Finished a training ride today...reached into my jersey pocket to call home andddd it slips and lands on the corner.
2 months old only. Damn. :/ Hurts my pocket for sure as I saved up and finally moved on from a GNexus 2 years later. (<--I'm a student)
Feast your eyes on broken glass (LCD still works but the digitizer which is bonded to the glass is broken). Sony quoted me 50% of the cost of the phone just to replace and repair it. That's not worth it IMHO. Sigh. Guess I'll just sell it for parts and go hunting for a 2nd hand phone......

Thats the lock screen (pin lock)
I could...but the cost isn't too far off from an official repair ($100US) but even if I fixed the screen I loose the water resistance because as you can see there's a chunk of the bottom left frame missing
Ouch! That took quite a hit what type of surface did you drop it on? Hope you find a solution soon.

Went straight corner down to concrete. There was a crunch *ouch :/
It looked ok though until I powered on the screen and it wouldn't respond.
It's actually easy to fix, check online for spare parts. They sell the body for 30 euro's and the screen varies

Indeed. I kept it naked because I had the charging dock and I didn't want to deal with taking the case on and off all the time. I should've gotten one. Phone landed corner first which is why the damage is like this. If it was flat on the back it might have taken it better

The digitiser of mine is broken and I didn't even drop it. It's because of the heat from CPU instead according to many shops that I went to.

KID's news-flash for you - heat always makes anything less durable. So no, don't leave your phone in the sun or don't try to power the processor above what was factory made.

So the phone worked fine, I brought it downstairs, start using the computer, check my phone and the screen is black with some lines, and what looks like a crack on the bottom near the buttons.
I called T-Mobile, who said it was a known issue, since corrected in newer shipments, that they usually replaced completely in-store, but there's no stores up here in Montreal. So then two reps both separately told me to call the factory/manufacturer HTC, who then told me that they don't cover screen problems, at all, ever. All they can do is initialize the normal off-warranty repair service for like 200$ and be phone-less for about a month.
I find this completely unacceptable and could use some help or HTC/TMO reps on the forums? This is my first phone and I'm not used to dealing with this...

my fiancee's G2 screen went out last night, it looked like it shattered from the inside because there was a 1 1/2 inch crack under the glass. she says it was working perfectly fine, put it in her purse and a few mins later it wouldnt turn on. she didnt drop it or hit it against anything so i have no idea what happened. exchanged it at radio shack today (only had it 10 days) and the guy said it had to have been from a heavy blow. now i know she is capable of abusing phones but i believe that she didnt this time.

i had the exact same thing happy to my phone last night. i have only had it a few days. this is not a good sign for the G2 phone. i barely used it; it was never dropped, etc. there appears to be some kind of crack under the screen near the home button on the phone (maybe from pushing that button?) and the screen is out. the phone is still functional and can get calls, etc, but i cannot see anything. i am going in today to get it replaced but this worries me a lot about owning this phone.

Still waiting on better camera but here's from my webcam. Turned on. You can kind of see a crack at the bottom. It looks different than before, when it was really obvious white lines, now it's darker but still changes depending on what the phone is supposed to be showing.

It looks pristine when the screen is off. I'm not knowledgeable about screens but it must be an inside layer, broken from a pressure or heat problem?

Pressure... unlikely. Heat and cold contributes a lot when it comes to glass. My old phone cracked when it was really cold back where I use to live.

Mine did that too. Called T-Mobile and they made me add the $6 monthly warranty and said i could remove it from the account after the swap
They made me reboot the phone and then check the moisture sticker thing under the battery. I just told them what the screen was doing and they replaced it. I had the insurance but I didn't have to use it for the warranty replacement.

