Dell Logo Came Off - Streak 5 General

While at King's Dominion earlier this week, I noticed the "DEL" part of the logo on the battery cover fell off (probably 1-too many roller coaster rides). The last "L" stayed on. Fortunately, I had the original clear silicone case on it, and the "DEL" got caught up top / side between the phone & the case.... When I got home, I cleaned the logo area with alcohol and a Q-Tip and used a tooth pick to put little dabs of Super Glue (the gel type glue), in the recesses where the logo is at the middle-most part. I think I got good adhesion.... seems secure now, but I'm wondering if I should pry off the last "L" and the circular parts and glue them as well?
I picked up an original Dell dock earlier this week and cannot use the dock and any case simultaneously... and I'm also liking the way my nude Streak feels, but I'm afraid if the rest of the logo tries to escape, I may not have the case on and consequently loose the parts..... Any thoughts?
Thanks all!

My chrome logo fell off a couple of months ago
The thing is, I don't mind because in my opinion it actually looks a lot better as a simple engraved logo!

The chrome ring around the dell logo slithered right off of my back cover

So Rico..... Are you runnin 'er without the circle? ..... Just wondering

Lol, yes, my streaker lost its "snap-snap-circle"!, has "taken a lick'n but keeps onnn tick'n"

talk to dell and ask for a replacement battery cover. so that you won't suffer a $10 loss when you sell it.

Rico I'm with you, Dude...... I'll never willingly part with my Streak, REGARDLESS of ANY offer... Seriously, I've never felt this attached to any gizmo I've ever owned..... Wife often wakes up in the middle of the night to find me playing with it..... Then I have her call my Streak so I can locate it and make sure it's OK and no one's stolen it

I sleep with it,it is usually under my pillow or on the nightstand,my wife does not even bother to say anything....in fact she laughs.I can't go to bed without it,I can watch something, listen to music and best of all try out new apps.
My whole DELL logo and the little circle are gone, and it does not look bad at all.

Oh I sleep with mine too, so does the Brandt. Havent trued vb putting it under the pillow yet but will give it a go tnite. Believe me when I say i cnt go anywhere without mine either! If I can help it, this units' going into the box with me when I am planted.

It's not that I can't help it...I just don't wanna help it ;-) As much as I read about new devices I am not impressed at all, many of the android devices look so alike, they don't even catch my attention.
We don't have a retina display buy I think the Streak has a nice screen.
Getting ready to go to bed...streak,charger,headphones...I am ready now.

Hahahaha... I lost the logo also when i try to use the silicone case. It just went sticky with the case i guess, so with some insert-deinsert cycle it went loose. I did purchase the replacement cover though ($40 - goddamnit), but daily I keep the old cover because I like it that way (matte with embossed effect-LoL).
So sorry i have to part with my streak. Last month i almost lose this phone, actually I did but then someone find it and return it to me. In reflection i decided to sell, because it's some kind of bad mojo for me. Still i missed my streak though...

Which relaxation apps! I,was totally into thatback in the day. Even recorded my own thunderstorms/rain and wind "cassettes"...(wow do they make cassettes these days?)... Ive even placed sensitive microphones at the base of gutter drains on the house to get that trickling, water sound.... Needlessto say,. Wasnt "STREAKN" back tben.
Last nite, the wifey told to take me and "that thing icant keep my hands off of" to the other toom and "have at it"........so I did. Me and my Dell Streak Was up all night . Gawd I luv this tab/phone!

Too true..... There's NOTHING out there that's even in the same category.... Unless something bad happens to mine, I don't EVER plan on getting rid of it..... Hell, even if/when aTnT takes over my beloved T-Mobile, I'll be all set for their, um, "3G" bands (although T-Mobile's 2G is usually FASTER than the DeathStar's "3G").....
Rico.... Dude I usually fall asleep with mine plugged in..... but when the wife wakes up, she usually pulls it out of my hands and puts it on the nightstand

You tha man! Id like to try sleeping with mine plugged in all nite. I usually fall asleep with my streak in my hand and somebody come along and plays with it before they put it back in my hand or in my pants.
I need to be careful though, that gorilla glass aint what its crackex up to be. One night I may roll over ontop of it and break it. Now that dell dropped the Streak, it might get hard locating replacement parts.

