Hoe does Samsung think - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) General

Note 3 is being released and it's specs are good.
What I don't understand is why the Note 8 is not available with the 3 GB ROM and not available with 32/64 GB RAM.
As a good size tablet, we need that memory more than a phone that is too small for real note taking.

Why do you need 3 gigs of ram?

The more it has the more it is valuable

Because the built is stuff is so large.
Maybe that's why I need 64 GB RAM
I don't feel confident to root and so I'm stuck with Samsung stuff.

Maybe not, after all I'm only a lowly "member" not an exalted "Senior Member" who I thought was there to help us lowly ones and not be sarcastic.
When my Note comes with 16 GB and before I do anything I'm starting with less than 10, I'd be grateful for even 1 GB extra.
Shofar

I'm disappointed with the note 3 completely. I'm going with Sony for my next phone the xperia z or whatever it's called. I wanted octacore and they let us down with a quad core. B's. Basically a note 2 with some new touch wiz features 1gb extra ram. Probably because touch wiz will suck that up anyways. My note 2 can actually DO more than the note 3 can anyways. Major disappointed here.

Just a heads up, the Snapdragon 800 is the fastest soc you can get. Will easily run circles around the Exynos 5 Octa.

So you are comparing a Stock Note 3 (that you have only seen on videos) with your modded Note 2 that you have also put a higher capacity battery into? Then you continue to say that 3GB of RAM is useless (more or less) since TW will eat it up.. That makes total sense....
I am pretty sure you are welcome to void the warranty of the Note 3 when it comes out by changing the ROM and modifying the hardware to your liking.
Most new phones are just old phones with a few added features and some new hardware...

Why do people get hung up on the number of cores anyway? Are the Note 2 or Note 8 or Galaxy S4 not fast enough? Secondly, the "octa-core" is not a true 8-core and is in effect a quad core. The other 4 cores are something along the lines of lower powered cores for low power usage applications and battery saving. In real life, the Snapdragon 600 in the S4 which is a quad core does better, and he 800 is far better. The Note 3 has a far better CPU than the octa-core that Samsung invented.
And what exactly does your Note 2 do that the Note 3 can't?

BB AMOLED and Exynos :(

Sad news...
Yes you just read the title of this message right. Our insider just gave us the first official “unconfirmed” specifications of the next generation Galaxy S, the Galaxy S IV. The Galaxy S IV will no longer use the Samsung EXYNOS processor and according to the latest rumours this processor has overheating issues. Today we can confirm Samsung will use the Snapdragon 600 and it is clocked at 1.9 Ghz which is 0.2 Ghz higher than the HTC One. The Galaxy S IV will have 2 GB of RAM and will come in three variants 16, 32 or 64 GB. As the rumours earlier reported Samsung is going to use a Full HD display. The Galaxy S IV uses a 4,99″ Full-HD SoLux Display we have no information if this is based on LCD3 like the HTC One. But a couple of months ago we posted the first hint regarding Samsung’s LCD factory is ready to produce Full HD panels from early 2013. And we also know Samsung’s AMOLED factory does have many problems with the production of full HD AMOLED screens.
We also know more about the build and dimensions of the device. According to our insider the dimensions of the device are 140.1 x 71.8 x 7.7mm and the weight is 138 gram, the new Galaxy S IV will use a home button and will have touch buttons. If you look at the photo below you will see that it will be square formed again, so they dropped the Galaxy SIII design line. He also said the sides are made from aluminium but the back is still plastic which automatic hints to a removable battery which is good to know.
Yesterday we already found out that the Galaxy S IV will have a 13 megapixel camera. Some leaked photos created by the Galaxy S IV showed up to confirm that.
If our insider is right again this is a bad sign for all the EXYNOS and AMOLED freaks out there. Below a list of the confirmed specifications through us right under the specification list you will see the boot screen photo.
- 4,99″ Full-HD SoLux Display
- Snapdragon 600 1.9 Ghz
- 2 GB RAM
- 16, 32 or 64 GB
- 13 Megapixel
- 140.1 x 71.8 x 7.7mm
- 138 gram
- Home button with touch buttons
- Plastic back with aluminium sides
- Removable battery
- Black / White

Exynos 5 Octa uses I think it was 4 low power cores and 4 high speed cores, so it's not a battery drain for low end tasks. (Octa = 8)
I will wait for official word on this, I can't see Samsung announcing the Octa this year, then not using it, it gives competitors a chance to trump it.
If they do use the snapdragon 600 it will be good because whist yes the Exynos is a good processor Samsung will not release decent documentation for it, so developers have a hard time getting AOSP roms working efficiantly, the Snapdragon range is completely open source so roms will work a lot better, and be easier to port. Exynos has already made developers leave Samsung devices.

doubt that, since they got LTE and exynos working together finally. but the snapdragon seems like a give and take situation. that octa looks like it'll be an amazing processor, but if it's a snapdragon then we can finally get AOSP working fine.
as for the LCD, that's gonna be a personal preference for everyone. I wouldn't mind either, but I'd miss the blacks on the LED. the color punch is really nothing, I set my display to natural.
but really, do we even need the octa now? these phones we have now are over powered. I run my note ii at 1ghz with 1 core enabled and notice no differences in day to day use (except video chatting, that requires at least two cores lol) . point is, these quad cores (by today's standards) are just too much, and kinda gimmicky. I don't think we'll need to see the octa for a good year or two.