Did yours have a little crack near the buttons, but not the actual glass?
I have the same EXACT issue in the same EXACT spot. Noticed it when i took my g2 out of my pocket. The glass has no cracks scratches or anything!!Called tmobile the next day...the guy told me to take it a store to determine whether its "cosmetic" damage or not. Went to the store and they said its physical damage and wouldnt be covered. Called customer service at the store and she explained to me that this was a known issue. She called it "lcd bursting". Ordered my phone right then and there. Once i get the phone she was i have to send in my old one so that they can determine whether its covered under the warranty or not. If not its $279. Have any of you guys gotten charged the $279 if you had the small crack by the home buttons??
I never had this issue before... I have a little mytouch bag for my g2 and never put in my pockets... had this phone for hell of a long time. Wish you don't got to pay dude and if they do make you pay start b***hing at them
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I sent it in and they want me to pay 190$. And they didn't even know about ANY known issues. I told them to have their "technicians" recheck it with specific instructions.
my screen arrived today, and its all fixed. If worst comes to worst you can buy a new screen and do it yourself for so much cheaper than that.
While at King's Dominion earlier this week, I noticed the "DEL" part of the logo on the battery cover fell off (probably 1-too many roller coaster rides). The last "L" stayed on. Fortunately, I had the original clear silicone case on it, and the "DEL" got caught up top / side between the phone & the case.... When I got home, I cleaned the logo area with alcohol and a Q-Tip and used a tooth pick to put little dabs of Super Glue (the gel type glue), in the recesses where the logo is at the middle-most part. I think I got good adhesion.... seems secure now, but I'm wondering if I should pry off the last "L" and the circular parts and glue them as well?
I picked up an original Dell dock earlier this week and cannot use the dock and any case simultaneously... and I'm also liking the way my nude Streak feels, but I'm afraid if the rest of the logo tries to escape, I may not have the case on and consequently loose the parts..... Any thoughts?
Thanks all!

Hahahaha... I lost the logo also when i try to use the silicone case. It just went sticky with the case i guess, so with some insert-deinsert cycle it went loose. I did purchase the replacement cover though ($40 - goddamnit), but daily I keep the old cover because I like it that way (matte with embossed effect-LoL).
So sorry i have to part with my streak. Last month i almost lose this phone, actually I did but then someone find it and return it to me. In reflection i decided to sell, because it's some kind of bad mojo for me. Still i missed my streak though...

Too true..... There's NOTHING out there that's even in the same category.... Unless something bad happens to mine, I don't EVER plan on getting rid of it..... Hell, even if/when aTnT takes over my beloved T-Mobile, I'll be all set for their, um, "3G" bands (although T-Mobile's 2G is usually FASTER than the DeathStar's "3G").....

Hello guys .
I had my htc one for 3 months now , and today i dropped it having a dent on the edge which prevented me from using the volume buttons ; So i finally i made my mind to tear it apart . Took me several hours (have an exam on monday so was not giving full attention on the phone)
It was easy to take apart .
used a hair dryer to heat up the phone and removed the bottom speaker cover and it was pretty easy and using a blade moved up on both sides for several times , but nothing was separating , so i did the same thing on the top and using a guitar pick inserting the guitar pic on the top pushed back the white poly-carbonate and then after some efforts the back housing finally separated . Everything is working i did damage the poly-carbonate. But i did not have a new housing to change with , will post a video and pics once i have it . I dont have the money to buy one today . Will borrow from parents and order one on monday

Taking it apart was never the problem, the problem was taking it apart without damaging the phone, mostly by prying it open and damaging the finish.
John.
Try putting it back together now.
Disassembling stuff is mostly straightforward, however assembling it back can be a PITA..
If you are able to take apart the phone without damaging anything except for the back, then you are absolutely awesome.
That's all we need to be able to do. The replacement back is only 25 dollars. If it is easy to remove the back and put on a new one, then this will come in handy for people who scratched or dented their backs or cracked their camera lenses. Also, once OEM parts for the red and blue are available, we'll be able to change the colors of our phones to our liking.
Again, awesome.
If you look at the op`s photo in post 2, the right hand side of the back case looks like something has been chewing at it.