What could be wrong with my G1?

Alright, I baught my G1 from a friend off Craigslist and I got it unlocked so I could use my g1 with AT&T. The phone was great for a few weeks. Now it just randomly turns off, it sometimes restarts but most of the time I have to take the battery out and put it back in.
I did a google search about it and read a few things but their situation isn't exactly like mine.
When it turns off and stays off (wont respond to On Button) there is a red light near the speaker that is just constantly on and wont turn off, even when the phone is unresponsive.
I use a generic USB plug to charge my G1 from my PC.
My phone has root abilitys but I had this problem before I enabled root.
Does this on all versions RC29 to the Current Cupcake
Do I need to send the phone to HTC?
Do I need to get a new Battery?
Can I buy the battery retail or from only HTC?
Will HTC service my phone even though I got it off CL?
This phone was purchased around Sept last year (when the owner orginally had it)
EDIT: Phone turned off again, started with the T-Mobile logo. I shut the slider so its closed and it turned off. Will not turn back on.
I tried a little bit close to 30 times now and no response.
Thank you in advanced for the help and replies.

Nope, no water damage and no drops that I could think of.
probably a few minor ones but nothing such as a serious drop (onto concrete or floor)
Unroot and flash back to the original ROM, then contact HTC. They will cover it under warranty...all you pay is shipping it to Houston.
I cannot turn on my G1, to unroot it.
I was pretty sure having a rooted phone didn't void the warranty anyways?
Rooting your phone doesn't void the warranty
It sounds like you have water damage.
Thats weird, How could I have water damage if I was so anal about not getting it wet or even bringing it into the bathroom with me =S
Is there any other reason for this malfunction that fits other then water damage?
Will they still fix it if signs point towards WD?
Personally I don't think it could be water damage since I'm always in dry areas with it and I don't even use it when I'm eating or in the bathroom.
but who knows =/
The way to tell if there is water damage is there is a small sticker on the inside by the battery and another one on the battery. If it still looks like its red and white (may look pink) then you straight it shouldn't be water damage.

Its black with white letters, the same it has always been. So its not WD.
On the battery its a red mesh with white, I'm not sure if it means water damage because I'm a bit confused about your last post. I licked the end of this battery before I went to bed to see if it held a charge and it does.
So the phone's sticker says no WD and the Battery has a red mesh of red over white but not a thick red line in the center.

Your right its not water damage. As long as you see the red mesh that means its straight. And my bad wasn't tryna be confusing its to early and not enough coffee.
Haha I know exactly how you feel on that one, i have to go to Red Rock Casino today and its going to be really depressing not bringing my G1 rofl.
What could this be?
It use to shut off on me randomly but never permanently like now.
I read online that this happened to someone else and he waited some hours and put in his battery and it started back up but so far nothing has happened when I put it in this morning.
Is there a major defect in the G1s that cause them to do this or is my situation a "How in the hell could that happen " kind of thing.
If you have a second battery try that if not I would say maybe go by a t mobile store or any other store that sells batteries for it and possibly try a different battery. Maybe there could be a connection problem for charging, but then again that may not be the problem. Last month my phone took the slightest fall and never turned back on and I know I've dropped my phone much harder than that. If you had t mobile then I would say go to the store and have them replace saying your going out of town and really need it. When mine broke I just took it to the store and they replaced it there so no need to use the warranty and wait on the mail man.

I'm on live chat with T-Mobile and they told me to contact AT&T and I gave them hell. I hope I get this resolved today or my phone magically starts working for no known reason.
I'm not much of a gambler ironically enough, I was born and raised here in Las Vegas rofl.
EDIT: I contacted HTC and they say having root access is hacking the phone and installing illegal software and they wont RMA it.
So I told them go ahead and just forget because I have root. The phone wont charge or anything.
aagggghhhhh you shouldn't have told them you gained root or modified it at all. Did you give them any info, or can you call back and try again?

I didn't tell them they told me that in order to do an RMA I need to have phone that wasn't damaged physically and a phone without any illegal software on it. So I asked them if having root was illegal (after reading constantly online that it wouldn't void the warranty) they said yes.
It would cost me an extra hundred dollars to have them fix it if they find out it was rooted.
Edit: The Hundred dollars would be billed to a credit card that I have to supply when RMAing. I don't have a credit card. I think their a waste but now I need one.

