Services (DownloadManager in BBS) battery drain + mobile/wifi data usage issue and I have been searching for some hours.
First of all I have tried the most answered solution - clearing the data of all those stuffs related to Google Services - well it did not work so well.
Then I don't think freezing download manager / factory reset / restrict background data / disabling google services framework are good solutions as I myself did not make changes related to this recently so a factory reset should not be needed, plus the other mentioned solutions would cause syncing issues with Google and this doesn't suit my lifestyle of heavily depending on various google services.
Many of you have proposed that the massive download / repeated downloads are related to downloading the 4.3 OTA and that might be possible according to the similar file sizes as well as logcats you have found. But on the other hand one of the solution - disabling Network Locations settings has also stopped the "download" triangle from constantly staying there when my wifi is on. Therefore we can conclude that it is partially related to the 4.3 OTA download which cannot be disabled on our custom ROMs, as well as partially about the stock Network Location settings.
Fortunately after many posts that do not provide a feasible answer I have found this xda post which addresses the issue related to the Google Play Store 4.1.6. Some of the users have reported that 4.1.10 has fixed the issue and some even said the newest version 4.2.9 is over the internet since 25/7 together with 4.3 update.
Not sure why such critical update did not roll out to the unluckily bunch of us from Google, but I have found the Android Police source about 4.1.10 fixing the "Network Location bug which hogs the battery" and hopefully this will stop the DownloadManager wakelock as well as the crazy battery drain + data drain by Google Services.
I haven't tested this thoroughly because I will probably need a day to check out whether it stops the crazy behaviour but I would just like to share with you guys my founding as soon as possible so you guys can try it out together with me. The latest Google Play Store 4.2.9 apk can be downloaded from Android Police here.
Hope I have helped! Good luck to you and me!

Hi and thanks for sharing your investigation and findings so far. I looked at my Nexus 4 tonight and saw that it had downloaded 500mb over 3G so I disabled it and started searching for an answer. Definitely looks to be the OTA 4.3 issue, but installing Play Store 4.2.9 has done nothing for me. My phone has just sucked down another 500mb over WiFi under the "Google Play Services" heading and shows no signs of stopping.
I'm running CM 10.1 stable - really need a fix for this because otherwise I can't enable 3G without burning my whole quota in short order.
Darn, had this same problem, in one day 500mb over 3G.... Thats not cool.
Recently installed a new ROM, Cyanogenmod 10.1, and I think I found the problem. The gallery app was synching all photo's on my G+ account it seems.
Hope I nailed it, because we just went on holiday today and I need my data for finding information etcetrea. But I think this is it, as I can view photo's from vacations made decades ago whoile phone is in airplanemode...
Hope this helps others with this problem...
This is exactly the root cause. I've just lost a gig on 3G today. I'm on wifi now and update just keeping download & verification fail loop. I'm on PA Rom.

Here's how to disable the OTA download on any ROM
Install Autorun Manager from the Play store.
Then enter its recommended advanced mode.
Go into the settings and enable the following : system entries and system app disable.
Disable com.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$Reciever under Google Service Framework
It would be great if the OP could be updated with this

You can try this
It is definitely something to do with the 4.3 update. I was on PA 3.6 (Android 4.2.2) and had this problem. After upgrading my phone to Android 4.3 on the latest PA, I no longer have this issue. I think it is a problem in the ROM where they tried to remove the OTA feature, but instead it still tries to download the ROM via 3G in the background. Don't quote me on the above, but that is the only thing that makes sense to me!
Since I've reached my limit for the month (and I'm not even half way through doh), I have had to disable Mobile Data otherwise I would have had a hefty bill come through!

[Q] How to fix Unfortunately, the process phone (or various other apps) has stopped

Guys, Ive seen the other posts, about this issue, and want to know a few things.
First off I am new here, and new to phone programming and general security issues on them as well. So if I jack this up, my bad.
I have a Galaxy Note 2 AT&T SGH-I317 stock (not rooted)
Its running
android 4.1.2 kernel vers 3.0.31
build JZO54K.I317UCAMC3
(before you start with check the other posts, I have tried the reset "power, home and volume button" and chose number 4 to clear all partition cache, also ran in safe mode to see if it was a downloaded app, still didn't work) I also want to know what is causing it, before I do the "applications manager reset all apps" Got a lot of custom settings and items blocked. Don't want to redo all of it.
So as of last night I was disabling some running process in the application manager. I did it by checking on them before. But, its not like I had the OFFICIAL Droid guide to disabling stuff on your Note2. That being said I take care to do it the best I can. Before I disabled each one, I cleared the cache of each one (if it was a option) and unchecked Show notifications. Force stopped them, and disabled each one.
Starting around 2pm CST the next day, my phone started to lock up, messenger will not work, phone app crashes after every call. But I was using it all morning on twitter, and instagram with no issues. And various other will not load etc. What could cause this? and is there a official list of applications for note2 with what they do and what they control.
Short list of disabled applications from last night are
Market Feedback Agent
LogsProvider
Google Play services, and Play store.
Google Partner Setup
DRM Protected Content Storage
DioDict3services (not sure about this one)
com.google.andriod.voicesearch
com.android.providers.partnerbookmarks
Search Applications Provider, (found on android.forms to be ok to disabled)
TopicWall
Thank y'all in advanced.

[Q] nexus 4 software update issue

Hi! My name is joseph.
I have a nexus 4 cell model. I updated my phone to android version 5.0 . after running smoothly for some time all default google apps are not working including gmail, dialler, etc.
Also even unlocking the screen has become an issue. I have already mailed to google but am not receiving a reply. If i gi ahead with factory data reset will it revert back to android 4.3.

No, factory data reset will not revert it to android 4.3 or any other previous version, it'll remain 5.0. All your user data such as pics, videos and music and app settings and customisations will be lost, so you'll have to set up your phone from scratch again.
Thanks. Is it possible to install kitkat 4.4 version.

Yes of course. Download the factory image of 4.4 and flash in bootloader but doing so will wipe your data not wiping data will be buggy. So backup your data first if you can. Heres guide on how to flash factory images.

You can also also try go through a toolkit

You have similar issues to me, got another thread running but no suggestions yet unfortunately;
Well my Nexus 4 has had Lollipop for 2.5 days now, its probably had 50 reboots, cleared the cache twice, uninstalled most of the apps and changed those drawing options.
In that time I've managed a couple of hours of Spotify, composed half a post on here in the browser before it froze, and although its freezing less often, I cannot seem to access my photos at all, Google Play, G Now, G +, the Youtube App, Gmail are all inaccessible. No successful calls or texts, and I can't even view my phone book for more than half a second before it shuts. Consistently struggles to get mobile reception and mobile data is even rarer.
I'm sure that on Kitkat I was given the option between two default launchers, and I changed it as one of the apps (I think it was misshaps which displays contact info after the lockscreen times out in case the phone is lost) didn't play nicely with one of them. But on Lollipop I can't see how to change it back, the Internet wants me to install a launcher thing from Google Play but I can't as Google Play won't open!
And the biggest problem? Although my laptop makes a sound when I plug my phone into it, and my phone knows it is connected as a media device, it won't show up on the computer so I can't back up my photos before doing a full reset. (I know I know, should have done it before but didn't think to do it!)
Any suggestions? I haven't checked to see how much is backed up to Google drive yet and currently the phone is frozen on its lock screen...