HTC One Repairability Score: One out of 10 (10 is easiest to repair)
Very, very difficult (possibly impossible?) to open the device without damaging the rear case. This makes every component extremely difficult to replace.
The battery is buried beneath the motherboard and adhered to the midframe, hindering its replacement.
The display assembly cannot be replaced without removing the rear case—this will make the most common repair, a damaged screen, nearly impossible.
Copper shielding on many components is difficult to remove and replace.
Solid external construction improves durability....
See for them it's difficult -.- . Just wanted to say it's not

Just to let you know this isn't costing him a thing and if you dont have parents to buy you new toys you probably shouldn't try this.

Its information for which some people may find useful............so why is it useless?
You may also wish trying to learn how to spell as well. At least the 16 year old OP gets that correct.
Well, hi there, nice people of the XDA forums,
I have been using my shiny new Z1 for a month now and here's my opinion on it. It is awesome. Good battery life, beautiful screen and build coming from a Xperia V user.
I've loved every second of using it after i got used to its large form.
Sadly, my Z1 has now been returned to the service centre since I bent it. I got to admit, when I first saw people posting images of their bent Z1s and saying that no external forces were imposed on the device, I was like "which dumb guy will believe that a phone made of aluminium would magically bend itself?", but after 1 month, unfortunately, I realised my Z1 was bent horizontally above the power button. It was hard to notice at first as I had it in a roxfit gel shell, I think that's what it is called, but when I removed the case, I had a huge shock.
Later that day, I sent my Z1 to my local Sony centre, I live in Singapore, and apparently, there have been many cases of this happening here but the lady was reluctant to tell me if the damages could be covered warranty.
So, here I am, writing this post to remind my fellow Z1 lovers to never ever ever put you phone in a region that is really tight and moves a lot, for example the pockets on your jeans, as you may come to regret it.
P.S. I'm just posting my experience with it so far, if I am on the wrong section, feel free to yell and get a mod to move it.
P.S.S I'll update this as the service centre gets back to me.
Timeline:
23/1/14 - Day 1 - Sent Z1 to service centre.
25/1/14 - Day 3 - Received email that service centre has started repairs
20/2/14 - Day 28 - Finally, after a lot of emails between me and Sony and even longer waiting time for emails, Sony has finally got back to me.

Yea I bent my phone. Sorry. I don't have pictures. But imagine a arc S's curve. But on a z1. Also, I have to assume its because we have cases on our phone so we tend to disregard minor bumps and such even though they hurt the fragile device.

I've neen through quite a few phones, a W595, W995, iPhone 3G (unfortunately), a Galaxy S2 (also unfortunate), arc, arc s, V, then finally my Z1.
And ironically, I've only sustained serious damage in the last 2 phones, ie, the V's flaps coming off and, of course, my z1 bending. Funny how as time passes, their life spans decrease.
Day 4 Update - 26/1/14
Well Sony finally got back to me to tell me:
1. Frame bending is nor under warranty
2. I have to replace the screen
3. It will cost me SGD$405 or USD$320
Being the broke student I am, I'll probably sell my z! then buy a nexus 5.
Seriously the crappiest warranty coverage ever.
After a long long time with Sony, this has been a major bite in the ass.

Well to be fair, I'm pretty sure the warranty covers manufacturer faults, not the user making a fault. If I drop my phone and kill it, why should the manufacturer cover the costs? Trouble is when the person honestly hasn't damaged it through their own fault, in which case proving to the manufacturer you haven't is pretty much impossible. Unless you wear a GoPro all the time or something.
You would be looking for insurance cover, or some kind of extended warranty/protection that covers user inflicted damages.
Either way, I'm careful with my Z1 in my pocket now, especially when sitting down

On a serious note, it sucks bigtime, man. At least it seems like the phone still works, going by what you said in the first post. May not be waterproof now, but still.

It still works. By my calculations, I cant afford a nexus 5 even if i sold the z1 at half the retail price, which means I'm stuck with a banana phone for 11 months. Guess I'll just put a book on it or something until the phone returns to the normal shape or until the screen shatters.
Will update. :/
i don't know what to say... this bending thing is wierd...
i bought my z1 from singapore over ebay and i have it for two month now. i keep it in my jeans front pocket the whole day, sometimes i have my GF sit on my lap and on the phone and it's still straight as an arrow... i have a soft tpu case protecting it...
i don't think physical pressure is at fault here, must be either overheating or manufacturing fault...