HTC G2 "Known" Screen Issue - ARGH

So the phone worked fine, I brought it downstairs, start using the computer, check my phone and the screen is black with some lines, and what looks like a crack on the bottom near the buttons.
I called T-Mobile, who said it was a known issue, since corrected in newer shipments, that they usually replaced completely in-store, but there's no stores up here in Montreal. So then two reps both separately told me to call the factory/manufacturer HTC, who then told me that they don't cover screen problems, at all, ever. All they can do is initialize the normal off-warranty repair service for like 200$ and be phone-less for about a month.
I find this completely unacceptable and could use some help or HTC/TMO reps on the forums? This is my first phone and I'm not used to dealing with this...

my fiancee's G2 screen went out last night, it looked like it shattered from the inside because there was a 1 1/2 inch crack under the glass. she says it was working perfectly fine, put it in her purse and a few mins later it wouldnt turn on. she didnt drop it or hit it against anything so i have no idea what happened. exchanged it at radio shack today (only had it 10 days) and the guy said it had to have been from a heavy blow. now i know she is capable of abusing phones but i believe that she didnt this time.

i had the exact same thing happy to my phone last night. i have only had it a few days. this is not a good sign for the G2 phone. i barely used it; it was never dropped, etc. there appears to be some kind of crack under the screen near the home button on the phone (maybe from pushing that button?) and the screen is out. the phone is still functional and can get calls, etc, but i cannot see anything. i am going in today to get it replaced but this worries me a lot about owning this phone.

It looks pristine when the screen is off. I'm not knowledgeable about screens but it must be an inside layer, broken from a pressure or heat problem?

Pressure... unlikely. Heat and cold contributes a lot when it comes to glass. My old phone cracked when it was really cold back where I use to live.

Mine did that too. Called T-Mobile and they made me add the $6 monthly warranty and said i could remove it from the account after the swap
They made me reboot the phone and then check the moisture sticker thing under the battery. I just told them what the screen was doing and they replaced it. I had the insurance but I didn't have to use it for the warranty replacement.

Did yours have a little crack near the buttons, but not the actual glass?
I have the same EXACT issue in the same EXACT spot. Noticed it when i took my g2 out of my pocket. The glass has no cracks scratches or anything!!Called tmobile the next day...the guy told me to take it a store to determine whether its "cosmetic" damage or not. Went to the store and they said its physical damage and wouldnt be covered. Called customer service at the store and she explained to me that this was a known issue. She called it "lcd bursting". Ordered my phone right then and there. Once i get the phone she was i have to send in my old one so that they can determine whether its covered under the warranty or not. If not its $279. Have any of you guys gotten charged the $279 if you had the small crack by the home buttons??
I never had this issue before... I have a little mytouch bag for my g2 and never put in my pockets... had this phone for hell of a long time. Wish you don't got to pay dude and if they do make you pay start b***hing at them

I sent it in and they want me to pay 190$. And they didn't even know about ANY known issues. I told them to have their "technicians" recheck it with specific instructions.
my screen arrived today, and its all fixed. If worst comes to worst you can buy a new screen and do it yourself for so much cheaper than that.

Bought used Nexus One. Has ONE spec of dust...

So I found a used Nexus one on craigslist for a great deal and everything works perfectly fine. The previous owner had his email engraved on the phone, but that is not an issue. The screen also has some minor scratches, but none are visible when using it. However, there is one annoying problem. A speck of dust on the bottom left of the phone. I don't know how it possibly could have gotten there.
That is the most annoying part about it. One, white, speck. Should I ask him to take it back, or am I being too picky? Does your N1 have a speck of dust?
Finally, I am worried about how this will affect resale value. I know they are currently going for $200+, but with a speck of dust and an engraved email, I don't know how much it'll be worth.
Should I get a case for the phone?
Thanks.
if that's the only thing, I'd say keep it. The sealing around that area is a problem on (all? most?) N1s. I have quite a lot of dust near that corner (and I've been very careful), if you read around you'll see it's fairly common.
It's even remarkable that it's only one speck of dust enjoy your N1!
I don't have any dust under my screen, but I remember that being a common complaint here during the first few months they were available.
If you want to risk the getting more particles in there you could take it apart using the ifixit guide and hope for the best.