Samsung have announced the Octa now, it won't be long before other chip manufacturers try to beat it, then Samsung's great idea will be old tech before it comes out. They have no choice but to put it in something if they want to make any use of it.
Btw we will get more details from Samsung on mwc starting tomorrow. Ill believe this only if it comes from Samsung. Whatever the processor or screen it has already been decided and s4 shoukd be in mass production right now.
《posted from s3》
I think that's nt true. Because making a SS on PS and open up that image on a phone and taking a photo in bad light conditions isn't too hard.
Actually, I think that phone is Xperia Z or LG Optimus and photo taken with a S3...
Next Galaxy S device(international version) will have Exynos Octa(5440 or 5410) or Dual(5250) with 5" FULL HD Super AMOLED Display. Why Samsung use another solution? I don't know any logical reason. Warming? Power consumption? Software based reasons? I don't think so. This is my two cents.
On the other hand, I think(I know, I used a lot -I Think-s)next Galaxy S device will have Exynos Octa, 2GB of ram, Mali T604 or T658 GPU, better camera lens(S3's sensor is good but lens is a bit deficient.), 2600mAh battery and also more durable chasis and screen. On software, Samsung will do wonders...
Edit: If I had gramatical mistakes, I want to say I'm sorry for that. Because Eng. is my 3rd language.
You obviously seem to have very little knowledge concerning technical product design. If it' physically impossible at the moment to manage the heating problems in this case, then in fact THIS IS a reason to kick the Octa processor for a Snapdragon...

To be honest I have no clue, I do know that every snapdragon variant of Note 3 preserves a half gigabyte for the system (GPU) so logically Samsung chosed this set up and it is not by random. Maybe because Note 3 has 3GB of ram compared to LG which has 2GB and therefore the Snapdragon has more allowance/capacity to absorb more ram as 3 GB ram is plenty! Probably the bigger ram it preserves over the LG can be considered as an advantage and not disadvantage especially in the case of Note's 3 huge amount of ram.

As far as I am concerned the Exynos version has 2.70 GB compared to Snapdaragon which has 2.40GB so it has a little bit more!
It's logical (if it is indeed the case) to reserve a good amount of memory for the GPU to access. It is a 1080p device, after all. Graphically-intense processes at higher resolutions typically require more memory than their lower resolution counterparts. The Adreno 330 is a more powerful GPU than the Mali-T628 MP, too.

G2 has sd800 + adreno 330, 1080p, but doesn't reserve anywhere near that much (granted has less to start). And yet doesn't seem to suffer from any performance issues. Something just isn't adding up for me, and don't have one yet to see for myself..
They made it that way for a reason. All that S stuff and Pen doesn't function on memory. It runs on ram. What you don't see is the "dedicated" amount of ram taken. Just like video cards.
The G2 has the same amount of ram being taken, it just doesn't show it. Same design for the GPro.
Your phone's are fine, and don't worry about all the free ram you don't see. Some of the ram that is shown as being used is reserved so apps aren't pulled from memory. It's pulled from RAM instead. It's more battery friendly.
It costs more battery power to have 'free' RAM sit there and then having apps occupy it, compared to the ram already being cached.
Sent from my LG-E980 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No offense, but that's just nonsense. More physical ram takes more battery, that's true. But that's purely physical ram, regardless of what is, or isn't stored on it, as data stored in ram is no different if its marked free, or used.
And the lg 'not showing it', is more nonsense.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the phone, just that something doesn't add up, and would like to find out what that is legitimately, not based on nonsense/fud.

That doesn't explain why Exynos version has 2.70gb RAM vs 2.40gb RAM in the Snapdragon.
I may not be the best judge, having came from a phone with 1GB of RAM, but the Galaxy Note 3 has been a beast when it comes to multitasking for me. I'm pleasantly surprised when I switch to an app I haven't used for a while and it's STILL in active memory (i.e. doesn't have to reload). My old Galaxy Nexus used to drive me nuts with that, pretty much could only have 2, maybe 3 apps open at once.