Overheating would be a very strange one though, I would expect issues with the glass splitting like with the XZ before the aluminium frame warping. The phones get hot, but not that hot. If it was getting hot to the point it may soften and warp, you would probably have cooked the battery and the CPU/GPU as well. Not to mention it could take time for it to warp.
I know someone who had an Xperia S, and they would hear it crack every so often when they would sit down, or bend their leg. No damage to it, but obviously something wasn't liking the pressure. Meanwhile I had an XS, never heard it make noises like that. But then I always have loose pockets, whereas my mates phone was wedged into his pocket, tight as.

net nessecerly... if the aluminum frame is made by chipping it can be made is a bad way causing internal forces inside the aluminum, these forces need not 500 degrees to alter it's shape, i'm not talking about the frame melting.
just a small temperature, 50-60 degrees is enough to give the frame the energy it takes to relive these internal forces and bend itself...
this is why i said manufacturing fault, because if some of the frames were made in one factory which did the chipping wrong and others in another which did it right it can explain why some devices bend and some don't. and it has nothing to do with external pressure...
if you want to google go for "strain tensor"
Just send in my z1 for water damage after going to the pool 2 days back.. Had no idea how can water went to Sim port and micro SD port when I'm using casemate tough dual layer protective case.. And there's small water droplets around the camera lens..
Still not sure will they honor the warranty or gonna push the blame to me.. Will only know the outcome tomorrow..

Well I guess many z1 have manufacturing defects.. It's almost impossible for an ip58 rating device to come in contact with water despite all ports had been covered properly..

All I can say about my Z1 is that it's honestly been the best phone I've ever had. The screen is good, camera is great, build quality is amazing. I haven't had any problems with it.
Some Z1's do leak but mine has been great. I was taking pictures in a pool and I dropped it, it went to the bottom (deeper than what its rated at) and its fine.

Wow. Seems like this phone isn't that waterproof. At least they fix it for free.
To the people who have water damage: Do you open and close the USB cover frequently? Or do you use a dock? The cover might have just gotten loose.
That is weird I was in Mexico and went in the ocean and pool with it and no problems

Prolly need to open the screen. Seems like water went in between the screen and digitizer... Anyways at first look it looked like a theme. Had to stare for a few seconds before I could see the fault.
I think that bending is a big contributing part of the water damage. I have had mine in a fair bit of water, reasonably deep, say 1m max, for most of it I had no problems... But I bent it ever so slightly (0.25mm) somehow (check out how many complaints are about z1's bending, the alum. bends on drops, and slight pressure) and because of that water got in (not into sim slots etc)... Anywho, it fixed up shortly after, and I did bend it back the other way so it was straight again, and shortly after checked the waterproofness, to find that it was watertight again (very slight pressure to bend it back, the alum. is sooo malleable) ... and now it's just died, permanently, because it's bent again(it once again is bent about 0.25mm) it will still boot if i apply pressure to it, so presumably it's some kind of power connector which has broken solder or something. It's a real shame because otherwise the phone is great, they just bend so easily, heaps of threads on the net about it if you guys aren't aware, which means it's not sealed properly.
I've never broken a phone before, I'm very careful, borderline paranoid about the way I treat my phones.
my friend get fog on camera after using many time.
but still working on until now.
n my z1 not yet go to pool but i have many time wash it.
Personally I see this water proofing as just another level of insurance for when I use my phone around water,
I don't plan on using it in the water. Its sad in a way because I have other water proof devices (watches, Canon D1) and use them all the time in the water with out any fear. I guess a cell is more important to me so i just rather not take the risk even with the IP58 certification.
It is a bit frustrating I am sure for many people who bought the phone and planned on using it in the water as advertised by Sony and are now having problems.
I had a Otterbox Armor which was water proof for my Samsung S3 but I also never actually took it in the water it was more just insurance.
I got the Z1 knowing i would be around water and wanted to keep the phone slim but still protected in-case it gets splashed.