Yep, as far as I can tell, the spec of dust, one minor scratch on the back, and the email engraving are the only problems. I really hope that dust particle doesn't multiply.
Does anyone think I should get a case for my new N1, or should I wear it "naked." Finally, as a new person to android, please help me get to know my phone. I want a weather app like in HTC Sense, but I don't want to install weather channel or something. I have the NYtimes widget, so I don't need the default news widget. What other kinds of apps should I have?
Finally, I will probably do a review of the N1, from a person coming from a iPhone 2g. The N1 is blazing FAST!!! The same apps on N1 load in less than 2 seconds, while on the old iphone, it would have taken 15 seconds. Heavy websites like head-fi load in 3 seconds, compared to almost 30seconds on the 2g.
Forgot to say that my phone runs 2.3.4 gingerbread, which the previous owner flashed before he sold it to me.
Run naked!
First thing i did on getting my N1 is get the hairdryer on to it. Warmed the glue behind the screen edges and then push it down to get a better seal.
Obviously a bit late for you now but may help to stop any more dust getting in
if it bothers you I'll take it off your hands for $150.

Why does your phone look exactly like mine !!!!!! I thought my phone was unique >.<

I wonder???
In any case, I just discovered this amazing thing called the "wifi never sleep policy."
So here's the deal. I have no mobile data (shocker!!). That means I shut shut off my data roaming and mobile data settings. Since I am often around wifi, I just use that. I notice that when the phone has been untouched for maybe 20 minutes or so, when my desktop client gets an email, my phone does not. So I looked around, and I found out about the wifi-never sleep policy.
What exactly does this mean? The description says that it will never switch to mobile data, but I have NO mobile data. To have maximum battery life, what should I do? Effectively, if I set to off when screen is off, wouldn't it effectively turn off ALL data (wifi and mobile data, which was never on to begin with).
Also, I could opt for 2g networks only, but I don't know if that's useful.
Still you should set wifi sleep policy to never. Its super efficient even with wifi on.

I have some dust on the bottom left corner if my screen as well. I wish I knew how to get it out. It's noticeable when there's sun shining on the phone.
I opened to clean my n1 before, but new dust came back two weeks later. Just like I didn't do anything.
I don't have any dust under my screen but i do have one hair under the screen. I leave it there to remind me of the 7 year old sweat shop worker who built my phone in China. I imagine him playfully giggling with the sweatshop child worker seated next to him, then with a firm swat to the back of the head, echoing from the taskmasters whip behind him. Then franticly and quickly pressing the digitizer on my nexus into place. But not soon enough for the single hair to fall down into its final resting place. This single storyless tear , frozen in its technological tomb for eternity .
Lest we forget

Thanks.

I'd say keep it too.
I don't know where the previous user engraved his email, but if its on the battery cover, then why don't you get a replacement cover from cnn.cn?
The N1 has been one of the best smartphones I've ever had!
Enjoy it!

Get a screen protector. No need for a case.
I'd take it. With mine, i dropped it a few times so I have dings on the darker gray plastic bit but othe than that it's great.
The resale of the phone is probably most affected by the email engraving.

A very, very important cautionary tale

A Very Cautionary Tale...
We've all heard the "urban myths" about exploding phones, and maybe even a few of you have experienced them. I'm here to tell you, they're true (proof below).
Got home, put my phone on the desk (wood) face down right next to my laptop and plugged it into USB to charge. Left the room for about 20 minutes.
As I was walking back into the room I heard a very loud POP. I looked over and a spark/flame jumped about 18" from the back cover of my phone. Then thick white smoke (and a really acrid stink) started spewing from it. I don't know how, but I had the presence of mind to run across the room and yank the cord out of the computer so it wouldn't blow. By now, the phone was fully engulfed in flames so I flipped it onto the floor and threw a sweatshirt over it to smother it.
Again, I don't know where the presence of mind came from, but I realized I had irreplaceable pics on the sd card so I put my shoe on the phone and with a knife flipped the battery out, grabbed needlenose pliers off the shelf and pulled the card. (It was a little distorted from the heat but everything was still there...it's now functioning in the new phone!!!)
The phone itself was still so hot it left an imprint on the bottom of my sneaker, and (as you can see) the battery left a burn right in the middle of my living room carpet. Parts of the pT hardshell case fused to my shoe, the phone, and my desk. The battery was still too hot to touch, so I poured cold water on it. But BIG props to Gorilla glass...the screen did not shatter!!!
When I went to Sprint, they were SO freaked out (and hysterical laughing) the techs all came out and took pics, and my salesgirl gave me a brand new one with battery! (Don't wanna waste my upgrade until LTE hits L.A. in May).
So, Exploding Batteries are a real thing, kids. Beware.