I'm tempted to upgrade my decrepit S2. Now with the S4 it seemed like the choice was like this
1) The Snapdragon based i9505 had better battery life, stability and LTE. It was supported well by Cyanogenmod
2) The Exynos based i9500 didn't have any of that stuff.
On the other hand the Exynos version was the only version on sale in Taiwan where I live. Now I could get an i9505 in the UK but the UK's a horrible place to buy phones or indeed anything - the prices are the highest in the world and Samsung products sold in Europe had funny SIM locking issues.
w w w.extremetech.com/electronics/167621-how-samsung-is-region-locking-the-galaxy-s4-and-note-3-and-what-it-means-for-you
NB links are nerfed to avoid the spam filter - s/w w w/www/g to make them work
So I decided to pass on the S4.
Is the same thing going to happen with the S5? I've found a list of model numbers
w w w.sammobile.com/2014/01/29/all-model-numbers-sm-g900-galaxy-s5-confirmed/
- SM-G9006V_CHN_CHN (China)
- SM-G9008V_CHN_ZM (China)
- SM-G9009D_CHN_CTC (China)
- SM-G900A_NA_ATT (AT&T)
- SM-G900D_JPN_DCM (Japan)
- SM-G900F_EUR_XX (Open Europe)
- SM-G900H_EUR_XX (Open Europe)
- SM-G900I_SEA_XSA (Asia)
- SM-G900J_JPN_KDI (Japan)
- SM-G900K_KOR_KTC (Korea)
- SM-G900L_KOR_LGC (Korea)
- SM-G900M_LA_VF (Vodafone)
- SM-G900P_NA_SPR (Sprint)
- SM-G900R4_NA_USC (US Cellular)
- SM-G900S_KOR_SKC (Korea)
- SM-G900T_NA_TMB (T-Mobile)
- SM-G900V_NA_VZW (Verizon)
- SM-G900W8_NA_BMC (BMC)
I also know that the ones on sale in Taiwan are SM-G900I. I guess the question is whether they are Exynos or Snapdragon?
Of course it's also possible that Samsung have fixed the issues with the Exynos that caused Exynos based S4's to have worse battery life - rumoured to be that the Cache Coherent Interconnect bus didn't work and had to be disabled. Even so I think custom Roms are important and for the S2-S4 Snapdragon based devices have been better supported by them.
Questions
1) Am I right that Snapdragon based S5's are a better bet?
2) Is the SM-G900I Snapdragon or Exynos?
3) Does anyone know a shop near New York or Washington where I could pick up a SIM unlocked Snapdragon S5 for a reasonably price? I think I'll be on the East Coast of the US for a business trip in a month or so so I could get one then.
I personally will choose Snap not Exynos as its always hot whike processing. This been proved from various Samsung models.
Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
The Exynos version is expected to pack the new 5422 SoC that supports HMP, so it should be able to run all 8 cores at once, in which case it will be definitely faster than the 801. Battery life is a big question, but the Exynos 6 Hexa in the Note 3 Neo ain't bad at all, so the new Octa at the minimum looks promising.

Not to mention Exynos = Perseus kernel = MFin' win.

Not Galaxy S2, Note1 and S3 (with S3 the actual problem is the RAM, not the CPU). At that time, US versions use what people called Crapdragon.
Note 2 has Exynos version only, but it's very hard to get hot, highest stability result ever in any mobile phone, and the best battery life at its time.

I just hope this time they will bring LTE to the Exynos variant too. Otherwise i'll have to go with the snapdragon.

Yup!
Snapdragon version would be better IMO because it will have more dev support than the exynos version.
snadragon version also has LTE
And yes, the i9505 had better battery life than the i9500.
correct me if i am wrong, but the exynos octa used in the S4 isnt too different from the one used in the S5?
So if that were true, the snapdragon 801 should create an even bigger gap between the new exynos octa in terms of battery life.
Hmm.. exynos s4 has longer battery, you can check thread in xda or ericca griffin youtube comparison

Android system percentage is way too high, maybe you have some app causing long wakelocks.
Anyway, here is a reference to my battery life on the exynos S4 on android 4.4.2:

The New Exynos is much better with HMP and a better GPU than the Exynos used in the S4.
It is similar to the one used in the Note 3. The Exynos version of the Note 3 has good battery life and is as good as the SD800 version.

Not so much with Qualcomm's envelope tracking technology. LTE can be more efficient than old school 3G antennas, although much depends on reception (usually stronger for 3G).

This looks actually pretty impressive....its what the note 4 could/should have been in some aspects.
If available in canada with working LTE I could see getting one.
Never thought id ever be interested in a huawei device but they nailed it with this one

I have to wait for more in-depth reviews of the device, but I am seriously considering getting the Ascend Mate 7. I currently have a Note 3, and was hoping that Samsung would either increase the size of the Note 4 or release an updated version of the Galaxy Mega 6.3, but no such luck.
This video shows off the AM7 and it looks really nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayYcVWO3yLI
I'm so jealous of those bloggers at IFA that got one.
Also, I wonder what kind of dev support we can expect here on XDA for the AM7.
Dev support is definately something I would take into consideration prior to buying.

Looking at the mate 6 forums there's plenty of support.
I'm also very interested in this device, owning an note 3 and seeing how the note 4 is a big letdown I'm considering upgrading to this.
This phone looks great! There will always be the people that dislike this and the other Mates for their mid-range specs, but this phone is mostly for battery life. I have a Mate2 and I can get 2-3 days on one charge easily.
Also, we just achieved root today! Sadly Xposed doesn't completely work, along with Viper4Android.
As for dev support, the original Mate has a number of ROMs up, but the Mate2 has nothing. Again, we just got root very recently. Another reason why is most likely because no one knows about this phone. Maybe the Mate7 will bring new developers and users. And if that happens, I hope the Mate2 gets the same treatment.

Ahh, my bad yes that one.
I hope the mate 7 will get cm. If it does it will be a blessing of a phone.
I would buy this right now for battery!
I'm currently using Nexus 5. I would really like to know if we would get stock rom on this. I really like the dual antenna and finger print setup. I think it will be challenging to get stock to working on those features.
Anyway I am still willing to buy it now. Any suggestions where would I get it?

Hasn't the Ascend Mate 2 been out since February? If it took this long to get root, that doesn't bode well for the Mate 7. I don't think I could wait half a year for root.

Yup, around that time but that was the Chinese/overseas model. It already got root and even an official KitKat update.
Our US model only started to get sold here back in July, I believe. So about 2 months to get root.

If stock Android/root would be guaranteed I'd buy this the first moment I could get it.
Will T-Mobile LTE work on it?

We didn't have the hw-qmonekeytool to get the 16 digit code needed for the Unlock of the bootloader to get root, now we do. Huawei is like HTC, as long as you have that code, you can unlock any Bootlader on any Huawei and get root.
I buy all my Huawei's direct from China (Better prices) Once the Mate7 is available (in the Configuration I need for FDD LTE) I will have it.

We use FDD LTE (Frequency Division Duplex-Long Term Evolution) here in the US they Use TD LTE (Time-division Long-Term Evolution) in China.
The Ascend Mate 7 features an octa-core (1.8GHz A15 + 1.3GHz A7) Kirin 925 SoC with Mali T628 GPU. While the 16GB variant will come with 2GB of RAM, the 32GB variant will pack 3GB of RAM.

Mediatek is also a popular chip set used by some large smatphone manufacturers and is been doing great contribution to developers since there were many mediatek devices with a number of custom rom have been developed. And it is too early to expect updates at the moment maybe later next month ?.
I'm still comparing this device with lenovo a7000+, asus zenfone max.
Maybe you can help me decide ?
Hopefully LG will give more updates to K10.?
I don't know abt Lenovo but I was choosing between this and Zenfone Max as well. What i like abt Max is its battery but honestly I do notnlike the UI of ASUS.? also the screen of K10 is better than Max's. When it comes to camera functionality, Max is better as it offers more modes though not sure abt the image quality. Is Max a midrange?

Definitely max is in mid range device. I agree with the elegant design of k10 i hope that the battery can be replace by higher capacity.. I'm planning to buy this phone on may.
Just received mine 2 days ago, bought on eBay from Taiwan (needed the 700mhz freq for Telstra woohoo).
Going by CPU-Z mine is an Octacore MediaTek MT6753 1.30GHz with GPU Mali - T720, 2GB ram.
For the price $249au - posted, its an awesome phone. I do agree with some reviews about the dullish screen, but its not a dealbreaker for me.
4G Telstra works fantastic, havent taken a lot of camera shots as the weather has been average here atm.
I did an AnTutu benchmark, 35516.
Antutu and CPU-Z pics below..
I've LTE version and the chipset is MT6753 with 2GB RAM. It comes with marshmallow. Couldn't find time to test battery life. I'll try to build CM13 as soon as possible. Mine model is K430TR.

Hi, I have 2 questions for people who have the DSY variant. Can you put 128gb micro sd on it? I read the spec on the net that it only supports up to 32 gb. Is it right?
Also, is this mediatek chipset faster than snapdragon 800? Can someone tell me as I am really new about this.
thanks ....
I'll be getting it in 2 weeks... as I already pre order it...

It says on GSMArena that it's expandable up to 32gb of SD card only but some users say it can read 64gb SD card. Not sure with the 128gb one.
I am using the Mediatek variant and I can say that it's very smooth. Not sure with the Snapdragon variant.