HTC Stock battery And not even using an SBC kernel! Pretty crazy stuff. You got me paranoid about plugging in any of my phones unattended now.
Good to hear you got things under control with the fire though and thankfully you were able to recover your SD Card

Pure dumb luck...had I not walked back into the room at that moment I'm sure my wood desk, laptop and god knows what else would've burned up. The fire was extremely hot. The battery stayed warm for an hour even after having cold water dumped on it.
Now, if I could just figure out how to get the acrid smell out of my place, I'd be happy. Burned Nag Champa all night and it barely helped...

You and me both!! I thought I had a superphone...
And it was definitely not the phone that started the whole thing, but my original HTC battery.
Freaky
Man you were lucky on two fronts..
#1 nothing else burned
and
#2 if you had been dealing with most other companies like Microshaft, they would have blamed it on the laptop maker and/or its faulty USB port and you'd still be going around in circles....
Kudos to Sprint for steeping up to the plate.

You are one lucky man for sure! Timing saved a lot this time around.
How old was the phone/battery? It can be rather impressive when a Li-ion battery decides to vent the polymer and burn. Been there, done that, have the t-shirt.... But not inside of a phone!!
Glad it all came out Ok. Good for Sprint for covering it.

Dev - agreed all the way around. My experience with Sprint the last 1.5 years has been nothing short of amazing, after almost 15 years on AT&T and Verizon (and all their precursors). Sprint never hesitates to step up and do the right thing.
Rab - Phone was about 6 months old and was a NEW (not refurb) replacement, including battery, for a refurb I got from a friend when my original OG went south (I walked in and they just swapped me...they didn't have any refurbs in stock and needed one!!). As I said, I have found Sprint corporate conduct to be quite remarkable in this day and age.
And yes, the fire was unbelievable. The amount of smoke coming from that small thing was incredible. And the heat coming off it shocking.
TT - My favorite smell!!! And I was shocked it didn't cover up the burn smell, but that's how bad it was.
Thanks, all. And remember ALWAYS WATCH YOUR PHONE WHEN CHARGING.
Yikes! I leave my phone to charge overnight and I've never had a problem, but I'm going to think that over again....

Ok, that is an unreal story, but I don't think everyone needs to rethink how and when they charge their phone. There could be variables, like a bent pin in the connector, for example, that caused this anomaly to happen

I think I saw this thread. Didn't you say you thought the phone had been run over? That might have had something to do with it.
Yikes! Did Sprint techs give any guess why this happened? Defective battery?

I thought it might have been run over, but the Sprint tech said no way. The only impact it took was hitting the ground and the case took the hit. They bench-checked the phone and gave me an all-clear.

Defective battery was their best guess. The battery was definitely the root cause. No bent pins, or any other [obvious] anomaly. That's not to say the 2 incidents were unrelated, but the phone worked perfectly for 9 days before this happened and wasn't ever even warm when charging.

A sad ending to my 2month old phone...

Finished a training ride today...reached into my jersey pocket to call home andddd it slips and lands on the corner.
2 months old only. Damn. :/ Hurts my pocket for sure as I saved up and finally moved on from a GNexus 2 years later. (<--I'm a student)
Feast your eyes on broken glass (LCD still works but the digitizer which is bonded to the glass is broken). Sony quoted me 50% of the cost of the phone just to replace and repair it. That's not worth it IMHO. Sigh. Guess I'll just sell it for parts and go hunting for a 2nd hand phone......

I could...but the cost isn't too far off from an official repair ($100US) but even if I fixed the screen I loose the water resistance because as you can see there's a chunk of the bottom left frame missing

Indeed. I kept it naked because I had the charging dock and I didn't want to deal with taking the case on and off all the time. I should've gotten one. Phone landed corner first which is why the damage is like this. If it was flat on the back it might have taken it better
